‘This isn’t a paranoid future nightmare’: the explosive return of Chris Morris
Looking forward to this. Four Lions seems like a long time ago now.
Yeah. The trailer looks a bit like a Refn version of a fantasy movie. Could be very good. I haven’t seen anything by the director except for Pete’s Dragon, which is… well, different in tone, being a Disney movie and all. But that one was very competently made, at least.
A Ghost Story is great, and The Old Man and the Gun is very good too. Pete’s Dragon is by far the best of the Disney live-action films I’ve seen, but I’ve never seen the original.
A Ghost Story is great. Works best if you watch without prior knowledge.
It’s a lingering, liminal experience with very subtle performances. I’m hesitant to use the word haunting, but it is.
Lowery reminds me of Malick.
The Iron Mask | Official Trailer | Signature Entertainment
The Iron Mask sees action legends Jackie Chan and Arnold Schwarzenegger team up in a high concept fantasyhistorical epic featuring breath-taking fights and stunning visuals. Set in the 18th century, The Iron Mask follows English traveller Jonathan Green as he journeys from Russia to China encountering dragons, black magic wizardry and a dragon king during an incredible but deadly adventure. The action adventure also stars Charles Dance, Jason Flemyng and Rutger Hauer.
Signature Entertainment presents The Iron Mask at UK Cinemas and on Digital 10th April, 2020
Not really great trailer, but i might go to see it only because Jackie Chan and Arnold Schwarzenegger are together in the screen. (they’ve been met before in Around the World in 80 Days tho), it’ll be turn out to be bad film, but i’d have fun with it.

You also get the feeling though that Chan and Schwarzenegger will be on-screen for like five minutes at the start, and then it’s the story of the other guy and the little kid.
It also feels like one of those Chinese kid-friendly action movies, with Schwarzenegger included to appeal to Western audiences.
…huh. Russo-Chinese, apparently, and also a secret sequel to a Russian movie.
It’s the tower!
It looks hilariously dopey. It does not appear to be historically accurate.
Disney to re-rebooting 20th Century Fox’s Planet of the Apes series (x)
Disney/Fox planning on reboot the franchise and Wes Ball will write and direct the new Planet of the Apes with Daniel Dorrance, David Starke and Joe Hartwick Jr set to produce the film.
Sources say that the reboot film will be unlikely connected to the previous Planet of the Apes trilogy (2011 – 2017) that was done under 20th Century Fox. DiscussingFilm’s prediction is it will reboot the original 1968 Planet of the Apes film based on a novel by Pierre Boulle. The film is targeting to begin filming later this year, which likely will mean a 2022 release date.

No thanks, the previous three PoTA reboot films were so perfect that no need necessarily to push the reset button the entire trilogy, but in Disney’s (and in case Fox’s) mind, they had to make some extra $$$.
but in Disney’s (and in case Fox’s) mind, they had to make some extra $$$.
This will always be true. Always. Not just for Disney, they’re just more up front about it.
But in this case, I think they’re going too fast. Planet of the Apes isn’t a superhero franchise that can be recast and rebooted after a couple of years. It needs to wind down a bit IMO.
They’d be better off doing a limited series for Disney+.
Still, a lot of these announcements result in nothing but some people paying their bills with the development money.
I wont be surprised if Ball leaves after a couple of years, followed by a succession of other filmmakers, and it really is 10 or even 15 years before the next version of Apes actually hits the big screen.
no need necessarily to push the reset button the entire trilogy,
Yes I tend to agree. The 3 movies they made were essentially as setup for the stuff we saw in the original movies and TV show.
You can take a different approach without rebooting it, just by doing a time jump.

Okay the good news is that reporter is a full of crap, the franchise will indeed continue set after the events of War for the Planet of the Apes following “Caesar’s legacy”.
It’s never been easier for film journalists to actually get in touch with the actual people who actually know… but maybe it’s the point to NOT fact-check these days?
Regardless. Don’t worry. I won’t ruin the surprises, but it’s safe to say Caesar’s legacy will continue…🤫

Has anyone heard of this? Looks like a Russian super-hero movie, but I don’t know if it’s a real thing or just a spoof trailer (though really high production values for a spoof).
IMDB has a page for it, including movie quotes and reviews, so I’m going to assume it is legit:
During the Cold War, an organization called “Patriot” created a super-hero squad, which includes members of multiple Soviet republics. For years, the heroes had to hide their identities, but in hard times they must show themselves again.

