Let’s start with the ultimate question:
Ewoks.
Well in Doctor Who, Humans are the main aliens, and as a rule Humans are generally terrible.
Looking forward to season 2 of SNW. It is modern day TOS.I hope they abandoned that Pike hair gag.
Kirk is there and if the seasons go on, they COULD put Kirk as captain, slowly bring in a McCoy, Scotty, and Sulu, and
make episodes that supposedly take place right before “The Man Trap”
I appreciate that SNW episode 1 low-key told fans to stop worrying about visual differences between the shows

Yes… at this point, does it really matter? And to whom? It is like fans who still point out how many died in WW3: TOS said one thing, TNG said another, but…
As for SNW, the things is we know the characters from TOS, so is there any real suspense in a prequel series if characters we already know are in a life/death situation?
Why is any suspense needed at all? If you require the main characters in a series of continuing adventures to be at frequent risk of death to emotionally invest in it:
1 – It’s a really limited device that can’t be used often.
2 – More importantly, it’s not that kind of show.
Also, when people get wise to what can be dubbed the GoT style, it collapses fast as characters are not invested in as characters, but are seen as pieces on a board.
Yes… at this point, does it really matter? And to whom? It is like fans who still point out how many died in WW3: TOS said one thing, TNG said another, but…
It never mattered, but you still had a ton of fans shitting themselves because the Klingons looked different in DISCO.
That fucking accent……
I wonder if the new engineer ever met Guinan for all the years she spent on Earth.
As for the new episode… I wish we still had with us the member who went to law school so he could fill us in on a few things
I liked the defense attorney. She was nice
It was a good episode and she is back on board.
Paramount+ Cancels 4 Series, Including Grease, The Game and Star Trek: Prodigy
Star Trek: Prodigy comes as the biggest surprise of this bunch, as the animated series had already been renewed for a second season. Though Prodigy will be removed from the streamer “shortly,” post-production is being completed on Season 2 and the studio will attempt to find a home for it. Meanwhile, Paramount+ says it remains committed to its upcoming slate of Star Trek projects, including the YA-targeted Starfleet Academy and the movie event Star Trek: Section 31.
Hopefully someone will take Prodigy because it was much better than it had any right to be.
I’d assume it’ll still be on Nickelodeon at least.
I wonder if Paramount+ would have been better off if it was just a Star Trek subscription service. All the old shows, new shows, documentaries, podcasts, shorts, etc, $5-10 a month. License all the other tat to other streaming services instead.

I think WB tried something similar with DC but ended up folding it into Max.
I really don’t think a Star Trek streaming service would have enough subscribers to justify the associated costs, especially for new programming. They would be better off striking a licensing agreement with Netflix, Max, or Apple+ where one of them becomes the new “home” for ST. All old and new content can be found there.
Not all the streaming services that we have now are going to be around several years from now. There will be mergers and acquisitions by the bigger ones. Some entertainment companies, like say Paramount, might be better off being content providers for networks, cable, and streaming services. Make money off licensing fees for the content. It takes some of the risk off the service providers and can save them on the development costs.
It’ll be interesting to see how it all plays out.
Have we a thread for strange new worlds or do we chat here?
The new episode was a lot of fun and I’m a big fan of them adapting Doctor Who cannon rules due to the amount of people travelling through time and messing with the time line.
Fanboys are going to weep. 🤣
Oh? So potentially undoing Pike’s future fate?
Trek has a few dozen timelines at this point, it can handle one more.
The DTI may disagree.
Yeah, I enjoyed that episode, and it made me think of something that I hope they don’t shy away from.
We can’t be beholden to the past in case it interferes with “Season One Episode 22”
And while I didn’t at first jive with the casting of Kirk, I am okay with it and actually like it.
Can you imagine the hard job that was?
Good decision to not invite anyone that would want to do their “William Shatner Party Trick”
And they did a good job on the episode, nice shout out to where they film, except for early 21st Century Toronto Police (in real life the Province of Ontario uses the OPP – Ontario Provincial Police as opposed to the RCMP) looking like an absolute joke.
I’ve done jail time for less. I mean my friend has.
And while I get it, someone just shows up and tells you to shut up and not speak a word. “Protecting the timeline”
And you obey? Hokey at best when you get down to it.
Also: Dutch from Shield in those Voyager episodes
But yeah, if you could, why wouldn’t you disrupt Starfleet?
Is this going to be an ongoing plot point?
It was a fun episode. I hope each crew member gets their own alternate time line secret adventure with Kirk and no-one ever talks about them.
Notice that she left a loaded gun in the room with Him before she leapt? So then they found Him with a lethal weapon alone in a facility full of dead guards and no explanation for what happened, which leads to Him being treated like a dangerous killer, which leads to Him becoming hateful, which leads to Him plotting revenge, which leads to Him becoming a dangerous killer? New head canon.
Kirk must have hustled a hell of a lot of chess to afford that fancy pants hotel room.
Terry Farrell was my Star Trek crush.

