I’d rather see nothing at all than the kind of terrible, heavy-handed, clichéd writing and film-making that establishes Cyborg as a character in the Znyder version. Ugh.

  • #92645

On MW, we used to go back and forth all the time about the two movies as did everybody else on line.

    Now this:

Yeah, but there’s more than two ways to make a Superman movie, right? You can take risks that pay off or ones that don’t. You can do something new that’s good or something new that’s terrible. You can be different to Reeve without it having to be the Snyder/Cavill take. And you can strike a balance between action and character drama that isn’t all one way or the other.

It feels like these kinds of memes encourage people to think in unrealistically binary, reductive ways, and I can’t decide whether that’s the best thing ever or absolutely terrible.

    Yep, exactly.

Man of Steel was very nearly a good movie. But it didn’t quite get there.

    (Fuck David Goyer.)

  • #92668

You’re right, it’s an awesome movie!!! it’s only flaw is it’s not longer… xD

That meme is spot on though… very applicable to those Reeve boomers who can’t see past those shitty old ass movies…

Reeve boomers who can’t see past those shitty old ass movies…

    That statement though.

I remember the theater in 1978.

The first two Reeve movies have to be appreciated relative to the time, like the original Star Wars trilogy

You are right though about not seeing past the nostalgia and holding on to it way too long.  A bad habit.

I still think the perfect Superman movie was written years ago but never filmed:

  • #92676

I like elements of both Superman Returns and Man of Steel, but don’t think either ended up being good movies. And I agree that the meme is pretty reductive. I think everyone who had criticisms of those movies were very clear on the criticism. I agreed with some and less with others, but often found the criticism valid either way.

You can buy it on the Microsoft store here now, but it can only be watched on Microsoft products: https://www.microsoft.com/en-ie/p/season-1/8d6kgwxn6klv

No, iTunes, Amazon, etc don’t sell TV shows in Ireland, only Microsoft and sometimes Sky. It’s on iTunes in the UK, but in the US it’s just on HBO Max.

It is possible to buy things on UK or US iTunes using gift cards, though you need to have a separate Apple account, and it’s a bit of a pain.

iTunes at least can be played on my Fire Stick, PC, etc.

Yeah, like Paul says, it’s not streaming anywhere – including Sky, where I’d hoped it’d come out.

Cheers for the Microsoft thing, Paul, I’ve never used it (not having an XBox, I pretty much stuck to amazon to buy movies or shows), but I guess this’ll me my first time…

I see they also have Doom Patrol Season 3, which I also wasn’t able to get anywhere. It’s weird, I wonder if Microsoft has a different deal when it comes to selling content internationally…

Eh, I doubt it. She’s got a shit load of bad publicity around her, but if the reports are true and she’s only in around 10 minutes of the actual film, I’d think they’d just leave her in to avoid the hassle and negative PR.

  • #93382

Someone, somewhere will be planning a remake of The War Of The Roses starring Heard and Depp. Best of luck to them. Perhaps Ezra Miller can play the lawyer.

Batman: The Worst Part Of Every Movie

Looked at the newest movie first, and, uh:

If there is one problem with Reeves’ feature, it’s that Catwoman (well played by Zoë Kravitz) and her abilities as a thief aren’t fully explored.

Of all the problems that movie has (and there’s quite a few), that’s not one.

I guess I won’t be reading what the article has to say about the other movies.

Over in the DC Comics thread I posted about Bruce Campbell writing a Sgt. Rock vs. The Army of the Dead 6-issue mini with Eduardo Risso on art.

A friend responded to me that that would nake a great TV mini and I thought Yes, Yes it would.

Then my braian got going and now I think HBO Max should be all over Weird War Tales series (a Weird Western one too).
Horror, Supernatural, and Sci-Fi with characters we know and love and want to see again.

I would watch the hell out of that.

Movie looks okay, trailer is a bit shit, Hawkman looks terrible. Oh and Sarah Shahi

It does the job of a trailer in that I’m interested. I can see a lot of ways it could go wrong – especially if the movie is actually not like the trailer and suddenly the studio then wants it to be cut more like a popular trailer.

Dwayne Johnson is not really a proven success at this kind of role. He’s usually carrying action roles with comedic elements. This is a comic book movie but it’s not really funny. He reminded me a bit of his Hercules and Scorpion King roles.

  • #93988

Could be good. I liked the first Joker, although I had some problems watching it the first time. The second time I liked it better. I had a problem with the depiction of mental illness and the darkness of the movie, which was all a bit too much on the nose. But it was enjoyable if you don’t take it too seriously.

  • #93997

I’m up for a Lady Gaga musical, not really interested in the Joker.

