JLA/Transformers by Phil Jimenez and Romulo Fajardo Jr.

Justice League of America/Transformers [unpublished crossover pitch]
Artist by: Phil Jimenez and Romulo Fajardo Jr.

Originally, it was supposed to a pitch by Chris Ryall and Phil Jimenez to DC Comics, a crossover between DC’s world’s greatest super-heroes and Hasbro/IDW’s robots in disguise, but when DC relaunched the New 52 which led to rebooting the entire DC Universe following the conclusion of the Flashpoint storyline, the project was sidelined. Phil credits Chris with the idea of making Optimus Prime a Green Lantern. Also Wonder Woman’s invisible jet would becoming a Transformer.

Spawn/Batman: Inner Demons (2006) by Greg Capullo and Todd McFarlane

Spawn/Batman: Inner Demons [unpublished/cancelled third Batcrossover]
Artist by Creg Capullo (pencils) and Todd McFarlane (inks)

Todd McFarlane has unveiled a glimpse of a planned Spawn/Batman crossover that never saw the light of day. In what the Image Comics co-founder characterizes as “a bit of fate,” the project was to have been drawn by pre-Batman artist and longtime McFarlane collaborator Greg Capullo.

Just like BIGFOOT…here’s that mysterious comic book creature, the Spawn – Batman crossover that NO ONE has EVER SEEN!!!!!

Years ago there was a deal for DC Comics and myself to do a cool Batman/Spawn cross-over book (for those not hip to comic lingo, that’s a book in which both characters are in the same issue). I to to have written and inked it, while a talented penciller, Greg Capullo, was going to draw it. for a variety of reasons (mostly on my shoulders) the book never got off the ground, but a few pages and promo pieces were done for it. Below is one such piece drawn by Greg and inked by myself.

*** This story is different than an earlier version of Spawn/Batman that Frank Miller wrote and I drew. ***

And in a bit of fate: Years later, Mr. Capullo would take over the artistic drawing reins for the caped crusader and he would be the next hot shot artist on DC Comics’ BATMAN comic! Which is usually at the top of the best selling comics each month (ably written by Scott Snyder).

Anyway, I came across this cool cover the other day and thought that it was too good not to share.

Solicitation: It’s been over a decade since their first meeting. The Dark Knight and the even darker one. But this time is perhaps the most dangerous meeting of all. A battle for our heroes’ very souls and sanity. Sure Batman knows how to fight The Joker, Spawn and The Clown, but what if Spawn had to deal with Batman’s legendary nemesis? And for that matter, is Batman really capable of fighting a true demon from hell? Two great heroes must face each other’s greatest villains!
