What you probably can’t tell from that thoroughly obnoxious trailer:
With the future of the human race at stake, a group of young men and women, bred for intelligence and obedience, embark on an expedition to colonize a distant planet. But when they uncover disturbing secrets about the mission, they defy their training and begin to explore their most primitive natures. As life on the ship descends into chaos, they’re consumed by fear, lust, and the insatiable hunger for power.
So, Lord of the Flies… In Space!
This looks aggressively stupid. What’s the point of setting a car on fire then getting into it exactly..?

Well this looks like absolute garbage…
It’s a Ben Falcone movie, so yeah. He’s the most consistently awful big time director currently working. At least with this and Superintelligence he’s been relegated to streaming-only movies.
I’m not familiar with him, but he’s McCarthy’s husband no? So an even lesser Paul WS Anderson, I reckon… xD
I don’t remember what’s the last McCarthy movie I enjoyed… Spy? Which was by Paul Feig who is also pretty bad, but that one was actually decent.

None of her non-Feig comedies have worked, but she’s great in a dramatic role in Can You Ever Forgive Me?

What are you talking about! They can’t get out the car… because they’re fat! THAT’S comedy!

Yeah, I mean, sure, I could get into a revenge action flick with Michael B. Jordan… but what little dialogue there was in this trailer was just sooooo old and cliché and overly serious at the same time. I’ll rather wait for that Bob Odenkirk one.

SuperIntelligence was very disappointing – similar to Terry Jones’ movie Absolutely Anything (kind of an English comedy version of Bruce Almighty but based on an old H.G. Wells’ story) – not least because she had basically played a similar role twice early in her career in John August’s short film GOD and in his follow up film THE NINES.

Michael B. Jordan-Directed ‘Creed III’ Sets Release Date
So it turns out Richard Stanley, director of Hardware, Dust Devil and Colour Out of Space, is a colossal piece of shit.
He started his career being caught plagiarising and it seems has gone downhill from there.
Jesus, that’s horrifying. I still want to see Colour of Space, but this should be the end of his carreer.
I am sure that is a very good movie, but the person who made that trailer should be shot.

Netflix pay $450M for two Knives Out sequels:

I loved Knives Out, so I’m happy for Johnson, and really hope this still gets a big cinema release. I saw the original three times in the cinema, which I never do.
That’s great news. I liked Knives Out a lot.
Still, that’s a lot of money for two whodunnits.
It’s interesting, not sure how sustainable that model is long term but that’s a great deal for Rian Johnson. You’ve got a budget of roughly $40m to make one, we could round it up to $100m for two. Netflix pay the marketing and distribute so that’s $350m cool profit with zero risk.
I think Netflix will put it in cinemas just so they are eligible for awards but not sure how widely they would release it, they mentioned plans for that and then Covid happened and closed most of the cinemas.
Nope.
Warner Bros. have really got to stop pimping out the Iron Giant at every opportunity.
Can’t wait to see how Micheal Burnham somehow ends up making the winning shot.

Also, The Joker and Barry Lyndon, together at last:
best part of the Space Jam trailer is seeing the Joker hanging out with Barry Lyndon. two classic pieces of IP. i hope they get a spinoff where they go on a road-trip in Fred Flintstone's foot car. they can drive to my house and shoot me in the head. the movies are back. pic.twitter.com/IkMHvnCgMf

Well that was terrible. I wish they hadn’t used so much of the trailer to show the horribly boring backstory of how the game happens. Also, even in the little bits of dialogue you can already see that LeBron James really can’t act. And the only bit that made me smile was Yosemite Sam shooting Daffy.
I do hope it’ll be fun for kids.
Yosemite Sam shooting Daffy.
I do hope it’ll be fun for kids.
Only if there’s lots of blood.
That looked really good, even if the trailer shows more than it really needs to.
Casting of the antagonists is a bit like TV’s best of, too, with Aidan Gillen and Jon Bernthal.
And while watching, I was wondering, when did I see Jolie the last time? Seemed like a really long time ago and turns out that, yeah, apart from voice work and kung fu panda and the Malificent movies (which I haven’t seen), she only made one movie in the last ten years: By the Sea (which I also haven’t seen and had forgotten about, but I will try and remember to watch it at some point). The last movies she made before that were The Tourist and Salt in 2010, so yeah, that was a really long time ago.
Anyway, it’s good to have her back (in a non-Disney movie). And I like Tayler Sheridan’s stuff, so I’ll be looking forward to this.
Netflix making live-action Gundam movie with Kong: Skull Island director
Netflix and Legendary are developing a live-action movie based on the Gundam franchise, with director Jordan Vogt-Roberts (Kong: Skull Island) and comic book writer Brian K. Vaughan (Saga, Y: The Last Man) on board to adapt. Netflix announced the project Monday, but said that the story for the live-action Gundam film is being kept under wraps.
Ugh. I love BKV, but Vogt-Roberts is a piece of shit.
Well the Kong movie was for sure one of the best “giant beast” type of movies, so he should be a good fit for a mech movie…