The Personal History of David Copperfield | Official Trailer | Fox Searchlight Pictures
THE PERSONAL HISTORY OF DAVID COPPERFIELD re-imagines Charles Dickens’ classic ode to grit and perseverance through the comedic lens of its award-winning filmmakers— giving the Dickensian tale new life for a cosmopolitan age with a diverse ensemble cast of stage and screen actors from across the world. Emmy® winners and Oscar® nominees Armando Iannucci (IN THE LOOP, THE DEATH OF STALIN, HBO’S Veep) and Simon Blackwell (IN THE LOOP, HBO’S Succession) lend their wry, yet heart-filled storytelling style to revisiting Dickens’ iconic hero on his quirky journey from impoverished orphan to burgeoning writer in Victorian England.
In theaters May.
That came out in the UK in January. I really wanted to see it but I fear I may have missed it now.
I watched on either Amazon Prime or Netflix. It was like a cheap version of Avengers. the women were cute. the effects were good. It was a solid B movie.
Glad I wasn’t the only one confused by that!
Putting this in movies, but it goes almost everywhere…

Steven Spielberg no longer to direct Indiana Jones 5, James Mangold takes over his chair (x)
After a long development process, Steven Spielberg is handing the directing reins on Indiana Jones 5 to another filmmaker for the first time in the franchise’s 39-year history.
Spielberg will remain as a hands-on producer on Indiana Jones. According to a source close to the filmmaker, the decision to leave the director’s chair was entirely Spielberg’s, in a desire to pass along Indy’s whip to a new generation to bring their perspective to the story.
With a new director coming on board, the possibility that Indiana Jones. will be pushed once more from its 2021 release date seems likely. Spokespeople for Spielberg and Disney declined to comment.

I feel like at this point i won’t see another Indiana Jones, the fourth film is closest thing that had true happy ending to close the franchise, plus Harrison Ford is getting older, what else needs to be told? (asides Indy’s unlikeable son)
Star Harrison Ford remains on board for the film.
This is the latest creative change for the feature, which was first announced in March 2016 by Disney and Lucasfilm. It was initially given a release date of July 19, 2019, which was pushed back to July 10, 2020.
In June 2018, Jonathan Kasdan, the son of Raiders of the Lost Ark scripter Lawrence Kasdan, was brought on to write a new draft of the feature, delaying the production further and pushing the release to July 9, 2021.
The choice to hand over the reins on Indiana Jones 5 fell to Spielberg. He decided to step down so that the next generation of filmmakers could usher the franchise forward, according to a source close to Spielberg.
Spielberg stepping away could be good for the movie, but it will signal to many that he’s losing confidence in the whole thing.
I feel like at this point i won’t see another Indiana Jones, the forth film is closest thing that had true happy ending to close the franchise
The third one literally had them riding off into the sunset!

Good for him. I’ll believe it when he finally starts shooting.

Candyman Trailer.
Looks pretty neat.
Looks pretty neat.
It does. I don’t know if the world is exactly waiting for a Candyman reboot, but it’d be nice to have a good one introducing the character to a new generation. I hope they keep the romantic angle, too.
For a momen there, I thought Virginia Madsen was in the new one, as well, but it’s just Rebecca Spence looking a wee bit like her.
I was actually thinking about the romance angle too, mainly because there are some heavy Freddy’s Revenge tones in this trailer, and that went all in on that subtext.

