I wonder who’ll be next week’s Prime Minister?

I think there’s something evil happening with the DOJ talking to Ghislaine Maxwell.
“Okay, Gislaine, remember to say that Trump didn’t even know Epstein and definitely never was on his plane, his island or had any private sex parties with underage girls with him. And in return, well, we can’t pardon you immediately, but he’ll do it at the end of his term, okay? Now there’s a good girl.”
Something along those lines?
And that assumes Trump will live to see out the end of his term.
I’ve been seeing the term “late stage capitalism” online and on T shirts in the city. (Everybody makes their statement one way or another). I got the gist of what it meant ie. a society that where capitalism has gone on for so long that it is taking its toll on it. The society is on its way down and dying, not being what it once was. Saw this on the Google AI and it fits the US to a degree:
As explained in 1976:
Well, now I’m mad as hell, and…
Well, now I’m mad as hell, and…
Late-stage capitalism is from Marx’s writings, one more thing he accurately predicted.
Google has it as late stage capitalism, late capitalism, and postmodernism.
Interesting, and it is all true. Marx was right.
Structures do collapse on themselves after a while
I just got hit by the age verification barrier on Reddit, so I thought I’d experiment with it. I’d heard that you can spoof some of them with just photo mode in video games (which I tried last night on Bluesky’s using Ghost of Tsushima, but it didn’t work). Thought I’d really push the boat out and just use a GI Joe Classified figure, because well the head sculpts on them are really good, enough that the camera on my phone will recognise them as faces. And yeah, it worked. As far as Reddit knows, I look like this:
Well, now I’m mad as hell, and…
Maybeshewill use this speech so well in this song. It’s just the most furious thing.
“late stage capitalism”…on T shirts in the city
LOL
“Laughing” Arjan? Really?!? In NYC, there a lot of young kids (ie. college age, 20s) making their statement with T’s. Go to the Village, NYU campus, Washington Sq. Park and you will see what I mean.
I want to know what is being theorized and projected for the US future, if (more like when) late stage capitalism causes a huge collapse in the US. May not be that far away when these huge cuts to healthcare and subsidies start to take effect (the big beautiful bill indeed).
But they voted for it:

Do they make the t shirts themselves or do they buy it as merch? Because if that’s merch, it’s actually an example of late stage capitalism.
“Buy our t shirts which spread your (popular political message famous from tiktok and instagram)”
Late-stage capitalism is from Marx’s writings, one more thing he accurately predicted.
Unfortunately, he was more successful in analysing the state of things and predicting how they got worse than in predicting a way out of this fucking mess.
Just to make it clear, I don’t criticize them for wearing those t shirts. If that is part of how they want to spread their message or live for their cause. But if you want to fight capitalism, you have to do more than wearing a shirt.
I mean, sure, but the problem with capitalism’s ability to co-opt and integrate criticism is there isn’t much you can really do, is there? There’s activism, sure, but the only way to achieve actual change would be through a major political movement, and anti-capitalist parties have become more and more irrelevant in the last years.
I’m not sure it’s a good thing to be that involved in politics. But there are things one can do if one wants to. Talk groups, political parties, do some kind of mutual aid stuff, go to protests, even join Antifa or something. (Although I think many of them are tankie wankers)
Or write your own manifesto about how the earthly paradise will be established. ;)
It’s been 30 degrees in the North of Finland for like 2 weeks. That’s where Santaclaus lives!

