From the tape, Anthony Joshua is over 20 lbs heavier, more muscle, longer arms (reach) and less removed from his pro career than the others Jake faced. When he KO’d Jake, he made this slit throat sign. Anthony just got a whole new following. 🤣

I wished Tyson did this to him last year. But…Tyson did get 23M which helped him a lot. And the other bouts on the ticket were good. A lot of boxers got exposure from these Jake Paul events. But Antony Joshua gets a HUGE shout out for what he did.

MacKenzie Scott (Jeff Bezos 1st) got a 37B divorce from Jeff (not that it hurt him. Amazon made 40B the following 6 months because of the pandemic back then. The river goes into the ocean.) And she gave a lot of it away:

Absolute line is doing good. Less doom and gloom than Marvel’s Ultimate line.

Really? The whole point of both is that they’re new universes created by villains who designed them to be as hopeless and hostile to heroes as possible. They seem pretty similar to me.

I admit I have some catching up to the Absolute, but from the Ultimate line, the Maker really screwed over that Marvel Universe. He crippled so much of it.

Absolute was more about some energy spark from the dying Darkseid. Anyway… fans love the Absolute Batman and the line for Snyder yesterday was so long it went around the store into an alley

Eh, I think that crowd is pretty good at switching realities when they need to.

You know.. cults are usually associated with fringe religious groups with a head person like a David Koresh, Jim Jones, Sung Myung Moon, that Heavens Gate guy, but it can also be applied outside of that like extreme devotion to a company, and politics right here. My mistake was going straight from Fallen Order to Survivor. Halfway through Survivor I was burned out from the Star Wars setting and I took a break and went to the Spider man games and some Assassins Creed.

Now I have returned to Survivor and parts of it remind me of Tomb Raider. I worked through a maze and level and took this elevator and find out that it opened up to another level I was at before but I couldn’t open the door. Now I went full circle.

Last year had that red and blue lines chart of the breakdown of voters. But how accurate is it to say for example that 92% of AA voted blue?

The best way I ever heard it put was think of an actual huge pot of soup or stew. Now you can’t take the whole thing, but if it is stirred thoroughly, you can take a spoonful of it, taste it, and that will tell you how it is. So with statistics and all the stat and math ways to take a sample size, check for bias, test and measure for accuracy etc. that sample size will give you the whole picture.

But it is hard to believe that 47 got rid of the Labor Statistics commissioner because the numbers are what they are. He wanted to replace him with someone who can inflate the numbers to his favor. But what about the Wall Street investors, financial analysts, sociologists, economists etc. who depend on accurate labor reports for their studies, analysis, decisions, and strategies? Ridiculous.

Regarding ACA(“Obamacare”) this doctor gave a nice explanation. You can tell why the GOP really didn’t like it and why they wanted to shoot it down. We in the States just can’t have nice things

Then Stacy Abrams brings up the autocrat playbook:

    @drjessicaknurick

For the last 15 years, the Republican healthcare plan has just been to repeal the Affordable Care Act. And in their effort to do that, they’re now trying to frame the ACA subsidies as some kind of giveaway to health insurance companies, which is wildly disingenuous. These are the same lawmakers who spent years voting to repeal profit caps on insurers, expand high-deductible plans that shift costs to patients, and block any form of public option that would’ve actually competed with private insurance.  Suddenly, they’re deeply concerned about insurance company profits? The ACA subsidies were designed to make coverage affordable for working- and middle-class Americans and to keep people insured in a system Republicans insisted remain private.  But if Republicans are finally ready to talk about reducing insurance company profits, amazing. The logical next step is a universal healthcare system, like every other high income country in the entire world — and I genuinely welcome them to that fight.

We were honored to have Stacey Abrams join us for our John Lewis Young Leaders retreat, where she walked us through the 10 steps to autocracy. Democracy can’t defend itself. It’s on us to show up, speak up, and keep fighting.