Though there does seem to be a direct connection, in that Yahya Abdul-Mateen is playing the baby from the original, with Vanessa Williams coming back to cameo as his mother:
I’ll try to give Peele (even as producer, not director) the benefit of the doubt, but that just looks like a collection of jazzed up kills, whereas the previous film was more than that.
Hopefully this film is better than it’s trailer.
I thought a lot of the race subtext even in the trailer was pretty interesting. I wasn’t as crazy about the CGI bees or the recycled ideas from the other sequels though. I’m definitely interested however.
I wasn’t as crazy about the CGI bees
To be fair, I think the bees weren’t all that great in the original, either?

what do you mean? The bees in the original were real. Tony Todd made an extra $20,000 because of being stung.
Tony Todd made an extra $20,000 because of being stung.
Hah! That’s really neat!
But are you sure they were real in all the scenes? I’m not just talking about the close-ups here. There were a lot of bees in that movie.
Maybe I’m just remembering it wrong.
It’s been a while since I watched it but I’m pretty sure. Probably not in the massive swarming scenes but I do know they used a ton of real bees.
The fact that they’re using cgi bees in the close ups (and the hook also looks like it is often cgi) makes it look cheap and artificial to me. That said I’m far more interested in seeing what they do with the subtext of the film since it seems like they have something to say.
Unemployed actor wants work?
Gotta start earning as her hubby has been cut off from his trust fund.
Unemployed actor wants work?
Which sucks – the best thing about her marrying into the Royal Family was that she was out of the acting game.
(Hated her on Suits, a show I generally enjoyed.)
Well she’s pretty hot… but I haven’t seen her in anything… if she’s as bad as Christian sugests, then sure, she could probably land a role in the CW… xD
I like the Falcon, but damn that movie looks lame as fuck… then again, it’s a kid’s movie, so I’m probably not the inteded audience xD
The films that do come out in the middle of the viral apocalypse are going to be up against far less competition. Even relatively marginal films should over achieve.
That’s assuming people are still going to the cinema in large numbers.
We’ll see.
‘Mulan’, ‘New Mutants’ & ‘Antlers’ Moved By Disney As Coronavirus Grips Release Schedule
New Mutants is cursed.
Wow I can’t believe they’re moving New Mutants yet again… like seriously? Is that movie even worth the bother?
In theory, even if cinema business is down, it should be a good time for Disney+ to launch in Europe.
My local cinema is still open, but only every other seat.
That’s actually a pretty clever idea.
I mean, it’s not enough because they say the virus will travel 12 feet, but it’s a nice idea in theory.
I’m starting to wonder whether New Mutants really exists.
“The New Mutants” is an urban legend studio execs tell to production assistants to scare them.
My local cinema is still open, but only every other seat.
Or they’re hosting a chess tournament.
My local cinema is still open, but only every other seat.
That’s an interesting (if somewhat misguided) solution.
I receive emails from the Houston Cinema Arts Society and they had the following in their latest email:
COVID-19: Movie Recommendations to Survive Social Distancing
We acknowledge the growing concerns and uncertainty facing Houston and the rest of the world due to COVID-19. We will continue to monitor the situation and adjust programming accordingly in line with local and federal guidelines and social distancing recommendations. Given the current environment, the safety of our visitors, patrons, and staff is our top priority.During these times, most of us are turning to streaming movies to pass the time. Our own Michael Robinson curated a list of films he recommends to stream during the next few weeks. Some of them are joyful escapes from the current desperate climate, some are poignant meditations with clear political connections to current events, and others just didn’t get enough love when they first came out.
1. Safe (1995), Dir. Todd Haynes
The most appropriate social isolation film, Safe examines illness and perception in a haunting and horrific way.2. Atlantics (2019), Dir. Mati Diop
Coming from a background of documentaries and experimental films, Diop conjures a ghost love story that feels both rooted and ethereal.3. Honey Boy (2019), Dir. Alma Har’el
Deservingly winning a Special Jury Prize for Vision and Craft at Sundance 2019, Har’el’s fictional take on Shia LaBeouf’s childhood is heartbreaking and beautiful.4. Black Moon (1975), Dir. Louis Malle
A magical castle, an oversized unicorn, and a glass of milk, Black Moon is full of absurdity and enchantment in the time of the apocalypse.5. A Monster with a Thousand Heads (2015), Dir. Rodrigo Plá
After her insurance company refuses to pay medical expenses in order for her husband to survive, Sonia Bonet takes matters into her own hands to get him treatment. A medical drama existing during debilitating insurance policies disguised as a thriller, this film highlights systematic injustices of those who can’t afford treatment.6. American Honey (2016), Dir. Andrea Arnold
While we currently might be in self-isolation, this escapist road trip movie allows you to see outside of your neighborhood and throughout middle America as it follows teenagers dissatisfied with where they live, trying to sell magazines door to door as an escape from their worlds.7. Paddington 2 (2017), Dir. Paul King
Who doesn’t need charm by a friendly bear during times of crisis?8. How to Survive a Plague (2012), Dir. David France
Following the activists of the HIV/AIDS crisis, France’s deeply moving documentary traces the protests from ACT UP and TAG to get the government to address the epidemic.9. It Felt Like Love (2013), Dir. Eliza Hittman
While we await Eliza Hittman’s Berlin and Sundance-winning film, Never Rarely Sometimes Always, catch up on her first feature focusing on a young girl dissecting her obsession with an older boy. Hittman’s films give deep empathy towards the “teen in peril” drama and her first film proves this as well as any of her other films.10. Casting JoBenet (2017), Kitty Green
In what could have been a straightforward “who do we think killed JoBenet?”, Kitty Green investigates the cultural memory of of JoBenet Ramsey and how cultural moments such as these become instilled in us.11. Closed Curtain (2013), Jafar Panahi and Kambuzia Partovi
While living under house arrest from the Iranian government, director Jafar Panahi worked with Kambuzia Partovi to film an existential and meditative film almost entirely set in a home. Unlike his previous movie, This is Not a Film, Closed Curtain shows the viewer that while making films against a government ban can be exciting in rebellion, it is also lonely and depressing state to continue to make art in.
Paddington 1 + Paddington 2.
Sorted.
Alternatively: Adaptation + Moon Before Sunrise.
If you feel the need to wallow in all the nihilistic: Ragnarok
3. Honey Boy (2019), Dir. Alma Har’el Deservingly winning a Special Jury Prize for Vision and Craft at Sundance 2019, Har’el’s fictional take on Shia LaBeouf’s childhood is heartbreaking and beautiful.
Huh. How have I not heard about this one?
Trailer looks great.

