So weird that one of the PDD guys is now a featured player, given that’s kinda what they were as PDD anyway and they’ve already got films off the back of it.
John Higgins is leaving the show, so they won’t be doing any shorts anymore. There weren’t many of them last season, so not too surprising. Martin Herlihy is staying on as a writer.
Interesting choice. I would have never considered her for the role.
Game of Thrones’ Sophie Turner Confirmed to Play Lara Croft in Amazon’s Tomb Raider Series
It’s official: Sophie Turner will be the next actress to don Lara Croft’s trademark braid. The Game of Thrones alum is set to play the protagonist in Prime Video‘s forthcoming Tomb Raider series, TVLine has learned, which will begin production Jan. 19, 2026.
“I’m so excited to announce the formidable Sophie Turner as our Lara alongside this phenomenal creative team,” creator, writer, executive producer and co-showrunner Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag) said in a statement. “It’s not very often you get to make a show of this scale with a character you grew up loving. Everyone on board is wildly passionate about Lara and are all as outrageous, brave and hilarious as she is. Get your artifacts out… Croft is coming.”
Prime Video ordered Tomb Raider to series back in May 2024, but there was no word at the time on who might play Lara Croft. Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander previously played the iconic video game character on the big screen, and she was recently voiced by Hayley Atwell (Agent Carter) in Netflix’s animated series Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft.
“I am thrilled beyond measure to be playing Lara Croft,” said Turner. “She’s such an iconic character, who means so much to so many, and I am giving everything I’ve got. They’re massive shoes to fill, following in the steps of Angelina and Alicia with their powerhouse performances, but with Phoebe at the helm, we (and Lara) are all in very safe hands. I can’t wait for you all to see what we have cooking.”
Since her eight-season run as Game of Thrones‘ Sansa Stark concluded in 2019, Turner’s TV credits have included Quibi’s Survive, Max’s The Staircase and, most recently, The CW’s limited series Joan.
Jonathan Van Tulleken is on board as director, with Chad Hodge joining as co-showrunner and executive producer.
I don’t think she’s a great actress and she looks nothing like Lara Croft. But otherwise, perfect choice!

They obviously signed her up based on her stellar performance in X-Men: Dark Phoenix!!
Interesting choice. I would have never considered her for the role.
For good reason. I felt she wasn’t a particularly good Jean Grey, and I absolutely do not believe she has the charisma to carry the lead in a series like this.
But, you know, good luck to them. I didn’t even see the Vikander movie, I’m afraid. That franchise has run its course for me.
Doug Naylor did a Reddit AMA today (to promote a non-Red-Dwarf-related book he has out soon). As part of it he spilled the plot for the new TV special they couldn’t get made, which sounds pretty cool.
Maybe it’ll make it into a novel one day.
Saturday Night Live is ready for Season 51.
Deadline understands that the cast shake-up, which saw four people including Heidi Gardner exit and five people including Please Don’t Destroy’s Ben Marshall join, is now complete, according to industry sources.
The news comes after a big night at the Creative Arts Emmy for the show, and its 50th anniversary special, which won 11 awards.
Che returning answers one of the biggest questions given that he is wont to suggest that he is leaving the show. However, after Colin Jost’s wife Scarlett Johansson confirmed that her husband would be returning for Season 51, Deadline has learned that Che will also be back behind the Weekend Update desk with him.
It means that the cast now consists of 18 people: Michael Che, Mikey Day, Andrew Dismukes, Chloe Fineman, Marcello Hernandez, James Austin Johnson, Colin Jost, Ego Nwodim, Sarah Sherman, Kenan Thompson, and Bowen Yang, existing featured players Ashley Padilla, Jane Wickline and newcomers Ben Marshall, Tommy Brennan, Jeremy Culhane, Kam Patterson and Veronika Slowikowska.
Gardner was the biggest name to depart after having been on the show for eight seasons. She was joined out the door by Michael Longfellow, Devon Walker and Emil Wakim.
There had been suggestions that there would be an exodus this year after the energy of Season 50. The last major exodus was three years ago at the end of Season 47, which saw the exit of eight people including Aidy Bryant, Pete Davidson, Kate McKinnon, Alex Moffat, Kyle Mooney, Chris Redd and Melissa Villasenor as well as featured player Aristotle Athari.
Obviously rumors always abound about long-tenured cast members so it was inevitable that questions were going to be asked about the likes of Che, Ego Nwodim, Chloe Fineman, Mikey Day, Bowen Yang Kenan Thompson, the longest serving cast member, ahead of such a momentous season.
However, that has not materialized and Lorne Michaels now goes into Season 51 with a cast that’s bigger than Season 50.
Season 51 kicks off on October 4.
Charlie Brooker Announces New Crime Thriller Series
The untitled series is set between the fictional northern city of Bleakford and the streets of London, following a tormented detective on a relentless mission to catch a ritualistic serial killer before they run out of victims. The show’s described as a “profoundly serious” crime thriller, which is the first clue that he’s up to something wickedly funny.
Leading the series is a powerhouse trio of British actors: Paddy Considine (House of the Dragon, MobLand), Georgina Campbell (Barbarian, The Watchers), and Lena Headey (Game of Thrones, The Abandons).
Sounds like something in the A Touch of Cloth vein.
The show’s described as a “profoundly serious” crime thriller, which is the first clue that he’s up to something wickedly funny.
I’d have though the first clue was that it’s set in “Bleakford”, but maybe that went over Netflix’s heads.
I’d forgotten about A Touch Of Cloth. I don’t think I ever did see the second (third?) series of that (the one with Karen Gillan).

