Cobra Kai fans:
The fourth season is said to come in December. Terry Silver, who played Kreese’s old friend from Vietnam is coming back! He was one of the villains from the third movie. (Maybe the season will redeem that movie.) Would be nice if they can shoehorn Hilary Swank and her character but…
I really don’t know how far they can go. Most of the cast are supposed to be high school teens in the 11-12th grades. If they stretch the series it will be:
The College Years
The Wedding Album
The Delivery Room
The Family Album
It needs to end as stretching will outlast the whole premise.
Also…. Daniel is this somewhat rich car dealer, has a dealership, nice family etc. He lets the teenage son of his old High School nemesis move in with the family. Get this: His cute teen daughter and the teen guy both under the same roof. It even got to the point where the two were practicing karate together and had this look at each other, and Daniel still couldn’t tell!!!
And I thought I had blind spots. š
Donāt underestimate the potential of a Cobra Kai Babies spin-off.
LOL
Regarding premises:
Anthony Starr (Homelander on “The Boys”) previously was on this Cinemax show “Banshee”. The show was about him being a career criminal who managed to impersonate a sheriff in this town. It was an entertaining show, but the question was “How long can he keep up this act before he is either exposed/discovered or he does something that raises eyebrows and gives himself away?
The showrunners kept that in mind and limited the series to 4 seasons. Any longer and it would be a ridiculous stretch.
Don’t underestimate the potential of a Cobra Kai Babies spin-off.
I think we can do better than that. Let this be your inspiration:
the question was āHow long can he keep up this act before he is either exposed/discovered or he does something that raises eyebrows and gives himself away? The showrunners kept that in mind and limited the series to 4 seasons. Any longer and it would be a ridiculous stretch.
So he kept up the act for four years and thatĀ wasn’t a stretch? I find keeping up that kind of masquerade for four whole years pretty unbelievable.
Maybe it was a town full of really dumb people. Or maybe nothing exciting ever happened in the town so he never had to give himself away?
So he kept up the act for four years and that wasnāt a stretch?
There were only 3 seasons of Banshee.
Anyone saying otherwise is lying. Season 4 never happened.
Nope.
Just 3 great seasons.

LOL š
I know what you mean.
It was a decent show. Lot of serious and brutal fight scenesā¦ or āfight pornā.
Still, for characters in their mid 30ās they can beat up 3 guyās singlehandedly, have the quickest reflexes, heal faster than Wolverine, and the sharpest shooting with a gun.
Almost every scene was calm and the next second a vicious brawl or big shootout.
A fun show though š

Reed Hastings Says Netflix Is Using āThe Most Advanced Production Technology In The Worldā On German Series ā1899ā – Deadline.com
Netflix CEO Reed Hastings was in Berlin this morning to open the streamerās new DACH Headquarters (Germany, Austria and Switzerland).
Greeting a room of executives and content creators ā including Jantje Friese (Dark, 1899), Anna Winger (Unorthodox), who just signed an overall deal with Netflix, Matthias Schweighƶfer (Army of Thieves), Christian Schwochow (Munich ā The Edge of War) and Edward Berger (All Quiet on the Western Front) ā the Netflix chief talked up the performance of German content on the service to date.
āThe success around the world of German content is really incredible,ā he commented without drawing on specific examples. A VT played before his speech features titles such as Dark, How To Sell Drugs Online (Fast), and historical epic Barbarians.
āProducing content that Germans thrive on and spread around the world is such an opportunity,ā Hasting continued, adding that the international proliferation of local language content continued to be āthe really special thing about Netflixā.
Quizzed about his view on increasing competition in the streaming space, the CEO remained sanguine about other companiesā aggressive moves into the market. āThereās nothing we can do about the competition, it exists, which is great for consumers,ā he said. āAll we can do is make the best series and films we possibly can. Then people can decide how much they want to view.ā
As the market grows and viewers are increasingly spoiled for choice, Hastings said he wasnāt concerned by numbers, despite the company ramping up production in all four corners of the globe. āWeāre not obsessed by volume. Itās who do we want to work with, how do we tell a story?ā He explained. āYou have to provide variety, nobody wants to see the same thing again and again. We want to provide escape, stimulation, something that brightens your day.ā
During todayās event, Netflix confirmed it would invest ā¬500M ($590M) for German-language titles from Germany, Austria and Switzerland between 2021 and 2023. The DACH region counts for close to 11 million of the streamerās global subscriber base. The company has 80 employees in the region.
Also today, Netflix announced new hires, including Katja Hofem, who arrives from Joyn to become Vice President Series DACH from November 1. Inga Leschek joins the team on October 18 as Director, Unscripted & Docs for Netflix DACH, CEE & Russia, she was previously at RTL Studios. In addition, Joe Pawlas will start as Vice President Marketing DACH at Netflix on September 20.
Hastings is in the middle of a European tour, having jetted in from Netflixās Turkish office, before heading off to India next, where the streamer is making a sizable push into a rapidly growing market.
While in Germany, Hastings did take the opportunity to visit the set of one of the streamerās productions, he noted, 1899, the ambitious new project from Dark creators Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese.
As Deadline has covered previously, the show is utilizing a purpose-built virtual production stage that employs state-of-the-art technology to replace the need for green screen. Read more about it in our feature here.
Hastings hailed the show as a new benchmark for series production. āRight now, the most advanced production technology in the world is here [in Berlin for 1899], itās really cutting edge and amazing.ā
So he kept up the act for four years and that wasnāt a stretch? I find keeping up that kind of masquerade for four whole years pretty unbelievable.
Maybe it was a town full of really dumb people. Or maybe nothing exciting ever happened in the town so he never had to give himself away?
It’s a long story, but you got to binge watch Banshee for yourself. On HBO Max IIRC.

