I was going to post this in Random Comics-Related Stuff but I am enjoying the Frank Miller-discourse is far too much to risk derailing it.
Erik Larsen tweeted this image, with this caption;
“Comparing Jack Kirby’s pencils to Vinnie Colletta’s inks. In nearly every panel Colletta has simplified backgrounds and eliminated secondary characters.”Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but in my humility-out-the-window-fueled opinion Kirby’s art has been damn near butchered by those inks.

Yeah, Colletta has a bad reputation for this very reason. I think the truth is that editors liked him because he was quick and could turn an issue around rapidly; but that was because he cut corners – simplified the art, sometimes eliminated background characters and details entirely, and so on.
There is some work of his that’s better than this early Marvel output though. I seem to remember him doing a decent job on some of the Fourth World issues where he inked Kirby’s pencils. And I’ve seen other early non-superhero stuff from him that’s really quite nice.
I think he has suffered in the eyes of comics fans because he did the quick-and-dirty job he was asked to do at the time, with nobody realising back then how celebrated Kirby’s art would become in the decades ahead.

Left of the bar is when the film was made, right is when it’s set

So the 2001 bar is wrong then. It’s mainly set in 2001 and 2002.