Yeah, that was the third. I remember very little about the show, other than quite liking it and that it had cameos from several The Bill cast members.
She was one of my favorite performers on the show.
‘SNL’: Ego Nwodim To Leave After Seven Seasons
It turns out the cast shake-up at Saturday Night Live isn’t over. Ego Nwodim has decided to leave the NBC show after seven seasons.
Deadline understands that Nwodim made the decision after Lorne Michaels informed everyone that the cast for Season 51 was set and ready to go ahead of its October 4 return.
“The hardest part of a great party is knowing when to say goodnight. But after seven unforgettable seasons, I have decided to leave SNL. I am immensely grateful to Lorne for the opportunity, to my castmates, the writers, and the crew for their brilliance, support, and friendship. Week after week on that stage taught me more than I could have ever imagined, and I will carry those memories, and that laughter, with me always,” she said.
Nwodim will likely be in demand following her exit; she has increasingly been starring in series such as Peaock’s Poker Face and Mr. Throwback and Netflix film Little Brother, alongside John Cena, Eric André and Michelle Monaghan, in recent years. “Dream come true. I want my other dreams to come true. I want to be in films and I want to do more TV as well,” she told Deadline in 2023.
Nwodim was one of the most senior female cast members on the show and her departure comes after the news that Heidi Gardner, Emil Wakim, Michael Longfellow and Devon Walker were also not returning for Season 51.
Nwodim, a pre-med student who was part of UCB, joined the show in 2018, ahead of Season 44, the sole new face joining that year. She was promoted to repertory player ahead of Season 46.
It’s somewhat of a surprise given that Nwodim has broken out in recent years with a memorable performance as Miss Eggy earlier this year, which saw the audience yell expletives live on television after a call and response segment.
She also went viral with Lisa from Temecula, a lawyer whose predilection for overcooked meat has implications for the stability of her dining environment.
Nwodim, who has also played Dionne Warwick and Edith Puthie on the show, was non-committal when asked earlier this year whether she would return for Season 51.
“We like to keep things mysterious around here. That’s part of the allure of SNL, we don’t know what’s going to happen week to week, let alone in the fall, so who knows,” she told Deadline.
On the other hand, the timing for her departure makes sense, coming off the back of the 50th anniversary of SNL, a major milestone, which she admitted was a “surreal experience”, given the number of SNL legends and A-list guest stars that appeared. Nwodim, who was part of the Domingo vow renewal sketch, said it was a “special honor” to be part of that club.
“At one point, there was an event honoring Lorne [Michaels] between the concert on February 14 and the special and Heidi [Gardner] said to me ‘I thought there were 500 people in this cast and I’m realizing there’s only a hundred-and-something of us ever to be in the cast’. What a special honor to get to be part of that club or family. The 50th felt really nostalgic and beautiful,” she said at a recent FYC event.
Season 51 of SNL will now consist of 17 people after Michaels added Tommy Brennan, Jeremy Culhane, Kam Patterson and Veronika Slowikowska to the cast as well as Please Don’t Destroy’s Ben Marshall.
They join Michael Che, Mikey Day, Andrew Dismukes, Chloe Fineman, Marcello Hernandez, James Austin Johnson, Colin Jost, Sarah Sherman, Kenan Thompson, and Bowen Yang as well as featured players Ashley Padilla and Jane Wickline.
A Surprising Update About An ‘Alien: Earth’ Season 2 – Forbes
I am a bit surprised to be writing this at all, as I figured with Alien: Earth already being the longest Alien project ever, by nature of being a TV show, it was probably just going to exist as a miniseries, no matter what critic and audience reception was (and it’s extremely good, of course). That does not appear to be the case.
It doesn’t seem like the plan was ever for this to be a miniseries, where the idea would be that it now may break out of that because of performance. Creator Noah Hawley is direct in talking about season 2 and if he knows where it might go. Here he is in an interview with Evolution of Horror:
“I do. I do. I mean, I think that I have a destination in mind story-wise, which allows me to know what the story is I’m telling, what it means. And I don’t know how long it takes to get there, but I do have a sense of where we go in success. And you know, the question becomes: how streamlined can we make the process so that you’re not waiting for three, or four, or five years for more?”
This extends back to FX boss John Landgraf who was already talking about this back in 2024, saying that they want Hawley to prioritize the show:
“We’re pretty bullish on Alien: Earth and we’ve told him that assuming, as we hope, Alien: Earth is a returning television series, we want him to focus on at least writing two seasons of it before returning to a possible sixth season of Fargo.”
Sky today announces Force & Majeure, a sharply funny and stylishly escapist new Sky Original series starring Emmy-nominated actor, writer, director and producer Natasha Lyonne (Poker Face, Russian Doll) and Emmy-nominated, BAFTA-winning actor and writer Matt Berry (Toast of London, What We Do in the Shadows). Created by acclaimed comedy writer Tom Scharpling(Monk, What We Do in the Shadows) alongside Berry and Lyonne, the sharply comedic series is written by Scharpling, Iain Morris (The Inbetweeners, Time Bandits) and Cirocco Dunlap (Russian Doll, The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy) and is a retro-infused, playfully irreverent take on the classic TV action-adventure detective genre from Objective Fiction and Animal Pictures.
When British art expert (cum art thief) Thomas Force (Berry) and American mercenary Jennifer Majeure(Lyonne) are recruited by an eccentric, justice-obsessed billionaire Amanda Daventry, they find themselves tasked with defeating the evil plans of international villains operating in the most fabulous locations across Europe.
But as Force & Majeure team up to defeat the forces of evil, they must also work together to escape the clutches of Amanda, who may not be telling them the whole story.
This looks a promisingly daft 80s TV show concept. NBC Universal have the international distribution.
“We’re pretty bullish on Alien: Earth and we’ve told him that assuming, as we hope, Alien: Earth is a returning television series, we want him to focus on at least writing two seasons of it before returning to a possible sixth season of Fargo.”
Oh God, season 2 of Alien:Earth or a sixth season of Fargo. Fuck, I really don’t know what to root for here.
Either way, I hope Hawley has some good performance-enhancing drugs at hand because I need him to be working 24/7 here.