Cobra Kai:
The whole Karate Kid franchise also includes a later movie with a young Hilary Swank being trained by Miyagi.
There have been rumors of getting Swank to reprise her character and stop by the Valley to visit or help out Danny, but nothing certain. Her character was mentioned by Danny. He said that they met each other at Miyagi’s funeral.
I don’t know if Hilary would do it. Be nice though.

THE BIGGEST NEWS AND TRAILERS FROM NETFLIXāS TUDUM EVENT – TheVerge.com
Netflix Tudum 2021: All the trailers, news, and release date announcements – Polygon.com
…showing off new footage for Stranger Things season 4, plus new looks at The Sandman, League of Legendsā animated series Arcane, Cowboy Bebop, Bridgerton, and The Witcher. Expected announcements include release dates for new seasons of Tiger King, and Umbrella Academy.
…Ozarkās fourth and final season comes to Netflix in 2022, split into two parts
That Cowboy Bebop trailer looks… weird… somehow… I think it’s the editing, it’s not well made for what they’re going for… like it’s too fluid, it needed more animation-style key-framing cuts or something. I dunno, but something just feels off about it.
Hmmm….
Written by Straczynski, the reboot revolves around John Sheridan (played by Bruce Boxleitner in the original series), an Earthforce officer with a mysterious background, who is assigned to Babylon 5
Maybe it is just me, I thought B5 was an ensemble cast about the stories happening on the station. I’m not sure I am that interested if they focus on Sheridan this time around.
His arrival triggers a destiny beyond anything he could have imagined, as an exploratory Earth company accidentally triggers a conflict with a civilization a million years ahead of us,
The shadows attack because of Sheridan?…
I’d have to see what they do with Sinclair, Ivanova, Garibaldi, Delenn, G’kar, and Londo before I could get excited.

Babylon 5 Creator J. Michael Straczynski Developing Reboot for The CW
Ok…. But I would have preferred it if a real cable channel like HBO took it and gave it the Game of Thrones treatment, budget and all.
This is either going to be glorious, or dogshit. No middle ground.

On the bright side of things, the CW give less of a shit about ratings, especially if a show is doing well critically. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend was one of the lowest rated shows during its run but they won loads of awards so the CW kept it around.
The best part of that article is how it says none of the original cast is involved.
Yes, well, half of them are dead.

Apparently they’re all aware that this was in the works and JMS is gonna try and get everyone who’s still around back for a cameo or a guest spot.
That could be neat.

Considering it’s going to be on The CW, there is a very high probability it will be the latter.
My list of altogether too cute suggestions for cameos:
Bruce Boxlietner as Morgan Clark or Luis Santiago
Claudia Christian as an Earthforce officer or senator who yells at Sheridan via a screen
Bill Mumy as Draal or Dukhat
Peter Jurasik as Emperor Turhan or Prime Minister Malachi
Jason Carter as an entertainer in Downbelow or the Zocalo, putting on scenes from Shakespeare
Pat Tallman as a Psi-cop giving Bester orders
Considering itās going to be on The CW, there is a very high probability it will be the latter.
Although to be fair, the 100 was on the upper tier of CW shit… so there’s a wee chance it won’t be complete shit… wouldn’t bet on it tho.
This is either going to be glorious, or dogshit. No middle ground.
How do you telling continuing story of our original Londo without the original Vir? Or GāKar? How do you tell Sheridanās story without Delenn? Or the story of B5 without Franklin? Garibaldi? Zack?

