Victor Gorelick, Editor-in-Chief of Archie Comics, has passed away the age of 78.
He was my hero when I was a child. between Wild Wild West and Black Sheep Squadron he was definitely my favorite actor during that time.
Sad news about the talented Paula Kelly.

Andrew Weatherall, British producer behind Screamadelica, dies aged 56
That was an era-defining sound.
In some time around 1993 or 94 my mate came back from an Erasmus stint in the Netherlands and had upon his person some very high quality skunk. We went to see Andrew Weatherall DJ at Clwb Ifor Bach in Cardiff and as it’s a pretty small venue we sat very near the DJ booth and sparked up a joint (somehow you could get away with that shit in the early 90s, it was really strong smelling stuff too).
My mate suggested passing the joint on to Watherall in the DJ booth but I said there was no point as I’d just read a interview he did where he said he’d gone straight-edge and took no drink or drugs. He said there’s only one way to find out if that’s PR or the truth, handed AW the joint, he took a massive puff and gave us the thumbs up.
As well as being a great producer and responsible for some the best remixes around his own compositions were great too. Smokebelch II remains a staple of ambient nights everywhere decades on.

Huh, not sure why it’s credited Gar’s quoted post to me there.
I’ve long suspected that you and “Gar” are the same person.
There’s no need to insult Gar like that.

That’s what happens when ya cut and paste.
I just heard that Fountain of Wayne’s Adam Schlesinger has died from coronavirus. Just 52.
They were a favourite band of mine, he was a talented songwriter. I know lots of people are dying right now so it feels odd to pick out individuals but this has saddened me.
I only really knew Stacy’s Mom, but it was such a great song. My main exposure to his work was from Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, where he, Jack Dolgen and Rachel Bloom wrote and recorded something like 120 songs in 4 years – but when you look into his career you see how many utter classics he had a hand in writing for movies, TV shows and a vast array of musicians. He was an exceptional talent.
I only really knew Stacy’s Mom, but it was such a great song.
I was a big fan from early on (I remember listening to their first album in the late 90s and loving it) so seeing them get that kind of attention with Stacy’s Mom was weird but fun.
I think it made people think of them as a bit of a novelty act but they have some fantastic, really well-written songs in their catalogue – a mix of power-pop stuff, pastiche (they do a fantastic Oasis pisstake on a couple of songs, like Supercollider) and some really heartfelt and touching stuff too.
Their last album marked a slightly more mature step forward, and although I know they had their issues within the band that made it hard to work together, I always hoped it wouldn’t mark the end for them. But now I guess it does.
This is the last track off that album.
Goodbye, Eddie Large.
Just broke that Bill Withers has died.

For those Stateside like Miqque who may not know Tim Brooke-Taylor he was a contemporary of the Monty Python gang but in a group called The Goodies who did similar type of humour but more family friendly.
He gave Eric Idle his audition into Cambridge Footlights and was one of the writers of the famous ‘4 Yorkshiremen’ sketch. He’s the one of the left:
Gar, I always like to be educated. I was late to Benny Hill and Are You Being Served? – but I got there.

I was in elementary school and would watch Benny Hill with my dad back in the late 1970s. I also discovered Dave Allen back then, too.

Had to look Danny Goldman up on IMDB, as he looked familiar but I couldn’t place him. He is the medical student in Young Frankenstein who gets under Gene Wilder’s skin in an early scene in the film.

Godspeed you magnificent bastard.
I became aware of Brian Dennehy’s talents with his back-to-back performances in Cocoon and Silverado in 1985; I was impressed that the same actor who portrayed a benevolent being in the former could also play a heartless bastard in the latter. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to see him during his Tony-winning run in Death of a Salesman on Broadway 21 years ago, and I cannot imagine another actor as Willy Loman. A magnificent actor, he will be sorely missed. R.I.P.
First Blood!
Hmmm, might be hard to change movie plans tonight, but this deserves a re-watch.
