I discovered Rick and Morty is on HBO max and thought I’d give it a shot: it’s now one of my top 5 television comedies of all time.

The writing is so fucking good! I can’t believe it was there all those years and I wrote it off as the “in thing” so never bothered to check it out. I was expecting Family Guy style humor but it’s much closer to early Simpsons (with gore and fart jokes tossed in).

I ended up buying season 5 on Prime (I never purchase shows) since it isn’t available on HBO yet….one episode left.

Also just started West World, so far it’s pretty good.

This is just another example for white U.S. citizens that they should take the law into their own hands…. I’ve never had to point my guns at another person and hope I never do, unfortunately some people are just itching for an opportunity to do so.

    This is fuckin nuts.

I’m not sure how Manson identifies religiously (nor am I defending him) but most “satanists” are simply trolling the church. I wouldn’t put much stock into professed “religions”, there’s a whole lot of “christians” that rape and murder.

Thanks everyone, the version Dave posted doesn’t seem to be available in the US.

It’s aimed for the UK market and the URL will automatically switch to the US one on that link (I tried myself and it took me to .com instead of co.uk). Type in this one with the UK address and it should show. You can order in the US from Amazon UK, and vice versa, and the price is decent but check the shipping cost which will of course be more than usual.

Thanks everyone, the version Dave posted doesn’t seem to be available in the US. I’d prefer the vol 2 label for consistency with my collection (should have got it when it was released!) and I’m not a fan of the Netflix badge on the book. I might try to find an original, ($50 for a used library copy) but I still haven’t finished the run so even a vol 4 version is better than nothing.

  • #66115

Help me out here folks. I want to get a TPB of Jupiter’s legacy vol 2. Since the Netflix acquisition of MW it seems like they have reworked the titles,is there a trade for the original Legacy vol 2? Everything I’ve seen is Legacy vol 2 containing the original Circle books.

Someone point me in the right direction please!

We did a rewatch of Pink Floyd’s The Wall on the big screen with my daughter and her boyfriend. They had never seen it and it had been over 20 years for my wife and I. Absolutely amazing combination of imagery and music. One of the few movies that I remembered as “great” that held up to the expectation.

Pretty disappointed it was cancelled, even for all it’s flaws I really enjoyed the performances, especially the “Circle” portions of the story. (I’m a sucker for a period piece!)

I was really looking forward to seeing the stories from JC2 brought to screen, that was probably my favorite run of the Jupiter’s series. At least I got to see one scene with a live action Skyfox.

This seemed like a wasted opportunity.

My job site near Seattle has been shut down all week due to the air quality. I’m one of three people allowed to work out of the 600 that are staying home without pay. The first day I was wearing a N95 mask but the superintendent said it was still too much exposure for a 9 hour shift. Now I have his truck parked at the gate so I can run the filtered AC and  sit inside. Personally, I don’t think idling a truck all day is a great idea but I’ll go along with it as long as I can keep my job.

We had planned a camping trip to Cannon Beach for last weekend. Amber had made a map of filming locations from The Goonies but we’ll have to make it a spring trip now.

Poor kid had her graduation, 18th birthday party and summer gigs cancelled due to covid, now this… can’t catch a break.

My wife and I got married on the cheap at a state park overlooking the Mississippi River. I think it was just under $3000 with about 150 people. That included our rings, clothes (made by friends with us providing the leather), 2 tents, tables & chairs, a stone and log open shelter with a fire place, catering and music.

I actually thought it was expensive until my best man told me he spent $30,000 on his wedding the year before!

My daughter’s band has been unable to meet for rehearsal or gigs since March due to the virus. Their band director has really stepped up and has been working with them one at a time over Skype. He’s done a great job keeping them engaged in the music and mixing their individual rehearsals into finished songs. Hopefully they’ll be able to do some small shows this fall. Amber has one more year before she moves past the age limit and really wants to do another show at the Hard Rock Cafe before they break up.

Love is pretty hard to define, simplistically it’s just a chemical reaction in our brains that causes a comforting and pleasurable state. I think it’s mostly brought about by behavioral traits of the individual we have that “feeling” for as well as long term familiar comfort. That’s why I love my siblings, cousins, etc, even when they’re being assholes or pissing me off in general.

Romantic love: same as above but you want to bang the person.

Infatuation: A compulsion to feel “Love” from the presence of another. Often placing unrealistic expectations on one’s self and the responses of the other individual.

Keep in mind I don’t have any clinical training in this area of study. However I have smoked quite a bit of high quality cannabis today.

