Okay for the mobile users like @bruce and @tim you can check out this demo site:
https://xscape.info/demo-garjones/wp-admin/index.php
User Name = Demo-Garjones
Password= Carrier Demo 616 (yes with the spaces).
At the top left is a house icon with Demo-Garjones on it, select ‘visit site’ there, enter the forum and it will let you post now.
It does seem to be better.
There’s a delay in loading the reply text though, but that may be due to the prefabricated responses on the demo.
Had a play and its pretty nice. Only minor issue is I can’t find a way to quote the text of the post I’m replying too.
check out this demo site:
Like that.
Does it fix the size of the reply box and the video issues?
On the quote thing that’s just the option they give out of the box, I’ve changed it now to be closer to the one we use here and that option worked fine from my PC.

Yes. Both of those worked fine.

Works fine on mobile too.
Okay, looking good then. If it solves the main problems this solution is $39. The app solution I was eventually quoted $300.
So I think we’ll try this one out.
I’m happy to send you some dollars for it on top of the usual small contribution.

It’s not needed necessarily but if anyone does want to drop a little it can speed things up.
I have purchased the ‘quantum theme’ that Bruce and Tim kindly tested out for me with the December Patreon cash. I’m going to try an apply it over the next couple of days. There’s a chance it may temporarily muddle some things up until fully configured, it’ll be applied live to the board so there may be a little disruption while that is going on.
Sorry Gareth I never sent extra dollars.
I’ll make a note next pay day to do so as a Christmas thank you for your work and care
Thanks Gar. Appreciate it!
Sorry Todd, I don’t know where your post went. The usual spam quarantine area is empty – nothing was moved there.
No worries.
It was weird though that after I hit Submit, it logged me off.

Any idea when this will be up and running?
So I applied it briefly a couple of weeks back and the discussion boards all looked good but it messed up the formatting of the main index, it switched from the table format into a stream of text which looked bad.
I’m sure that can be fixed and maybe pretty easily but my dev guy is off for Christmas and New Year so I’ll activate it again when he’s back next week to take a look at it.
Thanks for the update!
The “go to latest unread post” button for the politics thread is just sending me to the first post of the first page. I think it’s started since it reached 1000 posts.

It’s a commentary on the circular nature of politics.
I think we’ve found the limit where we need to reboot threads.
I suspect so too.
I’ve also found that when a thread hits precisely 150 posts (a full page), hitting the ‘go to new post’ button from the forum topics list just takes me to a blank input field. Not a huge problem as you can click on the page numbers to get in, but maybe a little bit of a bug.
Yeah I don’t think there’s much I can do there as the code is all part of the package.
Looking at the politics thread it seems the link to latest post was broken by it hitting 1000 posts. So that looks like it’ll be our thread reboot point.

No worries, not posting it to hassle for a fix, just thought I’d mention it in case ut was a similar/related issue. Like I say it’s not a big bother.
Hope to get around to the new template tomorrow.
In the meantime if any regular doesn’t have access to the Treehouse (not that it’s that busy) put your name here and I’ll add you.
Can I count as a regular? Please.
Oh, and my name isn’t please in case there’s any confusion :)
Is your name Pip?
Heh, almost – Merry is my middle name
Bernadette Merry Isn’t-Please. Got it.
Bernadette Merry Isn’t-Please. Got it.
Well, actually, we learnt it’s either Bernadette Merry Jessica Alba Isn’t-Please or Bernadette Jessica Alba Merry Isn’t-Please.

Treehouse?
Right so that’s one vanished post in What’re You Watching and now one here.
There’s a thread in the Treehouse I’ve been trying to post in, but it won’t let me. No error message shows up- my post is just not there. I have the last two posts in the thread (but this post is unrelated to them), could that be it?
The last post is on the bottom of page 4 in that thread; if you add a post it will likely appear on page 5 just underneath the “introductory” post that appears on the top of each page.
Or not; I’m horrible with computer things.

