I know it’s probably gonna be shit, but I’m still kinda pumped for it… I really liked both 1st movies (Godzilla 2 was pretty shit though)…

Godzilla vs Kong trailer apparently drops today so we should get a better idea of whether it looks any good pretty soon.

Edit: watched the clip after posting. Didn’t realise it was a trailer for the trailer / save the date video.

If you slow-mo the bit where Rebecca Hall has to say “Kong bows to no-one,” you can actually watch her die inside.

    Hard pass.

No way should King Kong vs Godzilla be anything remotely resembling a fair fight. Godzilla’s several hundred feet taller than Kong and has atomic breath.

1 user thanked author for this post.
  • #51873

They look abou the same size… they did point out that kong was still a kid or something like that (in his movie), so I’m assuming  he’s grown in size (although to be fair, it looks like they reduced gozilla’s size). And yeah sure, godzilla’s got atomic breath… but kong’s got thumbs =P

Anyways, I watched it without sound… it didn’t look horrible… I’m guessing all the human cringy dialogue will change that…

It’s not as though Godzilla’s height is consistent so that’s a bit of a weird hang up.

That’d work much better with the new footage, since kong also has a shiny spear to kill godzilla… So I guess we can look forward to that…

Nevermind… the internet provides… or well, close enough I guess (really needs a shot of kong with the spear):

Invincible live-action movie will exist separate from Amazon’s animated series

It does feel a bit like the window for Invincible has passed by a little bit. Hopefully, the animated series will generate some heat, but I think it will probably end up like THE TICK. A good series that just didn’t have much steam… and was really demolished by a great series in THE BOYS.

I dunno, I’ve always found Invincible to be similar to Dragon Ball Z, sooo it might find a good audience… problem is it takes time to get going, so we’ll see… I still think a live action one would’ve been a better idea, but I understand why they didn’t… it’d be waaaay too expensive.

David Cronenberg may be returning to horror with his next film: Viggo Mortensen Teases Upcoming Horror Project That’ll Bring David Cronenberg “Back to His Origins”! – Bloody Disgusting (bloody-disgusting.com)

Viggo’s quote is less explicit about it being horror than the headline makes it sound but still, the fact that it’s an early project Cronenberg is returning to does suggest horror.

1 user thanked author for this post.
  • #53045

Cronenberg + Viggo hasn’t failed me so far. Both A History of Violence and Eastern Promises are great films, IMO.

That’s the first Cronenberg film I saw properly, and I liked it very much (still do!). I’d seen Scanners and Dead Zone on TV but I don’t count them with all the cuts. The first time I saw that guy’s head explode was in a gif!

  • #53083

Speaking of a history of violence, there’s an upcoming movie called Nobody with Bob odenkirk that looks bascially like a carbon copy…

  • #53106

Well, you know, the plot of the movie wasn’t hugely original anyways and given the style of the movie, it feels more like they’re ripping off John Wick. But either way, the thing that made History of Violence stand out was Cronenberg’s direction, especially the way the violence in the movie felt.

  • #53143

    they’re ripping off John Wick

It’s from the writer of John Wick, so…

  • #53145

well visually yeah, it does look more like John Wick… but it gave me a serious HoV vibe… so to speak…

  • #53177

It’s from the writer of John Wick, so…

Ah, alright. So repetitiveness rather than ripping someone else off :)

It’s fine though, having Odenkirk in this kind of role is enough of a twist honestly. And it’s not like the concept itself was all that original when History of Violence came out.

Which reminds me, I’ve got to rewatch Long Kiss Goodnight at some point,

  • #53183

  • #53195

That trailer gave away a bit much. Wesley Snipes looks like he’s having tons of fun though.

  • #53198

Yeah maybe, but it looks fun.

I’m now a bit unsure how much will be revisiting the US characters and how much will be back in Africa. From the first trailer I thought a lot of it would be in the US again, but from that second one it looks like the visit to America will be there largely to set up the main story, which will mostly be back in Africa.

No way should King Kong vs Godzilla be anything remotely resembling a fair fight. Godzilla’s several hundred feet taller than Kong and has atomic breath.

Interesting bit of trivia I heard the other day is that Willis O’Brien the animator for the original King Kong movie pitched a sequel called King Kong vs Frankenstein (aka King Kong vs Prometheus) with a giant golem-like Frankenstein monster as the antagonist.
It was never made, of course, but it was sold to Toho along with the rights to use Kong and formed the basis for both King Kong vs Godzilla and Frankenstein conquers the World. I’d actually like to see Toho’s Frankenstein (aka Gargantua) show up in the Godzilla universe. Maybe an experiment to come up with a hominid counter to the monsters.

Another piece of trivia, supposedly giant humanoid or mostly human creatures are referred to “kaijin” in Japanese monster movies rather than Kaiju with Jin being the Japanese term for person.

    Frankenstein

It’s pretty clear by now Whedon is a massive arsehole, the bullying accusations are now added to some very bad sexual misconduct stuff. One account you can dismiss as a ‘falling out’ but he’s building up Weinstein levels of complaints now.

I’ve loved his work, it’s not nice to accept because of that but yeah, Whedon sucks as a person.

Presumably the kind of soft-reboot sequel-but-also-remake approach that’s so popular for big franchises these days. Get new leads in but have the original actors in a cameo or supporting role.

They can call it The Face Awakens.

Christopher Lambert is REALLY old, and his voice is shot to hell… I don’t think he’ll do much acting in the future… he was def. not gonna come back for a kung fu action flick… come on… It’s already great they got him to do voice work for his MK11 skin. That’s as much as people will get of Lambert’s Lord Raiden (and it’s pretty good tbh).

Huh. I wonder who at Netflix thought that zombies were going to be the next big thing at this point. Really has to make you wonder. I predict that this ship is going to sink quickly, not because of Snyder, but because Walking Dead has been doing everything zombie for so long now (and doing it quite well actually) that people haven’t exactly been at the edge of their seats waiting for more zombie content. It’s bad timing to try to start a whole new Romero-esque franchise.

Schweigopher looks like a bargain basement Alan Tudyk.

The trailer spends more than half runtime reminding Snyderversers that their lord and savior is directing this movie. This looks like it was done during that period of time Batista was alienating Studios over his “support” of Gunn. Throw in some violence and military porn along with a “money” shot and some Netflix exec said “genius” and voila!

  • #56709

    1) It’s a teaser. Why shouldn’t they advertise it’s from Snyder, considering Dawn of the Dead??

    2) Actually, Bautista wanted to work with Snyder specifically, so nice try but no dice.

    3) Huh… what were you expecting from a zombie movie? Not that Netflix won’t greenlight absolutely everything, but still… =/

Oh he gives more than his best… the guy is always giving 200%: he always films a tons of extra stuff, the way he markets his movies, the way he’s always in direct contact with fans, specially since the JL fiasco, it’s astounding… then people wonder why he’s got a passionate fanbase.