Huh? In the film industry?
I jest, just finished True Romance.

The Great North Cancelled at Fox After 5 Seasons
Sad to see it go. It was a sweet and funny show with a lot of heart. I figured it wasn’t coming back after the fifth season had been burned off during the summer. I think the producers knew they weren’t coming back because the last episode of Season 5 really felt like a series finale. It had a satisfying conclusion but still left the door open for more tales in the future. Goodbye, The Great North, you will be missed.
That is some fantastic character animation on Eve
This Internet Theory of Late Night’s Decline Is the Strongest One Yet
There’s been a lot of hair pulling recently about why late-night programming is struggling. The only one who’s seemed to really crack the code is Gutfeld! That doesn’t really count, though, because it comes on at 10 p.m. and is watched by people who are so fueled by hate they need 24 hours of Fox News programming. Plus, some of that large audience has to be the old people leaving their TV on when they sleep, right?
But, because of the rapid decline in late-night viewership, there are plenty of people who blame the hosts for failing to keep a large audience. Gutfeld’s success and the massive numbers of views on YouTube for Jimmy Fallon, Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel and Seth Meyers suggests that the problem isn’t the hosts themselves.
In a Substack post shared to the r/LateNightTalkShows, the account ThinkingAndData suggested that the real problem with late night has nothing to do with the white men helming the major network shows.
“In the past, late-night was a jack of all trades — comedy routines, sketches, celebrity interviews, music performances — but with the dawn of the internet, it has emerged as a master of none,” the Substack post posits. “This theme has played out twice before, with two major predecessors of late-night: vaudeville and variety shows.”
The article traces how both prior forms of entertainment were killed by new forms of technology. “With vaudeville, it was motion pictures, and with variety shows, it was cable TV. With late-night, it’s playing out over the internet and social media,” the post continues.
This isn’t an entirely new theory, but the response on Reddit shows that it best reflects most late-night fan’s realities. No one is tuning in at 11:30 p.m. to watch Kimmel or Colbert on TV — very few people even pay for cable anymore, especially young people. “I actually watch all the late night on YouTube the following day and I’m 34 years old,” one person on the Reddit post commented. “It’s become a way for me to stay informed without going insane about what’s going on.”
“You NEVER need to watch anything when it ‘airs,’” another person chimed in. “You choose when to watch. And so the communal element and the sense of anticipation is gone from late night and other shows that historically have relied on being fresh with commentary on the day’s or week’s events.”
“‘Did you catch ___ last night?’ has been almost entirely replaced with ‘did you catch that ___ bit on YouTube?’ at this point,” a third Redditor commented.
So, where does this leave late-night programming? YouTube revenue isn’t exactly going to cover the production costs of these massive shows.
The Substack post frames it like this: “The issue with current late-night shows is that they operate on a business model of mass appeal, but today’s attention economy is built on niches. As the economics of late-night become more dire, I expect more of the remaining late-night hosts to either retire, reformat their shows or eventually get kicked out.”
Some on Reddit think it might just be time to scrap this form of entertainment altogether, and invest in whatever comes next. “That 75-year-old format is definitely stale, especially with a middle-of-the-road host,” one person commented. “But yes I agree the main problem is it’s just a weird old from of entertainment from a bygone era.”
If this is what the people active in the r/LateNightTalkShows subreddit are saying, it’s likely an even more grim prognosis from the general public.
And I suspect the decline of online journalism is in part due to “journalists” basing an article on what a couple of dudes on reddit are saying.
And I suspect the decline of online journalism is in part due to “journalists” basing an article on what a couple of dudes on reddit are saying.
Generally I feel that you get the quality of journalism that you pay for. You can find good journalists out there still, but they tend not to be working for free/ad-driven publications, which is what people have been increasingly pushed towards in the past couple of decades. And funnily enough, when your main concern is churning out clickbait content as fast as possible with little regard for quality and accuracy, it does tend to compromise the end product.

