I remember that the Expanse was the only show that didn’t repeat any of those tropes…

    *cough* Firefly *cough*

(Yeah, yeah, I know, you said tropes plural and Firefly wasn’t hard sci-fi like Expanse is, what with gravity in space ships and whatnot, but still, they were the first show to really do no sound in space, I think.)

Not TV, but I remember being struck when I first saw that in 2001: A Space Odyssey.

The Expanse has always done sound in space.

Holden grabbing that floating gun was the most badass moment we got in science fiction in the last 7 days.

I liked that a lot, really ramped up the stakes which I felt had diminished a bit in the last season. Didn’t see that heel turn coming, I thought the mole was the tall mean looking guard that hung around behind Fred and Jim as the camera gave him a couple of shots looking a bit shady.

Amusingly, he was a character in book 3 who’s role mostly got allocated to Drummer – and he died in that story. This book is Drummer’s first appearance in the novels and she was security chief on Tycho…

Watching s4 last Xmas was great, now? Can’t do that on s5 because it’s not all out.

Most filmed science fiction needs to have some kind of “artificial gravity” in place.

One, in order to portray weightlessness in space, it would cost too much to portray and be a logistical nightmare to actually film. It’s also one of those things, like with Star Trek and Star Wars, how every planet they go to has a perfectly breathable atmosphere and Earth-like gravity.

Two, not having things like “up” and “down” would confuse the fuck out of audiences. This is also the reason that when spaceships interact with each other, they tend to do it face-to-face like they’re either on land or sea, or airplanes.

I don’t remember if artificial gravity was ever mentioned on Firefly, but I sort of assume it is in place when I’m watching it. It’s come up a few times in other franchises like Star Trek and Babylon 5; not sure about Star Wars, but it might have been mentioned somewhere in the novels.

I can appreciate “no sound in space,” but if often feels weird and sort of takes me out of the story to see silent explosions even though I absolutely know better.

Absolutely disagree with this. Watched season 4 in 3 days and it was gone. Weekly is making me slow down and enjoy the show more.

And although we’re not chatting about it I’m still really enjoy it. Can’t wait for  Mad Amos, if they have the budget for a post extinction event wasteland.

About the sound, it doesn’t bother me but the gravity stuff is brilliant and I hope it will influence more Sci-Fi to get creative about it.

    Ha!

That bit was brilliant. Loved seeing Clarrissa’s implants going off from the prepper’s point of view as well.

Wes Chatham was talking about that scene in the aftershow last week, he was intending to strop fully naked and someone (I think it was Ty Franck) convinced him to keep his underwear on. He was worried about which director was going to have the episode because one of the regulars is big into doing a lot of takes to find the best shot in the edit, and if he was directing Chatham would be standing around almost naked in the Canadian winter for a long time. Luckily for him it was a different director who’s very efficient about getting what he wants on set in the minimal amount of time.

They are nailing the Naomi/Marco/Filip relationship, the way they’re portraying Marco’s abusive nature is perfect. Plus I’ve been looking forward to that spacewalk scene for about 4 years and it worked so well!

I’m really annoyed that this show doesn’t feel like it’s being embraced by the Sci-fi crowd. People I know who should be all over it never got into it or couldn’t be bothered which is a shame. This should have been like Battle Star in 2003 but nope.

Another great episode though, agree with everything you guys have said. I wasn’t expecting the Death Blossom to make an appearance on the show though.  :-)

I think the difference is that SF fans are on board with The Expanse, but the general public aren’t the way BSG or Game of Thrones latched on with them

They should’ve done a better job of promoting the show (it would’ve helped if it didn’t originate in the fuckin Syfi channel which usually only has dreck shows)… I mean, it’s every bit as good as GoT, but in the sci-fi genre, the show should’ve been a massive hit…

Can’t believe people are wasting their time with crap like Discovery or the Orville when you have THIS…

I agree it hasn’t had the reach of other shows. In a whatsapp group I’m in they are all sci-fi and fantasy fans but quite a few haven’t watched The Expanse. They have a discussion group for Star Trek Discovery which is an inferior show by some distance.

I think it’s partly its profile but also from their feedback it’s a bit of The Wire syndrome. However much praise The Wire gets a lot of people struggle to get past the first couple of episodes. I’m following the show now on the second attempt as I found it a bit slow and talky to begin with but people kept praising it so I tried again. Avasarela’s scenes at the start are pretty boring albeit necessary to set up the politics, it takes a while t0 realise she’s actually a really great character.