Aw damn, 62 is way too young
This isn’t a “problem”. Franz Joseph showed us how this worked back in the ’70s: https://biblio.co.uk/9780345244710
Lame! no current cast members and Ashley Judd and Alice Eve, really! Ehh. Stick the women from SNW in there and it would clear out at least half that List. Add data’s kid from Picard, Michelle Yeoh, and the Captain of Disco and the only ones left are Farrell and Ryan. I am disqualifying Zoe because the Kelvin Universe is dead after only 3 adventures.
to possibly stir up something
I would even include her in that list.
I assume it’s an indication of how bad Strange New Worlds season 2 is that there’s more posts on ranking the attractiveness of the female officers than there is about the show this past few weeks.
The first season was a mixed bag of awful, middling and genuinely good; to me that showed promise in comparison to post season 1 discovery and Picard season 2.
Ad Astra is one of the worse episodes of Star Trek I’ve ever seen, to stand out in the era of nu trek is really saying something. Terribly hamfisted melodrama with the thinnest fucking veneer of sci fi/Star Trek imaginable.
Is the remainder of the season of a similar standard? There’s no point me checking the answer to this online because apparently this episode was great. My assumption is most people have given up watching, so the only people still tuning in are people who can sit thru this sort of stuff.
Nah, it’s really good but people just aren’t talking about it here.

Thanks, I’ll stick with it 👍

I don’t think it’s been as good as season 1, but I’m still really enjoying it.
They just need to remember to explore a bit more.
I’m loving all the character work but would like a bit more adventure.
I’m the opposite in that I’m preferring it over series 1 quite a lot. I felt that the writing on 1 was a bit eh, almost every episode fell flat a some point in terms of plotting, there was often some easy convenience at a pivotal moment, but that feels to have faded into the background or the convenient moments aren’t as important? Like in the Kirk/La’an story the only really contrived bit was when they were stopped by the cops but that worked into the overall plot very well.
SNW2 is just good plain fun, especially the most recent sitcomy episode. Spock trying to beat the crap out of Kirk for daring to leave a dirty plate on his table was tremendous.
Gotta be noted, however, that Spock was a pretty shit fiance.

I would if I could see it. But no channel I get to seems to care enough to show it.
Edit: ok, I’m being stupid. It’s exclusive to Paramount’s paid service, isn’t it?

Yeah, the “Home to Star Trek” Except Prodigy, now.
Im sorry people are missing SNW2. Excusing my infatuation with Jess Bush (Chapel), the stories have been good. Spock as Captain and Spock as human have been interesting episodes. La’an’s trip to an alternative timeline and her past was was good. It was made lighter by the introduction of an Alt Kirk. I’m still waiting for the Lower DECKS crossover.
I love nurse Chapel and do like seeing that storyline play out.
There hasn’t been an episode that has disappointed me yet this season, its been very good.
Still only 10 episodes in a season. Of course I’d prefer 12 – 16, but at least i can count on quality (and a gorgeous look to it overall, and some very nice crew quarters).
All the cast members are on Instagram. They all have nice pictures of themselves in between takes, on the set, production design.
Once again, Uhura conveniently leaves the ship and avoids T’Pring. I wonder why?🤣
Soon we will be getting the “Lower Decks” crossover and the real in continuity Kirk will visit the ship.
Cool
Didn’t get the part where Pike had them over, he prepared Vulcan delicacies for them, and he just stood there as the mother shit all over his preparations, Starfleet, and humanity in general. Pike is the captain. Would Kirk have stood for all that?
Another enjoyable episode this week. Seems like they could very easily keep the show going for longer by flashing forward into the TOS era.