This is good. Entire Arab League condemns Hamas and tells it to disarm.
Someone even Fox News calls crazy is now DC’s top prosecutor. Where is the bottom?
Where is the bottom?
There isn’t one. American society has given their worst people free license to be as terrible as they want.
Whoopsie:
Same is true for the Netherlands. We’re all so demoralized that we don’t give a shit about this country, like I said, it’s not really a country, it’s an economic zone where we are getting brainwashed with ethnic self hate. Interesting how that backfires.
it’s not really a country, it’s an economic zone where we are getting brainwashed with ethnic self hate.
For someone who claims to dislike the far right, you sure do uncritically repeat their talking points a lot.
The funniest thing is that Putin uses “diversity is our strength” rhetoric and paints Germans as the nazis.
They want to redistrict targeting black areas for more voting control and prevent the likes of a Jasmine Crockett from getting into office
We’re permafucked. All our leaders are complete imbeciles, or traitors.
We’re permafucked. All our leaders are complete imbeciles, or traitors.
Hey, it’s not my fault. I didn’t vote for his party!
(I voted for one of his coalition partners, that are supposed to be liberal, but are mostly just retarded, so it probably is my fault after all.)
This is what the Texas redistricting would look like. And now Vance wants a similar plan for Indiana:
All for the midterms really.
The Trump Republican Party: If you can’t beat the Dems fairly, change the rules!!
You can drop the Trump, and this’d still be accurate.
She had him dead to rights. If he didn’t win the election. Now he is using being POTUS to get even:
Wilders has posted something on twitter that is compared to nazi propaganda, its this picture showing a face in two parts, the left a young pretty blond woman, the right an angry looking older woman with darker skin and a headscarf, a stereotypical scary Muslim image. He compares the left image to a vote for his party, and the right image to a vote for the left wing PvdA.
Terrible but I think these tricks make it less likely he’ll end up in government again after the October election. There was a near total condemnation from other political parties, and I believe at least part of the people who voted for him last time are getting tired of him.
I mean yes all politicians suck, but there are different levels. I would be glad if Wilders fucked off, other parties in charge would be better.
They filmed themselves shooting water pistols at Orthodox Jews. Hope they go to jail for a long time.
Wikipedia could reduce UK users as it loses legal challenge against online safety legislation
Wikipedia’s operator has lost a legal challenge to parts of Britain’s Online Safety Act, which it says will drastically reduce the number of users who can access the site.
…
The foundation said if it was subject to so-called Category 1 duties – which would require Wikipedia’s users and contributors’ identities to be verified – it would need to drastically reduce the number of users who can access the site.
Judge Jeremy Johnson dismissed its case but said the Wikimedia Foundation could bring a further challenge if regulator Ofcom “(impermissibly) concludes that Wikipedia is a Category 1 service”.
He added that his decision “does not give Ofcom and the Secretary of State a green light to implement a regime that would significantly impede Wikipedia’s operations”.
The Wikimedia Foundation said the ruling “does not provide the immediate legal protections for Wikipedia that we hoped for”but welcomed the court’s comments emphasising what it said was “the responsibility of Ofcom and the UK government to ensure Wikipedia is protected”.
All our leaders are complete imbeciles, or traitors.
This comment that I made was over the top…I do think some politicians mean well, but some of those are misguided. (And yes I do think some are probably traitors, but not that many of them.)
Apparently Ghislaine Maxwell is now free to leave the low security prison she is in for work purposes, similar to the lenient way Epstein was treated when he was in prison.

Aaron Bastani is a China bootlicker. Didn’t realize that. Guess it’s the same with him as with Varoufakis.
AfD was the biggest party in opinion polls in Germany recently, with 24 % of the people saying they’d vote for them. That is scary, but still 24 % is very far from a majority and no other party is willing to make a coalition with them. However the current government needs to step up to make sure they don’t grow larger.
I think the far right in Europe is roughly divided in two, with parties AfD, Konfederacija in Poland and some other smaller parties being the hard far right, close to actual nazis, and parties like Le Pen in France and Meloni in Italy somewhat softer and willing to work with EU institutions. Wilders I think is part of the latter, although his obsession with Islam surpasses other members of that group.
The first group, the hard far right, is also more likely to spread Jew hatred. Like Baudet, the leader of the Dutch FvD who said “all my friends are anti-semites.” The other group, the softer far right, at least pretends not to hate Jews, talking about “judeo-christian values” and their freindship with Israel. Wilders and Orban are probably the biggest supporters of Netanyahu in Europe.

This is the main thing going on in Europe I believe. Ever increasing control. I believe this started with covid, with contact tracing etc.
I think they’re looking at China and they like what they see.
MSNBC Host Says Karoline Leavitt Looked ‘Ashen’ After Putin Meeting
I could make a rather off-color joke about the true nature of Trump and Putin’s relationship, but at this point, it’s just low-hanging fruit.

