Days of Our Lives: Entire Cast Released From Contract — Is the End Nigh?
That article is from November 12 2019.
Well it doesn’t say *how* nigh …
It also doesn’t say JR has to share every story he sees on Yahoo. Does anyone here watch Days of Our Lives? I think I saw a couple of episodes on Sky 30 years ago.

Does this count?
Well, that post works in a rather different context in the new thread.
Channel 4 is aiming to reboot GamesMaster.
https://www.4sales.com/latest/2021-02/news/gamesmaster-returns-seeking-brand-partner
4Studio & E4 are exploring rebooting the cultural phenomenon GamesMaster and are seeking a Brand Partner to help make the idea a reality.
If confirmed, GamesMaster would be a social first show, followed by an E4 TX and All 4 box set. The sponsorship opportunity with E4 combines social, digital and linear TV.The Format
This year, five bold celebrities will embark on a gaming odyssey but only one can go on to become the GamesMaster champion and take home the Golden Joystick.
They’ll undergo challenges, races and fights in virtual battle across all genres of gaming under the watchful eye of the all-knowing GamesMaster.
Each week at least one celeb will be eliminated…Over the three epsisodes, five will become one and the winner will be crowned. They’ll play each other at everything from iconic classics to brand new releases. We’ll also be serving tonnes of extra gaming-themed content to our audiences to keep them coming back for more.
I’m not quite sure what “social first” means (throwing loads of clips on Twitter and TikTok before actually airing the programme?). I’ve already seen various sniffy comments about video games not needing/working on TV and that YouTube already doing everything TV can but better. I’m not sure I agree with that though. I think there’s a space for a video games programme on mainstream TV. There are plenty of people who play games that don’t watch YT content about them, let alone Twitch etc. Anecdotally most of my IRL friends play games to one degree or another, but none of them follow gaming YT channels.
That said, I’m not sure the format described here is necessarily one that’s going to succeed. All depends on the execution, I guess.
As long as Dominik Diamond is still presenting it, I’m in.

Releases First Look At Christopher Meloni As Elliot Stabler
I hate to break to everyone but this guy has been around for 12 years so it is not quite a first look

You’re thinking of Christopher Meloni as Elliot Stabler in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. This is Christopher Meloni as Elliot Stabler in Law & Order: Organized Crime. Completely different!!

Pedro Pascal To Star As Joel In ‘The Last Of Us’ HBO Series Based On Video Game
Not sure he’s right for Joel but it’s interesting casting.
Ah well, good on them for making it last as long as it did. I’m looking forward to watching the current season; haven’t started on it yet.
(I do need something else to fill a sitcom slot… there’s not a lot of funny on Netflix, is there?)
And it’s nice that he ended on the cheapest running gag of the show:
I know some people will be disappointed it’s ending so soon, but honestly, I’m grateful it lasted this long. Title of my sex tape,” he added.

There’s no current season, the show’s been off since last April, and won’t be back until at least September.
I’m glad it lasted as long as it did.

Donald Glover, Phoebe Waller-Bridge Team Up for ‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith’ Series for New Regency, Amazon
That’s great casting, and Mr. & Mrs. Smith is a very sound concept for a series. Bit surprised they describe the movie a “massive hit”, but hey. I’d watch this.
Glover and Waller-Bridge in anything and I’m in.
They are really big pals in real life, there’s a lot of videos of them larking around promoting Solo and he did the tribute to her at the BAFTA awards.
What the fuck is he wearing??
Okay, neat idea. I like it.
They seem to be sticking very close to the comic so far, including all the blood/gore. I hope they change some things as it goes, just so that there’s some surprises.
The Knick…
Banshee…
Yeah!

Yeah!
The Knick is a brilliant series. I highly recommend it.

I think I’ll both of them a look this time around.
The Simpsons: Kevin Michael Richardson replaces Harry Shearer as Dr Hibbert
Be interesting to see how close the new voice actors are to the originals.
Can you live up to the legacy of the world’s first generation of superheroes? From Mark Millar, the mind behind KICK-ASS and Kingsman, comes Jupiter’s Legacy, streaming only on Netflix on May 7, 2021.
I hope the actual promotion for the show remembers that Frank Quitely exists (Wilfredo Torres too), considering the art is by far the biggest reason to the comic works.

While this is nice and Millar has shown to be good in his treatment of his artists, the artists are not doing much for the series. Frank is not creating Utopian, Josh Duhamel is. Of course the crew on the movie will try to make Josh to look as much as possible like Frank’s art, but the script will be more important to the success of the show.
Nice to see them starting to beat the drum. Hope there’s a proper trailer coming soon.
I don’t that it’s that similar to The Boys. I’d say the JupLeg is very different in tone.