This was the first really everage episode of the series for me. Just nothing I hadn’t seen 100 times before. Still better than most of Discovery though.

The crossover episode between SNW & Lower Decks is premiering TODAY on P+
And I don’t know if you saw that they are working on some shorts/promotional trailers for the 50th Anniversary of TAS, featuring characters from other incarnations:
🚨NEW TAS INSPIRED SHORTS!
It's the 50th Anniversary of #StarTrek: The Animated Series, to celebrate five new character-based shorts were announced at #SDCC today. They'll focus on Riker, Quark, Saru, & Nelix, with more announced on #StarTrekDay in September! pic.twitter.com/rGnCb7AXZm

And confirmed that one episode of SNW is a musical

So if I search for “Strange New Worlds episodes” I find:
S02 E07 “Those Old Scientists” – July 27th
S02 E08 “Under The Cloak of War” – August 3rd
yet here in Canada I get those for free (well…) on CTV Sci-Fi Channel
Flicking through the guide and something titled “Special Presentation” in on right now, and I go to it, it’s ST:SNW E7 (the Lower Decks crossover that should be this coming Thursday)
Then I check my upcoming recordings and I’m scheduled for both episodes 7 & 8 this Thurs. (July 27th).
Unknown why, but may be playing somewhere in San Diego tonight for SDCC (best speculation I got).
Definitely not suggesting you look for piracy, because that shit is illegal, but episode 7 may be streaming somewhere…
Just to add, due to the early airing of Episode 07, P+ has rescheduled the rest one week before:
Assuming that finale is going to be the Gorn conflict they’ve been teasing all year, given their nation is the Gorn Hegemony.
Just now realising that the acronym for the most recent episode was TOS. Cheeky.

It was a joke in series 1 of Lower Decks, as seen at the start of this clip compilation:
Nice. Not seen Lower Decks but I did very much enjoy the crossover. Spock was quite the scene stealer. The LD ensign inadvertently disrupting Spock’s relationship with the nurse may have preserved the Spock that is needed to go on to save the galaxy, without smiling, so good on him.
I highly recommend Lower Decks, it’s a bit of a rocky start but by halfway through series 1 it’s firing on all cylinders. It’s still my favourite of the modern Trek shows.
Well damn, I can see why they sandwiched this week’s SNW between the Lower Decks crossover and a musical. Had to have the mood whiplash

I’m only in season 2 but I thought there was some genuinely really good episodes of Lower Decks once season 1 got going
Some really interesting subjects handled well.
Had to have the mood whiplash
That was crazy tone whiplash! Now, if only we’d had a bit more of that gravitas over the season. I love all the character stuff and hijinks of season 2 but it left the show feeling inconsequential compared to season one.
Still not sure about the doctor being the Enterprise’s one man death machine but I’m having enough fun not to mind.
Oh man! Good episode, thick and meaty. Yeah, I could’ve had a bit more of that this season but am really enjoying the ride.
Good news – the audiobook of A Stitch In Time, Garak’s back story, written by the actor who played him, Andrew Robinson, who also reads the audio version, is now out.
Bad news – It’s US-only, with them going as far as blocking postage to UK addresses on amazon.com CD purchase and applying geo-location to audible.com log-ins.
Baffling decision – company doesn’t want to make money I guess.
Probably. Or they under-estimated the attention this was going to get. Could be both.
Prodigy series 2 preview:
https://intl.startrek.com/videos/star-trek-prodigy-season-2-first-look
Getting caught up on SNW season 2 and I did not realise that the finale was going to end on a cliffhanger. Needless to say my reaction to that “to be continued” sign was far from friendly. Especially as we have no vague idea of when it will be continued now! Fantastic show, though. Easily the most fun I’ve had watching Star Trek this century.
Every Lower Decks review of the new season looks positive.
REVIEW: Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 4 Goes Boldly Forward and Funnier Than Ever – CBR
Fresh off a well-received crossover episode with Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, the hit animated series Star Trek: Lower Decks is back for its fourth season on Paramount+. Continuing the voyages of the USS Cerritos, a service vessel within the Starfleet armada often tasked with the more menial jobs around the United Federation, Lower Decks is just as packed with funny nods to the Star Trek mythos as it’s ever been. Instead of just delivering more of the same, Lower Decks Season 4 takes even bigger creative swings with its story and characters and fortunately, connects more often than not.
