I loved his works, i’m always loved his Planetary and Nextwave, and Warren Ellis is [and still] one of my top favorite writers since i was a kid. (I was even excited when he’s going to write the evil Bat-T-Rex) I honestly don’t know what to say after i’m hearing this, other than, i’m really disappointed in Warren.

I won’t acting like i’m surprised that some others does that, but i felt like at this point i shouldn’t trust any my favorite creators who sames to be nice people may have dark secrets, no matter who they are.

I think i may change my avatar John Lynch from the Wild Storm since he re-created an incarnation of Jim Lee’s old character. I don’t know, i’ll think about it.

I sew people on Twitter out of nowhere taking a piss at Mark Millar’s works in the past , it’s nothing wrong you dislike his stuff, but sometimes people can be overreacting.

(I showed this pic because recently the same guy blocked me after i pointed it out that Joe Kelly didn’t create Deadpool  )

I’ve seen this before, but I had forgotten how amazing that guy is. I wish I knew him. He’s like a comic book character.

I’d love to know more about this real-life comic book villain one day.

Diamond Comic Distributors ceases receiving products for distribution Due to Coronavirus (x)

Diamond’s founder Steve Geppi has issued an official statement confirming and explaining the decision to cease receiving new product from printers for distribution starting in April, and outlining the current timeframe for its change in operation.

    Here’s Geppi’s full statement:

    CORONAVIRUS EFFECTS ON DISTRIBUTION

As everyone knows, the world faces ever-increasing challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Its effects on the comics & collectibles and tabletop gaming industries have been felt far and wide. We are hearing from thousands of retailers that they can no longer service their customers as they have in the past, many of them forced to close by government action or resort to in-person or curbside delivery. Even those still open are seeing reduced foot traffic in most cases, a situation that seems likely to worsen with time.

Our publishing partners are also faced with numerous issues in their supply chain, working with creators, printers, and increasing uncertainty when it comes to the production and delivery of products for us to distribute. Our freight networks are feeling the strain and are already experiencing delays, while our distribution centers in New York, California, and Pennsylvania were all closed late last week. Our own home office in Maryland instituted a work from home policy, and experts say that we can expect further closures. Therefore, my only logical conclusion is to cease the distribution of new weekly product until there is greater clarity on the progress made toward stemming the spread of this disease.

    EFFECTS ON DIAMOND COMIC DISTRIBUTORS

Product distributed by Diamond and slated for an on-sale date of April 1st or later will not be shipped to retailers until further notice. For the time being, however, we have been able to develop procedures with our teams at the distribution center in Olive Branch, MS to safely continue fulfillment of direct ship reorders for the retailers who are able to receive new product and need it to service their customers. It’s unlikely that orders will be filled on the same day they are placed, and these plans are subject to change if at any point we no longer feel that we can safeguard our teams while fulfilling orders.

Product distributed by Diamond UK and slated for an on-sale date of March 25th or later will not be shipped to retailers until further notice. Further updates with regard to reorders and other Diamond UK-specific information will be communicated directly to their customers as information becomes available.

    EFFECTS ON ALLIANCE GAME DISTRIBUTORS

Product distributed by Alliance has been shipping from our Fort Wayne, IN and Austin, TX warehouses. Both are closing at the end of the day on Tuesday, March 24th, in the interest of employee safety and to comply with direction from local governments. Any orders not shipped by that time will not be processed until further notice. Your dedicated sales team will still be working remotely and will help you with any orders you’d like to place today or questions you may have.

    OUR SHARED PATH FORWARD

With these changes in our distribution strategy, we will work with our publishing partners to develop programs that will address product already in the pipeline and what will happen when we resume distribution. We know that during this time you will face many challenges, and we will direct our energies toward addressing them, rather than fighting on increasingly numerous fronts to get product out.

For those retailers who remain open in various forms, I encourage you let loose your own creativity. For the time being, you will be able to replenish your perennials from Diamond and/or Alliance, but you should also remember the stock you already have in your stores. If your doors remain open, it’s likely you will have customers who will continue to seek diversion from events of the world. Special sales, promotions, and even eBay can help you bring in cash during this trying time. Product for which you’ve already paid may well hold some of your answers. There have been many solid suggestions offered about how to help our retailers, and we will bring many of them together in future communications.

