I assume details like that will be addressed in the movie.
I’m not going to avoid watching it due to a plot hole that might not even exist!
I wasn’t interested until Jesse Plemons showed up, and then I was very interested.
As a German, I kinda feel like I should be offended they didn’t cast a German actor for what is clearly a German role. But then again, even him just saying “Hallöchen” was a lot of fun.
I’m sure this will be good family fun. It’s the kind of movie The Rock is reliably great in.
This might be slightly intriguing if not for the fact that it’s a Shyamalan movie. Tired of your shit, M!

I haven’t read the comic it’s “inspired by” in years, but I remember enjoying it:
I didn’t know it was an adaptation. He doesn’t have a great track record with those either.
You know the alien invasion is on Date X and the aliens basically win. Since you have the ability to travel through time, wouldn’t it be logical to go back in time with enough future tech as you can transport to a point where you can train and build up defenses and weapons so that when the aliens do arrive, you are ready for them? You know their basic strategies and weak points so you essentially catch them by surprise. Then its grinding out a victory. And if that doesn’t work, you go back in time again, perhaps further back for even better preparation. This could be the twist you are referring to. Really, there is no strategic value in going back tot he future to fight the aliens. That war is lost.
Yeah, this is something weird. I’d be really suspicious if someone from the future showed up and tried to sell me on that, too. I suppose the easy answer is the paradox situation. If we prevented the invasion, then there would be no reason to discover time travel and send someone back in time. And then we wouldn’t have the tech necessary to stop the invasion and then we’d discover time travel… ad infinitum.
So, it turns out that it is physically impossible to actually change the past from the perspective of the future. Therefore, the people of the future cannot change the past. Time is set up until the moment of the future war.
Which is an interesting philosophical dilemma in that you would know you are living in “the past” and nothing you could do would change what happens. Essentially, it’s a psychological perception such as if a person who believed the Sun orbited the Earth learned that actually the Earth orbits the Sun, they would not necessarily experience day and night any differently from before, but psychologically, it would feel the world had changed.
So, what’s the plan then. If they defeat the aliens, would they then go back and “evacuate” the entire planet’s population from the past into the devastated future. Is that really why there is no one apparently alive on the planet? Rather than being wiped out, they all went to the future? Or least that’s the hope, maybe.

All the rapid aging stories kinda niggle me a bit. Like a girl gets pregnant and has a kid in five hours or a little kid grows into a 20 year old man. I’m always like “where are they getting the calories?” If time suddenly sped up that you could age a year in ten minutes, you wouldn’t get older, you’d die of thirst or starvation.
When Johnny mentioned the movies Oblivion and Live Die Repeat, It made me think Pratt is going to turn into his Generation’s Tom Cruise.
No, he’s not. I’ve never seen his comedy acting, but he’s just too bland as an action star.
Also, he’s probably not crazy enough…
sorry Pratt is older than I thought and Cruise is younger than I thought. i thought there was a good 25 years difference between them.
Surely his generation’s Tom Cruise is Tom Cruise?
Tom Cruise will be every generation’s Tom Cruise from now until the death of the sun.
Tom Cruise is just the guy who makes Mission:Impossible movies these days, interspersed with the odd sci-fi movie. When I was young he did a lot more interesting work, from Rain Man to Born on the Fourth of July.
Not even Tom Cruise is this generation’s Tom Cruise.
When I saw the title, I mistakenly thought it was THE FOREVER WAR which I think would still make a great movie.
I made that mistake too and was really concerned when the trailer bore zero resemblance to the story I remembered. I’d be far more interested in a movie adaptation of The Forever War which i read for the first time earlier in the year.