I’ve always found late night US TV rather bizarre. A load of shows on every channel, doing the same thing at the same time to ever decreasing results. They all have the same stage dressing of a city skyline, regardless of where they record. They all sit on the same side with a desk, with a house band and a monologue etc etc.
You can’t discuss the new media intrusions without facing the fact that the beloved Letterman got lower ratings in actual numbers than a Sunday farming show on BBC1.
Pluribus starts Friday November 7th on Apple TV.
Vince Gilligan Was Tired of Writing Bad Guys After Seeing People “Taking Their Cues” From Walter White. So He Created ‘Pluribus’ – Hollywood Reporter
The ‘Breaking Bad’ and ‘Better Call Saul’ creator reunites with Rhea Seehorn for their Apple TV series about an unlikely hero.
At the Writers Guild Awards earlier this year, Vince Gilligan made waves when he proposed to the room that they focus on writing stories about heroes over villains, as bad guys “have become aspirational” in the current political climate.
He seems to have taken his own advice with Pluribus, his new highly secretive Apple TV series that stars Rhea Seehorn as Carol Sturka, the only person immune to an unexplained virus that transforms the rest of the world into happy citizens.
“I was getting a little weary of writing bad guys — I was looking around at the world and it just feels like a lot of people, not naming any names, but a lot of people seem to publicly take a lot of delight in taking the way they behave in life, taking their cues from people like Tony Soprano and Michael Corleone and Walter White, even,” the Breaking Bad creator told The Hollywood Reporter at the show‘s L.A. premiere on Tuesday. “I can’t speak for those other show and movie creators but for me, Walter White was always meant to be a cautionary tale; he’s not aspirational. I would never tell any other writer what they should be writing and there’s a lot of good bad guys left to write and I’m sure there will be a lot of great ones created from here on into eternity, but I figure for me I was ready to write something a little different.”
After working together for years on Better Call Saul, Gilligan wrote the role specifically for Seehorn; she said when he first told her about the new project, “I started crying because he said, ‘I wrote something for you’ and then he was like, ‘I’m not ready to give you the script and I don’t want to pitch it’ and I was like ‘That’s fine, just yes.’ He was like, ‘No you can think about it’ and I was like, ‘That’s fine, just yes.’”
The star gushed she had “never read anything like it, which is also exciting because there’s 500 shows on the air so how is that possible that this is original and new?” as Gilligan plays with genres of horror and sci-fi along with comedic tones. “I was like even if I wasn’t in this, I would want to watch this because what a rollercoaster ride,” she added.
Better Call Saul alum Bob Odenkirk, Carol Burnett, Patrick Fabian and Michael Mando were all on hand to support the pair at the premiere, as Seehorn said that as she embarks on this show without Odenkirk, outside of her family and her team, “I don’t think there’s anybody that roots for me more. [Odenkirk] could not be happier for me.”
Pluribus, which also stars Karolina Wydra, Carlos Manuel Vesga and Samba Schutte, starts streaming Friday on Apple TV.

