Their back and forth feud never ends:
The end of the line, well, for now, is here.
I’ve the first book of Coda, the second on the way but need to wait on the third.
Don’t hate George. The only time he gets press is when he talks bad about me. He claims 50+ years ago I took away a camera angle that denied him 30 more seconds of prime time TV. 🤷🏼♂️ I’m giving it back to him now by letting him spew his hatred for the world to see!🤣 Bill the 🐷

This is so nice…
What MLK said to Nichelle…
Episode 1 of Prodigy is out, and I enjoyed it. It is very much a kids’ show, the protagonists are all teenagers and the level of peril is not… massive. But the dialogue is decent, the voice acting is very good, and the animation is a bit standard in its design but well-executed. Gonna keep watching for now, anyway.

Btw, this week the Center Seat documentary series premiered, the first episode covering the original three seasons of Star Trek.
There is an aftershow podcast: https://open.spotify.com/show/4II9Q2WCm7HFtI02HIUALX
Oh, and the most important Star Trek audio log ever, revealing many secrets:
On this week’s Pilot TV podcast, they confirmed that Netflix won’t be showing Discovery S4 this week, and won’t say if/when they will air it.
Wow, clearly negotiations are either tense or failing.
I’ve been wondering if something was going on there. They’ve not released a Netflix branded trailer or even have a new season coming tag on the app. I wonder if they’ve lost the rights, or if they’ve waiting till it’s done so they can release the season in one go.
I imagine it’s the latter, it’s doing well enough for them that it was in the top 10 every week for series 3.
Confirmed:
https://deadline.com/2021/11/star-trek-discovery-netflix-deal-paramount-viacomcbs-1234875466/
Basically P+ wants its baby for the around the globe launches
ViacomCBS wants full control, so they basically paid out Netflix to get out of the previous deal, looking ahead to the P+ european launch.
We have P+ down here in Argentina, but we are getting for example Lower Decks in full seasons, instead of weekly, so I hope they eventually change that.

Paramount+ is going to be part of Sky Cinema in the UK, which is €30 extra a month. I assume it’ll be available separate from Sky too (unlike Peacock), but I can’t see myself paying for it.

Tilly: Fucking shit!
I might see if I can fill the gap by watching hourlong youtube videos of people crying.
My fellow Trek fans…
I don’t know about this:
Granted, the series is over, but would it have been a little more interesting if there were more Tuvok and Seven scenes to have heard them discuss their logic and so on?
Maybe the writers feared both of them together would be too much of an overlap.
The series went with Janeway and Seven in doing more adventure. Seven did take away from other characters. Not that she overwhelmed the others. Who knows?
————
In TOS, it was Spock making a key observation, relaying the information to Kirk, and Kirk would use it to formulate the winning plan of attack.
Would that have worked in the later series?
My fellow Trek fans…

Therefore, during this transition, we are doing everything we can to get the new season to you as soon as possible. Where Paramount+ is available in Australia, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Finland, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Norway, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Sweden, Uruguay, and Venezuela, the first two episodes will be available Friday, November 26, with new episodes being released weekly. We are also offering Star Trek fans in these markets a new membership promotion on Paramount+ for 50% off for the first three months with code STARTREK.*
In Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom, Pluto TV, the leading free streaming television service, will drop new episodes at 9pm local time on the Pluto TV Sci-Fi channel each Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with a simulcast running on the Star Trek channel in Austria, Switzerland, and Germany. This will begin with the first two episodes on Friday, November 26.
In the UK, Germany, France, Russia, South Korea and additional select countries, we are also making Season 4 available for purchase on participating digital platforms beginning Friday, November 26.
Idiots. Pluto TV is utter crap.
Looks like Pluto isn’t available in Ireland at all.
The Center Seat release schedule has been a little erratic since last week, yesterday they aired both episodes 3 (Phase 2/TMP) and 4 (Movies II-IV), which covers the four episodes that were going to air in the channel.
In the History Vault streaming they are supposed to have episodes 5 (TNG), 6 (DS9) 7 (VOY), 8 (about ships), and 10 (which is a 1h25, about guest stars and I am guessing it is recycled from an announced but unreleased 2019 documentary, That Guy… Who Was In That Thing 3: Trek Stars), but no 9.
I’ve never heard of Pluto TV. How easy is it to access?
I’ve never heard of Pluto TV.
It’s not considered a proper channel, it’s been downgraded to dwarf channel.
Book 3 of Coda will soon be its way to me.
Everyone knows Trek books don’t have any affect on TV / Film and they have to follow the lead set by those. Clearly Picard blows this entire line sky-high, but it’s been going 20 years, has a rather loyal, niche fanbase so, despite not really counting, the line got a trilogy send-off. That never happens on reboots, so it’s great to see it here.