That’s the problem. Merz and the CDU’s campaign was built on populist stop-immigration nonsense. They made promises that are impossible to deliver, both because a lot of it’d be illegal and insanely expensive and because migration isn’t really the problem responsible for people feeling like they’re losing everything, it’s just the scapegoat. And because the CDU built this up and are now failing to deliver “solutions”, the AfD will keep rising in the numbers. Which will lead to more coalitions made up of parties who are just too different to do anything beyond preserving the status quo, which will lead to more votes for the AfD which will lead to larger and larger unstable coalitions which will…
I have no idea whether this circle can be broken at this point. It’s more likely that we’ll have a CDU-AfD (or even AfD-CDU) government sooner rather than later.
Honestly I don’t believe any mainstream politician wants to solve migration. They may say that to get votes. But they want migrants to do shitty jobs for low pay.
Zelenskyy comes with backup:

But there is no need for the US to worry. The majority voted for a former host of a reality TV show, his secretary of defense was the host of the weekend edition of “Fox and Friends” and even the former CEO of WWE as secretary of education. In good hands, eh?
If he is doing all these WH redecorations, sending armies to cities, wanting to take control of more and more, he is getting more invested into the position than just a four year 2nd term. And… he’s not leaving without a fight. Look at Jan 6th.

Nicole Collier:
She is doing her part to prevent this redistricting plan.
The October election might swing to the left, but it’s very close. I believe the most likely outcome is a centrist cabinet including the conservative liberals VVD, christian democratic CDA, labor PvdA and left wing liberal D66. If the left does very well, they can go without the VVD and with support of some more smaller left wing parties like Volt and the socialist SP.
One thing I’m afraid of is a high profile terrorist attack before the election which would, besides being terrible in itself, give Wilders a boost.
While I’m somewhat happy the left might be moving closer to power here, I think it’s telling that in most countries the electorate swings from right to left, and back again, constantly. Voters are so dissatisfied almost no one stays in power for more than one term. (Macron with his two terms being the exception, but even he is incredibly impopular, it’s just that a lot of people thought the alternative was even worse)
There isn’t a single politician who can give people what they want.
While I’m somewhat happy the left might be moving closer to power here, I think it’s telling that in most countries the electorate swings from right to left, and back again, constantly. Voters are so dissatisfied almost no one stays in power for more than one term.
14 years of the Tories says different.
Two centre-right parties with only minor differences in policy have held power for almost the entire history of the Republic of Ireland.
Honestly I don’t believe any mainstream politician wants to solve migration. They may say that to get votes. But they want migrants to do shitty jobs for low pay.
Yeah, and simple truth is that while those jobs should be better-paid, we need people to do, you know, stand at counters, drive buses, collect the trash and so on. These are important jobs, but they’ll never be especially well-paid, and migrants are the most likely people we can find for that.
And we also need highly-trained mmigrants, and a lot of them because, guess what? (Speaking for Germany here:) Our entire country is going to collapse because we have to many old people retiring and nobody’s there to fill the gaps. It’s already a big problem, and it’s going to turn into a huge one in ten years. So what our government should be doing is making Germany an attractive country to migrate to, not the fucking opposite. But even the regular, “normal” conservatives are so blinded by the arrogant assumption that Germans can’t be the fucking problem, it has to be Jonny Foreigner and that things can only get better if there are less brown people around.
The funny thing about that is we kept being told reproducing is bad for the environment, and now it is oh we need more workers, bring in the foreigners. I think a lot of what we’re being told is bullshit, frankly.
Also wasn’t automation going to take away jobs?

They were in power for a long time, but then it swung to labor and now reform is ahead.
There are exceptions, but I think it’s a trend that incumbents are very impopular and often lose power. I think this happened in the US with the switch to Biden and back again to Trump, Germany, Poland, France to an extent with Macron’s impopularity, Italy, the Netherlands obviously, the UK more recently, Sweden, Finland, even in Japan the liberals lost a lot of votes…there are exceptions, Ireland like Lorcan mentioned, Denmark, and Hungary, although in Hungary now Orban may be the next to lose power.