Yeah, Pluribus looks fucking awesome. Central concept seems to be the world after a bodynatchers-like event, but one person (some people?) are immune. And the bodysnatcher community mind is actually maybe really pretty nice?
Anyway, it looks pretty incredible.
Warner Bros. Exec: “You know, we haven’t pissed off Alan Moore lately. I wonder what we could do to set him off?”
V For Vendetta TV Series In The Works At HBO (Report)
The fifth of November may have been last week, but “V for Vendetta” fans are getting a belated gift: a TV show based on the titular comic series is in development at HBO, Variety reports.
Written by Alan Moore and illustrated by David Lloyd, “V for Vendetta” was first published as a graphic novel in 1982 before DC took over publishing rights in 1998. The series takes place in a British dystopia under the control of the fascist Norsefire party. The government is targeted by V, a mysterious anarchist in a Guy Fawkes mask, who seeks the help of a woman named Evey Hammond.
From Warner Bros. Television, the series adaptation is reportedly being written by Pete Jackson, with James Gunn and Peter Safran executive-producing for DC Studios. Additional EPs include Ben Stephenson of Poison Pen and Leanne Klein of Wall to Wall Media.
“V for Vendetta” was famously adapted into a feature-length film in 2006, directed by James McTeige from a script written by the Wachowskis. Hugo Weaving played the masked anarchist V, with Natalie Portman portraying Evey.
But will it tie in to Pennyworth: The Origins of Batman’s Butler?
The fuck? Was that real? And if so, why did they use an ordinary merch plastic mask?!
Uh, as for the TV series… well, apart from the whole issue of the author not being on board, it has a lot of potential if it’s a more or less straight adaptation into a mini-series. The (kinda good but also really bad) movie couldn’t flesh out any of the minor characters, which was a huge part of the graphic novel, obviously, so that could be pretty cool. And it’s a good time for a story about resistance against an authoritarian regime.
‘Alien: Earth’ Renewed as Noah Hawley Inks New Overall Deal at FX, Disney Entertainment TV – The Hollywood Reporter
The series is set to go back into production in 2026 in London.
Alien: Earth – and the long-running creative relationship between series creator Noah Hawley and FX — will continue.
Hawley has signed a new overall deal with FX and Disney Entertainment Television, which includes a second season of Alien: Earth that will debut on FX’s cable channel and Hulu. Production is set to begin next year in London. Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter the multi-year deal is valued in the nine figures and will see Hawley broaden his scope to all of Disney Entertainment TV, which also includes ABC and Hulu Originals.
“has been our great privilege to work with Noah for more than a decade on some of FX’s best and biggest shows, and we are thrilled to extend our partnership well into the future,” FX chairman John Landgraf said in a statement. “Noah never stops surprising us with truly original stories — and his unique ability to bring them to vibrant life as a director and producer as well as writer makes him extraordinary. We can’t wait to get to work on the next season of Alien: Earth, as well as some equally exciting future projects in advanced development.”
Alien: Earth is the third series Hawley has created for FX, along with Fargo and Legion. Fargo, an anthology inspired by the Coen brothers’ movie, has run for five seasons since 2014 and won seven Emmys; Legion ran for three seasons.
“I’m thrilled that this expanded deal opens the door to new opportunities across all of Disney Entertainment Television,” said Hawley. “FX has always supported bold, character-driven storytelling. From the very beginning with Fargo, they’ve encouraged me to take creative risks and follow the story wherever it leads. I’m grateful to continue exploring the world of Alien: Earth alongside our partners, cast, and crew as we begin the next chapter.”
Added Eric Schrier, president Disney Television Studios and global original television strategy, “I learned first-hand that Noah was a unique talent while we worked on Fargo at FX. He has gone on to make many of the best shows in television, and I couldn’t be more excited that Noah will continue his FX partnership and broaden it across Disney Entertainment Television.”