It wasn’t always like this…
Two episodes:
There were a few courtroom dramas. One that comes to mind is the one that had this lawyer who for some reason was out for blood and she was on the ship turning everything into a witch hunt. In the end, Picard, I would say, goaded or baited her by quoting something and she went on this fanatical tirade exposing her madness right there in court. The Federation official saw the whole thing and just walked out. Later on, all charges were dropped. It was an interesting episode.
——–
Another one was on Voyager, when they went back to Earth in the 90’s. (The writers ignored the Khan story which was a big mistake.)
Anyway, in that timeline, a hippie in the late 60s discovered the 25th century timeship that crash landed, then spent the next 20 years reverse engineering the tech from that ship and became this engineering mogul. I don’t quite remember how Voyager got there, but the Doctor ended up with the holo emitter and was then able to go outside sickbay from that story on.
Well, that’s that. Coda brings down the curtain on 20 years of reading Trek books that I had no idea was going to happen when news of the DS9 relaunch and Avatar grabbed my interest so long ago.
I have to agree with the assessment that the first half of those years was stronger than the second, the mess with the Ascendants and the Destiny time jump took some recovering from, then along came the Hobus mess, that finally gets resolved and then along comes the Picard series to kill it all off. Whatta a revoltin’ development. Still, the books play the cards they get as best as they can and that is what happened, time after time. Does Coda erase all that? I can understand the view that it does, that my angle of greatest angle of interest DS9 did get shortchanged – I became hooked by so many other litverse strands but DS9 is where it started – but, for me, it succeeds on the final pages, with that sequence with the Prophets’ remembering all of it. That works for me, as does the final, final pages with Benny Russell.
Does it all work? No. The Riker plot was unbalanced, it went on too long in the negative and the endpart with Riker back wasn’t quite enough. Books 1-2 were stronger for me than Book 3, which staggered with the erasing of the timeline plot addition. That threw a spanner in the gears despite my expecting…. something. Talking of which, this was cleverly marketed. From the way the last Voyager books played out, I was suspecting Krenim temporal manipulations – I was, I suppose, half right. I was expecting a fair bit of carnage, that also played out. The smart move was telegraphing this generally, but not specifically. Knowing the type of story this was going to be informed my response to it, but did that stop any of the deaths stinging? Nope, and that is testimony to the writing. Each of them felt fitting, but none more so than that set for Klag and Martok.
Does it then work as a finale? For me it does. I can’t say I followed all of the time travel stuff across the trilogy but that’s also part of the fun too. The Borg earth worked well too. As to the future of my interest in Trek generally, this, combined with the changes to how TV Trek is accessed, with Paramount slinging it onto their to-be-launched-at-some-point streamer and that I lost all interest in Discovery with that terrible Georgiou two-parter in series 3, does all add up to a rather perfect jumping off point. I don’t want to add another streaming subscription, I can’t say I’m grabbed by Picard – as a freebie bundled with Amazon Prime? Ok, as something to be paid for separately? Nope.
It’s been a strange pattern of activity across the various corporate properties. Star Wars. Star Trek. Aliens. Terminator. Bond. All with various revivals, but which also tended to involve burning down what came before without putting much onto the scorched earth that resulted. Invariably, in the case of Bond, it’ll reboot, probably true for a couple of the others too. Wars? My interest in that will probably reduce with the end of the High Republic which I’ve really enjoyed, but continue with the odd D+ miniseries. For Trek books? This is the end of the line but an end like this, where corporate reboots are concerned, so rarely happen. For that I have to give the writers and Pocket Books their due, they did not have to do this. I’m happy that they did.
Apparently, Picard S1 didn’t really excite anyone (apart from the cameo scenes where we saw some old TNG characters stop by and visit)
Synths? Huh?So they went to the old sensational material of bringing back Q, the Q/Picard relationship, alternate reality, a plot to go back in time to fix the past, and so on.
They know that more fans will get on board for that.
“Seems like nobody liked our super-nostalgic Star Trek series. So let’s make sure to make the next one ULTRA-nostalgic! Surely that will fix our problems!”
Cameos and old characters will always get fan chatter, but it’s not what actually keeps people watching and being excited for a show.
I don’t think I’ll watch the next season of Picard, much as it hurts because I love Patrick Stewart.
I liked S1 because I liked the synths story(didn’t hurt that I thought the twins were very attractive), the characters were good too, I liked the nomad and the captain as well. I am looking forward to S2.

