The semi-finals are over and the main event is tomorrow night, where so many questions will be answered: Which country has developed the best music during the pandemic? Which has gone stir crazy tried to create its own entirely new genre? Will the UK come last yet again? Will Iceland get the win they clearly deserved last year? Will Israel’s efforts be affected by political fallout (assuming they didn’t get knocked out in the semis already – I don’t watch those)?

So much of this is generic. It’s like those soundtrack albums of music that wasn’t actually in the movie.

I’m getting vibes of that bit in Fire Saga where they had a bunch of Eurovision singers you barely remember at best sing a bit of each of their songs.

Nah it was crap though. A forgettable song, a weak singer, fairly boring staging.

I think for next year we should send whichever notable British musician next gets in legal trouble. No matter what it’s for – tax evasion, assault, murder, treason, whatevs – instead of a fine or prison sentence, they have to do Eurovision. And properly try.

Yeah, splitting out the public vote like this added more excitement to the scores and I like it as a model, but I think the first couple of years they only read out the top 5 or 10 votes individually and the rest just got added in.

Maybe you could have the randos delivering this result and the jury points just dumped out quickly, but I’m not sure how you’d work that beyond having each country’s representative give their own score, which would mean skipping the semi-final losers out.
