‘This isn’t a paranoid future nightmare’: the explosive return of Chris Morris
Looking forward to this. Four Lions seems like a long time ago now.
I guess you’ve never heard of Halloween.
What’s that?
I love the Harryhausen Sinbad movies, but I haven’t really connected with any of the TV shows or films that have been made since;
.
‘Sinbad’ Remake Obtains Financing (EXCLUSIVE)
.
No details on casting. The director isn’t a big name, but he wrote the screenplay so I hope it’s a fun take on the charatcer and story.
Cue arguments about whether you should cast actors with the right coloured boots…
I guess you’ve never heard of Halloween.
What’s that?
It’s a holiday at the end of October.
It’s the reason pumpkin farmers can pay their bills.
not the only reason.
The event has been moved. Is this anywhere your old neck of the worlds, @Ronnie ?

This is getting good press. It’s very much an indie movie, and perhaps a bit overwrought, but leaving the hype aside it looks like it should be a good film;
.

Nah, that’s in Rantoul which is in Central Illinois, ~3+ hours from my hometown. There’s an old closed down US military base there and is the town where Avatar Press is based out of though.
That’s a well-cut trailer. I’ve also finally noticed that this isn’t directed by Michael Bay.
I am almost tempted to watch it.
I can’t see the urgency if it’s not Bay. This is the kind of thing he does best. Loud, flashy, profane, dumb.
.
He can do more, just hasn’t very often.
.
But an action movie shot like a commercial is his wheel house.
I can’t see the urgency if it’s not Bay. This is the kind of thing he does best. Loud, flashy, profane, dumb.
It’s just my experience that I don’t care for his movies, wheelhouse or not.
I suspect this will be a Bay film in all but name. I could be wrong of course.

The Color Out Of Space is probably one of the best Lovecraft stories to translate to film, because you don’t have to worry about how to show things that are indescribable and unknowable. And this looks remarkably faithful to the story, although shown from a different point of view.
.
Plus, who wouldn’t want to see Nic Cage giving a typically restrained performance as a man slowly going insane?
The people I know who have seen it at LFF liked it, but it’s a loose adaption of the story.
.
A weird, colourful, body horror piece.
.
I’ll give it a go.
Plus, who wouldn’t want to see Nic Cage giving a typically restrained performance as a man slowly going insane?
That was certainly the draw for me and Cage didn’t disappoint. Does he ever?
I want a remake of Twins starring Nic Cage and Nic Cage as the twins.
I want a remake of Adaptation starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito.
The big idea for the new Invisible Man is the same as the last Invisible Man movie (and 100 Feet).
It’s a ghost story, only he’s invisible, not dead. I can see why Blumhouse went for that pitch.
.
‘100 Feet’ is a pretty obscure film, despite Famke Janssen. I’ve never heard of it before this thread, and never seen it, I had to google it.
.
Maybe they’ll sue?
I’ll give it a go.
Yeah, I’m also definitely up for this. Trailer looked pretty good, and it’ll be nice to see a proper Lovecraft movie again.
it’ll be nice to see a proper Lovecraft movie again
.
.
But as I said, I’ll give it a go.

.
.
But as I said, I’ll give it a go.
Well, when I say “proper”, I mean one that’s officially based on one of his stories and contains more than just a nod to his creations. I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a movie that is a proper Lovecraft movie in the other sense.
?
Well, it might qualify. There’s only one way to find out!
Alan Moore is kicking himself for not doing this in Providence.
Lovecraft remains rarely adapted, I think he wrote very little plot and character and far more atmosphere?
.
I think this looks like fun but it’s inspired by the story rather than adapting it.
.
The filmmakers want to follow it up with The Dunwich Horror, and that’s got a lot of potential too, but what will they do with it?
.
Cage is a bit old to play Wilbur but he would make an excellent Old Man Whately, if they want to continue with him as their Star casting?
?
It’s really bad. Painfully unfunny. They had a great title and little else. The best joke is the condom brand is deep ones.
I like the idea of a Scooby Doo origin story, and this seems to handle that part of it really nicely.
.
The problem I have is that Scooby’s voice doesn’t work, and I think that would annoy me too much in the movie.
At least Sonic looks like Sonic now…
That design is so much better. I liked this trailer more too. Looks like it could be quite fun.

