I really thought Ginger Baker was too stubborn and angry to ever die. RIP
I was just saying how much I liked him last night after watching his most recent appearance (alluded to in that article), and talking to my wife about how good he was in Jackie Brown.

Interesting to see different publications mentioning different roles in their headlines. The BBC have gone with Hitchhiker’s, Metro have mentioned Doctor Who, and the Sun have gone with “the guy who played Kevin the teenager’s dad in Harry Enfield”.
All true, I suppose, but Marvin feels like the standout role for me.
Harold Bloom died.:(
Still heartbroken this morning after learning of the sudden passing of my old friend Ricardo Tercio. With his quirky smile and big heart, you could not help but love the guy. Hard to believe this amazing artist has put his pencil down for the last time. You will be missed, Ric! pic.twitter.com/QOwKXIH2fu

The Portugeuse artist of Marvel’s Spider-Man Fairy Tales and Avengers Fairy Tale, Ricardo Tercio, has passed away.
Robert Evans, the Paramount executive who produced “Chinatown” and “Urban Cowboy,” and whose life became as melodramatic and jaw-dropping as any of his films, died on Saturday night. He was 89.
.
Even though Hollywood history is filled with colorful characters, few can match the tale of Evans, whose life would seem far-fetched if it were fiction. With his matinee-idol looks, but little acting talent, Evans was given starring roles in a few movies and then, with no studio experience, was handed the production reins at Paramount in the 1960s. When he left the exec ranks, his first film as a producer was the classic “Chinatown,” and he followed with other hits, like “Marathon Man” and “Urban Cowboy.” Eventually, his distinctive look and speaking style turned him into a cult figure, and he had the distinction of being the only film executive who starred in his own animated TV series.

Drug dependency and the studios’ changing corporate culture plagued Evans’ later career. When he eventually resurfaced at Paramount in the ’90s, his production track record was mostly undistinguished (“The Saint,” “Sliver”). But by then his larger-than-life persona was already the stuff of Hollywood legend. Evans parodied himself in the film “Burn, Hollywood, Burn” (1998), and Dustin Hoffman, a longtime friend, borrowed liberally from Evans in creating the character of an outrageous producer in the 1997 satire “Wag the Dog,” earning an Oscar nomination in the process.

John Witherspoon Dies: Comedian & ‘Friday’ Star Was 77
Very sad. I have been watching him on the latest season of Black Jesus. He was a very funny and talented man.
A legendary figure here in Ireland.
Not unknown in the UK either. They used to put The Late Late Show on in the afternoons (on ITV I think) which doesn’t really work with the name but I spent a few student afternoons in Mr Byrne’s company back in the 90s. RIP.
Tom Spurgeon died last night, apparently.
Pollard was great in Bonnie and Clyde, but I’ll always remember him for his performance as the leader of the children in the “Miri” episode of the original Star Trek series.
Honestly, though, I had no idea he was still alive.
Howard Cruse passed away:
With sadness I share that my birth father passed this afternoon after a battle with cancer. He is one of the kindest…

Gary Rhodes has died at what feels like a young age.
We’ve known it was coming for a while, but it’s still sad to see him go. Such a great writer.
Two sad losses. Rest In Peace,
Danny Aiello was one of those great character actors whose performance always lifted a film up one notch. Sad to think his light has dimmed.
Twitter: Some random old celebrity is trending.
Also Twitter: OMG is she dead????
(Spoiler: no she’s not.)
Leinil is missing one of his best friends. Gerry was just a kid!
That sucks. Rest in Peace, Ron Nasty.
Syd Mead is gone. :(