I’ve been looking for a new comedy to watch and stumbled across Norsmen on Netflix. I looked up some reviews and this is the one that convinced me to check it out:

The is what happens when Scandinavians think too highly of themselves. It’s a dark comedy that isn’t even funny. The actors are too pretty, botox’d and plasticified – it’s pretty much an ego trip. Perhaps it was 1200 years ago that the Viking scum invaded the Island, which is now known as the United Kingdom, but it’s still fresh in my mind. Since when is it funny to joke about rape, murdering innocents, taking slaves and stealing a kingdoms food, crafts, goods and precious items. Karma is beach, so they say, and Scandinavians will eventually get theirs – from what I see, it’s pretty much happening already to their country with uncontrolled immigration … Now the rapers become the raped. Not a funny show, just arrogant and ugly. King Alfred was a close ancestor of mine and his wish of a United Kingdom happened, generations of my ancestors went through hell at the hands of the so called ‘North Men’ or as they are more commonly known as pagan scum ! Vikings are not cool, and Scandinavians will get the Karma they deserve – it’s 1200 years late, but it’s coming. I’m a mix of Irish, Caledonian and Saxon (English, Scottish and Irish) …we don’t forget.

Anything that provokes that kind of reaction is worth looking into! :rose:

The first episode was pretty good, I’m giving the second a look today…

Valentine’s day is approaching and though my wife and I haven’t celebrated it with gifts for many years, this time I’m doing something unexpected.

Just before Christmas she lost the center stone from her engagement ring. With my daughter’s help, I snuck the ring out of her jewelry box and had the sapphire replaced as well as the surrounding diamonds tightened up. I gave it to her for her birthday in January (first she got an oven mitt, lowering expectations makes the real gift that much sweeter! :-) )

My ring was lost 15 years ago and was custom so not easily replaced or reproduced but when she put hers back on she got teary eyed remembering that we used to have matching rings. So I digitally scanned our wedding photos, spent a few days sketching my ring and will be picking up what is hopefully a faithful recreation of it on Monday.

She’ll be surprised to get a Valentine’s day present at all but will be blown away when she opens it.

I haven’t bought any fine jewelry since 1995, the ring is more than 4 times the original cost…..its just GOLD for cryin out loud!

  • #9503

Sounds like the internet drama surrounding the film is more entertaining than the actual movie! I’ll watch it for free, shouldn’t be more than a few days before it’s available.

  • #9408

I really do like the film a lot. Other than Kick-Ass it’s probably the comic movie adaptation I’ve rewatched the most as an adult. (I worn out 2 copies of Superman on VHS as a kid)

I think a lot of people slam it because of the change to Adrian’s plan. I had never read the GN when I saw the movie so I didn’t have any preconceived notions about what I should or shouldn’t be getting.

Even after reading the GN I still think the film gets it right more than it doesn’t.  There isn’t much I don’t like about it. There’s a few bits of clunky dialogue but the story and overall tone work really well. Especially when you compare it to other formulaic popcorn superhero movies.

  • #9386

The film is fucking awesome and I’ll tell you why.. SHUT UP! That’s why.

  • #9325

I haven’t watched much TV this year, I forced myself to finish GOT and will never revisit season 8 (the only one I don’t own a copy of) Stranger things 3 was meh but the Watchmen left me wanting more every week. I’m still watching HDM but my interest is waning mostly due to the acting and clunky dialogue.

  • #9308

It was never stated that the device would prevent him from remembering so I think it still works story wise. The bigger issue (the GN suffers this as well)  is trying to write a character that perceives time the way Dr M does. When you try to write the impossible into a “real” world setting, it gets pretty messy.

  • #9299

The despecialized  2.0 OT the only way I watch it now. Though I’ve heard there’s a 4K version in the works.

  • #9295

One of the aspects I enjoyed in the writing was that lots of seemingly unimportant details ended up being part of the main plot. It didn’t smack you over the head with it but became apparent during the last two episodes how all of it tied together.

Seeing as how this is a sequel written decades later and not by the original author, it’s pretty solid. (I like the GN but don’t see it as AWESOME as many others do)

  • #9195

That’s a pretty cool nugget about Lube man, I never really expected any background on him. Just assumed his presence in the show was to let the audience know there are still masked heroes operating independent of the”official” masked cops.

  • #9165

I pretty much agree with all of Jon’s praise and none of his complaints about the show.

After swimming the first 8 episodes on Saturday I had a pretty good idea about what the end would be. I don’t think it was obvious though, it required paying attention and a bit of knowledge about the GN helped.