One in the group had just seen the first episode and asked if it got better (I said yes, definitely). Another had seen the first episode and thought it was a Blade Runner rip-off with a detective story on a future city and he stopped there – not knowing the detective stuff goes away quickly enough.

Yes, to chip in from my own personal perspective I have tried the first episode and struggled to get into the show as there wasn’t really enough there to draw me in or make me care about the characters.

I keep meaning to give it another try, as it seems like the kind of thing I would like, but haven’t given it that second chance yet.

  • #50908

It’s very much worth it Dave.

The opening episodes are a lot of universe building and as such I think they lack a quick hook or much dramatic tension to get into the show. In the wider scope of the show they are probably necessary but until the various strands come together it didn’t grab me, hence the second attempt.

They also aren’t very representative of what comes later which is a lot more action and space travel and the characters start to come to life.

    Not surprising, though.

Despite being sort of near-future Game of Thrones, it’s sort of a slow-burner. The early episodes didn’t hit the ground running like Thrones did. There haven’t been any breakout actors like Dinklage, Harington, or Clarke. And I think it’s a tough sell for science fiction fans because, unlike Who, Trek, or Wars, the playing field is much smaller, and the scope that they’re used to for space opera just isn’t there.

I’m currently going through  the animated Clone Wars series, and Star Wars does have artificial gravity on their ships. They’ve lost a it a couple of times, and Anakin even did some lightsabre fighting in zero-g.

What I find strange is how the usual “diversity-oriented media” (to call them something) hasn’t been singing its praises and making a fuss about it… the Expanse is basically Diversity: the show, but done a 100% the right way. But then again, no one is paying much attention to it, sadly…

Well Dominic Tipper stole that episode. I feel that she can be a bit of a weak link but maybe it’s just the patois holding her back.

Apart from that, nothing to exciting but still a great ep. That woman is very stupid to keep winding Drummer up, she’s going to get shot in the face if she’s not careful.

Sorry, getting a little excited. Loads to love in that episode, despite very little screen time, Tipper was amazing again. The story with Amos did a lot of storytelling in very little time and landed it all. I am surprised that they haven’t told Timmy’s story yet, I wonder if they will.

The off screen Peaches murder spree was a fun way to not have to choreograph that fight and still underlined how badass she is.

    Yup, love this show.

Best ignored I think. There’s episodes she’s been in way more, the internet excels at 5 people making a lot of ‘noise’. Objectively we all know the most boring character in the show is Holden.

Loved the latest episode, there are fun little bits like Avasarela’s ‘coup’ lasting 2 minutes because the other guy was shit. Badass Amos and Clarissa too.

Don’t agree with the Naomi hate, but I do wish some of those scenes had moved along a bit quicker, specially so close to the end of the season, because I’m dreading a gigantic cliffhanger and I was hoping the team would be back together by episode 9 so they could kick Inaros’ teeth in by episode 10… which is looking very unlikely at this point.

  • #53100

Well, I for one enjoyed the fuck out of that. Really good. Nail-bitingly tense, and had me cheering too.

Amos made me laugh with his exchange with Holden. Good for him.

Lots of info at the end there. Wow. Only one more season?
Can we get 16 – 20 episodes? Please?

This was a good season. To hell with anyone whining.

    Aw man that sucked =(

Well I guess now we know what’s the danger of that white juice thingie… pfff…

Other than that great episode, great season… They really managed to do a compelling season with probably a low-ish budget, so let’s hope they go the hell all out for season 6.

  • #53137

I love that they kept the cliffhanger from the novel because that scene was creepy as hell in both incarnations. That said, the show played it differently, nothing is given away about Laconia in the chapter. I almost squeed when they showed the orbiting structure though.

I have to say, I’m curious about how much of the end was shot in series 5, like was Cas Anwar written out of the show at that point or did they need to come back later and redo the back half of the episode?

Overall I very much enjoyed this year, it did a very good job of adapting the novel while cutting the fat and also changing stuff up. Some very nice fights to boot

That was fucking outstanding. I was on the edge of my seat for a lot of it. The bit with Naomi being rescued in space was amazing, so tense and so well done.

I’m assuming that’s how he goes in the books? It was a huge bummer… but I kinda liked the how, because it fits very well with the ultra-realistic approach of the show/story.

