Nah, what’s wanted is a Democrat who isn’t going “let’s be reasonable about this” while the Republicans are applying an industrial sander to their private parts

So go try and be unreasonable, see how well that works.

Lefties and democrats lose because they have stupid bullshit agendas, not because they’re not guillotining enough people.

  • #125223

Heh. Well, it’s a good tourist attraction move if nothing else.

Y’know it occurs to me that, as the world is turning more and more into a William Gibson novel, what we’re missing is the good kind of eccentric billionaire to even things out a little. Who’d have thought that that aspect would be the most unrealistic in all of his sci-fi stuff?

Tell me how the fabled US bi-partisanship works with the current incarnation of the Republican party. It doesn’t.

“We have to work with these people”. Not when you’re voting their legislation through you don’t.

Oh, and the only ones going on about beheadings is you and Christian.

Talking about any kind of left in US politics is also hilarious, as there isn’t one. Your US voter choice is right-of-centre versus far right, and enough of them want far right.

Oh hey, can we take a minute to applaud the Democrats for allowing Trump to successfully attack them from the Left?  Bra-vo, you fucking useless wastes of carbon.

  • #125249

Now Lorcan they have to be reasonable about all this, careful and meticulous… hey wait, how did being all that work for that other guy, whatsername?

This is insane, I get the logic, can see why it is warranted, but still insane that it is needed:

Yeah, I can totally see why he’s done it. It does possibly set a dangerous precedent, but given the corruption Trump is prone to, I don’t think that’s really a consideration worth giving weight to – he doesn’t need precedent to abuse Presidential power. This comment at the end is interesting though.

“The pardons are actually great news. No one who was just pardoned will be able to refuse to testify in a civil, criminal, or congressional proceeding based upon the 5th Amendment,” Binnall wrote.

Today is a hard day for me, as I imagine it is for many Americans. But there’s a reason it’s difficult for me.

This January 20th would have been my maternal grandmother’s 102nd birthday. Nana was one of the people who protested Trump’s discriminatory housing policies. She knew he and Trump were bigots. Now on this day, where we also celebrate one of the greatest civil rights leaders in history, this demagogue is about to take the highest office in the land for a second time. And I can’t help but hear a rustling sound. And that rustling is my Nana rolling in her grave.

Biden just commuted Leonard Peltier’s sentence. Like, good, but why not do this 4 years ago?  Or fucking decades ago?

There’s the protagonist’s former boyfriend in Agency. But yeah, fair enough, it’s more that there are billoinaire characters whose interests sometimes align with the protagonists for a bit.

I could write a long response here, but I’ll simply say that anyone who thinks there is no difference between a Harris and Trump presidency is 100% wrong.

This! I don’t know how people didn’t vote for the Dems knowing that Trump stood for everything they hate. A two party system is a lesser or greater of two evils. That’s it. “I don’t like Harris’ LGBTQ stance”. Fine. This is your vote and you can use it any way you want. Her stance was bullshit. But now you have Trump. His is not better.

    Day one:

Trump rolls back trans and gender-identity rights and takes aim at DEI

Donald Trump issued an executive order rescinding two orders that Biden signed on his first day in office four years ago, one advancing racial equity for under-served communities and another combating discrimination based on gender identity or sexual orientation.

One executive order, called “Defending Women from Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government”, instructs the federal government to remove “all radical gender ideology guidance, communication, policies, and forms”.

“As of today, it will henceforth be the official policy of the United States government that there are only two genders, male and female,” the president said during his inaugural address.

The order directs the secretaries of state and homeland security to ensure that passports, visas and other official government documents reflect male and female as the only two sexes. Agencies will also be prohibited from promoting gender transition, and prisons will be instructed not to use taxpayer funds for gender transition services.

“Agencies will cease pretending that men can be women and women can be men when enforcing laws that protect against sex discrimination,” the order states.

Why did prisons do gender transition services? (With taxpayer money?)

Doesn’t that sound the slightest bit ridiculous? I’m glad Trump stopped this. Yes he’s a cunt, yes trans people are valid, bla bla bla But you can go too far with this stuff.

edit: I’m against this executive order. It is insensitive towards trans gender people, but yeah, the prison thing strikes me as bizarre.

Honestly looking back at this, this kid should have been in a closed psychiatric facility long before this tragedy happened.

Because trans rights are human rights and you can’t deny medical aid to someone just because they’ve committed a crime.

    Yes, what Martin said.

They undergo a battery of psych tests from professionals to get that result. It’s not the person “acting out” or “having a mood swing” or whatever bullshit non-believers would have you think.
They find out who the person really is and (should) act accordingly.

On Day One Trump has taken away human rights, and this is only the first domino.
We are all in for one fuck of a stormy ride.

Could maybe, maybe please, the Democrats get their shit together?
    Just a thought…

This is going viral and for good reason:

Rev. Mariann Edgar Budde to Trump: “I ask you to have mercy upon the people in our country who are scared now. There are gay, lesbian, and transgender people in Democratic, Republican, and independent families, some who fear for their lives … and the vast majority of immigrants are not criminals”

When Obama and later on Biden took office, they held back for a time before signing executive orders.

But yesterday, it was like a book signing. So many executive orders signed.

    Why couldn’t Dems do that?