Obviously you missed 2017’s AMERICAN MADE biopic about Barry Seal

Every generation gets the Tom Cruise it deserves.
Robbie Amell & Stephen Amell To Star In ‘Code 8’ Sequel
Huh. Anybody see the first part?
Huh. Anybody see the first part?
I actually did… it’s a movie about people with superpowers (but not superheros)… it’s, well it’s got the Amell bros starring, so you know it’s not gonna be incredible, but from what I remember the premise was okay, although I don’t remember much of the 2nd half… it’s got something to do with supers being registered, and there’s like a robotic police force that acts like sentinels in a way (only if they break the law) and some social comentary injected in there… so yeah very x-men-y… IIRC, the lesser Amell borther was the main character and he was a supered dude who needs to go into crime for whatever reason even though he’s a nice guy and stuff like that.
Listen, it ain’t the worst movie, but I don’t know if it’s worth watching…
Never heard of the film, never seen the actors in anything. Other than that I’m stoked by this news!
That movie has been pushed at me a bit by, uh, I think it was the amazon prime streaming service.
I first liked Stephen Amell in Arrow and then didn’t so much anymore.
Robbie Amell was great in the Babysitter movies though and I also liked him in “Upload”.
I think Code 8 was one of those random movies that got the pandemic boost last year. I’d never heard of it, but then for a few weeks it was trending all over one of the streaming services. Guess it got enough of an audience there for someone to want to invest more into the property.
Btw Dave, how its going with those first 18 covids?.
the lesser Amell borther
They’re cousins, actually.
Btw Dave, how its going with those first 18 covids?.
You think COVID-19 is the first coronavirus?
You think COVID-19 is the first coronavirus?
Is that what you think I said?
I’m a big Jackfan but this is a confusing trailer that completely failed to sell me on the idea.
Yeah, I like the cast, but that trailer is all over the place.
The writer/director has worked on Burn Notice and Westworld, though, so the movie itself may make it work better than the trailer suggests.
Deep dive into The Rock and James Bond lore. A great watch:
The Untold Story of Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard’s Secret Pact With Nazi Propagandist Leni Riefenstahl
Hubbard and that time period has a lot of interesting stories – enough for several movies and television series – that will rarely get wide distribution outside a few books simply because of the influence and control Scientology still has over his works and public perception.
“We showed the script to screenwriter John Brancato (The Game), who confirmed something we suspected—that it’s written in a style that was already outdated in 1960. He noted that it was very similar to the original movie, except in places where the dialogue makes things more explicit, and said the new version had a distinct lack of nuance. Brancato wondered if this was Hubbard’s contribution, and had something to do with what the Scientology leader had been writing recently.”
It should be pointed out that John Brancato also wrote Catwoman, Terminator 3 and Terminator Salvation as well as a slew of forgettable films and outright flops like Surrogates and The Net. So, an average working screenwriter whose screenplays don’t completely work. Even THE GAME has plenty of story problems that Fincher really irons out.
The ironic thing is that Hubbard’s contribution would not have anything to do with Scientology. It’s basic screenwriting. It’s like a magic trick – unlike real life, most of the dialogue in the best movies is very explicit. GODFATHER, VERTIGO, CITIZEN KANE all the way up to today with any popular or critically acclaimed movie or television show or stage play, the characters are saying exactly what they want and mean in the dialogue but the filmmaking makes it seem natural. It is ironic Hubbard’s contribution to the script was clarity when he was arguably the greatest con man of the 20th century.
Rob Zombie To Helm ‘The Munsters’ For Universal 1440 Entertainment
If “Dragula” doesn’t play once during the movie…
This got a couple of laughs out of me.
Yeah, I did chuckle a few times at this one.
‘Swordfish’ at 20: Here’s the story behind Halle Berry’s $500,000 nude scene in the 2001 action hit
Money well spent!
Not even a nude scene, just a quick topless scene… but hey, good for her, half a mil ain’t nothing to scoff at.
I would not have recognised this as Jessica Chastain!
Channing Tatum on Kravitz’ offer of him as a Tech billionaire
Tatum said he was shocked when Kravitz called with that offer, because he’s not usually offered roles like that
I wonder why? Tatum has always exuded that Tech Genius stereotype to me. HAHAHAHAHAHA rofl
I would not have recognised this as Jessica Chastain!
That looks pretty good.

It’s Ok…
For a while I didn’t recognize the actress who played Pamela Anderson as the same one who was the love interest in “Yesterday”.
Must have been the blonde hair…

It was really more of a compliment towards Chastain’s ability to transform herself.
Lots of info on the new Transformers movie:
The new Transformers movie is called Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. Director Steven Caple Jr. grew up a big Beast Wars fan.

Hmm. I’m somewhere between dubious and cautiously optimistic.
Here is a take on the movie “Karen” coming in the Fall about a white woman terrorizing a black family who just moved in the neighborhood:
Wow

The thing is that these are images on increasingly small screens. When they are moving around and speaking on a big screen, you can tell it’s them under all that junk.
About this Karen movie slated for Fall: There is already a backlash about it on some social media sites after seeing the trailer. The general consensus is that Jordan Peele came out with that “Get Out” movie and since then others have tried to mimic it like this Karen movie, this series on Amazon Prime (“Them”), and a few shows on cable TV, all to make the traumatic black American experiences into commercialized horror.
Copycat is nothing new at all. After Tarantino’s “Pulp Fiction” there was “Get Shorty” the next year and on and on. “Scream” came out and the next year was “I Know What you did last Summer” and those “Final …” movies which were all about young teens being mysteriously killed off one by one. The black teen get killed off first, and the rest is so formulaic.

Well, let’s take a look at that trailer, eh?
Yeah, that looks pretty terrible. It’s biggest problem – apart from just being badly done, of course – seems to me that apart from the cheap horror effects and music, there’s nothing happening that makes it part of the horror genre rather than just a social drama or a crime movie. From everything you can see here, that woman is just a crazy Karen; there’s no fun fantastic element that made Get Out or Us so great.
I’ve got to be honest, when I heard that a movie was called “Karen” I assumed it must be a comedy that deliberately plays on the meme. And it’s weird that the people who named the movie didn’t realise that would be a problem
(Unless, you know, it is actually a comedy, in which case: good job!)

Sure, why not.

That looks good. Still not sold as Henry Golding as SnakeEyes, but Andrew Koji as Storm Shadow is intriguing.
Disciples of the Scorpion was a 1975 British horror movie produced by British Ligoncus Films. It was never released and all but 10 minutes of the film was lost. The surviving footage includes the final scene and end credits, shown here in full.
The film was based on true events that happened in England in 1967 and were hushed up. The last screen of the credits says: “This film is dedicated to the memory of the many who have lost their memory of these events”
The question is, how much of the above is true?

Looks pretty incredible.
Also, it will finally satisfy all those people who have been clamouring for a Moon Knight/Thanos/Aquaman/Drax/MJ/that bloke from Thor/that other bloke from Ant-Man crossover.
I shouldn’t do it, but I’m starting to get proper hype for Dune. September release over here, apparently?
<cautious>It looks better than the last Dune movie.

Hey, let’s not go saying things we can’t take back!

Yep. Same here. That trailer did look incredible.
Seems like they’ve fleshed out the character of Chani and given her more agency, which would be a good thing. I like how this trailer focuses on the different characters.