Oh btw, I forgot to ask the other day… what the fuck was supposed to be going on at the end there, when they crossed that ring and time stopped and things got funky?? I really didn’t understand what that was supposed to be…

  • #53254

I’m assuming that’s how he goes in the books?

He goes because the actor was busted for grooming teenage girls at conventions.

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN SERIES 5 AND NEMESIS GAMES

POV Characters: Holden, Amos, Alex, Naomi, Filip (Prologue), Admiral Sauveterre (Epilogue)

    • Filip is introduced as part of a raid on a shipyard on Callisto in which they steal the stealth coating used on the asteroids, this takes place while the Roci crew are on Ilus, a year prior to the main action of the book.
    • Naomi doesn’t get Filip’s details from Fred, she gets a message from an OPA contact that he’s in trouble.  She arranges to hire a crew for the Roci before she leaves, so Holden has people on-hand in case he needs to fly the ship while she, Amos and Alex are gone.  And nobody, not even Holden knows about Marco and Filip at this point.
    • The setup for the Tycho Station arc is different. When everything kicks off Fred is planning to set up on Medina Station and abandon Tycho, reasoning that it’s going to be the central hub for legitimate OPA activity. Bull isn’t there as he died in book 3, the chief of security is Drummer in her first appearance.  Monica first approaches Holden because ships are going missing after transiting the ring gates, she has footage of one of them flying into the ring and can confirm it never arrived on the other side – but nobody is talking about it.  She wants Holden to use Fred’s sample of the Protomolecule (which was always public knowledge in the books) to try and contact Miller/The Investigator again, but he refuses.  Monica is abducted after Holden, brings Fred, Tycho’s chief engineer and a data specialist into the investigation of the missing ships and discover that a lot of Martian military craft are unaccounted for too.
    • Amos’ arc in the book is pretty much identical to the show.  The only major difference is because Avasarala is still Secretary for Domestic Affairs, they meet on Earth instead of Luna, and she only speaks to him via screen.
    • Alex and Bobbie’s arc is largely the same on Mars, except it’s Bobbie who’s attacked in her apartment instead of Alex, and they’re both injured in the fight.  He meets with Commander Duarte instead of Admiral Sauveterre later, who advises he check in with a logistics officer who turns out to be dead when Alex gets there. He and Bobbie take the Razorback into space to investigate the last whereabouts of a Martian ship near an Asteroid Holden told them about.
    • Once she gets to the Pella, Naomi’s arc is pretty much the same as the books.  The big difference is that Pella, and indeed most of the ships the Free Navy got from Mars are Corvette-class like the Rocinante. It turns out that she’s on one of the ships near the asteroid Alex and Bobbie are going to check out, and she hears Marco give the order to fire on the Razorback.
    • Alex heads towards Luna to try and evade the Free Navy missiles, as a Martian fleet is there, escorting their Prime Minister to a conference with the UN.  He dumps the core to destroy as many missiles as possible and gets close enough to Luna for the Martian PDCs to take the rest out.
    • The Free Navy attack on Tycho is pretty similar in the book – Holden and Fred are ambushed and Fred is shot (but he survives), the station is fired on and damaged by a torpedo, and a second torpedo with the warhead replaced with salvage gear hits Fred’s office, steals the Protomolecule sample and escapes.  Fred hires the Roci to bring him to a conference on Luna with newly-minted Secretary General Avasarala, and the Martian Prime Minister.  Anderson Dawes as reached out to Fred and asked them to form a new OPA faction together.  Contact is lost with Medina Station at this point, implying that Marco has control of it.
    • The Free Navy attacks the Martian fleet, managing to circumvent defences and handily board the flagship.  Bobbie, Alex and the Martian PM escape in the Razorback, with an escort of 100 remote-controlled missiles (similar to the way they were rescued by the Roci in TV series 3)
    • Naomi sends her message to Holden to not power up the Roci during this battle
    • When the Razorback intercepts the Chetzemoka, they’re much more cautious on approach, Naomi still jumps out of the ship and uses hand signals to communicate with Alex and Bobbie, but they use one of the torpedoes to get Bobbie close enough to retrieve Naomi, and then destroy the ship. Alex doesn’t die.
    • The Razorback and Rocinante meet up and head to Earth, where they find Avasarala, Amos and Clarissa.  Amos smuggles Clarissa onto the Roci and talks to Holden about her staying aboard after the fact. Naomi finally opens up to Holden, and he learns that when she and Marco were together, she developed code that was inserted into many ship reactors that allowed them to be overloaded remotely.  Marco used this to destroy a civilian ship following a refusal by the UN to recognise a Jovian moon as an independent Belter homeworld.  This was one of the first major OPA terrorist attacks and she tried to leave him, but couldn’t escape for months after, similar to what she talks about with Filip and Cyn in the show.
    • Naomi looks at the missing ship data and notes that they can most account for the missing Martian military ships as part of the Free Navy, but not the civilian ones that Monica noticed in the first place
    • The book ends with a Martian fleet lead by Admiral Sauveterre heading through the Laconain gate with the blessing of the Free Navy.  Duarte has taken command of much of the remaining Martian navy and is working with Marco, assuring Martian officials that he’s planning to betray Marco later but that’s clearly a lie. Sauveterre’s ship encounters something weird in the liminal space of the gate that seemingly destroys it