Frank Weller has been voicing Scooby doo for a while now. He’s probably the only member of the cast to previously voice a character.
I’ll admit I haven’t watched any modern Scooby Doo, but if that’s the voice people are used to then I guess it was the right choice for the movie. It’s still going to sound wrong to me, though.
.
Wasn’t Frank Weller the original Fred? Or was the Welker?
Ahh I meant to say Welker.
I think he’s played both characters- I looked through his imdb for a bit but it’s looooong.
Ah, ok. That’s pretty cool then.
James Marsden must love doing these movies talking to CGI creatures.

Did he not talk to CGI in Enchanted too?

FANTASY ISLAND – Official Trailer
Blumhouse & Sony are taking us back to Fantasy Island on February 14, 2020 for a bold new vision of the late ’70s-early ’80s TV series, reimagined as a murder-mystery horror film. In Blumhouse’s new spin on Fantasy Island, the enigmatic Mr. Roarke makes the secret dreams of his lucky guests come true at a luxurious but remote tropical resort. But when the fantasies turn into nightmares, the guests have to solve the island’s mystery in order to escape with their lives.
Directed by Jeff Wadlow, Fantasy Island is written by Jeff Wadlow & Chris Roach & Jillian Jacobs and is produced by Jason Blum and Marc Toberoff. In theaters Valentine’s Day.
That design is so much better. I liked this trailer more too. Looks like it could be quite fun.
I don’t know, the whole trailer was just a collection of unconnected “fun” moments that don’t tell you anything about how the movie holds together. It does still look like it’ll be worth the price of admission for watching Carey chew the scenery alone.
.
.
.
Fantasy Island looks surprisingly good, I thought.
Well, they didn’t give away the plot then did they?
.
This version of ‘Fantasy Island’ doesn’t interest me at all. Clearly Blumhouse think it’ll do well or it would be going to streaming, but it’s not intriguing me.
Sonic looks like a fun kids movie. I’ll definitely be taking my son to see this.
Well, they didn’t give away the plot then did they?
I was actually going to say that I wish that I hadn’t seen this trailer because I feel like that’s almost the entire movie, and that it looks bad. They fixed the design but everything else is still a problem. Jim Carrey could be good, but the Sonic scenes still look bad to me.
Well, they didn’t give away the plot then did they?
With Sonic? No they didn’t, but they also didn’t give me anything that’d make me want to watch the movie. A series of flat jokes won’t do it.
The Wild Story of How Mary Steenburgen Wrote the Best Original Movie Song of the Year:
The Wild Story of How Mary Steenburgen Wrote the Best Original Movie Song of the Year
The bizarre odyssey of how Oscar-winning actress Mary Steenburgen came to co-write the euphoric power-ballad that Jessie Buckley performs at the end of “Wild Rose” — easily the year’s best original movie song — began 10 years ago, when the “Melvin and Howard” star woke up after a minor arm surgery feeling like her mind was on fire.
“I felt strange as soon as the anesthesia started to wear off,” Steenburgen said. “The best way I can describe it is that it just felt like my brain was only music, and that everything anybody said to me became musical. All of my thoughts became musical. Every street sign became musical. I couldn’t get my mind into any other mode.”
The worst poster I’ve seen in a while:
You mean because it’s got the words “Michael” and “Bay” on it?
The poster is bad enough but the tagline is really fucking awful.
I’m sure someone worked hard, on multiple versions, and it broke their heart to see this one chosen.
It looks like no-one worked hard on this.
Meet no-one.
Looks like someone doesn’t want to ever work for Disney:
13 Reasons Why’s Christian Navarro Slams Disney for Casting ‘the White Guy’ in The Little Mermaid
Cage, if deals close, would star as actor Nicolas Cage. The character is desperate to get a role in a new Tarantino movie while also dealing with a strained relationship with his teenage daughter. He also occasionally talks to an egotistical 1990s version of himself who rides him for making too many crappy movies and for not being a star anymore.
The Cage character is also under a mountain of debt and finds himself forced to make an appearance at the birthday party of a Mexican billionaire who happens to be a fan of Cage’s work and secretly hopes to show him a script on which he’s been working.

It’s funny how that article draws such close comparisons to Adaptation but doesn’t mention Being John Malkovich. It sounds like a mashup of both.

True. Well, and it does mention JCVD which is probably even closer to what this is going to be.
Yeah, I loved JCVD too.
It sounds like this could be very fun, and I imagine Cage will be game to send himself up.
These days, it’s become kinda hard to imagine something that Cage wouldn’t be up for.
An Oscar?

Sounds great! But do we want Nicolas Cage for the role? The kids love Zac Efron, lets make Zac the lead and Zendaiya the love interest, shes not in the script but shes the daughter of the billionaire. We need to build up her character too, but not too much because the focus really should be Zac. Who do we want for the billionaire? I think it’s basically crying out for, The Rock, right?