Besides the industry’s most immediate needs, we have been and will continue looking toward the future, when we see stores reopening, bringing staff back onboard, and getting customers in the door. We are looking at issues like debt accrued due to this crisis, what reduced ordering means for your discount tiers, and the availability of credit to help stores through and after this difficult time. We don’t have all those answers today, but we understand the many issues you are facing and look forward to addressing them as partners who all have an interest in the long-term health of the industry we love so much.

As I mentioned in my last update, this industry has been one of the greatest joys of my life, from my days as a collector to a retailer to today. I and my Leadership Team have made these decisions knowing full-well the effect they will have on all of you, as well as our publishing partners and our own team members around the world. At the end of the day, the safety and security of our teams and yours, along with the many customers we all serve, is paramount. I again thank you for your ongoing patience and support.

    Thank You,

    Steve Geppi

    https://wegotthiscovered.com/movies/marvel-studios-reportedly-shuts-production-indefinitely/

I don’t like MCU and none of them are good movies (except first Iron Man and Cap 2), but i don’t think they’re “officially shutting down”, it’s more like they’re in the pause to keep all the cast and crew safety from the coronavirus outbreak, not just for Marvel Studios, especially everyone at production companies, they have to deal with the productions and delays later once coronavirus is over (hopefully).

Even if the article is full of crap, healthy first before entertainment.

I don’t normally post my thoughts on this topic, i sew Superman: Red Son animated film and it was okay, but i don’t think it’s the perfect adaption of the comic.

The plot was rushing and the changes are very unnecessary, i felt like the group who worked on this film are just made out of their own imaginary and doesn’t bother to look at the pages from the comics to understand the point of story and why some readers’ favorite Superman story are Superman: Red Son, the things i like about it was art style, good animation and a decent voice-acting cast. Overall, it wasn’t the best, but i enjoyed it

If you’re Mark Millar fan, you’ll probably dislike the film. or to those aren’t Mark Millar fan, you’ll probably like it.

Steven Spielberg no longer to direct Indiana Jones 5, James Mangold takes over his chair (x)

After a long development process, Steven Spielberg is handing the directing reins on Indiana Jones 5 to another filmmaker for the first time in the franchise’s 39-year history.

Spielberg will remain as a hands-on producer on Indiana Jones. According to a source close to the filmmaker, the decision to leave the director’s chair was entirely Spielberg’s, in a desire to pass along Indy’s whip to a new generation to bring their perspective to the story.

With a new director coming on board, the possibility that Indiana Jones. will be pushed once more from its 2021 release date seems likely. Spokespeople for Spielberg and Disney declined to comment.

I feel like at this point i won’t see another Indiana Jones, the fourth film is closest thing that had true happy ending to close the franchise, plus Harrison Ford is getting older, what else needs to be told? (asides Indy’s unlikeable son)

Chapek is a 27-year veteran of the House of Mouse, working the past few years as Chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products. Chapek’s CEO duties are described as overseeing “all of the Company’s business segments and corporate functions.” Chapek will report to Iger and the Board of Directors.

Disney to re-rebooting 20th Century Fox’s Planet of the Apes series (x)

Disney/Fox planning on reboot the franchise and Wes Ball will write and direct the new Planet of the Apes with Daniel Dorrance, David Starke and Joe Hartwick Jr set to produce the film.

Sources say that the reboot film will be unlikely connected to the previous Planet of the Apes trilogy (2011 – 2017) that was done under 20th Century Fox. DiscussingFilm’s prediction is it will reboot the original 1968 Planet of the Apes film based on a novel by Pierre Boulle. The film is targeting to begin filming later this year, which likely will mean a 2022 release date.

No thanks, the previous three PoTA reboot films were so perfect that no need necessarily to push the reset button the entire trilogy, but in Disney’s (and in case Fox’s) mind, they had to make some extra $$$.

Okay the good news is that reporter is a full of crap, the franchise will indeed continue set after the events of War for the Planet of the Apes following “Caesar’s legacy”.

Since the show is still in development, it’s unknown how many episodes Waititi would direct. Taika will also co-write the show with Peter Warren.

Showtime had no comment on the project. Eric Gitter of Closed on Mondays is also and EP on the project. The show is from endeavor content and legendary entertainment and is based on the One Press graphic novel series by James Callahan and Rick spears.

The Auteur is followed a producer named Nathan T. Rex whose career spirals downhill as he attempts to resurrect his career by enlisting the aid of serial-killer-turned-murder-consultant Darwin, his assistant Igor, narcotics from Doctor Love and the lovely actress Coconut. T. Rex will do anything to keep his career from imploding, which is bad news for everyone.

The Iron Mask | Official Trailer | Signature Entertainment

The Iron Mask sees action legends Jackie Chan and Arnold Schwarzenegger team up in a high concept fantasyhistorical epic featuring breath-taking fights and stunning visuals. Set in the 18th century, The Iron Mask follows English traveller Jonathan Green as he journeys from Russia to China encountering dragons, black magic wizardry and a dragon king during an incredible but deadly adventure. The action adventure also stars Charles Dance, Jason Flemyng and Rutger Hauer.

Signature Entertainment presents The Iron Mask at UK Cinemas and on Digital 10th April, 2020

Not really great trailer, but i might go to see it only because Jackie Chan and Arnold Schwarzenegger are together in the screen. (they’ve been met before in Around the World in 80 Days tho), it’ll be turn out to be bad film, but i’d have fun with it.

Clue reboot with Ryan Reynolds gets The Muppets director (x)

The Muppets filmmaker James Bobin is now in talks to direct 20th Century Fox’s Clue remake starring Ryan Reynolds, reports Variety. Bobin also directed the underappreciated and excellent live-action Dora and the Lost City of Gold for Paramount Pictures.

Jason Bateman had been previously attached to helm the murder mystery, but departed the project due to scheduling conflicts with Netflix’s Ozark.

The writing team behind Zombieland and Deadpool Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick penned the script. They teased the potential of the film being R-rated.

The cast has not been set, but 20th Century Fox aiming for high-profile talent to join Reynolds, adds the site.

The original 1985 movie, based on the Hasbro board game, followed six guests who are anonymously invited to a strange mansion. After the host is killed, the visitors must cooperate with the staff to identify the murderer as bodies pile up. The cast included Christopher Lloyd, Madeline Khan, Michael McKean and Eileen Brennan.

Reynolds’ Maximum Effort is developing and producing the pic with Allspark Pictures, the film division of Hasbro.

The Goonies re-enactment drama nabs Fox pilot pickup (x)

Fox Television (not to be confused with 20th Century Fox Television) has begun development on a Goonies semi-reboot TV pilot revolving around a troubled teacher who attempts to create a shot-for-shot remake of the cult 1985 film alongside three students.

Sarah Watson will pen the script for the project, which hails from Warner Bros. TV, Fox’s content accelerator SideCar and Amblin TV.

Greg Mottola (Superbad, HBO’s The Newsroom) will executive produce and direct the pilot. SideCar’s Gail Berman will also exec produce alongside Lauren Shuler Donner, Richard Donner and Amblin’s Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank

    Here’s the official description:

“After failing to make it in New York and carrying a heavy secret with her, Stella Cooper returns to her distressed automotive hometown to substitute teach. She finds inspiration, hope and ultimately salvation when she agrees to help three students who are pursuing their filmmaking dreams by putting on an impossibly ambitious shot-for-shot remake of one of their favorite movies — The Goonies. Over the course of the season of the potential series, their passion will inspire a town in desperate need of hope in this love letter to the power of cinema, storytelling and dreams.”

The Hunt | Official Trailer | Universal Pictures

The most talked about movie of the year is the one nobody has seen … yet.

Twelve strangers wake up in a clearing. They don’t know where they are, or how they got there. They don’t know they’ve been chosen… for a very specific purpose … The Hunt. In the shadow of a dark internet conspiracy theory, a group of elites gathers for the very first time at a remote Manor House to hunt ordinary Americans for sport. But the elites’ master plan is about to be derailed because one of The Hunted, Crystal (Betty Gilpin, GLOW), knows The Hunters’ game better than they do. She turns the tables on the killers, picking them off, one by one, as she makes her way toward the mysterious woman (two-time Oscar® winner Hilary Swank) at the center of it all.

From Jason Blum, the producer of Get Out and The Purge series, and Damon Lindelof, creator of the HBO series Watchmen and co-creator of the TV series Lost, comes a timely and provocative new satirical thriller that has already ignited a national conversation. Now, it’s time to decide for yourself.  Written by Lindelof and his fellow Watchmen collaborator Nick Cuse and is directed by Craig Zobel (Z for Zachariah, The Leftovers). Blum produces for his Blumhouse Productions alongside Lindelof. The film is executive produced by Zobel, Cuse and Steven R. Molen.

    In Theaters March 13

Gail Simone (2003 Birds of Prey writer) giving her thoughts on Margot Robbie’s Birds of Prey [a long-long-long threat on her Twitter]

Okay, I want to have a talk about one aspect of the WB’s Birds of Prey movie that I was withholding judgment on, that did bug me. I think it’s pretty obvious I loved it, but I do have a sizable gripe. However, that is only meaningful in a larger context. So mute this, maybe. :)

All right. I am looking at this from an unusual pov. When I wrote BOP, I was so obnoxiously and fiercely protective of the characters that I likely made editors want to look for new careers. I would fight if they were portrayed even REMOTELY off-model, even in major crossovers. And to this day, these characters are so important to me that I buy every action figure, I still have a little warm feeling every time I see even a drawing of any of them.

In that regard, I am a bad potential audience member for a movie that changes everything. And some of the initial stuff I saw did not feel very BOP to me, just like many of you. I have not tagged on people who want it to be comics-accurate. Because I get it, and I have felt that many many times with characters I care about deeply. Someone saying, ‘I want it to be like the comics,’ in a way, that is just saying they loved the stories we all told, from Chuck to Jimmy and Amanda, to me (hopefully). And that is definitely a compliment. So yes, a part of me is that reader, for sure.

I will also say that some of the insider stuff was even further from the finished film, some changes were made to bring it more in line. And some of those were a bit hard for me to take because I felt they were missing some of the power behind the concept. But thankfully, they made those changes and it really shows. Okay, so I get it. It would be lovely to have Barbara, it would be great to have Zinda, all that stuff. But here are some things to consider. And at the end, I will say the one bit that does still feel like a missed opportunity.

Now, here is how I feel about different takes on these characters. This will take a bit. Strap in. :)

When I was a kid, I was a fan of pulp adventure series novels. And there were essentially two kinds…static and open. The static series were essentially the same book over and over…most Avenger novels are basically the same status quo. I loved them, but they were. More interesting to me were things like Conan and Tarzan, that skipped around in the timeline. You had Young Conan and old man King Conan. All valid, all parts of his timeline. You had Jungle Tales of Tarzan, which shows him as a boy, and others where he is a grandfather. This is how I think of most iconic chapters in comics…you go from Wolverine Origin to Old Man Logan, it’s all different points on the timeline, all valid.

You go from Batgirl Year to Oracle. We messed that one up, but you can still place my Batgirl run on the timeline between. MOST of the changes in the movie DON’T clash with the iconic versions, the core characteristics, of these characters. It’s just very early in the timeline, when they are still figuring out who they are. And the end points that they are headed towards something more recognizable. And I am okay with that, I embrace it. Because why? Because I believe the truly great characters are elastic. You can pull them and bend them, you can stretch them. The great ones snap back. We all know what their core is. They snap back. And if you know that, mid you know the comics are always there, then it’s not an abomination when someone stretches them a new way, it’s a journey, it’s a ride, and we all get to have fun watching. I actually love that. I love that there are a hundred versions of Superman. I love that there’s cartoon Batman and Dark Knight Batman. We’re used to that, we are completely accepting. It’s harder when a character, say, Huntress, only has one big screen showing, we want it to be ‘right.’ I didn’t go to the movie expecting my Bop, or Chuck’s Bop, I wanted to see the vision of Cathy, Christina and Margo. You don’t hire an artist and then tell them to do someone else’s greatest hits album. You hire them to bring something to the table.

If you hate that Barbara isn’t in it, and she was never going to be because she’s spoken for elsewhere, would you rather there be no bop film at all? That’s fine, it’s valid. But we would be missing a lot of joy over something the filmmakers couldn’t change. I want the film. My core Canary is not a series of continuity connections, she’s not a roadmap. She’s a force of personality. My question for the film was, does she have heart, does she put others’ safety above herself, does she kick ass and smile after. And the answer is, damn right she does. My feeling is, with Canary and Harley and Huntress, they gave us fresh, updates takes layered on top of EXACTLY what I love in the comics. Is Huntress quirky from years of isolation? Does vengeance leave her empty? Yes. That IS Huntress. Her awkwardly making friends IS Helena. What costume she wears pales in importance in comparison. These are icon characters. We have seen a lot of slavish adaptations fail. I say, give the characters to people with vision and see what comes up. That’s what has made ALL the most memorable films AND comics.

I hear people say, ‘well, that’s not MY Bop’ or ‘that’s not MY Superman,’ and I get it, I think it’s awesome that we all of us care, that we love something so much we feel proprietary. But I wanted to see the characters’ hearts up there, which is their true core. We did. I would say they triumphed in that regard. The complaint that it’s a Harley movie seems weird to me, I do pr think they ever said otherwise. But Margo was incredibly gracious both behind the scene and onscreen giving everyone a chance to shine. And they did. :) so much. Truthfully, I feel a little bad if people won’t go see it because it’s not the comic, exactly. They are missing a ton of fun, and grit, and heart. I get it, I have been that person. But I would rather have something in exact that makes me cheer than something exact that bores. There are different versions of these characters. It’s a good thing.

Then Gail criticizes the portrayal of Cassandra Cain, the second Batgirl

All right, so, to the thing that does stand out, that I wish had gone another way? It’s not Barbara. The Birds of Prey can function with different line-ups. And she was never going to be in this film, it just wasn’t in the cards. It’s Cass.

I have held back commenting on this, mostly, because I wanted to see for myself. But essentially, this Cassandra Cain is a new character. I like her, she’s fun to watch, the actress is adorable (Ella Jay Basco) is great in the role. But she bears no resemblance to Cass. I don’t think of it as an insult so much as a missed opportunity. Like basically all of the Asian martial arts characters of that era at the big two (I do not exclude myself from this at all), there’s stuff in her early stores that reeks of exoticism and more. Fair enough. But she became so much more. She was also one of the first truly successful solo Asian heroes at either company. Her struggles with speech and reading and socialization were hugely meaningful to so many people. I love Cass dearly, and this is not a Cass I recognize. I think it was an easy fix, just give her a different name. It’s possible that they didn’t want another voiceless Asian flawless goddess assassin, and that’s perfectly fair, but it would have been the same movie character if they had names her Nancy Floogenbottom, not Cass. So that was my only major gripe. I love Cass, I think she’s very special and precious as a character. However not everyone writes her well and the first TWO times I wrote her, I messed it up completely (bugs me to this day). Which leads me to my final point…

There’s more she’s posting, but i think it’s the best that you should go read her tweet by yourself  because holy crap that’s a long text.

ViacomCBS plans to launch new streaming service with CBS All Access, Paramount, & Viacom Channels (x)

According to CNBC, CBS and Viacom have officially merged, the company is working on creating a combined product for their streaming products. While it does not appear any decision has been made official, the new streaming service could see combining CBS All Access with content from Paramount Pictures, as well as Viacom owned networks (Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, MTV, BET), and streaming service Pluto TV.

As the parent of Showtime, the report suggests that the streaming service could bundle Showtime for a premium. While it appears that details are still being sorted, it is expected to be less than $10 for the base product, with higher tiers ad-free and with Showtime bundled. Just last week, CBS All Access announced that their latest original Star Trek: Picard help set sign-up records for the streaming service. Prior to that, ViacomCBS Chief Digital Officer-CBS Interactive CEO Marc DeBevoise announced that CBS All Access and Showtime reached a collective 10 million subscribers. He believe the streamers will hit 25 million by 2022, given the 60 percent annual subscriber growth rate.

The big idea behind Bad Idea revealed and how they’re making it just about the comics (x)

A group of former Valiant Comics executives and creators have teamed up to form Bad Idea, a new publisher focused on high-end comic books available through an extremely limited number of stores – 20 to be exact, to start out with.

Bad Idea’s plans are to produce one to two single issue comics per month at a time. At a company-standard price of $3.99, these “pristinely designed, prestige-format packages” will have no variants and no collections. Further to that, Bad Idea does not plan to release any of their comics digitally.

The company will launch with Eniac from writer Matt Kindt and artist Doug Braithwaite in May 2020. The premise hasn’t been revealed.

Though no other titles have been announced, Bad Idea states that it has projects in the works involving creators Mae Catt (Young Justice), Joshua Dysart (Unknown Soldier, Harbinger), Tomas Giorello (X-O Manowar), Lewis LaRosa (Bloodshot Reborn), Adam Pollina (X-Force), Robert Venditti (Justice League), Marguerite Bennett (Batwoman), Eric Heisserer (Bird Box, Arrival), Jody Houser (Harley Quinn & Poison Ivy), Jeff Lemire (Black Hammer, Gideon Falls), Peter Milligan (X-Statix), Zeb Wells (Amazing Spider-Man), and more.

One other title, Megalith, was named with cover art from Lewis LaRosa included in Bad Idea’s announcement , but no official details were included.

Randy Freer, Hulu CEO, exits after more Disney restructuring (x)

Randy Freer is out at Hulu. Freer and Disney announced the once-chief executive officer of the biggest Netflix rival is leaving the company amidst wider restructuring at the House of Mouse. Expected to stay in his current position for a few more weeks to help guide the company through a transition, Hulu executives that once reported to Freer will instead report directly to those who lead Disney’s direct-to-consumer offerings.

That includes direct-to-consumer chairman Kevin Mayer, who some Hollywood insiders suggest could be taking over for Bob Iger upon the chief’s retirement next year. In a statement obtained by THR, Mayer explains the move will help Disney scale up their direct-to-consumer offerings, allowing the same people to run both Hulu and Disney+.

I want to thank Randy for his leadership the last two years as CEO and for his collaboration the past several months to ensure an exceptionally bright future for Hulu,” Mayer says in his statement. “With the successful launch of Disney+, we are now focused on the benefits of scale within and across our portfolio of DTC businesses.”

The executive continues, “Further integrating the immensely talented Hulu team into our organization will allow us to more effectively and efficiently deploy resources, rapidly grow our presence outside the U.S. and continue to relentlessly innovate. There is a tremendous amount of opportunity ahead, and I am confident in our ability to accelerate our positive momentum and better serve consumers.

Freer thanked Disney — in addition to minority shareholders NBCUniversal and Fox — for allowing him to run the proverbial OTT ship for a time. The executive joined Hulu as CEO in 2017 and of late, has been reporting directly to Mayer.

He adds, “I am grateful for my time at Hulu and the opportunity to work and learn with an incredibly talented and dedicated group of people. I also want to thank Kevin and the Walt Disney Company, as well as NBCUniversal and Fox, for providing me the opportunity to lead Hulu during a time of tremendous growth and significant industry transformation. Hulu has established itself as a leading choice for consumers looking for the best TV service available today, and I am confident Hulu will thrive inside Disney under DTCI’s leadership.

We formed @imagecomics 28 years ago today, Feb. 1, 1992. There was 7 of us who had felt that we could create something lasting, something bigger than each of us could achieve on our own. 3 of us had produced sales records that still stand to this day, we own the top 3 best selling comic books of all time. After creating #Deadpool, #Cable, #XForce and so much more @marvel, and doing so with deals that gave me equity for life, I felt that my next endeavors should be completely under my control. Fortunately, my peers in this group felt the same. We stepped out to create artistic freedom, a model of ownership that remains the very best in the business 28 years later. You create it, you own it. This move changed my future, economically, artistically, forever. Image was always intended to be more than a company to me, it was a movement, a kinship, and at this time, it was a brotherhood. It was complete freedom. Bottom right is a gentleman we hired as our marketing manager, the rest of us were called the Image 7 by the press. We’re like comic books greatest band, when we were jamming together, there was nothing better. I love these guys and the cool stuff we made together. Image Comics has been the #2 comics company in its history, it’s been the #3 company as long as I can remember. I was 23 years old and these are my favorite memories of my young career. I’ll share more in a bit but for right now, THANK YOU to every fan that has supported any Image comic book. @toddmcfarlane @jimlee @marc_silvestri @erikjonlarsen @whilceportacio #valentino #robliefeld #youngblood #spawn #savagedragon #shadowhawk #cyberforce #wildcats #imagecomics

Witchblade celebrates 25 Years with anniversary collection

2020 marks the 25th anniversary of the 1995 debut of Witchblade – the long0running character at the core of one of Top Cow’s foremost franchises. And to celebrate, the publisher is putting together a 25th anniversary collection – that even includes portions of spin-off series The Darkness.

25 years of Witchblade is pretty amazing but it never would have been possible without the love and support of her fans!” said co-creator Marc Silvestri in the collection’s announcement. “We at Top Cow are humbled and appreciative beyond words. Let’s do another 25!

The collection, which is taking pre-orders now on Kickstarter, comprises Witchblade #1-19, Darkness #9 & 10, and the Tales of the Witchblade limited series.

The Kickstarter campaign, which will include rewards such as Witchblade t-shirts, totebags, and other merchandise exclusive to the Kickstarter, will be followed by a direct market release. Every hardcover copy of the collection sold through the campaign will be signed by Silvestri.

I remember when Witchblade first launched twenty-five years ago,” added Top Cow President/COO Matt Hawkins. “I was at a rival studio and we were all blown away by the art and story. Many attempted copies, including us, but none really succeeded. Longevity is the testament!

Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions developing new version of ‘The Thing’ that will adapt a long-lost original novel, Frozen Hell(x)

In 1938, acclaimed science fiction author John W. Campbell published the novella Who Goes There?, about a team of scientists in Antarctica who discover and are terrorized by a monstrous, shape-shifting alien entity. The story would later be adapted into John Carpenter’s iconic movie The Thing (following an earlier film adaptation in 1951). The published novella was actually an abridged version of Campbell’s original story, called Frozen Hell, which had to be shortened for publication. The Frozen Hell manuscript remained unknown and unpublished for decades, and it was only recently rediscovered.

Frozen Hell expands the Thing story dramatically, giving vital backstory and context to an already incredible tale.

For those are curious why they had to change the band, from Deadline

from what I understand, legally Disney can still use Fox if they want to in logos, however, the reason for dropping the big name is to avoid confusion with the consumer, especially as the Murdochs keep the Fox name in regards to their big broadcast network and cable and business news cable networks.

I’m assuming that nowadays the word “fox” is a toxic band name because of Fox News still around. Does that also change to the Disney movie The Coyote and the Hound?

I’m really don’t like they change the band name, but understandably so.

On one hand, i’m not a fan of drops “Fox” names, both 20th Century Fox and Fox Searchlight Pictures are like one of the most iconic company names of all time. On another hand, i get that Disney has to change it to avoid confusion with the consumer since the Murdochs keep the “Fox” name for broadcast & news cable networks.

Disney drops Fox name from 20th Century Fox and Fox Searchlight Pictures and rebrands labels as 20th Century Studios and Searchlight Pictures (x)

In a move at once unsurprising and highly symbolic, the Walt Disney Company is dropping the “Fox” brand from the 21st Century Fox assets it acquired last March, Variety has learned. The 20th Century Fox film studio will become 20th Century Studios, and Fox Searchlight Pictures will become simply Searchlight Pictures.

On the TV side, however, no final decisions have been made about adjusting the monikers of production units 20th Century Fox Television and Fox 21 Television Studios. Discussions about a possible name change are underway, but no consensus has emerged, according to a source close to the situation.

Disney has already started the process to phase out the Fox name: Email addresses have changed for Searchlight staffers, with the fox.com address replaced with a searchlightpictures.com address. On the poster for Searchlight’s next film “Downhill,” with Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Will Ferrell, the credits begin with “Searchlight Pictures Presents.” The film will be the first Searchlight release to debut with the new logo. “Call of the Wild,” an upcoming family film, will be released under the 20th Century banner, sans Fox.

Those logos won’t be dramatically altered, just updated. The most notable change is that the word “Fox” has been removed from the logo marks. Otherwise, the signature elements — swirling klieg lights, monolith, triumphal fanfare — will remain the same.

Universal and Warner Bros. to Form DVD Joint Venture as Disc Sales Keep Dwindling (x)

The studios announced that Universal Pictures Home Entertainment and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment entered into a pact to form a new joint venture to distribute DVDs in North America for new releases, library titles and TV content for up to 10 years.

The companies expect the proposed JV to be operational by the first quarter of 2021. The North American joint venture, comprising leadership from both studios, is to be headed by longtime Universal exec Eddie Cunningham (pictured above), who is currently president of Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.

In addition, under a separate agreement, the studios struck license agreements to divvy up DVD distribution in countries outside North America. Under that arrangement, UPHE will handle distribution of Warner Bros.’ DVD home entertainment products in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Japan, expected to go live in the third quarter of 2020. Warner Bros. will assume responsibility for distribution of Universal’s DVD products in the U.K. (including Ireland), Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg, expected to occur in the first quarter of 2021.

Vince Zampella (CEO of Respawn) takes over EA’s DICE LA studio (x)

Vince Zampella, co-founder of Apex Legends and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order developer Respawn Entertainment, will head up EA DICE’s LA-based studio. Under Zampella’s leadership, EA plans to expand the outfit and have it release an “original” game.

Up until now, the LA-based DICE studio has primarily been responsible for providing support for DICE Stockholm, developer of the Battlefield franchise.