Oh… yeah that’ll do it… hum maybe they could’ve recast… or well, I dunno… like I said, it’s kinda cool to also see some (more) consequences of space travel, as I said it fits the tone of the show. Every time they inject that white shit I’m like “oh that can’t be good”… xD

I read one of the showrunners say they decided it was better narratively to kill him off because it added some stakes. They were aware the Roci crew and all the other main characters like Bobbie and Avasarela have faced a lot of near death scrapes since the first season and always manage to escape. (I suppose Miller is the exception).

Yeah I’m fine with it… apparently I’m the only one who wasn’t aware they were writting Alex off the show, so that took me by surprise because of how sudden it was, but yeah, it was for sure the best way to do it. However, it almost seems like they literally photoshopped that last scene onto a static image of him (which obviously works, because space and no gravity)… I’m guessing he had already filmed other non-dead scenes… so yeah, kinda clever (if a bit morbid), now that I know the behind the scenes… xD

  • #53369

Yes I read they had already finished filming season 5 when the scandal came to light and they decided to fire him. I don’t know if they did it that way but it is a way they can just use an existing still shot of him at the controls, add some blood effects and don’t need to invite him back. Then the rest of the cast do a reshot or two where they mention his death.

I’ve seen a few photos now of the reception on Luna and the reunion in the Roci’s airlock with Alex there, so it looks like they did indeed do reshoots.

  • #53386

Yeah well the whole scene did feel retro-fitted and the timing was awfully convenient… specially with hindsight… but eh… if I hadn’t learnt the story behind it I would’ve just chalked it up to a usual plot convenience kind of thing and wouldn’t have thought more of it, so in a sense I guess it worked well enough that at least it didn’t seem super weird, just surprising, in a very GoT fashion…

    ‘K, done.

Ehhh, it was…. all right I suppose.

One problem was I’m not a fan of the ‘let’s split everyone up to have their own story’ move.  I get why it’s done, I just rarely like it.  That said it did give me Amos and Erich, who were a lot of fun in the final episodes.  Also, Amos is always fun –  ‘Stop hitting me!’, ‘do you want to be my friend?’

The other problem was the pacing, it felt more dragged out to fit 10 episodes in a way S4 didn’t.  I also found most of the freighter sequences with Naomi hard to follow and work out what she was doing.  Talking of whom, that little shit Filip has to go! Preferably dying in front of his narcissist shitbag father.

Drummer felt far, far too constrained and held back, even in the finale.  She should have absolutely shot Karal in the head.  S6 really needs to let her off the leash.

I probably would loathed watching this on a weekly basis, but watching it as a block across three days mitigated the bulk of its weaknesses – hopefully S6 concludes this with a bang.  I’m sceptical S4-6 will get anywhere near S1-3 though.  Still, it’s easily the best SF TV going – in episode two, at the end there was this great little background detail of a ship taking off at night.  It’s blink and you miss it but a great way of showing the world.  Noticing the changes on the intro sequence as the series went on was fun too.

The other problem was the pacing, it felt more dragged out to fit 10 episodes in a way S4 didn’t.

It was different to previous seasons which had a relatively self contained vibe, this one had a lot kick off in episode 4 and not a huge amount of it resolved at the end. I’m sure it will be by the end of season 6 but it was a change of approach.