The renewal for Alien: Earth promises some resolution to a cliffhanger ending to the season, which is set two years before the events of the first Alien film. “I had to plan and execute a story that that’s going someplace,” Hawley told THR about the final episode. “And then, this whole thing is a proof-of-concept experiment to see if enough people on the planet want to watch an Alien TV show to justify the expense of a second and third season of an Alien TV show. So for me, I never hedged my bets. This is not a closed-ended season. This chapter is closed. … The balance of power has shifted. These children have no idea what’s coming.”
Peacock has decided not to renew Poker Face for a third season. Natasha Lyonne exits as star, but series creator Rian Johnson, his T-Street partner Ram Bergman, MRC and Lyonne thinks there are many mysteries ahead for the show’s signature character to solve. Last night, they began an effort to shop the show to other broadcasters for a two-season commitment. The shocker: Peter Dinklage will take over the role of Charlie, the sleuth whose superpower is an innate ability to detect liars.
Deadline confirmed the plan and got this statement from Johnson and Lyonne, latter of whom stays aboard as Executive Producer: “We’ve been germinating this next move together since writing the season two finale. We love our Poker Face and this is the perfect way to keep it rolling. Give us a beat and we may just see Charlie Cale again down that open highway.”
It hasn’t been made clear if Tony Tost will continue as showrunner, or whether bringing in new for the attempted overhaul. But this is Johnson’s baby, and he’ll do as much writing and directing as he needs to in order to keep it going. Johnson has been obsessed with truth-telling since Ana de Armas played the lead opposite Daniel Craig in Knives Out, a woman who projectile vomited every time she tried to lie. Poker Face did not have those great expectorations, but was designed as a Columbo-like murder mystery of the week, Lyonne as a former casino employer whose value for being able to call bullshit got overshadowed by witnessing a crime and needing to go on the lam from a casino boss. Traveling the country in her 1969 Plymouth Barracuda, Charlie puts her superpower to use solving homicides everywhere she stops, while she stays on the run.
Poker Face finished Season Two as one of Peacock’s most-watched series, but the show is expensive and the ratings were down a bit from a first season filled with critical raves and Emmy nominations. Then again, costs are comparable to other shows with similar casts and quality. As for Lyonne, she’s still engaged as EP under her Animal banner, and has working up a story with Force & Majeure, Euphoria, Roommates, Klara and the Sun and Uncanny Valley on her dance card.
Long term, Johnson’s hope is for the franchise to evolve with a new actor to play the lead character every two years. First up is Dinklage, the Game of Thrones star most recently seen in the films Wicked and Roofman.. Series have replaced leads in the same character since Bewitched swapped Darin Stevens mid-run, and more recent examples include The Crown and Dr. Who.
Much as Johnson’s Knives Out film series has returned with a new cast to surround Daniel Craig – the third film Wake Up Dead Man bows next month on Netflix. Dinklage is firmed as the new star as CAA will look to secure a new distribution partner for the franchise to continue. Stay tuned.
Johnson & T-Street are repped by CAA, as is Dinklage and Lyonne.
The fuck? Was that real? And if so, why did they use an ordinary merch plastic mask?!
To be fair that kind of is the conceit of the mask. As a kid in the 1980s we’d make an effigy of a man and stick on a cheap plastic Guy Fawkes mask and go house to house collecting a ‘penny for the Guy’. Then at the end of the night burn it on a bonfire.
Since then the tradition has ebbed away and the image absorbed into films and Anonymous but when I was reading V in 1986 or so the context was that he was wearing a cheap plastic mask any kid would pick up at a corner shop for 25 pence and an outfit you could hire in any fancy dress shop. (Nowadays when you Google ‘Guy Fawkes costume’ around half the results call it a V for Vendetta one).