So your theory is now that electorates always swing from one party to another, but the periods for which these parties hold power can last for an unspecified length of time, both long and short? That’s just describing how multi-party systems work.
I think it’s telling that few governments have remained popular in the period between 2020 and now.
It would be interesting to check what democratic governments currently have an approval rating higher than 50 %.
The funny thing about that is we kept being told reproducing is bad for the environment
It is. But not reproducing is bad for upholding our standard of living. It’s a matter of perspective.
Also wasn’t automation going to take away jobs?
It has. But capitalism can’t allow people to work less and still live good lives. Because that’d be terrible.
I think a lot of what we’re being told is bullshit, frankly.
Always depends on who’s doing the telling. When it’s the capitalist discourse, then yep, mostly bullshit.
I think it’s telling that few governments have remained popular in the period between 2020 and now.
Honestly, I have no idea how any government is supposed to be popular right now. We are much closer to the crisis point in the climate catastrophe, and everybody knows it, but the changes we would realistically have to go through to enable our future are so hard to take that the moment any government tries to put anything real into effect, people will turn on them for doing it. But if they don’t, people will turn on them for doing nothing and destroying the future.
Democracy is at its limits here.
Honestly I’m fine if they do something about the climate, but if it leads to worse living standards for poor people that’s unacceptable. Then it’s time to burn everything down.
https://www.politico.com/news/2025/08/20/newsom-harris-2028-california-poll-00515722
It’s very early for this but I hope Newsom wins the primaries. I think he has a better chance to win when going against Vance than Harris or AOC.
How to feel better about getting older, see a picture of Stephan Miller.
Reading about that interview that Maxwell had with the DOJ guy and it’s fucking insane. Seriously.
An asylum seeker was arrested for rape and murder of a 17 year old. He’s also suspected of a few other rapes. Wilders will profit from this.
Hah…after the Wilders party left and the fall of the government a few months back, the cabinet was so-called “demissionary”, a caretaker government until the next election…but now one of the parties that remained in the demissionary cabinet has left as well, over the Gaza policies. The first time this has happened in the history of the country. It’s mostly symbolic since a demissionary cabinet doesn’t rely on a majority in parliament so they can remain in power if one of the parties leaves, but still…it’s kind of amusing.
Honestly I’m fine if they do something about the climate, but if it leads to worse living standards for poor people that’s unacceptable. Then it’s time to burn everything down.
There’s the rub, isn’t it? Currently it seems the only way the electorate is ready to accept tightening belts is if it hits mostly the poor and the marginalised. I mean, why would you think about taking away somebody’s eightth yacht? What monster would even consider such a thing?
Honestly I’m fine if they do something about the climate, but if it leads to worse living standards for poor people that’s unacceptable. Then it’s time to burn everything down.
The problem is if we do nothing, everyone dies.
People were mocking Rutte because he was sucking up to Trump around the NATO summit, but I think Trump has shifted a bit in his attitude to Ukraine and Zelensky since that summit. Rutte can be an unpleasant neo-lib but he is probably one of the smarter politicians.
His attitude on Israel sucked though.
There’s nothing to be done on the climate, that’s pie-in-the-sky. And not doing anything will likely see those in poor housing more hit by both overheating and freezing.
edit: sorry, this response was meant for todd’s post
I’m not saying don’t do anything, if there are good ideas do it, I mean why not. However if it leads to significant impoverishment of the poorest people, then I would be against it. Climate change plans are costly but any solutions should not impinge on things like .food availability or housing for the poor, those are ultimately the reasons why you do anything, those basic questions of livability should be the first concern. Why save the world if it leads to billions ending up with nothing?
If we’re only going to save the world for the rich people alone, perhaps it should burn. Yes the poor will die too, but at least Peter Thiel dies too.
What I’m getting at Arjan is we can’t currently reverse the climate damage, the only card on that front is slowing and reducing it. But, in parallel with that, things need to be done to retrofit housing to the changed climate. That includes temperatures in both directions and it’ll likely be the poor, in the most unsuitable housing, who suffer most.
However, don’t confuse climate change with disaster capitalism, because that will, by design, leave people with very little.
The other factor in this is right-wing and far right crap-stirring. Last year it was 15-minute cities, this year it’s net zero and renewable energy. There’s the likes of Liz Truss going on about farm land being lost to solar panels. The reality is you can do both on the same land, the finite pie line being sold doesn’t stand up to rational scrutiny. Then again, why would it? It’s an emotional argument and nothing more.
The reality is you can do both on the same land
Thanks that’s interesting, I didn’t know that.
I googled it and found this nice page: https://www.greenpeace.org.uk/news/farming-and-solar-panels-can-work-together-heres-the-proof/
I am not that blackpilled about climate change. Yes there will be some climate change but I am not sure yet that it will be catastrophic. But it is best to minimize it.
Yes there IS climate change but I am not sure yet that it IS catastrophic.
Fixed that for you, Arjan. Climate change isn’t something that may or may not happen in the future. It is here now, it is already having catastrophic results, and I’m stunned that people are still denying it.
Well I grant it to you that you’re right about that and I’m wrong, people do die from climate change so that is catastrophic. But it’s not like human extinction is happening yet, as some end times prophets like Paul Ehrlich had predicted.
Climate change does cause local food shortages but overall food production is actually increasing. So people dying from malnutrition when a harvest fails is also a distribution problem; if we could more efficiently bring food from places that have bountiful harvests to those regions where there is a shortage, those people wouldn’t die. But I agree climate change could fuck up food production if it gets much worse.
People dying from heat stress seems also something that is cultural. There are people living in the desert in Saudi Arabia but people in Europe die when the temperature is above 30 degrees for a few days. That can be prevented by changing your habits when you go outside, airconditioning, making sure you drink enough, etc.
There were lots of failed predictions from the science world when it comes to climate change, and a lot of it is doomerism.
Places design for their habitat, which includes a temperature range. Problem for the UK is most of its housing is based on a range from 40 years ago, which did not extend to plus 30 degrees. In contrast, Saudi designs for a higher level of heat, but they’re also seeing higher temperatures beyond what they allow for.
Death by heatwave isn’t cultural, as last year’s Hajj demonstrated. Above or below certain temperatures, things don’t go well for humans. Climate change heightens the chances of those extremes occuring.
The effects of climate change have negatively impacted the wine industry in France and southern Europe over the last few years, and now drought-fed wildfires are threatening the vineyards of Northern California and Oregon. If we end up having to drink South African or Australian wines, I would call that a major catastrophe!!
Boomers in the Netherlands are losing their mind about the internets. The Christian Democratic party wants to completely ban internet anonymity
Bluesky left certain US states that wants to apply such rules. I think this could really screw up the internet. I have already been thinking for a while this is something rulers want to do. The internet is far too chaotic for them.
It’s an issue with multiple sides because you could also say the government uses it to spy on us and keep us in check. But I believe they are scared of the levels of communication among their subjects. A truly controlled population has to have their means of communication curtailed. Things like amazon and netflix will of course not be hurt by this. Instead of communicating among ourselves we are to be fed input through a narrow pipeline.
There were lots of failed predictions from the science world when it comes to climate change, and a lot of it is doomerism.
There are also a great many things that have happened as predicted or even faster. The glaciers are almost gone, as is the Great Barrier Reef, the yearly rise in temperatures is pretty impressive and the sea levels are rising.
That not everything has developed exactly as predicted is to be expected, but in general, the predictions have been depressingly accurate.
Ultimately, it doesn’t much matter if a negative prediction doesn’t pan out, as nothing is going to be done purely for it. Switching to renewables has multiple gains, not just improved environment and climate from no open mines and slag heaps.

