New 'Godzilla vs. Kong' footage has been revealed! pic.twitter.com/ZcpfUcFxbM
— Kaiju News Outlet (@KaijuNewsOutlet) January 22, 2021
I know it’s probably gonna be shit, but I’m still kinda pumped for it… I really liked both 1st movies (Godzilla 2 was pretty shit though)…
Godzilla vs Kong trailer apparently drops today so we should get a better idea of whether it looks any good pretty soon.
Edit: watched the clip after posting. Didn’t realise it was a trailer for the trailer / save the date video.
Hard pass.
They look abou the same size… they did point out that kong was still a kid or something like that (in his movie), so I’m assuming he’s grown in size (although to be fair, it looks like they reduced gozilla’s size). And yeah sure, godzilla’s got atomic breath… but kong’s got thumbs =P
Anyways, I watched it without sound… it didn’t look horrible… I’m guessing all the human cringy dialogue will change that…
No way should King Kong vs Godzilla be anything remotely resembling a fair fight. Godzilla’s several hundred feet taller than Kong and has atomic breath.
It’s not as though Godzilla’s height is consistent so that’s a bit of a weird hang up.
Look, we’ve all put on a bit of weight over the years.
Look, we’ve all put on a bit of weight over the years.
Atomic fire breath will do that to you.
That’d work much better with the new footage, since kong also has a shiny spear to kill godzilla… So I guess we can look forward to that…
Nevermind… the internet provides… or well, close enough I guess (really needs a shot of kong with the spear):

Invincible live-action movie will exist separate from Amazon’s animated series
https://ew.com/movies/invincible-movie-live-action-separate-from-amazon-animated-series/
It does feel a bit like the window for Invincible has passed by a little bit. Hopefully, the animated series will generate some heat, but I think it will probably end up like THE TICK. A good series that just didn’t have much steam… and was really demolished by a great series in THE BOYS.

Well, perfect title for a series in that regard.
Just realized I posted this here when I meant to post it in the Television News thread.

I dunno, I’ve always found Invincible to be similar to Dragon Ball Z, sooo it might find a good audience… problem is it takes time to get going, so we’ll see… I still think a live action one would’ve been a better idea, but I understand why they didn’t… it’d be waaaay too expensive.
David Cronenberg may be returning to horror with his next film: Viggo Mortensen Teases Upcoming Horror Project That’ll Bring David Cronenberg “Back to His Origins”! – Bloody Disgusting (bloody-disgusting.com)
Viggo’s quote is less explicit about it being horror than the headline makes it sound but still, the fact that it’s an early project Cronenberg is returning to does suggest horror.
A Dangerous Method is very good too. Eastern Promises is my favorite of their collaborations.
I just caught Eastern Promises recently and while I did think it was great, I have a soft spot for A History of Violence.
That’s the first Cronenberg film I saw properly, and I liked it very much (still do!). I’d seen Scanners and Dead Zone on TV but I don’t count them with all the cuts. The first time I saw that guy’s head explode was in a gif!
Speaking of a history of violence, there’s an upcoming movie called Nobody with Bob odenkirk that looks bascially like a carbon copy…
Well, you know, the plot of the movie wasn’t hugely original anyways and given the style of the movie, it feels more like they’re ripping off John Wick. But either way, the thing that made History of Violence stand out was Cronenberg’s direction, especially the way the violence in the movie felt.
they’re ripping off John Wick
It’s from the writer of John Wick, so…
well visually yeah, it does look more like John Wick… but it gave me a serious HoV vibe… so to speak…
It’s from the writer of John Wick, so…
Ah, alright. So repetitiveness rather than ripping someone else off :)
It’s fine though, having Odenkirk in this kind of role is enough of a twist honestly. And it’s not like the concept itself was all that original when History of Violence came out.
Which reminds me, I’ve got to rewatch Long Kiss Goodnight at some point,
That trailer gave away a bit much. Wesley Snipes looks like he’s having tons of fun though.
Yeah maybe, but it looks fun.
I’m now a bit unsure how much will be revisiting the US characters and how much will be back in Africa. From the first trailer I thought a lot of it would be in the US again, but from that second one it looks like the visit to America will be there largely to set up the main story, which will mostly be back in Africa.

Interesting bit of trivia I heard the other day is that Willis O’Brien the animator for the original King Kong movie pitched a sequel called King Kong vs Frankenstein (aka King Kong vs Prometheus) with a giant golem-like Frankenstein monster as the antagonist.
It was never made, of course, but it was sold to Toho along with the rights to use Kong and formed the basis for both King Kong vs Godzilla and Frankenstein conquers the World. I’d actually like to see Toho’s Frankenstein (aka Gargantua) show up in the Godzilla universe. Maybe an experiment to come up with a hominid counter to the monsters.
Another piece of trivia, supposedly giant humanoid or mostly human creatures are referred to “kaijin” in Japanese monster movies rather than Kaiju with Jin being the Japanese term for person.
This is the correct choice.

Bonus points for the music.
Charisma Carpenter (Cordelia from Buffy TVS) backs Ray Fisher, and gives her account of working with Joss Whedon
It’s pretty clear by now Whedon is a massive arsehole, the bullying accusations are now added to some very bad sexual misconduct stuff. One account you can dismiss as a ‘falling out’ but he’s building up Weinstein levels of complaints now.
I’ve loved his work, it’s not nice to accept because of that but yeah, Whedon sucks as a person.