Line of Duty is coming back for another series.
Not sure this is a great idea to be honest – I enjoyed it in its prime, but it was past its peak in its final series.
Line of Duty is coming back for another series.
That’s the one with Adrian Dunbar leading the squad that goes after corrupt police? He was constantly great in that role, but toward the end the plotlines got a bit dodgy.

Yeah exactly. Let’s hope they can recapture some of that earlier energy rather than it being more like the later storylines.

Let’s fucking go!
Found this funny:
“I’m excited to see what the series could do with a budget that doesn’t require every alien planet to look like Vancouver…”
Yes, count me in!
As soon as I sent out to like minded friends, it took seconds to get a response:
“I really liked Stargate, but I need a Babylon 5, or a Battlestar Galactica reboot”

BSG was planned for a reboot since before the last series ended, and it’s never worked out. Last attempt was at Peacock, who confirmed it was dead.
JMS has tried for years to reboot B5 himself, but I don’t think anyone wants to make it.

There was a part of me that saw this news and, as well as being stoked, thought “ok but Dark Matter s4-5, maybe?”
I’m interested to see how this turns out. Will they be able to recapture the magic? Stargate being very much being a network show with 20 episode seasons to work with was part of the formula that made it work and streamers don’t tend to go for that.
Well have an 8-episode series about them finding the Stargate and figuring out how to activate it.
Caught up on Law & Order last night.
What’s this? David Ajala has joined the cast?
I guess I missed the Sept 24th announcement…
Very good, and I’ll count this as a win for L&O.
Law & Order’ Adds David Ajala to Season 25 Cast – Hollywood Reporter
Law & Order is filling a vacancy in its regular cast.
Star Trek: Discovery alum David Ajala has joined the long-running crime procedural, where he’ll play an NYPD detective alongside Reid Scott’s Vincent Riley. Ajala’s first appearance on the show will come partway through the season; Law & Order opens its 25th campaign Thursday night.
Ajala’s casting comes two months after Mehcad Brooks, who played Detective Jalen Shaw for three seasons, departed the series. In a somewhat unusual setup for the series — which has almost always featured two lead detectives investigating homicides — Scott’s character will not have a partner for the first few episodes.
‘Task’ Renewed for Season 2 at HBO With Mark Ruffalo Returning – Variety
This is good news as season I really enjoyed season 1.
Helps that it had a great cast and story.
Well have an 8-episode series about them finding the Stargate and figuring out how to activate it.
It ends on a cliffhanger, with Season 2 premiering three years later.

