Server Move

Topic

As referenced in another thread I am moving to a new offer from my hosting provider. They’ll move us to a new server as part of that.

Kindly be advised that we slot in the account migration dated 27 July 2023 at 12 AM. 

Malaysia is at GMT/UTC +8 hours. Expect an outage on the site for a couple of hours as they shift the files to a new server.

I have not had any issues since support’s “tweak”.

I am cautiously optimistic that support’s actions may have resolved our problem.

Cool, good to see things worked out.

Thanks for getting this all sorted Gar. Between holidays and the outages I fell off the site for most of August, but I’m glad to see it all worked out.

Since the tweak, I haven’t had any issues on any of my devices.

I believe we have weathered the storm.

Are we back? I’ve not been able to get in over the past few days but it’s working this morning (albeit with a bunch of error code up top).

Just sayin’, I’ve had a few shitty days of trying to get here. Phone was horrendous at times, home computer also (but was fine for me for shipping thread last Wed. at 5pm PST).

I think it’s a glitch in board. I’m sure when Gar comes back around, he can put a ticket in with support and they can fix it pretty quickly.

Like I said above, I honestly think it can be resolved by tech support quickly and easily.

I’ve a misaligned screen, it doesn’t scroll horizontally and a pile of text crap between the text box and the submit button.

Yeah, I’ve just started getting the same. The text box is no longer fitting the screen and there’s suddenly a lot of code down below as well as up top.

I’m also having issues accessing threads when the screen refuses to scroll entirely.

I don’t know if Gar is still looking in but I haven’t heard from him in a long while. If nobody is addressing these errors then I guess the site may become unusable at some point soon.

It may be worth considering an alternative. The other board I frequented died last summer and the userbase evacuated to Discord. It’s taken a little getting used to, but it’s a decent substitute.

The Discord server is The Mark Millar memorial Prometheus appreciation society. I guess we can move there until something changes or unitl we have another solution.

I still think this is something tech support could fix quickly if we could get ahold of Gar and he could put a ticket in.

I’ve just seen error messages within a post too (Lorcan’s last in the picture thread). Looks to be to do with the emoticons, which I think is also why there’s ones between the text field and submit buttons in the reply area.

Apologies. I took some time away because I was having some mental health issues. When I get down I have a tendency to get argumentative, I wanted to spare you that for a little while wit every intention to return and had no idea the site had major issues until I saw it come through on Patreon today.

Now I know I’ll get on trying to fix it. It looks beyond my abilities at first but will see if I can get help from my old dev guy.

Dan actually got me by posting on the Patreon wall which got sent to my email. For some reason Patreon has never been set up to notify if anyone either increases or removes their sub, you have to log on seek it out.

It’s quite bizarre really, a (rightly deserved) consumer boycott should be most effective but on that platform just any reply of ‘bananas’ on the wall to a 5 year old post has more effect. Silly really.

There seems to be growing discrepancies between when the board says the last post in a thread was and when it actually was, again (seems to be about an hour). Which isn’t a problem in and of itself, but wasn’t it a symptom of something else when it happened recently?

They are posts that are automatically flagged as spam (and so are hidden from view) but annoyingly still seem to show up on the latest activity for the boards, making it look like there are new replies.

I could manually delete them each time, which should make them disappear, but it becomes like whack-a-mole given how many there are.