I loved one of the announcements said it was Legendary’s first-ever live-action Gundam movie. Which is a great way to tell the absolute truth while hoping nobody looks up G-Saviour.

Technically, a video game movie!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Werewolves_Within
Actually, it’s been a party game for as long as I can remember. In America, at least. I think in Europe, it is better known as Mafia.
I was just posting on another thread that the video game AMONG US is essentially MAFIA on a space station.
Yeah, I love Werewolves as a party game. Don’t know the video game, but the movie looks really good either way. Love the font.
Dutch from Killjoys to be next movie Red Sonja. Gail Simone as story advisor. No link but go to Gail’s Twitter
Ummm.
I know the “wrong colour boots” thing is a touchy subject, but when the character’s defining feature is literally the colour of her hair…
Yes, yes, I am aware hair dye exists. But it’s going to look weird.
I know the “wrong colour boots” thing is a touchy subject, but when the character’s defining feature is literally the colour of her hair…
Eh. They might re-interpret the reason for the “red”. (Like, bathed in blood or something.)
Anyway, I think she’s a great choice for this role. Very actress for action stuff, and she’s got the charisma to carry the lead of this kind of show.
She’s a great actor and I’d be happy to see her in almost any role, she deserves a lead in something big.
But this one just sounds wrong to me.
It’s not common, but red hair is a natural colour for black people. Maybe not as dark as Red Sonja’s usually is, but that’s true for most white skinned redheads too. So I don’t think it’ll be an issue.
Dune won’t be day-and-date on HBO Max:
Notably, Jason Kilar, who spearheaded the day-and-date thing, is basically gone from Warners. The Discovery deal was apparently done behind his back.

Well, that didn’t take long for someone to bow down…
This is probably great news for Netflix all in all, but still, I guess we’ll see if that deal goes through and what becomes of that whole mess… They should start my rebranding HBOmax to something better like Warner something…
But also… time to #restorethesnyderverse =P
That shit’ll pick up now lol…

It sounds like nobody over there is clear on what’s happening with Kilar on the way out, but still currently in charge.
It’s interesting, a friend of mine worked out that the annual subscriber revenue for Disney+ is $828m a year in the US and Canada.
Take off 50% for the cinemas and in 2019 just their top 6 movies made over $1.5bn.
So they’ll expect growth of course but it seems a long way off that streaming can match theatre revenue.
The thing to measure with day and date, when all cinemas are open, is how much it cannibalises the box office. Will people stay away of it just moves up the date when Todd and his ‘wait for cable’ crew watch it?

I think there are movies that people will simply want to see on the big screen. I know I would prefer to see the Marvel films in theaters. There are others, like Godzilla vs Kong, I watched on HBOMax as it was something I was curious about but not enough to spend money in a theater on. I’ll watch Dune at home but not in theaters. I want to go see Black Widow at the movies.
I think some movies that would have normally struggled in theatrical release may get more views on a streaming service.
I think there’s that but also the bit that interests me is how day and date release could influence that.
I know some who just prefer to watch everything at home, I prefer to watch films in the cinema now more than ever as I get way to distracted at home. There are many scenarios – in 2013 when the BBC released Doctor Who 50th anniversary specials in cinemas they got into the UK top 10. Even though it was free to watch on free to air BBC1 at the same time they wanted the social gathering and event.
It’s been hard to measure so far because stuff like WW84 did have cinema takings but a lot of them were still closed or people wary if going.

Wary because of the pandemic or because it was a big ol’ pile of shit?
The pandemic, to be fair the trailer was really good so I don’t think many were wary on opening weekend at least.

I do too for the most part, day and date only means I get to watch them sooner… so that’s all it changes for me… but I’m not naive, I realize it probably raises the piracy numbers, yeah… specially when it’s not a worldwide release. As a general rule of thumb though, if you’re planning to watch something in the cinema, you will… if you ain’t, day and date doesn’t change anything.
I know only one thing, and that is that I’ll be watching Dune in a cinema on opening week.
Bit lazy casting, innit?
ya, but they did not say which role or whether it would be a completely new role. He could be any of the top three. Geralt is a Kurgan, Cavill has played a fair amount of dandies so that would be Ramirez, and Supes could be McLeod
Yeah, I was kind of assuming McLeod. And he’d be fine for that. But you’re right, I’d be way more interested to see him as Kurgan.
Gird your loins my people.

Old news…
Synopsis for Sonic the Hedgehog 2?
I only watched about half of that, because it felt like it was spelling out way too much of the plot, but it looks like it could be fun.
It does look a lot of fun.
I am kind of guessing there isn’t a huge amount of plot there to spoil. They may surprise us all but it looks the kind of thing that will work based on the action and the charisma of the cast.

Rule #1 of modern blockbuster movie promotion – don’t piss off China.
It’s a sensitive area, my old company’s website was designed in the US and they had a page with a list of country pages. They put a flag next to Taiwan which caused holy uproar because that offended China who don’t recognise a Taiwanese flag. We’d get it removed ASAP and then every bloody update they did for years it would appear again.
Terrence Stamp! I wasn’t sure he was still alive (he is, although 2 of the cast of that film have died since making it).
Trailer is great, looking forward to it.
Terrence Stamp!
I genuinely wasn’t sure it was him. Thought they might have found a convincing lookalike to add that authentic 60’s feel. Mainly because I also thought he was dead…
I confess I saw what looked like him, had some of the same thoughts, and went to the IMDB to make sure.
It’s cool that all the older roles seem to have been cast with genuine 60s London icons like Stamp and Rigg.
Neat trailer. I’ll definitely be in the theatre for this.
I quite like the look of The Tomorrow War. I don’t love Pratt as a leading man but looks like a decent enough action movie with some big setpieces and a solid supporting cast.
Having said that my threshold for whether I’ll watch a movie is a lot lower for something on a streaming service that I’ll automatically get for “free” as part of the overall package, like Amazon. I don’t think it’s one I would have paid to see at the cinema.
I’m more with Steve; there is nothing about Tomorrow War that looks remotely interesting to me. There does seem to be a lot of shooting and talk about his daughter though.
I think it was Samuel Johnson who said it best: “when a man is tired of sci-fi time-travel epic-destruction alien-battling war disaster movies, he is tired of life.”
I think it was Samuel L. Jackson who said it best: “when a motherf**kin’ man is tired of motherf**kin’ sci-fi time-travel epic-destruction alien-battling war disaster movies, he is tired of motherf**kin’ life.”
I wasn’t interested until Jesse Plemons showed up, and then I was very interested.

Kinda reminds me of the premise of that Tom Cruise movie OBLIVION. These films due sorta all run together in the memory though.
From the trailer, the only interesting element is that I got a little inclination that Pratt actually is in some kind of LIVE.DIE.REPEAT loop and there is a twist that he’s actually already gone to the future and come back and this time he has a different plan. However, I think I might be projecting that onto it.
However, it would be interesting if there are several versions of the hero operating simultaneously with different timeline experiences. It’s complex but sorta like the movie TRIANGLE or the time travel in PRISONER OF AZKABAN (or a little like INCEPTION).

I’m hoping it’s better than it looks, given the director previously did the incredibly fun LEGO Batman movie, but my expectations get lower with every new piece of information about it.
When I saw the title, I mistakenly thought it was THE FOREVER WAR which I think would still make a great movie.
Wasn’t there going to be an adaptation of Scalzi’s OLD MAN’S WAR?
There are a lot of things I’d be more interested in seeing. Tomorrow War seems like a combination of Immortality Inc. (Freejack movie) and All You Need Is Kill (Live.Die.Repeat).

The whole premise is wonky.
You know the alien invasion is on Date X and the aliens basically win. Since you have the ability to travel through time, wouldn’t it be logical to go back in time with enough future tech as you can transport to a point where you can train and build up defenses and weapons so that when the aliens do arrive, you are ready for them? You know their basic strategies and weak points so you essentially catch them by surprise. Then its grinding out a victory. And if that doesn’t work, you go back in time again, perhaps further back for even better preparation. This could be the twist you are referring to. Really, there is no strategic value in going back tot he future to fight the aliens. That war is lost.
Honestly, unless I hear it is surprisingly great, I won’t watch it.