This John Fetterman guy (1 of the 8) who caved in:

He is a senator. But there is something about voters not seeing the larger picture, not reading the room, not seeing how things intersect, and this ignoring and not seeing other people’s experiences, seeing themselves as “the exception” and not “next”:

In truth, like this pic here, some actually ended up voting for their own deportation. But what were they thinking? They saw all this in the news: the border situation, kids in cages, how Puerto Rico was treated. They were blinded to thinking they were the exception instead of next.

Then the Midwest farmers who voted MAGA to “put the Dems and libs in their place”: It turned out that the subsidies and contracts they depended on were by Biden and the Dems and got discontinued. They all ended up voting for their own foreclosures and they now have insult added to injury: The trade war with China has China going to South America for agriculture produce like soybeans etc. hurting US farm exports and now the farmers see the US admin with a 20B bailout to their competitor Argentina. wow…

Now on social there are all these out-of-towners who never set foot in the city making snide remarks about Mamdani and NYC next year ie, all the rich move out, wishful thinking that everything will be free, city will be so screwed over. Like they are all highly educated political analysts. Sigh…

And yet… when it comes to them getting a subsidy they call it “basic service”… During the shutdown, there were a few MAGA on social with their “pick me” explanations about being on SNAP, going out of their way to “differentiate” their use of it from “the rest”. They don’t mind the “basic service”, but when other demographics get it just the same, all of a sudden it’s communism and socialism, waste of taxpayer money. They don’t mind it for themselves, they just don’t want the others to have equal access.

It’s all another answer to: “What’s trashy if you’re poor, but classy if you’re rich?” – a government subsidy.
Also: Speaking a second language, California, Florida, NYC, getting money from the government

    Few things:

These “What if?” or “Elseworlds” stories about alternate events of a given known story usually never end well. It might be on purpose to just say that the original written story was the best one and we got it right the first time. And it’s not just comics. The Star Trek “Strange New Worlds” had an alternate reality episode where Pike remained captain and how he handled the Romulan ship in “The Balance of Terror”. Stephen King’s story about time travel and preventing the JFK assassination ended up with some US conservative movement and George Wallace got in the White House and started WW3. (I’d like to think that if Oswald didn’t do anything, the Vietnam situation would never have escalated, the Beatles would have played the WH, the 60s would have been different etc. but not WW3)

It seems there is no “What if?” story where in the alternate reality things turned out better.

    ——————

DC and Marvel have put out a few crossover stories – I Always wondered about these Marvel v DC character but then it turns out it’s really one character fighting their analogue counterpart. I always wanted a Superman vs. Gladiator but it was John Byrne who developed Gladiator’s powers and feats as more telekinetic etc. instead of just brute strength. Then years later when he went to DC and was given the Superman reboot, Superman’s powers and his picking up huge oversized structures were the same. The match up would just be a battle of analogues. Supreme is just a thinly veiled you know who…

    —————

Seeing the old X Factor of the original 5 X-men compared to them from 1963 just shows how altered characters get to remain relevant. Beast, Angel to Archangel, Marvel Girl to Phoenix, Iceman no longer looking like a snowman. Then in the X titles how Psylocke originally was in her pink outfit and butterfly aura, the Siege Perilous (or Plot Device) and how she was redone in this sexy Asian body with a psychic knife and an Elektra outfit but in blue. It made her more noticeable though. So many other examples not just Marvel.

NYC may be “blue” mostly, but In one of the boroughs (Staten Island) there are huge communities that are MAGA. There were some remarks made about Mamdani promising free bus routes and rent freeze as being “socialist” and the retort is that none of them complain about the Staten Island Ferry to Manhattan being free. 🤣

As for “free” things, Mamdani would have to work something out with Transit, the governor, and as for some rent freeze for seniors, he has to deal with landlord coalitions and orgs. Good luck with all that.

So the Dodgers won. Game 7 was intense though. Unlikely players like Miguel Rojas saved the day. And Yamamoto.