There was some fan service or easter eggs but nothing that I found distracting or unwarranted to include.

The final confrontation definitely felt VERY comic-booky but considering this is a comic book story, it didn’t bother me much. Laurie’s presence in the 7K lair after the plan was revealed was a bit silly, and I was disappointed Looking Glass didn’t have a bigger part in the foil but overall I’d say they stuck the landing for the show.

I’m torn about another season, I really like Angela but leaving her story hanging might be better than taking a chance seeing it crash and burn in another season.

    I give it a B+

  • #9022

  • #8686

In all honesty that’s one of the best scenes in Star Wars.

Agreed. I love it.  It’s when I knew the film was going to be great.

Ironically reading this post is when I knew Ronnie had his head up his ass. :-)

  • #8684

I thought it was really good, loved the paradox set up with Angela talking to HJ across the time stream. I don’t get why they aren’t showing DM’s face except as Cal (is that supposed to be like “Kal”? ) All told it was a solid episode and made me want to see the finale immediately. I’m not sure where it’s all headed but being a Stephen King has made me well prepared for unhappy and even unsatisfactory endings. :-)

  • #8609

I’ve read some pretty interesting spoilers for the next DSW film (not something I’ve ever done for any movie before). I’m not going to go into them but I’m waiting for a full synopsis after the movie is out to see how accurate they are. I don’t expect anything but a mine of comdey gold from this movie, that’s all I want.

  • #8454

I’m not worried, as I already know I’m voting for Trump no matter what

That’s some pretty rigid thinking bro! I can’t imagine supporting any candidate “no matter what” at this stage. Sometimes you have to step outside your preconceived notions and actually absorb information to make an individual choice. Tossing a vote to Mr White Nationalist hugger just because he pretends to be a Republican seems short sighted.

  • #8338

That’s any work of fiction though, using flashbacks to explain away the rediculous isn’t what’s happening with this show. It doesn’t appear to be that desperate or lazy in it’s story telling (too me).

  • #8332

The “problem” of future sight in a story ( like time travel) is that it creates paradoxes that can’t be explained with logic. That’s one reason I don’t analyze stories with either of those two elements too deeply, it can unravel pretty quick. The GN has the same issue with Dr Manhattan’s future sight.

I’m sure the question of why Jon is pretending to be Cal will get answered and I don’t see a contradiction with the GNs ending, Jon could have changed his mind or just flat out lied about what he was going to do.

  • #8253

Did anyone else pick up on the closing music for the last episode? Perfection!

  • #8129

Bloomberg wasn’t my favorite Mayor of NYC, but I’d vote for him over Trump.

Not exactly a glowing endorsement! :-)

  • #8098

I’m loving this show, it’s great entertainment and an interesting look at the Watchmen “what if” alternate history. Personally I’m just looking to be entertained for an hour a week so I don’t dig too deep into scrutinizing it. There are certainly flaws but I don’t see a Trainwreck coming.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything by Lindelof so I’m not (yet) convinced this will end unsatisfactory.

Breaking Bad really stuck the landing, maybe the best TV show start to finish that I’ve ever seen. It makes me hesitant to watch an epilogue. It’s a point of contention in our house at the moment! :-)

I just realized the upvote for a post is at the TOP of the post now! I’ve been liking the wrong fucking posts!!!
Still can’t figure out the picture thing, Ronnie tried to help but I’m hopeless.
On another note, my screen has the green background cutting off the edges of the text box when making a post, do I need to adjust something in the settings? Also don’t see a post preview button…

I never watched Twin Peaks when it was on originally, I didn’t have television reception after 1990. When I heard they were filming a sequel series right down the road from us (had no idea the original was filmed here) I thought it would be fun to check out on Netflix and see familiar sites in a TV show. It was so bad my kid was asking me to turn it off halfway through the pilot. I insisted we plow through and even give the next episode a shot but aside from Cooper it was a soap opera Trainwreck of bad acting, bad dialogue and terrible pacing. The god awful music being poorly cued at odd moments didn’t help either. We gave up after two episodes and that was that… except it wasn’t! :-)

I got sick as hell last week and have been in bed for most of 6 days (I went into work Monday but was sent home by my foreman) I was bored so I started watching it again. I made it to the middle of season 2 when the main plot line gets resolved but lost interest in all the loose ends that weren’t tied up by then. I think this show survives (and got a sequel) based on mostly nostalgia. In 1990 it was pretty edgy compared to most TV so I can see the attraction at the time but it doesn’t hold up very well any more.
Highlight: seeing David Duchovny in drag :mail:
