I watched the first episode of Noughts + Crosses and was a bit disappointed. The premise is interesting and holds a lot of potential but the actual execution was quite blunt and clumsy, and it doesn’t actually feel like the show has a huge amount to say.

Also, the leads are not particularly engaging or charismatic, with little chemistry, and the characters are quite thin.

There are some nice smaller observations – like the emojis or the plaster – that are jarring and thought-provoking in a way that the rest of the show isn’t. Maybe it’s just the hype but I was expecting more than what feels like a fairly simplistic teenagers story dressed up for adults.

I really like the first one.  It gets a bit weird after that.  Keanu is the definite draw.

One of my buddies saw the first two and was talking about them with me and another friend.  This guy said he could get John’s motivation in the second film but didn’t understand killing all of those people over a dog in the first.  To which our third friend said, “Oh, Ronnie would totally do that.”

Oh, I don’t have any issue with the motivation. He spells it out pretty clearly at the end, his love for it being a continuation of the love he had for his wife.

It kind of reminds me of Wanted.