Now the opposition wants to send off the remaining ministers. It isn’t obvious who would be governing the country in such a case. There’s a chance we could have a huge crisis between now and the next elections.
We are governed by people who let’s say it diplomatically just aren’t very good at what they do.
I think unironically there’s a good chance even after the election there won’t be a normal government because the parties can’t decide on a common agenda. There are just too many disagreements, with the way opinions are currently divided about Israel and Gaza and some other issues it will be very hard for a group that has 50 % or more in parliament to form a governing cabinet. We may be getting a kind of undemocratic caretaker government, I think Italy had something like that a few years ago under Mario Draghi.
Quite a long and interesting list:
He still thinks all this is his reality show where he can fire whoever he wants.
———-
I mentioned before about some complaining about Obama and Harris not being at any forefront resistance movement to the current situation. Thing is they aren’t going to put themselves in the MAGA crosshairs line of fire and “take one for the team”, neither are poc going to the marches now to be pushed to the front and used as human shields and buffers.
But now, there are more asking about the old guard too and not just Dems like the Clintons, Gore, etc. but old GOP leaders like Bush, Romney, Liz Cheney, etc. And why isn’t the Kennedy clan reigning in RFK Jr.? But what can they do? A snarky soundbites war on social media? It is painful to see it all collapse and bleed but if that is how people get the point, to let them see what they got themselves into when they voted for him. When/If this regime is over, it will take decades to “undo” the damage.
I posted a pic about fixing the education system so that we won’t have people so ignorant and vote someone like that again. The Daily Show had reporters interviewing at MAGA rallies and…. Then again, it’s more than ignorance. Some voted knowing that it would f people over, but they are upset that it all backfired on them. So it’s ignorance, voting to be vindictive, voting to spite other communities…
He still thinks all this is his reality show where he can fire whoever he wants.
Well, isn’t it? I don’t see anybody stopping him.
Climate change? Oh yeah, definitely happening:

Summer 2025 was the hottest UK summer on record.
Thing is, we’ve been taught by popular culture to expect an apocalypse to be both instant and dramatic. Climate change is neither, which aids those who want to dismiss or deny it.
After reading about Kier Starmer’s claims that he loves flags and has a St. George’s Cross in his flat, I’ve come to the belief that after he dies they’ll discover that he was literally born without a spine and was held upright by a particularly rigid column of ambrosia devon custard.

I remember reading an anecdote once about boiling frogs; if you put the frog in a pot of room-temperature water and slowly boil the water, the frog won’t realize that it’s getting cooked until it’s too late to do anything.

Someone needs to tell him that he’s never winning over the flag-shaggers, it’s never going to happen.

Given that Labour were elected almost entirely on a platform of We’re Not The Tories, it’s baffling that now they’re in government they seem to think that they have to try and be some kind of shit Tory tribute act.

The logical conclusion is that this is what Starmer’s Labour wants to be. They lied to the party membership, they lied to the public, they purged the party of just about anyone with principals and this is what you get.
He still thinks all this is his reality show where he can fire whoever he wants.
Well, isn’t it? I don’t see anybody stopping him.
That’s most likely because they are his enablers. They may not like him (There is video of Cruz, Vance, and other GOP really badmouthing him saying he is a narcissist, doesn’t know what he is doing etc.), but he has the ear of the GOP voters that they never had. They can’t go against him either. They are compromised. (Almost like Stepford wives.)
There is a video here (scroll back to a few days after the election) of a similar situation that happened in Poland where the conservative party controlled all the major government branches. It became a regime, and the US is in one now.
I hope the Dems are strategizing but I doubt it. Some complain about Dem leadership and my main thing is voter mentality. It’s not that it is a stupid country with ignorant/uneducated voters, but look at the sociology of it all, voter behavior and mentality. What if voters weren’t so wishy washy/fickle in 2016? Look at how different SCOTUS would have been. And I won’t rehash the voting out of tradition, voting for spite, to be vindictive. It is all painful and upsetting.
New Green leader Polanski vows to ‘replace’ Starmer’s Labour
Zack Polanski has been elected leader of the Green Party of England and Wales by a landslide, signalling a clear shift to the left for the party.
The London Assembly member beat Green MPs Adrian Ramsay and Ellie Chowns, who were standing on a joint ticket, by 20,411 votes to 3,705.
In his victory speech, Polanski promised to build a “green left” to take on Labour, telling Sir Keir Starmer’s party: “We are here to replace you.”
His election potentially opens the door to cooperation with the new left-wing party being set up by former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn and ex-Labour MP Zarah Sultana.
Polanski, a former actor who was the party’s deputy leader, campaigned on an “eco-populism” platform and has promised to make the party “bolder” and more radical in its approach.
In his victory speech, he said: “If you’re feeling hopeless, if you’re feeling in despair, if you’re feeling politically homeless, there is a political home for you.
“And I promise you, nothing will make you feel more inspired, more ready to get out there and more like we can turn our country around than joining the Green Party.”
and yet:
Question to Zach Polanski at the leadership announcement: “Q: How can you take on Nigel Farage when your policy on immigration is so different?” Everything wrong with British politics and media summed up so succinctly in a single absolutely unhinged question.

It’s infuriating that both Starmer and Cooper are bowing down, trying to win over a racist, psychopath minority outnumbered by Park-Runners!

Came across a twitter account who stans for neocon politicians. Posting lots of pics of Bush, Rumsfeld, etc. I think it’s a gimmick and probably not serious. It made me think how Trump is probably at least partially a reaction to the failures of that era of politics.
