My comment made during the closing scene:
“The camera better not pan to reveal three pricks in crowns on camelback…”
*camera pans*
“… oh, do fuck off ”

On the topic of Yakuza/Like A Dragon…
https://www.gamesradar.com/entertainment/drama-shows/like-a-dragon-yakuza-tv-show-amazon-kiryu/
I kind of expected Olly Alexander to go all out, but it feels weirdly toned down…Maybe the staging will sell it more🤷.
Bring on the milkmaids!
It seems that issues with artist payments and order fulfilment are the main problems. That said that info comes from a redit thread and a Bleeding Cool story so could all be bullshit.
Just discovered there are a bunch of TNG/DS9 era Star Trek novels in the audiobook section of Spotify. Anyone got any recommendations?
Also, I’m about 50 hours into my Fallout New Vegas play through and i’m hitting the “I guess I’d better get on with the main storyline” phase.
For all of its content nothing in RDR2 tops RDR1’s journey into Mexico sequence.
(Fourth attempt posting that on the broken ass board)
My wife and I are catching Godzilla Minus One tomorrow before it leaves cinemas. I am looking foeward to seeing and and the prospectbof getting rid of both kids for a couple of hours!
So, this was fantastic. Did what any successful disaster movie does – use the large scale as a backdrop to tell small scale stories. Human stories where never overwrought and felt genuine. Large scale disaster lead to moments of breathless tension. Really glad the big G was left as a force of nature and there was no attempt to humanise him (with a corny scene along the lines of small child places hand on colapsed Godzilla and has a moment of connection when he opens his eye). There was a trailer for Kong / Godzilla before this and that looked like absolute souless dogshit in comparison.

Being reported that John M Burns has died.

As a bit of a treat to keep my youngest occupied on Christmas Eve, I picked up the ports of Portal and Portal 2 on the Switch. These games are all-time greats, so brilliantly simple in concept but with such imaginative challenges and a great sense of design. Just fantastic.
The two player mode in Portal 2 is one of the best couch coop modes I can remember. Hopefully thats in the Switch port and you get a chance to play it.
Is it just me or do the ever present warning messages look a little bit more serious over the past day or so.
As Ben suggested the fundraiser for Gibson’s funeral plans seems to have hit its target pretty quickly.
Ian Gibson has passed.
https://2000ad.com/news/ian-gibson-1946-2023/
It sounds like Ian Gibson is coming to the end of his life after a period of illness and being in and out of hospital.

The Warhammer 40k: Boltgun game is a lot of fun. Fast paced movement and good gunplay. All the weapons feel weighty and like they’d actually doing damage in real life. One of the better retro / boomer shooters I’ve recently played. Final level is a bit of a pain in the tits though (making you replay all the bosses you’d beaten earlier in the game).
Add us to the “have we skipped an episode?” and “wait, who’s Brad?” gang. Was nice to see Loki do some Loki-ing. Continue to love the aethstetic of the show.
John Burns retires making the nigh on unreadable (but great to look at) The Order one of his last gigs.

Finally bit the bullet and cancelled my pull list at my local comic shop. All that’s been on it for the last couple of years is 2000AD/Judge Dredd Megazine. Given we’ve mived out to beyond the city suburbs and have two kids I was only getting to the shop once every couple of months and, as a result, it was a chore finding time to sit and read the backlog. Feel a bit guilty as five minutes after leaving the shop I set up a mail order subscription for 2000AD/Judge Dredd Megazine but, ultimately, the saving on cost and the convenience of getting it delivered straight to my door each week outweighed the sense of being a loyal customer that’s kept my pull list on life support for the past few years.
My wife used it fairly recently (last 12 months or so) to get a Wii game disc repaired for our eldest. The susc wasnt badly damaged. A couple minor scratches but it wouldnt load beyond the title menu. I’m not 100% sure what the repair process entails. I think they have a machine that buffs the disc / removes a thin layer of plastic from it. Whatever they did it worked.
Long story short: it’s worth going into the store and asking.
Ah, I didnt think to check on Netflix itself.
https://www.joe.ie/amp/movies-tv/netflix-batman-animated-series-watch-780955
Apparently Batman TAS is coming to UK Netflix. I was initially excited by this but, given the news is only being reported on the above “who the fuck are these guys” I’ve reined in my expectations.
Negative press? The only thing I’ve really read that can be construed as negative is folks complaining that Microsoft have quietly killed the £1 trial of Game Pass ahead of Starfield’s release.
My access since the server move has been intermittent – logged in, logged out, after clearing cache, and trying to use incognito mode I keep getting 403. All Chrome for Android. Latest seems to match in with Todd’s timings above.
Yakuza 5 – the janky taxi driving / racing missions are kind of addictive and account for a majority of my 7½hr playtime.
Been playing the xbox one version of Skyrim since May. Racked up about 200 hours on it. Not done with it – still hot the Solsteim / Dragonborn DLC to do but I’m feeling pretty burned out so planning to take a break from it. Planning of a palette clenser of indie puzzler Superliminal before getting stuck in to Yakuza 5. Then maybe back to finish off Skyrim.
I’m not a fan of kickstarters but I couldn’t not back this.
Same here. Ive backed load of overpriced mediocre comics there in the past but occasionally a gem will pop up on it. (Last thing i backed before this was the excellent Gamesmaster hustory book).