Koenig has largely retired from acting and is not in great physical shape so I left him off the list, but I’d stump for Kevin Vacit in a flashback to before he left human space at the end of the 22nd century.
‘Law & Order’ Revived By NBC For Season 21 From Dick Wolf & Rick Eid

Finally!
I hope they don’t get too hung up on trying to bring back original cast members for it. It would be fun to De La Garza and Sisto reprise their roles though, given they’re both in FBI at the moment. A cross-over between their two sets of characters would be especially funny.

I got a rush watching the trailer. The GoT “moment” has passed, but it could easily return if the quality of this new series is at least equal to the best of its predecessor.

G4 Sets Date For Return To Linear TV On Verizon Fios, Cox, Xfinity TV & Philo
Reanimated video game culture hub G4 will return to linear TV on November 16, with carriage deals in place on Verizon FiOS, Cox, Xfinity TV and Philo.
In announcing its return, the network also said it will also have a multi-year promotional and commercial partnership with Twitch. It also plans to continue putting out channel-specific content on social media and YouTube.
G4 originally launched in 2002 and was created by former Disney TV exec Charles Hirschhorn, who saw it as a successor to MTV in its ability to tap into youth culture. A number of notable personalities appeared on the network as hosts, among them Olivia Munn, Chris Hardwick, Kevin Pereira and Grace Helbig. G4 went dark in 2014 as its place on the dial was taken over by the Esquire Network, which would prove to be a short-lived branding exercise. Amid a groundswell of enthusiasm on social media, new owner Comcast Spectacor (a Philadephia sports and entertainment outfit backed by Comcast) revealed plans in 2020 for the networkās return.
āSince the initial announcement of G4ās revival at Comic-Con @ Home last year, weāve been in constant dialogue with our audience through the content weāve produced,ā G4 president Russell Arons said in a press release. āWe made a promise to fans that we would build this network with their input and are proud to say that our promise has been kept. At G4, we never stopped playing and canāt wait to have our fans join us in our hilarious and fairly preposterous sandbox on November 16.ā
Josh Cella, Chief Revenue Officer of G4 and Spectacor Gaming, called the network āa pioneer for video games on television for twelve years, long before businesses were focused on gaming. The credibility that comes with that cannot be manufactured.ā
G4 said its programming will be produced and delivered through a āfirst-of-its-kind,ā 24/7 broadcast studio, featuring a collaborative workplace and professional esports and gaming environment. The space is designed by architectural firm Populous, whose credits include projects at Yankee Stadium, Red Bull HQ and Esports Stadium Arlington.
Here are highlights of G4ās programming lineup, with descriptions furnished by the network:
– Attack of the Show!: The original geek culture variety show returns with host Kevin Pereira and a brand new cavalcade of misfits. Irreverent and unscripted, Attack of the Show! is a welcoming place for any fan who wants to spend a couple of hours laughing, watching epic stunts and hilarious sketches, and deep-diving into the latest trends of the internet. From hilarious web videos to memes, to streaming of all types, to celebrity guests, to the weirdest tech, Attack of the Show! is still the show that gets it before it gets out.
– Xplay: Xplay used an extra life! The ultimate video game review show returns as a digital-first content brand that balances an authoritative loudmouth confidence with the absurdity of a public-access comedy sketch show, all while (somehow) maintaining enough credibility to book interviews with top industry luminaries. Xplay is expanding the conversation with insightful and irreverent explorations into every game worth your time: AAA, indie, mobile, VR, retroā¦ itās all on the table. Adam Sessler is back, joined by a group of hilarious experts, to bring a brutally honest voice to the modern gaming scene.
Boosted: Boosted is a weekly esports comedy series for curious gamers and esports fanatics alike. Boosted is that moment in-game when you realize youāre the worst player in the lobby. We want to revel in the entry-level as we approach gaming and esports as interns guided by our executive-level experts. Boosted will cover the latest trends, news, and tournaments in the esports world every week.– Ninja Warrior: The quest to summit Mt. Midoriyama returns as G4 attains the exclusive linear broadcasting rights to SASUKE, better known as Ninja Warrior in the United States, from Tokyo Broadcasting System Television, Inc. (TBS). G4 will air all 167 episodes of the legendary competition series that pits heroic athletes of all types from pro gymnasts, to fishermen, to comedians against a four-stage, formidable, and/or impossible obstacle course. G4 will also present three tournaments never-before-seen in the United States, SASUKE 35, 36, and 37.
– ESL Gaming: G4 has partnered with ESL Gaming, the worldās leading esports and gaming lifestyle company, to produce and broadcast several prime-time esports programs, a first for ESL Gaming in the US and Canada. G4ās exclusive linear broadcast rights make it the premier destination for ESL Pro Tour events including the IEM Katowice 2022.
– Dungeons & Dragons Limited Series: Coming off the immense success of D&D Live 2021 featuring notable celebrities like Jack Black, Tiffany Haddish, Kevin Smith, and DrLupo, G4 will continue its partnership with Wizards of the Coast with an all-new, limited-run series to premiere on G4 this Fall. The series will follow four campaigns with a mix of G4 talent, veteran D&D players, and celebrities for a new generation of D&D fans.
Additional distribution, programming and content partnerships will be announced closer to the network launch.
G4 said its talent roster will include returning hosts Pereira and Adam Sessler; esports personalities Alex āGoldenboyā Mendez, Ovilee May, and Froskurinn; WWE Superstar Xavier Woods, aka Austin Creed; YouTube personalities Kassem G, Jirard āThe Completionistā Khalil, and Gina Darling; Twitch streamers Fiona Nova and Will Neff; and vStreamer CodeMiko.