He was my second-favourite Gundam designer. sadface
Sad news about Peart. I was never a big fan of Rush, but it was obvious that he was a talented drummer and songwriter.
Honestly, when they started playing Rush songs on the radio this evening, I assumed Geddy Lee had passed. Based on recent images of the band, he seemed the more obvious choice to kick the bucket first.
There have been reports of mass feelings of inadequacy among musicians, as bands currently on tour try to work out a simple Rush song to cover…
Julie Strain, Statuesque Star of B-Movies, Dies at 57
If you click on that article, it now says that Strain is not, in fact, dead:
Malibu Bay Films, which earlier Monday reported the death of actress Julie Strain, is now saying that the B-movie queen is still alive.
“The information we received from a trusted source of the community on the status of [Malibu Bay Films] icon #julie strain was found to be FALSE!” the film company posted on Instagram. “We deeply apologize for needlessly upsetting anyone as well as ourselves! We have asked THR for a retraction as well. Thank you and God Bless Julie & family.”
She’s been very ill for a while, with early onset dementia, possibly caused by a head injury when she was younger.
I follow a lot of B-Movie people on social media and a lot of them knew her.
For those who don’t watch B films, she was also married to Kevin Eastman for ten years and they have a child.
All those Unfinished Tales…
Rest easy Beren and Lúthien et al.
Gondolin has fallen.

Bernard was always a highlight of Yes Minister.
Just saw that. Is that the last Python that it’s ok to like gone then?

Michael Palin seems like a good guy and he’s still alive.
Very sad about Jones.
Michael Palin seems like a good guy and he’s still alive.
I’d forgotten about him.
Michael Palin seems like a good guy
I don’t know, have you seen Brazil?
RIP Terry Jones. I'll never forget him turning up at the launch party for the Letters of Note book in 2013 & then reading aloud this letter about Monty Python & the Holy Grail. I could barely process it. He was the loveliest man. pic.twitter.com/lPF74uPHwQ

Lose “I fart in your general direction”? That’s insane!
Michael Palin seems like a good guy and he’s still alive.
Palin is a national treasure, he’s as universally loved as someone like Tom Hanks.
Cleese and Gilliam have turned into moany old boomers complaining about how it isn’t the 1960s any more.
Idle just seems to be a bit daft and always amused, as he ever was.
(The letter above did seem to work by the way, a quick check on the excellent BBFC website says it was rated A when it came out and of course ‘oral sex’ stayed in)

Just heard about Terry J
It feels strange that a man of so many talents and such endless enthusiasm, should have faded so gently away…
Of his many achievements, for me the greatest gift he gave us all was his direction of 'Life of Brian'. Perfection

I loved him the moment I saw him on stage at the Edinburgh Festival in 1963. So many laughs, moments of total hilarity onstage and off we have all shared with him. It’s too sad if you knew him,but if you didn’t you will always smile at the many wonderfully funny moments he gave us

HE WAS A VERY NAUGHTY BOY!!…and we miss you.
Terry was someone totally consumed with life.. a brilliant, constantly questioning, iconoclastic, righteously argumentative and angry but outrageously funny and generous and kind human being…

Goodnight Terry, rest well. :(
And LeBron James just broke his record.
RIP

As tragic as Kobe’s death is, even more tragic is that his 13-year old daughter also died in the crash. Sympathies to their family.
Yea, she was well known in basketball circles. He would take her to games and practices. Some players put her name next to his on their shoes.
Nicholas Parsons: ‘Broadcasting legend’ dies aged 96 after short illness
A fantastic host.
Ah that’s a shame. I always enjoy Just A Minute and have found it remarkable how sharp he remained despite his age.
Yeah despite him being 96 it’s actually still a surprise because he was razor sharp for that age. He did a Richard Herring podcast show only a few months back and was explaining how ‘Just a Minute’ helped him maintain that because it was quite taxing on the memory to to do the ‘repetition’ bit accurately.
Nicholas Parsons has died – bugger, repetition.
Nicolas Parsons has…. Damn, hesitation.
More seriously, sad news.
They had some people eulogising him on the radio 4 news tonight and they held them to the rules of Just A Minute. It was a nice tribute.
Lose “I fart in your general direction”? That’s insane!
Is it fair to say that the censor who suggested that’s mother was a hamster and father smelt of elderberries?
Interesting factoid about Fred Silverman; the character Freddie Jones from the Scooby-Doo cartoon was named after him. Silverman was responsible for bringing that cartoon to the CBS Saturday morning lineup in 1969, and the rest was history.
Rest In Peace, Mr. Silverman.
This lady could write! One of both my mom’s (who read mystery novels like some eat popcorn) and my favorites.
What a good run. One of my favorites. Kirk Douglas passes at 103.

We all knew that Kirk Douglas’ death was inevitable following all his strokes and other health scares, but that doesn’t diminish my sadness at his passing.