Hit almost double its target in the first two hours.
Was that roger taylor?
Yes, on closer inspection it is.
Derek Jacobi drumming for Sam Ryder.
Watching the recap my favs are:
Austria
Serbia
France
Finland
Czechia
Australia
Norway
Germany
I think Finland will get the win in the end tho.
Is the tall host really tall, or are the other hosts really short?
Crap rap.
Haven’t the UK pissed Europe off enough with all the BREXIT nonsense? This will do nothing to mend the relationship.
Shit, it’s M Bison, ge the Street Fighter jokes out yet again.
I wonder if Mel is still wearing that milkmaid outfit…
These lads are not as good as they think they are. Smug pricks
Crap Diem more like
I bet that German bloke stole her trousers for one of the legs.
It’s the Inception corridor fight scene but lit with lights knicked from a brothel
Nice enough song from Lithuania, hurt by following the full on German performance though
Doof Warriors from a parallel dimension made entirely of latex.
Does Cyprus has an extra trouser leg he can lend this lad?
That needed something like a little person with a flute to elevate to proper Eurovison banger. So close but missed the mark
A cape. Always worth points in my book.
Ukraine: 80’s budget dystopian future sci fi extras.
Also, a brief cameo from the main character from the flop 90s beat em up Rise of The Robots.
Is that pulsing thing on the screen meant to be an eyeball or an anus?
Wanker with a top knot. Backing singer’s hair is on point though.
You know what, Mel G churning butter actually does something for me…
Skit incoming? I’m away to put the kettle on
Boss Hog wants his hat back mate.
The old texan from the simpsons wants his hat back mate.
Boy George wants his hat back mate.
I dig this as an actual song. Having Jason Momoa on drums is just a bonus.
IS the background pink because they’ve used up half of the reds earlier in the show?
Get together with the lad from Cyprus and you’ve nearly got a complete outfit.
I’ve been to Finland and, disapointingly, it was nothing like this.
BBC constuming finally getting a chance to reuse that broken chandelier from that one episode of Only Fools and Horses.
Elden Ring on a budget.
Albanian Claire Balding.
That podium / roof thing is giving me heave “roof crush traps from the original Doom” vibes.
Shit, someone needs a pedicure.
Junior Eurovision? I didn’t realise there was a way to make children even more intolerable.
Ah, wait, get one of the wee pricks to talk to camera, that’ll do it.
Junior Eurovision? I didn’t realise there was a way to make children even more intolerable.
Blanca? Quick! Recycle those Street Fighter jokes!
CYprus haven’t won in their 39 previous entries? Not happening this time either with that dullness
They don’t need to say this is France’s entry.
Though if they did they should have put on an ouuuuuuuuutrageous accent
The woman from the Scottish Widows advert?
Ok, I actually like this. The music is giving me a bit of a Gary Numan vibe.
Cut price Timothee Chalamet next
Dispaointing lack of male dancer’s nipples in this act.
Blanka’s performance may contain strobe lighting…
Great. A ballad, and a Swiss one at that.
The last time the Swiss did this, the singer was a serial killer.
Some would say his victims were lucky, being spared this snoozefest.
Great. A ballad, and a Swiss one at that.
Portugal: It’s catchy but it isn’st exactly screaming Eurovision
The grown-up Teletubbies reboot is looking pretty good
Po getting his own song here. Are the other three getting one to?
Absolutely thrilled Luxumberg are back next year
I’ve got a 10k running race tomorrow so I’ll be doing Eurovision without a drink in hand. Wish me luck…
Fatality!
The Meg by Steven Alten. Absolute trash but goddamn it a giant prehistoric shark just tried to eat a helicopter so the book is doing exactly what was expect of it. Best waste of £2.63 I’ve spent in a while.
March blog!
Alt rock, more goth, some banging techno and a few other bits and pieces. Great month again.
The Spotlights EP is 100% chefs kiss. I’ve got SOWT and Memoria queued up for later too
Thanks @bruce on that Shoegaze link… I haven’t seen you posting in while. Where did you come from? Lurking and then out of the woodworks apparently. 🤣🤣🤣
Ah, just been busy with work and two kids. Browsing the site on mobile is a bit of a pain in the arse too thus havent been on in ages.
This one I can’t quite figure out:
As for meme people then and now:
A playlist of a few YouTube video about the people behind the memes.
2023’s new release schedule starting strong.
I was at a wee advanced screening last night for a documentary – Tog do Shuil (Painted City) – about the Aberdeen street art scene. It was nice to see the city, which has a reputation for being a dour place, portraid in a positive light. Plus you get to see me stick my ugly mug through a hole in a graffiti wall in the opening minutes! 😂 It’s being aired on BBC Alba – the BBC’s Scottish Gaelic channel – tonight at 9pm brfore going live on the iplayer.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m001gzyv
No connection to the original three movies or the 2013 remake but this looks like it could be a decent wee nasty movie.
Since moving out beyond the suburbs I rarely get to the comic shop in town. My latest haul had about three months of Progs which I spent the past few nights working through. I work through them a story at a time. Doing this with the latest instalments of Hope did not make it any easier to follow. I actually had to double check the Prog numbers as I thought I’d muddled my pile up. It very much feels like we’ve been dropped in the middle of an ongoing story with the thread about the film canister and “witches coven”. I’m hoping thinks will tie together in the end but it isn’t really playing the weekly anthology game all that well. I will agree that the art is real nice but I do find the use of photo reference a bit distracting (Ian McKellen in perticular draws me out of the story each time).
dive and then break the dive to glide through this small tunnel
I am actually having heart palpitations thanks to this once repressed memory being dredged back up to the surface. Thanks Al 😂