If you’re hoping “JupLeg” is going to catch on like “The Hex” did, you’re going to be disappointed.
Although, if by “different in tone” you meant “worse in every way” we are in agreement on that at least.
If you’re hoping “JupLeg” is going to catch on like “The Hex” did, you’re going to be disappointed.
Booh! Booh!
And I don’t know about every way where the comic is concerned, but the TV show will have to do a lot to be better than the Boys one.
If Netflix does find that Jupiter’s Legacy is overshadowed by The Boys, then they only have themselves to blame for taking so long to get it made.
The Amazon deal with Ennis for The Boys was announced after the Millar/Netflix deal, but in that three-and-half years Amazon have managed to make and release two full seasons of The Boys with a third on the way, and Netflix are still yet to release their first season.
Have they had enough material to make a mini-series? I know Quitely worked on the first series… is he still the artist?
I think I read the first couple of issues but it just seemed like the usual Millar stuff to me, which I have zero interest in. And even Quitely’s artwork isn’t worth the wait these days – I seem to recall from the little I saw that his linework was completely swamped by some ugly, heavy-handed colouring.
Quitely did the two present-day volumes and then other artists worked on the Jupiter’s Circle prequel.
I didn’t think the story was amazing but I loved Quitely’s art. I don’t remember the colouring problems you mention but panels like this stick in my memory.
That’s better than what I saw of it, which was admittedly only the first couple of issues. I just remember a panel with a purple cloudy sky, and you could hardly make out any of the noodly detail that Quitely puts in.
Kelsey Grammer to return as Frasier in reboot of hit comedy
Interesting. I loved Frasier so I hope the writing is sharp and they’re able to capture something of the show’s glory years.
I would think that for any revival of Frasier to work, it needs to recreate the intergenerational/cultural clash it had between Frasier and Martin. Given John Mahoney’s passed away, the obvious solution is to have Frasier as the grouchy old man baffled by the lifestyle and interests of either Freddie (who’d be in his 30s now) or maybe Niles and Daphne’s kid, who’d be about 18 now. But I’m not sure “grumpy old man moans about Millennials/Gen Z” is that novel a concept, frankly.

To be fair, that sounds like the last 20-odd years of Kelsey Grammar’s life anyway
Yeah, I did think that Frasier was essentially in the Martin role now.
Hopefully they won’t be as obvious as that. For me, the most interesting stuff in Frasier wasn’t so much the inter-generational aspects as the exploration of the US class system, which is something I think is still perfectly possible even with Grammer being so much older.
That, and the perfectly constructed farces. And Roz, who I always had a bit of a crush on.
Be interesting to hear more about the reboot anyway. I wonder if Jane Leeves or David Hyde Pierce will be involved.
Also, there’s no justice if they don’t call this revival Frasier: Forever Jung.

If they’re staying true to the ending of the previous run, he’ll be in Chicago with Laura Linney. Unless that didn’t work long term, I guess. But having him move back to Seattle would sort of undermine the ending the show had of accepting change and moving on etc (at least as I remember it – it’s been a while).
I only vaguely remember the ending, but either way I think a change of scene would work well to mark a break and differentiate this show from Frasier, just like Frasier did from Cheers.
Well this was unexpected.
EXCLUSIVE: Lady Jaye, the undercover operative in the G.I. Joe universe, is getting the small screen treatment.
Deadline understands that a live-action TV series about the character, who was portrayed by Adrianne Palicki in the 2013 feature film G.I. Joe: Retaliation, is in the works at Amazon.
Erik Oleson, the showrunner and executive producer of the upcoming second season of Amazon’s Carnival Row, will create and showrun the series and will exec produce alongside Lorenzo DiBonaventura. It comes from Paramount Television Studios, eOne and Skydance Television. The series will be a standalone story centered around Jaye, which will also connect to the larger G.I. Joe universe.
Oleson’s past credits include head writer and exec producer on Amazon’s The Man in the High Castle as well showrunner and executive producer on the third season of Netflix’s Daredevil. He currently has an overall deal with Amazon Studios and is represented by WME, as well as Jamie Mandelbaum of Jackoway Austen Tyerman Wertheimer Mandelbaum Morris Bernstein Trattner & Klein.
Presumably the “larger GI Joe universe” it’s connecting to is the new Snake Eyes movie and not the previous two Joe movies.
I only vaguely remember the ending, but either way I think a change of scene would work well to mark a break and differentiate this show from Frasier, just like Frasier did from Cheers.
Young Frasier as a prequel show following the petrified lives of Frasier and Niles at their boarding school is a more interesting premise than a reboot. The kids they got to play the younger versions of those characters in the original show were terrific.
The reboot seems like it is doomed to failure unless they somehow get Joe Keenan and Christopher Lloyd back to head up the writing team.
Anyway, Cheers was on the east coast and Frasier was on the west coast, so the third show for the character being set in the midwest would be rather good. I would also be tempted to follow suit from the Cheers-Frasier transition and introduce a brand new supporting cast. The old dynamic is completely gone without Martin (and Eddie) being around and it would be rather sad seeing the rest of the old cast going through the motions but with added wrinkles and grey hairs (if any). Introduce someone new as Freddie, his wife and their kid, who would surely be named Marty (or Eddie). Bring in Niles, Daphne, Roz et al for guest appearances, much like they did with Lilith on the first Frasier show.

