Sad news. A legendary artist who was truly one of the greats.

Sad news, indeed. His art was pretty special, especially on Spider-Man. Such a change from Ditko but I suspect just as important to the character’s longevity over time.

I agree. In many ways he honed the definitive ‘classic’ look for Spidey, one that’s still used today as the baseline for the character.

And Spidey’s supporting cast were really defined by Romita’s art too – especially the women in Pete’s life.

More widely I think he really shaped the look of Marvel comics as a whole during that era.

Agreed. I think his style was so popular it became a level of ‘house style’ for a lot of 70s and 80s Marvel comics.  He was the most influential artist in that company until Jim Lee appeared and then became the new style to copy.

    RIP Mr Romita Sr

JRSR’s death is especially hard for me as he is my all time favorite comic book artist. He is at the very top of my list. I fell in love with his work as a child as it instanly grabbed me.

And DAMN, could he draw beautiful women!!!

    RIP