LA has class. But MLB allows them to structure annuity contracts like this one with Ohtani:

It’s a very backloaded contract, that helps avoid paying huge US taxes and doesn’t weigh down the team payroll budget so they can add more players. The guy is in his early 30s, makes 2M until he retires and heads back to Japan in his early 40s and then the balloon payments of 68M all those years. And LA already made back the 700M from all the marketing they did. All the best Asian players prefer the West Coast teams as they are a much closer plane ride than say NY and Philadelphia. I guess people will start calling them the Tokyo Dodgers soon. 🤣

How can the Mets compete? Who knows? Maybe tap into the Latin America talent more and have that as a talent pipeline.

I watch MMA sometimes and MacKenzie Dern won a belt last week. I know her because she is Brazilian but been in Arizona all her life.
She won but I have my reservations about her having her young daughter with her afterwards on the mat, on interviews with that huge eye bruise, having her wear the belt.

Well, I used to say that the ladies do that about me but I digress.🤣

The government shutdown has SNAP benefits discontinued for the time being which will mean 42M households will have to put food on their tables somehow without that subsidy. This month will be… interesting. Happy Thanksgiving.

I give the Blue Jays credit. They lost the long game, but bounced back and won the last two.
Looks like the Dodgers ended up more fatigued than Toronto.
I thought that LA would sweep and close it out at home but now they have to trek back to Toronto

Who knows? Maybe Yamamoto goes 8 innings tonight and pushes it to Game 7 OR… the Toronto crowd
excites Vlad, Bichette, and the rest to have a big game and they celebrate tonight on their home field.
    We will see.

As a chess fan, I followed the big names, tournaments, and videos on YT, but the death of Naroditsky is taking its toll on the chess world right now. A lot is going on about online witch hunts, false accusations, and overall cyber bullying. It’s more than just about having a thick skin. It’s a tragedy and it will take time for the chess world to recover.

Don’t look now, but with this government shutdown affecting the SNAP benefits of 42M Americans by mid November.
    We’ll see.

We are a long way off from calling Ohtani a modern day Babe Ruth. Let’s come back in ten years to discuss if he is or not.

I think it’s fair to compare Ohtani to Babe Ruth in the sense that he is a home-run hitter who is also a pitcher. Not too many of those in modern baseball.

He is. In that last game, he struck out 10 in 6 innings and hit 3 HRs in the deep areas of the stadium.
He is the genuine article. He started his MLB career in 2018 with the Angels. He is both an ace pitcher and a power hitter.
There is a reason why the Dodgers paid 700M to get him (A structured contract of 2M/yr until 2034, then 68M/yr the next 10 years)
    He is the real deal.

This hits me hard because I am a chess enthusiast and followed him. Not even 30:

    https://en.as.com/other_sports/chess-player-and-youtuber-danya-naroditsky-dies-at-29-what-is-the-cause-of-death-f202510-n/

Now… For the past few years, former World Champion Kramnik has been very vocal and online with accusations, put downs, and overall cyber bullying various players accusing them of cheating, using engines during tournaments etc, and many of the accused have been so stressed out. Naroditsky always admired and looked up to him (there are pics of him as a kid next to Kramnik) and now there is this statement by the FIDE president:

This No Kings is in so many other countries.

It just gets to me about voter mentality ie. the single issue voters, voting against your own interests just to spite others, voters ignorant of how connected things are, voters who ignore facts and fair warnings of what would happen, and it led to 45 being reelected again. What a mess!

Looking at the NFL standings, it might an off year for everybody
Baltimore and Miami are 1-5, Chiefs are at .500
No one looks that strong. The Eagles don’t look dominant.

Maybe some team will regroup and play strong the rest of the way. We’ll see

  • #142196

Well, the Jays sort of rebounded and won last night (they would be down 3 if they didn’t)
We will see if they can tie it.