  • #94026

As someone who didn’t like The Joker at all, a weird musical with Lady Gaga is just batshit goofy enough to get me to maybe watch a Joker sequel.

  • #94038

If that’s real, it’s potentially kind of awesome. But I still haven’t even seen the first one…

Black Adam trailer looks okay. Hadn’t realised that this was a JSA movie – that part is going to get my butt into the theatre.
(Not because I am a huge JSA fan, which I’m not as such, but because a movie featuring some more DC heroes just sounds like more fun than one focusing just on Black Adam.)

  • #94062

Meh, Joker is honestly just a whatever movie that’s carried by Phoenix’ performance, which is indeed great… without that it’s just a mediocre ripoff of other (better) movies.

Point being, I’m sure they could get away with doing the same for a potential sequel, but honestly, what’s even the point? Joker is clearly a one and done movie. If they really want to do a Harley-focused musical, then just call it Harley or whatever and have it be its own thing too.

Actually, it could be interesting to explore the bat-villains in one-offs like that, but I wish they’d use other villains… there’s too many jokers and harleys at this point… where’s the love for Mr. Freeze?

Ezra Miller ‘to be dropped from DC Universe after The Flash release’ after grooming allegations

    That film is rightly fucked.

It’s supposed to be released a year from now but I wonder if that will even happen. I have a feeling that the Miller situation will deteriorate further in the coming months. Sadly, I wouldn’t be surprised if Miller commits suicide or somehow dies. WB might release it as a “tribute”. I still maintain they are going to add some scenes and change the ending to introduce a new Flash as a soft reboot of the franchise.

Assuming Miller is still alive, I wouldn’t be surprised if WB just bites the bullet and drops it on HBO Max with little fanfare.

Zaslav’s First Movie Crisis: What To Do With Ezra Miller, The Erratic Star Of Warner Bros’ $200M ‘Flash’ Franchise Launch

Even though it isn’t on the Warner Bros release calendar until June 23, 2023, The Flash is becoming Warner Bros Discovery CEO David Zaslav’s first movie crisis, because of the escalating coverage of incidents of volatile and odd behavior involving the film’s star, Ezra Miller.

Zaslav has made clear his desire to grow the DC Universe to MCU scale and has all the ingredients of a first foot forward in The Flash, including the return of Michael Keaton as Batman along with a reprise by Ben Affleck, a $200 million budget and a hot director in Andy Muschietti, who delivered the blockbuster It for the studio. The Warner Bros Discovery CEO exercised his well known penchant for micro-management by declining to greenlight Wonder Twins for being too niche. Zaslav will have to soon make a decision of what to do with the completed picture that is The Flash, and what to do with a young actor who appears to have serious off-set issues.

Deadline has heard the studio has tried getting help for Miller, but the troubling headlines continue to pile up. Could you send a potential liability on a global publicity tour and have the actor anchor a huge studio franchise play?

Zaslav has several choices and he will make one of them soon. Among them: He can pull back on heavily promoting the summer 2023 film, confining it to some P&A and no publicity tour. Or he can relegate it to streaming with HBO Max and take a write-down. Or lean in toward making the movie a hit and then drop Miller if they can’t straighten things out. Warner Bros did that when it dropped Johnny Depp from the Grindelwald character in the Fantastic Beasts franchise, after the actor’s well-publicized, unsuccessful UK lawsuit; the studio replaced Depp with Mads Mikkelsen.

“There is no winning in this for Warner Bros,” one studio source tells us. “This is an inherited problem for Zaslav. The hope is that the scandal will remain at a low level before the movie is released, and hope for the best to turn out.”

Sources said even if no more allegations surface, the studio won’t likely keep Miller in the Flash role in future DC films. That would mean replacing him in the future, but there is still a $200 million investment on the line with the first film and Warner Bros execs have to be cringing at each new press report.

There have been two more rounds of unflattering headlines just in the last two weeks for the 29-year old Miller, who identifies as nonbinary. The Daily Beast reported that there was a temporary harassment prevention order this week from a 12-year old and a mother in Greenfield, MA against the actor after Miller allegedly menaced the family and acted inappropriately toward the nonbinary child.

Last week, the parents of an 18-year-old named Tokata Iron Eyes filed paperwork asking a judge to issue an order of protection against the actor on behalf of their child, saying Miller groomed and brainwashed Tokata.

“Ezra uses violence, intimidation, threat of violence, fear, paranoia, delusions, and drugs to hold sway over a young adolescent Tokata,” read the filing, which was obtained by multiple outlets.

The 18-year-old’s parents allege the two met at Standing Rock Reservation in North Dakota when their child was just 12. The parents allege Miller gave Tokata alcohol and drugs, flew the child to London and to places such as Vermont, New York, California and Hawaii. This past week Miller deleted his Instagram account in the face of the North Dakota tribal summons; the actor allegedly mocking authorities about their whereabouts.