Fun fact! The actor who played The Traveller was originally up for the role of Data before Brent was cast.

Speaking of, it’s been confirmed it’ll still be on Prime outside the US. I guess either Paramount Plus didn’t bother trying to buy it back, after the mess that was the Discovery removal, or Amazon didn’t take what they were offering.
Still no launch date on Paramount Plus over here.
So Prodigy’s back on hiatus. I enjoyed this batch of episodes well-enough, the way the characters came together at the end felt earned, there’s been plenty of fun moments along the way. And then that cliffhanger moment! And we don’t have a date for episode 11 yet!

Really? But then how would the internet know my opinions?!
Seriously, I haven’t seen most of Enterprise or Voyager either. I highly doubt that I will be back for more Picard unless there is some seriously positive word of mouth about it, which really is a shame as I enjoy Patrick Stewart. I just can’t help myself with Discovery, though, which is in no way a good show (although better than it used to be) but has a certain charm to it nonetheless. It’s like that video of Liam Gallagher being interviewed by a bunch of five year-olds but in space.

Well, the weekend is just starting….
I was reading on Facebook about the “Tapestry” episode.
One person compared it to Back to the Future 3 when Marty pulled in reverse and
didn’t race thereby avoiding the Rolls Royce crash and opening up the possibilities
of his future.
Interesting, but the comparison missed the point.
The thread went on to say that it was two different stories and that IRL, you must pick
your battles, sometimes you must answer the challenge and fight, other times you must decline.
So…
I saw the Picard season 2 premiere. I will reserve a review. There was a trailer at the end about the rest of the season and it is the formula and plots of what we all said it would be.
I don’t know…. Seriously… Would it be Ok to make a Picard thread now? We already have this Star Trek thread and another one on DISCO.
I will leave that up to the higher powers. 😂

I hope they do a 10-hour adaptation of All Good Things only Troi is alive now to fuck with people.
I haven’t started season two yet. Is it so bad they’re having to promote season three already?.
Most people think it’s an improvement, and it’s been the most popular thing on Amazon Prime all month, so I guess not.
This listing of reasons is not bad… pretty good in fact:
https://www.slashfilm.com/822925/reasons-why-deep-space-nine-is-the-best-star-trek-show/
They forgot the biggest reason: Captain Benjamin motherfucking Sisko.
He is there as the great single dad role.
You know, it was Avery Brooks that changed the ending of his character.
As you know, Sisko fought Dukat in that cave (some kind of Christ vs antichrist battle)
and Sisko ascended to the other dimension. It was said that he was not coming back but
Avery told the showrunners that it would look bad saying Sisko was an absentee black father to
his son and pregnant wife. So they put it in that he would return to the station.
But my favorite scene was that episode where they were infected and were making out with each other.
Bashir and Kira (that episode led to the actors getting together irl), Jadzia and Sisko.
In the end, Bashir figured it all out and said the infection would wear off in a day or two ,
Then he said he was heading to Kira’s room to f her and supposedly take advantage of her
and Sisko stopped him and told him to hold off the visit “for a day or two”.

Interesting take from Jolene Blalock on her own character
Did You Know: Jolene Blalock Loves Star Trek, But Has Major Criticisms For One Character
If people are looking for an honest opinion on Picard and don’t want to venture into the spoiler thread:
It’s fixed a bunch of problems from series 1, but is generating new ones in their wake. One of the big frustrations people had on here was that it felt like it took the characters ages to get to The Artefact. Here instead of having a set goal from episode 1, it takes the characters a few episodes to figure out what they need to do, and they keep getting sidetracked with additional complications. I’m still broadly enjoying the show, the dialogue is good, the actors are great, it looks amazing – it’s just not clicking right in a different way to it not clicking just right last year.
I found out that the hard slap to the back of Kirk by the Klingon Kang was actually real as was Shatner’s looking and reacting to the hard slap. All on camera and preserved.
The actor was married to Barbara Eden at the time and didn’t like Shatner talking to her so much.
—————————
In Ds9, the episode where the Mirror O’Brien took Capt. Sisko to their universe to impersonate the Mirror Sisko who was killed. Capt. Sisko played the part and even had sex with the Mirror Jadzia who didn’t know about the switch. That was awkward, because it seemed he took advantage of her. Also, when he returned, how does he look at his own Jadzia? Did he subconsciously want to bang her all along and saw that moment as his chance? I remember in the discussion boards, some were high fiving the character saying Sisko is the man. Not that he is the fulfillment of a Bajoran prophecy, emissary, Federation diplomat handling the Bajor situation, Captain, single father, etc… only when he banged her is he “the man”. Smh