Great Scott!!
‘Terminator’ Anime Series Greenlit At Netflix, Mattson Tomlin To Showrun
Could be interesting.
The content to credits ratio of that is even wilder than Wandavision.
Cool looking trailer, though! If I didn’t think the work it’s adapted from was lacklustre I would probably look forward to this. (Only to be up in arms about changes made after seeing it.)
So I’m assuming it’ll be coming out soon, right? Netflix doesn’t tend to do trailers and teasers too far ahead…

The books are alright, but I think the underlying concepts and characters can potentially make for a really great show.
Hm. I hadn’t realised they replaced Steven DeKnight mid-season for “creative differences”. The new showrunner has very solid writing and producing credentials, but it remains to be seen whether he can run a show like this successfully.

I felt like Jupiters Legacy relied on promises that were themselves never fulfilled, although I can’t reliably say that my attitude as such came about from within the pages of the book or from a combination of the book and the hype generated by Millar himself on the old board. It had cool moments, but was ultimately a let-down. (But the art was fantastic.)
However, you’re right about the underlying concepts. I did find Jupiters Circle a far superior read.

Are you suggesting that Millar might have overhyped one of his own books? Outrageous.
BBC Three Returning As Broadcast Channel In January 2022
BBC Three is returning to UK TV screens. The channel is coming back to the air after pivoting to OTT back in 2015, the org confirmed today.
The move has been expected following hits on the platform such as Normal People and Fleabag. The BBC’s Annual Plan 2020/21 published last year outlined research that suggested there was public appetite for the programming to return to linear TV.
The broadcaster has committed to double the investment on BBC Three commissions over the next two years; it makes content aimed at the 16-34 age bracket.
The renewed channel will broadcast 7pm to 4am UK time each day. The BBC also said that its CBBC channel will stop broadcasting at 7pm, and that BBC Three’s programming will be expanded to offer pre-watershed content suitable for the 13+ age range.
Content will continue to be available on iPlayer as per the rest of the BBC channels.
“BBC Three is a BBC success story, backing creativity, new talent and brave ideas has resulted in hit after hit, from Fleabag and Man Like Mobeen, Ru Paul’s Drag Race UK and Jesy Nelson’s Odd One Out, to Normal People and This Country,” said Charlotte Moore, Chief Content Officer. “The BBC needs to back success and make sure its programmes reach as many young people as possible wherever they live in the UK. So regardless of the debates about the past, we want to give BBC Three its own broadcast channel again. It has exciting, ground breaking content that deserves the widest possible audience and using iPlayer alongside a broadcast channel will deliver the most value.”
Ignore… wrong thread.

Will do! Wait… No! I’ve taken the advice from the post I was supposed to ignore! Noooo!

Good! It was an utterly stupid idea to move the channel to a digital ghetto. I used to watch the odd programme on BBC Three and that dropped off immediately as using the iPlayer for original content just never occurs to me (even though I use streaming platforms). It’s been particularly ridiculous with the amount of break-out hits the channel’s had over the last few years. That “BBC Three on One” block they do in the middle of the night some times really doesn’t make-up for the channel being so invisible generally.
Are you suggesting that Millar might have overhyped one of his own books? Outrageous.

Eh, if they moved the character completely away from his stalker/rapey persona and made him consent-seeking romantic, the character could still work.

I’m conflicted. I liked Bennet and Cameron in AoS and I heard that Diablo Cody is writing the show. but………. adult power puff girls?? without actually doing so, I believe that is a NSFW Google search topic so why would it be ok for a tv show.

‘Pose’ Comes To A Close; Creators & Stars Weigh In On Bringing Groundbreaking Drama To An End
Sooo… I just saw this:
I really want to love this, but it’s not off to a great start… I’m hoping things are not as they seem… but we’ll see I guess
Are we allowed to like this now, what with the whole *whispers* Whedon thing..?
It looks super boring… like something we’ve already seen maaaaaaaany times before, at this point. But, it might be that trailer which was super fuckin bad. I guess I’ll give it a try, but mostly because there ain’t much else to watch these days…
A Hitman show is actually a good idea since it lends itself to an episodic nature… kinda crazy they didn’t think about doing that before doing those utterly forgettable movies… I mean, you just need a bald bad-ass actor, sounds like a no-brainer…
I’m looking forward to the Invincible animated series, starting this week, but I just saw from a review that it’s eight hour-long episodes.
I can’t think of any other hour-long animated series, ever, outside of shows where they’ve packaged a bunch of shorter episodes together. Invincible never really struck me as being so much of a drama that half-hour episodes would feel wrong either, even when it was dealing with darker themes it could be fairly light-hearted and comedic.
Are we allowed to like this now, what with the whole *whispers* Whedon thing..?
Whedon is off the show, so yeah, sure. Except if, you know, you’re totally in his corner and want to boycott because he was fired, but I don’t think anyone is doing that.
I’ll watch it. Probably the last bit of content we’ll see from Whedon in a looooong while, so might as well.