I disagree hugely on Drummer, who is the best character in the show but she is the best because of all the nuances, she can hit omega level ‘badass’ status but she always does it in the context of her other personality traits. She emotionally and physically loved her team, everything she does in this season is a clash between that loyalty and their safety versus her ideals.

Just shooting Karal is bullshit, she wants to but knows it will bring suffering to the ones she loves, which it does, but blind obedience would too. It’s all about a ‘rock and a hard place’ position and not macho posturing. The Drummer sections were the best bits because of that.

It might’ve been more dragged out than s4, yeah, but I still enjoyed it much more… s4 to me was like a “side quest” of sorts that took waaaay too long to get to the ultimate appeal of that whole plot (the connection to the protomolecule)… I didn’t really care about all of the drama with the people on that planet… it felt unimportant, whereas this season felt more important to the overall story.

Book 5 is often viewed by readers as one of the best, and a big part of that is that the novels are written in a tight third-person style like A Song of Ice and Fire, and in books 1-4, Holden was the only member of the Roci crew who got POV chapters. Everyone on the ship was either seen from Holden’s perspective of someone else who spent time with them like Anna, Bobbie or Prax. But because everyone went their separate ways for this book, it meant you got to see the world from Alex, Naomi and Amos’ POVs for the first time. The show did a better job of making the core cast more rounded – partially by adding stuff that came to the fore in the later books and short stories like Naomi’s concerns over abandoning Filip or hints at Amos’ history in Baltimore.

Thinking about it a bit more, I get why Drummer held back, I’d forgotten about Serge earlier – so likely she was going for a prisoner exchange.  Can’t help but feel Karal was such a sicko she would have forced it just to screw Serge, and by extension, Drummer over regardless.

I am intending to get to the books, once the last one is out, hopefully still towards the end of the year.

16 Delightful References and Easter Eggs In ‘The Expanse’

Ty Franck actually talked about the obscure Simpsons references on the show, they had a competition with the fans to find one per series, the winner generally got a collection of the books signed by Franck and Daniel Abraham, and these were incredibly obscure, like in series 4, I think it was they mentioned the name of one of the Brazilian football players from the episode where there’s a riot when the Springfielders got bored watching football.

And one they missed, possibly because it’s in the books and hasn’t showed up in the show yet, but the Martian Congressional Navy has a ship named after Mark Watney, an early pioneer of Martian exploration who’s name might ring a bell if you’ve seen a recent highly regarded movie set on Mars or read the novel of the same name…

Including a brand=new story as well (but possibly not including the one from the RPG, not sure about that). I’m looking forward to it as I’ve not read any of the short fiction, just synopses to see how they tie into the main story.

The Rocinante flies again as Hero Collector’s first spaceship model from ‘The Expanse’ (exclusive) – Space.com

This detailed die-cast Martian warship is now available for pre-order.

Hero Collector’s epic Rocinante spaceship model from “The Expanse” is available for pre-order now.

Here comes the juice! London-based Hero Collector, designers, manufacturers, and publishers of high-end collectibles from across the colorful universe of pop culture is revealing the first entry in its new line of official spaceships from Amazon Prime TV’s “The Expanse.”

The Rocinante, that imposing Martian warship commanded by Captain James Holden and his loyal crew blasts into the marketplace as the initial offering for Hero Collector’s quarterly range of die-cast models recreating ships from the mega-popular sci-fi series — and we’ve got a sneak peek at the bold craft to share!

Based on the best-selling series of military sci-fi novels by James S.A. Corey (Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck), “The Expanse” franchise not only releases “Leviathan Falls,” the ninth and final novel next month, but the TV show’s sixth season (and last?) also arrives on Amazon Prime Dec. 10. If you’re wondering how to watch the show, check out our streaming guide for “The Expanse” on Amazon Prime.

Hero Collector’s The Expanse: Official Ships Collection showcases the most iconic spacefaring vessels from the series as highly detailed, hand-painted models designed using the original CG models. Each ship is securely mounted on a special detachable display stand and fits proudly on any geeky collector’s desk or shelf.

Unveiled here for the first time (and available for pre-order now), the Rocinante is “The Expanse’s” hero ship, a Corvette-class light frigate claimed as salvage and renamed by Captain Holden. This versatile Martian vessel became a familiar home to Holden and his ragtag crew and played a pivotal role in the turbulent events erupting across the Solar system.