Most of the chatter Iāve seen online was that the show was okay at best. It is quite rare for an FX series to get canceled after one season. With it being on Hulu, I would think it had a larger potential audience than on the network. It sounds like this just didnāt connect with audiences.
Well, you could see it coming, but still… shame… it’s not a bad show, just maybe a bit too slow with too much focus on certain side-characters.
I actually think it is quite a bad show, in that it totally squanders the potential of the setup and seems to actively avoid wringing drama and interesting characterisation out of the premise when it could. It’s just a very boring, uninspired take on the material.
Not surprised. I barely saw any promotion for it so I just kinda stumbled on to it on Hulu. I’ve only seen a few episodes, but I do think it was too slow and broad. Part of what makes the comic work is that it is more insular with it’s focus on Yorick, 355 and Mann. Yorick feels a bit like an afterthought in the early episodes. And while I can appreciate what they were trying to do, you could tell they were struggling in those first few episodes to find a real voice for the show. That, and as obnoxious as Yorick could be in the comics it’s actually way more unbearable in live action. Oh well.
Well, fuck that.
Even if I could get Starz, Gibson is a dealbreaker.
Fuck him.
It’ll be interesting to see if the actual show has that level of creativity.

There’s a UK bias of course, with loads of British crime shows showing up. I of course have not seen most of these shows (only seen 4 of the top 10) but wife noted some absences – Weeds, True Blood, and Walking Dead among them…
Iām glad to see The Americans made the Top Ten. It is such an excellent series.
It’s tough to choose between them, that’s for sure. On the whole I think BCS is more entertaining than BB and (as the stakes have gradually got higher) equally gripping.
Thereās a UK bias of course, with loads of British crime shows showing up.
Thereās only four.
The dire final season or two of Game of Thrones would automatically disqualify it from top 5 contention for me. Also pleased to see The Americans get such high recognition. It was a brilliant show.
Skimmed the rest of the list and, unsurprisingly, it gets more iffy as it goes on. I’d rank things like Hannibal and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend much higher. And The Expanse isn’t even on the list, but Grey’s Anatomy is top 50? Ew. Still, I always enjoy picking through silly lists like this to kill some time.

One of Alaine’s favourites, she started a rewatch to bring me along and then it was dropped from whichever local streamer had it.
Weāll see how it plays out eventually but Iām actually preferring Better Call Saul to Breaking Bad.
Figures, since they were able to draw on all their collective BB experience when BCS started. It’s a show I enjoyed greatly but just fell away from at some point. I can’t recall which season we got up to.
Thereās only four.
Right you are! I think I assumed some of the Scandinavian ones were British only because I don’t know anything about them, haven o interest, and they get shown on the public broadcasters here, usually the home of loads of BBC and Channel 4 and ITV programming.

Yes, wife had the same views about Hannibal and Crazy ex-girlfriend, 2 of her favourites (and I’ve enjoyed what I’ve seen). With GOT (and True Detective) I think they have deducted points for the latter seasons, and if they could separate them into two unequal halves they’d rank the early half higher and leave the latter half off the list.
I did doubt the line in the AV Club’s write-up about Always Sunny being the longest running live action comedy – but, yeah it’s been renewed for a 15th season.

Rachel Bloom and Aline Brosh McKennaāwhose musical delight Crazy Ex-Girlfriend ranked as one of the best TV series on The CWās roster from 2015 to 2019āhave officially teamed up for a new project at Hulu. Per Deadline, the streamer has greenlit the pairās new show, Badass (And Her Sister), which will star Bloom in a pair of dual roles.
Specifically, Bloom will be playing twin sisters: One a, well, ābadassā superspy, and the other a āpushover.ā When the former gets sick of her life of sexy exciting danger, she decides to bow out of the espionage game and move in with her more milquetoast sister. Do wacky, Chuck-esque hijinks ensue? One can only assume.
If this is even half as good as Crazy Ex-Girlfriend it’ll still be a classic
Itās not a particularly enticing premise, but Iāll give it a go.
Yeah I’ll watch it off the strength of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, for sure.