Reminds me a little of the trailer for the fine art thriller, Velvet Buzzsaw.

Matt and Ben and Ridley Scoot oh my.

This here pandemic won’t help Ben’s recovery much. Isolation. Distance. Liquor stores “essential” and open. If there are any Anonymous meetings, they’re usually virtual. No services. Deliveries. Liquor stores deliver. (So do pizza places, thank God, as I justone, and the rations have been short.) Extra hard to stay sober in these times. Reminds me of 30 Days of Night.
The Mystery Ink gang are hired by a town in Scotland who complain they’re being plagued by monsters but we discover throughout the film the monsters are actually the victims & Scooby & Shaggy have to come to terms with their own prejudices & narrow belief systems. (Yes, Really!)

Bad news for AMC Theaters in the US: Standard & Poor Global gave it a ratings downgrade, which could put them in deep financial distress if the theaters can’t reopen soon.
Maybe Gunn can retool that storyline for Guardians of the Galaxy 3, with Rocket and Quill in the Scooby and Shaggy roles.
Maybe not.
Dear Lord, that was a fine idea in principle, but I fear it would’ve been very difficult to deliver on the premise.
People like their monsters to be monstrous.
Misunderstood monsters matter though, so I would’ve hoped it worked.

I really think that S&P shouldn’t be adjusting ratings of any company’s rating at this time. Too many companies are being impacted by COVID-19.
But then they wouldn’t be able to show how medical companies are outperforming the rest of the planet. Unless they leave everybody else’s rating as is and invent a new tier, Super-Dooper-Pharma+++ for every company who’s drugs are promoted by D. Trump esq.
And who Trump has a stake in.
Netflix Inks First-Look Deal With ‘Mouse Guard’ Comic Book Publisher BOOM! Studios
Netflix has struck a first-look deal with BOOM! Studios, the comic book publisher behind franchises including Lumberjanes, Something is Killing the Children, Once & Future, and Mouse Guard.
The deal covers live-action and animated series and comes after the streamer began worked with BOOM! on a feature adaptation of The Unsound with Shazam! director David F. Sandberg in 2019.
Great timing for Boom, just as they hit a cashflow crisis in comics comes a cheque from Netflix.