If it’s Netflix, it gets cancelled after series 1, of course

This makes me happy; TASK is one of the best shows I’ve watched this year, and Ruffalo is just a fantastic actor.
‘House of the Dragon,’ ‘Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ Renewed at HBO – Hollywood Reporter
The ‘Game of Thrones’ prequels will alternate years between now and 2028.
HBO will keep the Game of Thrones pipeline running for the next several years.
The premium outlet has ordered new seasons of GoT prequels House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms ahead of their 2026 premieres. House of the Dragon will get a fourth season, and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, based on George R.R. Martin’s Dunk and Egg novellas, will return for a second season.
Both shows will air in 2026, with A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms set to premiere Jan. 18 and House of the Dragon season three slated for the summer. Season two of Knight will follow in 2027, and season four of House of the Dragon is set for 2028.
Is there a comic convention on somewhere?
Where’s all this info coming from?
DC Studios ‘Lanterns’ Pushed to End of Summer 2026 at HBO – The Wrap
DC Studios’ “Lanterns” is eyeing an end of summer 2026 debut on HBO and HBO Max, CEO Casey Bloys said during a slate presentation in New York City Thursday. An official premiere date will be shared at a later date.
The drama series, which was given a straight-to-series order in June 2024 and is based on the DC comic “Green Lantern,” follows intergalactic cops Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) and John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) as they are drawn into a dark, Earth-based mystery to investigate a murder in the American heartland.
Production on the series began back in February. At the time, DC Studios presidents James Gunn and Peter Safran shared their intent for “Lanterns” to premiere in early 2026 and consist of eight episodes. Warner Bros. Discovery’s Q3 shareholder letter also stated that the show would premiere in early 2026. Reports surfaced later saying the hope was to premiere the show after the release of the studio’s “Supergirl” film in June.
Chris Mundy (“True Detective: Night Country,” “Ozark”) will be showrunner, and he’s set to co-write the series with fellow executive producers Damon Lindelof (“Watchmen,” “The Leftovers”) and Tom King (“Mister Miracle,” “Supergirl”).
James Hawes (“Slow Horses,” “Black Mirror,” “Snowpiercer”) will direct the first two episodes and serve as an EP. The series is produced in association with Warner Bros. Television.

I’ve only just started it, but I’m enjoying it so far.

Ah, no, they’ve already done that. Kinda
I never watched the original Stargate series, but I’ll be there for a high-quality SF series based on it, sure. Just don’t make it too continuity-heavy, I am not going back to a show that I felt was too tacky in the nineties.
‘SNL’ Shocker: Bowen Yang to Exit Cast After Saturday’s Episode
Bowen Yang is exiting “Saturday Night Live” in the middle of his eighth season on the show. His last turn as a cast member will be this Saturday’s episode, which is being hosted by his “Wicked” co-star Ariana Grande with Cher as musical guest.
Representatives for Yang and “Saturday Night Live” declined to comment.
Yang first joined “SNL” as a writer in 2018 for Season 44. He joined the cast as a featured player during Season 45, and was promoted to join the main cast beginning with Season 47. His work on the show earned him nominations for the supporting comedy actor Emmy in 2021, 2022, 2024 and 2025.
His exit follows the major exodus that came ahead of Season 51, which premiered on Oct. 4. Ego Nwodim, Heidi Gardner, Michael Longfellow, Devon Walker, Emil Wakim and John Higgins all recently departed the late night sketch show. Higgins’ departure was announced in tandem with his fellow Please Don’t Destroy member Martin Herlihy moving to the writing staff while Ben Marshall moved to the featured cast.
It’s atypical, though not unprecedented, that Yang is leaving “SNL” before Season 51 is over. Notable midseason exits in the show’s history have included Cecily Strong, Molly Shannon, Dana Carvey and Eddie Murphy — plus Norm Macdonald, though Macdonald’s departure was due to being fired.
Besides “SNL,” Yang is best known for the pop culture podcast “Las Culturistas,” which he cohosts with his friend and fellow comedian Matt Rogers. From 2020 to 2023, he starred in “Awkwafina Is Nora from Queens.” In addition to “Wicked” and “Wicked: For Good,” Yang’s film credits include “The Wedding Banquet” (2025), “Dicks: The Musical” (2023) and “Fire Island” (2022).
Yeah, it’s a little weird he did this chunk of the season. There were rumours he was leaving over the summer (though there was for everyone, frankly). Also, can’t believe it’s his eighth season (well, seventh on screen) already.
