    I really enjoyed the finale.

They did a far superior job of using time travel (and the quantum realm) than Avengers: Endgame. I liked how everyone got a happy ending. In the last few episodes, I really liked the casting of James Paxton as young John Garrett, which his father Bill played. That was a great touch and tribute.

For me, the show stuck the landing.

I was fully expecting Fitz at the end to be an AI projection or something just to twist the knife one more time, so I was slightly relieved when that didn’t happen.

And I didn’t realise that was Bill Paxton’s son playing Garrett until this episode!  I’d been spending weeks confounded and impressed by his Bill Paxton impression.

    Coming back to New Mutants:

Disney are prepared to move films to streaming when it makes sense to them.

‘Artemis Fowl’ is going to Disney+ and it cost at least as much as ‘New Mutants’ (and has been hanging around for as long).

So, yes, someone figures this is their best business move.

There could be contractual obligations to release it in cinemas too.

There could, but it’s a Fox movie and Disney owns that studio and everything associated with it.

They’re also putting Hamilton on Disney+ and that was meant to have a cinema release first.

‘Hamilton’ Course Change: Disney Sets July 3 Streaming Release For $75 Million Lin-Manuel Miranda Musical

I just saw Bill Sienkiewicz tweeted this in response to queries about why it’s sticking with a cinema release as opposed to Disney+.

So it seems as though this is indeed a contractual issue that’s forcing the cinema release.

I saw this a while back but with Steve more or less vanished from the board the urge for a gentle I told you so moment was diminished.

I am looking forward to this when it comes out.

  • #35984

It wasn’t intended as an I Told You So (I was just speculating before, like everyone else) – just flagging up Bill S’ tweet as the theatrical release question has come up a few times here in conversation, and this seems to settle the reason why.

  • #35990

    I did say “gentle”

  • #35992

    Your faces are right gentlemen.

  • #36015

It’s something that should be considered by the ‘just chuck it on streaming’ advocates. Studios have a relationship with their exhibitors, a partnership that’s sometimes a bit tetchy but generally with the idea they help each other make maximum money.

We’ve seen in the past that they have written agreements on when things can be released for home viewing, the dispute over when Alice In Wonderland could get a UK DVD release being one (they tried to reduce it from 30 days to 20 – eventually the cinemas won the argument and 30 days remains). So the decision may not always be as simple as it appears.

I’d assume too if this is place for New Mutants it definitely is for Tenet.

A Spider-Woman movie is so much more palatable to me then a Madame Webb movie.

And as much as I like the idea of Silver and Black. I would prefer if it was just a movie called “Black-Cat” with the focus on her as the anti-hero and less focus on Silver Sable as the anti-villain.

I know, but he’s a villain in the Miles-verse, he’s not anymore in the 616… still though, he’s already been introduced to a general audience so that should make it easier to market, and I wouldn’t mind if they go with the Miles-verse version either… they can make that work with a redemption story.

Oh and yes, I mean live action.

This is heartbreaking. So young and talented. He was my favorite of the MCU leads. He brought such dignity and wisdom to the role of T’Challa. I’m glad his family was with him at the end but I feel so, so sorry for them. At least he has left quite a legacy behind him. I expect to see a lot of kids in Black Panther costumes this Halloween, and that will make me both sad and happy.

I think they’re lucky that there’s an in-built mechanism that makes it easy to pass the torch to another cast member, and for me there’s a clear frontrunner from the first movie to become the new king of Wakanda.

Well yeah, she’s the obvious choice… but still, they’ll have to deal with T’challa suddenly not being there… although now that I think about it, the could do a meta thing and just adress it directly with an in-memoriam thing at the start of the movie…

  • #37169

I think they should address it at the start of the next movie, with some sort of funeral for T’Challa. Give everyone a chance to say goodbye to that iconic character. No need to recast. Shuri, Okoye, M’Baku et al can carry things as an ensemble. Pivot it away from Black Panther towards Wakanda instead, or have one of them inherit the title if there’s a decent plan for it. They just need a strong villain. If the rumours are true they could fast track Namor and do a Wakanda/Atlantis War movie.

    But, again, fucking sad news.

BP2 is going weird too, watching some stunt performer pull off some action move and then see Chadwick pull off the mask afterwards is going to be surreal. How much is done. Considering Marvel must have known his condition they must have filmed all his scenes.  Do they cut and reshoot scenes to avoid the disbelief of an actor in late stage cancer performing stunts and fight scenes? How do they write in his death?

They haven’t even started shooting BP2.

I’m sure Ryan Coogler knew of Boseman’s condition though and has been writing the script knowing his star wouldn’t be around. Personally, I’d rather Okoye became the next Panther – I prefer Shuri in her Q role.

I watched the first movie this afternoon, and the scenes where T’Challa visits his ancestors in the afterlife were… tough.

Weird my earlier post seems to have disappeared . Boseman was a truly special person. He first played a baseball pioneer than became a pioneer himself. He was a comic book hero yet he was eulogized by sports people like SVP, Charles Barkley, Shaq, and Kenny Smith. I remember as a child when jocks and geeks clashed badly. Now we have a comic book star being honored by sports programs.

But he accomplished so much, and good for him.

Black Panther sits at #13 on the all-time international list with $1.347 Billion

Chad deeply valued his privacy, and I wasn’t privy to the details of his illness. After his family released their statement, I realized that he was living with his illness the entire time I knew him.

I haven’t grieved a loss this acute before. I spent the last year preparing, imagining and writing words for him to say, that we weren’t destined to see. It leaves me broken knowing that I won’t be able to watch another close-up of him in the monitor again or walk up to him and ask for another take.

What’s going on with the next Spider-Man movie anyway?

They got Sam Raimi to direct and Tobey Maguire is rumored to return as Spider-Man. And they’re doing it like some sort of a buddy-movie with Doctor Strange? Doctor Strange and the Spider-Man fight Madness, I think it was called… Speaking of called, I’m calling it now (speculation warning): They’ll do the thing last minute-ish.

Come to think of it, they will probably make the next MCU Spider-Man film so that whatever measure of virginity decency foreign currency innocence Spider-Man is still managing to hold on to with the proportional strength of a confidently misguided teenager at the start of the movie has been lost along the way at the time the third act draws to a close, and we’re left with a Spider-Man that changes his name… To Spider-Boy! And he starts touring the country on his Harley Davidson. He had to sell Aunt Mays apartment to make the thread, but on the road with his 57 year old cougar girlfriend, Spider-Boy have no fucks to spare.

Jon will hate it, so will I. Albeit for different reasons. Tim is back at this point, but he goes by Jim and noone knows and or gives a shit. Al-X will give the movie five/five and say woke shit like “I admit I was wrong to call those types of females creepy in the relationship thread, you guys! I can see it now. They’re just alt-sexy! Just kiddin… OR AM I!? … Just sayin … ”

You’ve seen the signs too, you know I’m right.

Unless they have plans for Doom or Magneto now those are re-integrated you don’t really get a bigger villain.

  • #38245

Twitter is using that info to create Young Avengers buzz. Ant Man 3 has Cassie and Kang(Iron Lad), Hawkeye has Kate and Wandavision may have Billy and Tommy. Empyre also just married Teddy and Billy so it was amusing to see Young Avengers trending.

  • #38247

I doubt they’ll do anything with Iron Lad. He’s an incredibly minor character, and makes little sense if Kang isn’t already an established character. If they’re going to do Young Avengers, it’ll probably be closer to the Gillen/McKelvie team.

That’s Kathryn Hahn (the same actress who shows up later in the witch’s hat) and the popular theory is that she’s playing Agatha Harkness.