Tokata posted a video on Instagram defending Miller.

“It’s nobody’s business and nobody is owed a story or outcome,” Tokata said in the two-minute video. “This is my life and these are my decision and I’m disappointed in my parents and the press — in every way.”

Prior to the recent news about Tokata’s parents’ allegations against Miller, the actor was arrested twice in Hawaii for a dust-up at a karaoke bar in March followed by an arrest for second-degree assault at a residence a month later, for allegedly throwing a chair at a woman at a private party Miller attended, cutting her forehead. During the first incident, the Hawaii Police Department Hilo Patrol reported that Miller became “agitated” when patrons began singing “Shallow” from A Star Is Born.

“Miller began yelling obscenities and at one point grabbed the microphone from a 23-year-old woman singing karaoke (disorderly conduct offense) and later lunged at a 32-year-old man playing darts (harassment offense). The bar owner asked Miller to calm down several times to no avail.” The actor was arrested, and charged on both offenses with bail set at $500. Bail was provided and Miller was released.

Two days later, the couple who lived with Miller at a hostel filed a restraining order against the actor after Miller returned home from the karaoke bar, and allegedly threatened to “bury” them. Miller reportedly stole the wife’s passport and husband’s wallet. By mid-April, the restraining order was dropped.

An even more disturbing incident happened in April 2020: A video went viral that appeared to show Miller choking a woman and throwing her to the ground at a bar in Reykjavik, Iceland, an incident that occurred after Miller was confronted by pushy fans. Miller was escorted out of the venue.

Born in Wyckoff, NJ, Miller’s career began to grow with a turn on Showtime’s Californication and playing a sociopathic murderous teen in the critically acclaimed Lynne Ramsay movie We Need To Talk About Kevin. Other notable credits followed in The Perks of Being a Wallflower and The Stanford Prison Experiment before Miller landed the role of The Flash in Zack Snyder’s Batman v. Superman. Miller, who displayed a sharp energy and humor, reprised in Justice League. Miller also worked with Warner Bros. in the Fantastic Beasts trilogy as Credence Barebone.

Warner Bros has so far declined to comment on Miller or where these mounting incidents will leave the studio and the actor’s future. Deadline has reached out to Miller’s legal reps and will update should they have any statements about the recent restraining orders against the actor.

It’s the DC problem again though that they are too slow. This movie was announced an age ago but that gimmick has already been taken by ‘No Way Home’. This was supposed to be out in 2018, there have been two Spider-Man films released since then. They may have thought of that cinematic multiverse idea first but it holds little credit if you get it out there last.

From Cracked: Good Lord, Recast Ezra Miller Already

The article did touch on something I forgot about: Merchandising.

We’re not just talking about the film itself, think of all the ancillary marketing tie-ins that come with your average superhero blockbuster? Are they really going to stick Miller’s face on cereal boxes and cologne bottles at this point?

Yeah, that is going to cost them a lot. I’m sure marketing and merchandising partners are having their lawyers review their contracts with a fine tooth comb to see how they can get out of this, or even pressure WB to make changes. That could be a potentially huge revenue stream that has now been damned up.

    They are fuuuuuucked

1 user thanked author for this post.
  • #94694

Jesus, they really need to get this thing out as fast as possible.

I imagine recasting is just too expensive – I mean, you’d have to reshoot the whole movie.

Except if… can you just deepfake him? That would suddenly give them options. Reshoot the dialogue-heavy stuff, deepfake the big action scenes that’d be too expensive too reshoot.

We’re not just talking about the film itself, think of all the ancillary marketing tie-ins that come with your average superhero blockbuster? Are they really going to stick Miller’s face on cereal boxes and cologne bottles at this point?

That part isn’t so hard though. Just go retro with it and do it all in a comics kind of style, and make sure the face kinda looks like him but also not. Shouldn’t be too hard.

Now Emma Watson is being criticized over her friendship with Ezra
    yet slamming JK Rowling:

Do you really care about this shit? And if so, WHY?! Seriously, what is the point of reporting about Emma Watson and/or JK Rowling in a thread about DC movies and television? It’s one thing to talk about the impact that Ezra Miller’s behavior might have on the supposed-to-be-upcoming film; but let’s not turn this into the fucking National Enquirer or the Daily Mirror. Please.

I get it… “Gossip” wasn’t exactly my intent though.

We did talk in the forum about Rowling,
“cancel” culture online, double standards being exposed, etc.

Next time, in a more “appropriate” thread.

Apparently, there’s a fan movement to have Elliot Page replace Ezra Miller as the Flash.

But Flash isn’t trans, why not give the role to a cis-male instead?

    Because that would be sensible.