For the foreseeable future, his career is toast.
‘Face/Off’ Facelift To Be Delivered By ‘Godzilla Vs Kong’ Director Adam Wingard At Paramount
Who was clamoring for a Face/Off remake?
Who was clamoring for a Face/Off remake?
Nicholas Cage?
Because obviously they are going to use the original cast for this, right?
…RIGHT???

Wingard claims it’ll be a direct sequel, but who knows with that means:

I would NEVER re-imagine or remake FACE/OFF. It’s a perfect action movie. Simon Barrett and I are writing a direct SEQUEL! :) :)
Wingard claims it’ll be a direct sequel, but who knows with that means:
Well, as far as I am concerned, it means John Travolta and NICHOLAS FUCKING CAGE!!!

Presumably the kind of soft-reboot sequel-but-also-remake approach that’s so popular for big franchises these days. Get new leads in but have the original actors in a cameo or supporting role.
They can call it The Face Awakens.
This will only work if they update everything else but CGI in the original Nic Cage from the 1997 movie for all of his scenes.
I think they should do a shot-for-shot remake but with Travolta and Cage in the opposite roles.
GENIUS!!

Shut up and take my money!

Luckily that story doesn’t have any content that’s going to be problematic in the 21st century
This whole sequence from Little Shop of Horrors was cut because it didn’t play well with test audiences. And it’s fricking GREAT!
So nice that this sequence finally gets to be appreciated in HD. Major props to the FX people on Little Shop of Horror, they created something that looks just as amazing years later. pic.twitter.com/i41uP43T7C

Looks a bit more like Joker or Harley Quinn than a Disney movie.
They are missing about 99 dogs too.
The fact that Mortal Kombat has a red band trailer is hilarious to me.
The fact that there is another another Mortal Kombat movie is hilarious to me. Not as hilarious as it could be though because it is not starring Christopher Lambert. I mean, what the fuck, man? This is a no-brainer! You make a Mortal Kombat movie, you call Christopher Lambert. So disappointing.
Apart from that, I kinda want to watch this, but I don’t know if I can get my hands on enough drugs these days.

I think he was chosen because he was a relatively big name at the time.
I get the feeling that trailer gave away a smidge to much about what’s going to happen in some of those fights. It doesn’t look worse than the old Mortal Kombat movie at least.
(To quote Lorcan: “Alexa, define damning with faint praise.”)
I think he was chosen because he was a relatively big name at the time.
ARE YOU SAYING CHRISTOPHER LAMBERT IS NOT A BIG NAME ANYMORE???!!!
what’s the point?
I would say employing Christopher Lambert is the fucking point, but they didn’t do that, so…
Christopher Lambert is REALLY old, and his voice is shot to hell… I don’t think he’ll do much acting in the future… he was def. not gonna come back for a kung fu action flick… come on… It’s already great they got him to do voice work for his MK11 skin. That’s as much as people will get of Lambert’s Lord Raiden (and it’s pretty good tbh).
I may not have been entirely serious in the first place, but he actually seems to still be quite busy, including a recurring role on The Blacklist and four movies on his imdb for 2021. They wouldn’t have needed to have him fight, but hey, even then, there’s deepfake and stuff.
They wouldn’t have needed to have him figh
Really? =P
Ah I didn’t know he was still working… good for him.
He should pay a real director to direct it for him.

It looks alright. Wouldn’t get me to the theatres, but I’ll watch it on Netflix.

I am greatly looking forward to him becoming a superstar only so that I get to hear people put his last name through a meatgrinder of mispronounciation.
I don’t know who that is… I’m assuming the blonde german looking dude in the trailer…
I have bad news for Christian though, he’s also getting a prequel series… and he’s probably gonna do some voice overs for the anime prequel as well… Damn, Netflix is really all in for this Snyder-zombie-verse… Not surprised though, they’re about to run out of content, so yeah, they better get that original Netflix content going…
Yeah, going all in on Snyderverses always works out well.
I really liked Dawn of the Dead back in the day, but this just looks like the usual Snyder aesthetic – way too much green-screen and fake-looking CGI.
I don’t know who that is… I’m assuming the blonde german looking dude in the trailer…
Damn the cliché for being true!

Well shit.

Huh. I wonder who at Netflix thought that zombies were going to be the next big thing at this point. Really has to make you wonder. I predict that this ship is going to sink quickly, not because of Snyder, but because Walking Dead has been doing everything zombie for so long now (and doing it quite well actually) that people haven’t exactly been at the edge of their seats waiting for more zombie content. It’s bad timing to try to start a whole new Romero-esque franchise.
Schweigopher looks like a bargain basement Alan Tudyk.
The trailer spends more than half runtime reminding Snyderversers that their lord and savior is directing this movie. This looks like it was done during that period of time Batista was alienating Studios over his “support” of Gunn. Throw in some violence and military porn along with a “money” shot and some Netflix exec said “genius” and voila!
1) It’s a teaser. Why shouldn’t they advertise it’s from Snyder, considering Dawn of the Dead??
2) Actually, Bautista wanted to work with Snyder specifically, so nice try but no dice.
3) Huh… what were you expecting from a zombie movie? Not that Netflix won’t greenlight absolutely everything, but still… =/
Throw in some violence and military porn along with a “money” shot and some Netflix exec said “genius” and voila!
I don’t think it’s fair to imply cynicism. Say about Snyder what you will, but I do think he always takes his work very seriously and gives it his best.
Oh he gives more than his best… the guy is always giving 200%: he always films a tons of extra stuff, the way he markets his movies, the way he’s always in direct contact with fans, specially since the JL fiasco, it’s astounding… then people wonder why he’s got a passionate fanbase. I legit don’t know of any other director like that…