Ok, Boomer.
Are the purple “go to first unread post” buttons working properly for everyone? There are a couple of threads (if not all, but I’m definitely noticing it on the random comics thread) where for a while now they just take me to a weeks post in the thread instead of the latest/unread one (in this case it keeps taking me to Todd’s post about the coronavirus affecting comic cons).

Ya. There are some threads that have done that for me for a while too. In most cases, it works perfectly fine but some just seem broken.
This one is really hard to diagnose because essentially where it ends up for ‘first unread post’ is unique to each user.
I just clicked on the Random Comics Thread and it took me to the latest post from Don. All working fine. I wasn’t able to check before now as no new posts had been made.
We did have everyone find it broken on the politics thread which is how I discovered it didn’t like counting past 999 posts but that’s not the issue here so I’d need your help in trying to identify some pattern before being able to start to diagnose what the problem is.
I’ve been having trouble posting pictures, whether as attachments or direct.
I would need more specifics on how you do it and where it stops working. The picture thread seems to be operating fine. I can post this picture.
The post just doesn’t show up. I’m going to try again.

I’ll try and keep a log of when and where it does it. Given it’s user determinative, could it be a cookie problem?
It could very well be a cookie problem, yes. I’m not 100% sure how it tracks what has been read but cookies would be an option.

Hmmm. In the threads where it happens, it always sends me back to the same post despite having correctly marked the “New” posts. The most notable one is the one that Martin mentions. The Random Comic Related Things thread always takes me to Todd’s SDCC coronavirus post.
Every single post I have made today gives me this screen when I submit it:
I have to fill this, then it takes me back to the post (the text isn’t lost) and allows me to submit it.
I’ve tried on two different devices, same on both.
Edit: just to clarify, I am not a robot.

First thing that all Terminators learn to say.
Testing
It’s fine now, thanks Gar

Sounds like something a robot would say…

Unfortunately, you’ve failed the board’s reverse Turing test.
David – I got an allow request for some reason or other and just authorised it. That should mean you won’t get that message any more, tell me if it is otherwise.
You weren’t supposed to let him through.

This board is obviously biased against Deep Purple fans.
Just like most people.
That Bieber fella gives me a boost in the ol’ fanjo.
Well, we’ve got either a really weak DDoS attack or a really inept spambot. Or Gareth has screwed something up.
I know which my money is on
btw, careful because the DC movies thread is probably somewhere in the middle of all that spam =P
I’m now reading
Every post
To the tune of
Spidey-Pig
It works!
A couple of years back I ended up somehow singing the ‘rap’ section of Madonna’s Vogue to the first two lines of the tune of the Spider Man cartoon. It stuck in my head and never went away because it fits.
Spider-Man, Spider-Man, Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man
They had style, they had grace, Rita Hayworth gave good face
Look out, here comes the Spider-Man!
I’ve tried replying to DavidM’s latest post in the Storytelling thread, but I can’t. When I hit Submit the page reloads as if I’d posted, but there is no new post. If i try to reload that page, I get a confirmation from the browser that “for the page to reload the bla bla bla you’ve entered must be sent again, do you wish to proceed”, so it seems the info was sent from my part. I could, in the same session but another tab, reply in a different thread no problem.
I’m assuming the thread went into auto-lockdown because Man of Steel was mentioned.
There seems to be an annoying bug in the software that every now and again won’t let you post in a particular thread. It doesn’t seem to happen that often (I had it once in the 6 months or so we’ve been running, in Al’s relationship thread) and it goes away but I’ve been unable to find any advice online on how and why it happens.
The only advice I can give now is if it is some great tome of wisdom pressing ‘back’ on a browser will bring it up again and it can be copied for posting later when it fixes itself.
I don’t want to live on this planet anymore…
Now there’s an image that belongs in the relationship thread.
Well, that definitely changed my idea of why man of steel would be mentioned in the relationship thread.
How do you un-ignore a user you’ve preciously ignored?
How did you do it?
I may have accidentally hit the ignore button without meaning to.
Well, we’ve got either a really weak DDoS attack or a really inept spambot. Or Gareth has screwed something up.
I know which my money is on
Or we’ve mentioned covid so much, it evolved into a computer virus.
Did someone leave? I’m curious because there is now an Anonymous poster and I wonder how he became anonymous. I don’t need any details about who it was/is.
Yes. The ‘anonymous’ tag comes if someone deleted their account after posting. I found that out after deleting a spammer’s account the other day.
Even if you did want the details of who it was even with site admin powers I don’t know how to find out. It shall forever remain a mystery.
Simple question:
How do you insert in your post those emoji’s at the bottom?
It shall forever remain a mystery.
It starts with J and rhymes with Donny.
Simple question:

You just click on them.
There are other options too. Some emojis can appear of you type in the keyboard codes. You can also on Windows use the ‘virtual keyboard’ and use those.
Al-x wrote: Simple question: How do you insert in your post those emoji’s at the bottom? You just click on them.
Al-x, it helps if you switch from “text” to “visual” on the upper right when you are posting, but after you switch make sure your cursor is in the correct location.
Every now and again, I seem to get “empty” posts. It seems as if it’s a lot of posts by the same users and it’s almost always (at least as far as I figure) posts with pictures in them.
Example from the top post in the image thread attached.
Is it as simple as regionally locked content being linked? Maybe it’s my adblocker filtering content. Just checking in to see if anyone else has this (minor) issue.
It can be a temporary issue with downloading images, could be slow connections or geoblocking, it’s nothing that can be fixed at my end I’m afraid.
I have set up a Twitter account. Would appreciate it if everyone on that platform gives a follow back.
https://twitter.com/thecarrier6
A small few have here but it’s a potential way to keep the forum going if we can get new blood and don’t slowly drain away.

Done!
Gar, can you limit the amount of posts shown per page in a specific thread? The video thread needs nerfing, my computer can’t handle it. Maybe 10-15 posts per page?
I can’t do it for one thread I’m afraid, it’s a board-wide setting. It’s actually designed to be 25 posts per page rather than 150 but there was a bit of culture shock when we moved across from the ‘infinite scroll’ style of the Discourse board Jim was running.
Personally it makes no difference to me, I tend to read the board using ‘latest unread’ post. If others are happy with more pagination then I’m ok to change it but I’ll go with the consensus.
I don’t mind either way really.
I think it’s nice to have a lot of posts per page, except for the video thread. My computer screeches to a halt trying to load it.
It shall forever remain a mystery.

Peter?
Things have been running very smoothly here over the last few months. I just want to take a moment to thanks @garjones for all the effort you have put into maintaining this site. I’m sure I speak for others in saying we appreciate what you’ve done for us since the old MillarWorld site closed down.
While we deal with a global pandemic and a worldwide financial recession, it’s always a comfort to be able to come here and participate in a moment of camaraderie and catharsis. Best wishes to everyone who makes this a fun and comforting place to spend some time.
Cheers Jerry.
Thanks to everyone who contributes to the Patreon. Part of the reason for the smoother running is I went from all free software to a paid template and toolbox which is updated regularly with fixes.
The cover here was copy and pasted directly into the post, something which didn’t work before and we had to use the attachment or image link options instead. I only realised by accident that functionality had been added.
Oh that’s neat!
Couple of thoughts:
Yes, the site is running smooth. I occasionally have issues with my phone, but pretty sure it’s a local network thing (too many people at home, working or not).
I’ll leave it up the the higher ups, but maybe a shout out to those that may have went missing in the beginning?
It was a bit annoying in the early days and I kind of assume that was the main reason for some disappearances.
Or did they just turn into lurkers?
I don’t know about website numbers/traffic, but currently:
There is currently 8 users and 27 guests online
Activity within the past 24 hours: 26 users and 835 guests
Good, bad, or indifferent? But 835 seems like a good number.
And if it’s not too personal, how are we on the money front?
I hope no one is going out of pocket.
And if you’re making money, then I applaud it. Seriously, you deserve it.