This screen-accurate model measures approximately 9 inches long and features details like the ship’s lethal point-defense cannons, torpedo tubes, upper airlock and control thrusters. Expected delivery date is slated for sometime in December.

“At Hero Collector, we’re all fans of the work we do and the projects we take on, but we’re also keen to listen to our fans and create what they’d like to see,” Chris Thompson, Global PR and Brand Manager for Hero Collector, tells Space.com. “Naturally we already loved “The Expanse” (both the books and the show) but it was also one of our most requested new licenses – especially when we saw fans at shows. I still remember numerous requests from NYCC 2019, so to finally unveil this new line of ships for those fans is a real thrill.”

Sci-fi collectors and acolytes of “The Expanse” should stay tuned for more reveals of upcoming ships like The Razorback and UN One, all based on one of the most acclaimed science fiction TV series of the 21st century.

Pre-orders for The Rocinante can be fulfilled direct from Eaglemoss Hero Collector.

It’s not even that long since I reread the books. I don’t know what their up to, but I’m into it :yahoo:

We live in a world that’s fucking terrible but at least we somehow got 6 seasons of the Expanse.

They’re the weird animals on Laconia that rebuild dead people. Presumably that girl is the one who dies and is resurrected in the short story, and they do their thing on you-know-who after they’re shot in the cave

Book 9 has arrived, but have to read the previous 8 first.

If there’s a recommended order to splicing in the novellas, however, might hold until the short story hardback is out next year.

The full chronological order of the novels and short fiction is:

    1. Drive
    2. The Churn
    3. The Butcher of Anderson Station
    4. Leviathan Wakes
    5. The Last Flight of the Cassandra (this takes place during Leviathan Wakes, but it’s not being collected in the short story anthology and is only available in the RPG, so eh)
    6. Caliban’s War.
    7. Abaddon’s Gate
    8. Gods of Risk
    9. Cibola Burn
    10. The Vital Abyss
    11. Nemesis Games
    12. Persepolis Rising
    13. Strange Dogs
    14. Auberon
    15. Tiamat’s Wrath
    16. Leviathan Falls
    17. The Sins of Our Fathers.

Yeah, though Drummer’s arc in series 5 is loosely based on elements from Persepolis Rising. The trailer for series 6 looks to be a very loose adaptation of the rest of Persepolis Rising and Strange Dogs.

I liked this question from the interview. Julie and Miller was such a “holy  bleep” moment. Abraham’s moment is from season 6 so he did not answer.

io9: Including the fans, I’m sure. Looking back, have you had a favorite moment that was brought to life as part of The Expanse series?

Shankar: I keep going back to Julie and Miller. It’s just such a beautiful scene.

Franck: My jokey, half-serious answer is that I just really like anytime Amos gets to shoot somebody or Bobbie gets to beat somebody up. I look for those opportunities. [Laughs]

    When do the episodes drop?
Last season it was Friday 12:01 AM Greenwich time, which is 4:01 PM Thursday for me! Hopefully it stays the same.

Edit: I guess so. It’s available to me when I looked 15 minutes ago. Good!

Edit 2: Am watching now, but the Season 6 link wasn’t working for me. Had to go to season 5 and go through all the episodes until it got to season 6 episode 1
    Just letting you know.

I get the feeling that we’re in mid Game of Thrones territory here, where the show is going to divert more from the books, but the book’s writers are still working on the show so they can at least keep a firm hand on the tiller. The themes set up here match Babylon’s Ashes even if the events don’t.

I very much liked that they did a bit more to setup the exactly how devastated Earth is. A non-book reader friend of mine didn’t realise how bad things were based on the depiction of the rocks falling in series 5. Between that great montage and more elaborate one-takes and more CGI this week it appears the reduced episode count at least allowed them to increase the per-episode budget.

Episode 2 aftershow with Nadine Nichole (Clarissa) and Frankie Adams (Bobbie)

Some great stuntwork this week – loved Bobbie descending into the cargo bay and then the jump to the Azure Dragon, and her snarky attitude with everyone when she comes aboard.

I’m really liking Rosenfeld as a character. She’s quite different to the character in the book even leaving aside the gender swap, and the way she’s able to stand up to Marco without directly telling him he’s full of shit is a good dynamic. Similarly the Golden Bough captain Drummer was talking to was an absolute hoot in a DGAF kinda way.