Hugh Jackman?
This is a nice interview with Kevin Smith. I’ve never been a particularly huge fan of his stuff, but I’ve always found him likeable personally. He’s pretty honest about his career here.
I’ve listened to a fair few of his podcasts and he just comes across as a self-effacing nice guy. He has somehow, as he says there, made living out of ‘selling Kevin Smith’ without really bigging himself up. It’s rare that someone admits to being promoted above their level of competence.
Yeah, he’s very candid and honest about it and it’s pretty endearing.
His ‘Fatman on Batman’ podcasts might be my favourite stuff that he’s done. He comes across very sincerely on those. I think it helps that he’s a genuine fan first and foremost.
The King’s Man Pushed Back 7 Months and Nimona Delayed 10 Months
—-
The theatrical release of 20th Century Fox’s The King’s Man has been delayed seven months by the studio.
Fox has pushed the third Kingsman film off its February 14, 2020 release date and over to September 18, 2020. In that new date, the Matthew Vaughn-directed film will compete with Paramount’s Without Remorse and an untitled Sony Animation film by by Phil Lord and Chris Miller. This is the second major delay for the film – it was originally scheduled for release this past Friday – November 15, 2019 – but was moved to February in favor of Ford v. Ferrarri.
===
Fox have also delayed Blue Sky Animation’s Nimona animated feature film 10 months – moving the film from March 5, 2021 to January 14, 2022.
This is the second time the film has been rescheduled – back in May, Fox pushed the film off its original February 14, 2020 release date to the March 2021 date.
Who do we want for the billionaire? I think it’s basically crying out for, The Rock, right?
Same answer as always: John Cena as played by Meryl Streep.

Pretty good list. I’ve seen ~90 of the movies, and really liked most of those.
I think I’ve seen about 11 or 12 out of those… so… yeah? =/

Pretty good list. I’ve seen ~90 of the movies, and really liked most of those.
I hit 38, which is not 90 but still pretty good, I think. It’s an odd list but a great resource. There’s a lot of films I’m reminded about (and plenty I hadn’t heard of).
There’s a few I don’t agree with. I know I’m in the minority but U think Once Upon a Time is Tarantinos worst film. I thought Spring breakers wasn’t great. There were a few others.
Well it’s an artsy fartsy movie list… barely any blockbuster, and there’ve been at least a couple good one worth mentioning…
Point is, it’s a specifical kind of list I guess… I’m honestly not all that interested in the majority of those movies… I’m sure they’re good, I just don’t care about that sort of thing.
I don’t think anyone here is going to force you to watch them.
Except maybe Christian.
I’ve only seen two of them, and obviously those two were included by mistake.
I have seen 15 of them.
Studio Exec Suggested Julia Roberts Play Harriet Tubman, ‘Harriet’ Screenwriter Says
.
In a Q&A for “Harriet” studio Focus Features as well as a piece for the L.A. Times, Howard explained he had been working on the script for a Harriet Tubman biopic as far back as 25 years ago, but that “the climate in Hollywood…was very different back then.”
.
According to Howard, a “then-president of a studio sublabel” praised the script and then suggested Roberts play Tubman. “Fortunately, there was a single black person in that studio meeting 25 years ago who told him that Harriet Tubman was a black woman,” Howard wrote in the Times piece. “The president replied, ‘That was so long ago. No one will know that.’”
Yeah, that is tone deaf as hell.

Channing Tatum and ‘IT’ Producer Bringing ’90s Image Comics Series ‘The Maxx’ Back to the Screen (x)
Channing Tatum’s Free Association and Roy Lee’s Vertigo Entertainment are going to The Maxx with their latest project. The partnership is developing the reality-bending superhero saga called The Maxx for a live-action adaptation .
It remains undecided whether the project will be steered toward a feature film or a television series. Producers are Tatum, along with Free Association principals Reid Carolin and Peter Kiernan, plus Lee and his producing partner, Tal Vigderson. Michael Parets is overseeing the project for Free Association.
Will he move onto that when he’s done with Gambit?
Will he move onto that when he’s done with Gambit?
I think he’s been done with Gambit for awhile now…
I do not acknowledge the existence of the above posts.
Tatum feels the same about Gambit.
I feel dirty now.

But also like I should watch ET again. I think the kid’s already seen it with his mum, but maybe he’d be up for a rewatch around Christmas.
I have a strong childhood attachment to ET, and as much as I hate to say it, that ad really worked for me.
