    Ran that through Google Translate:

Here comes an audition for ‘Ms. Marvel ‘that leaked earlier today shows Kamala Khan being interviewed by a Captain (or Captain?).

The dialogue between the characters behind refers to the New Avengers, the terrestrial fog and the Inhumans.

Five More Mystery MCU Movies Given Release Dates!
    .
Deadline has broken the news that amid a slew of new release dates from Disney/Fox the biggest news of all might be the dating of five mystery MCU movies! Here are the dates:
    .
    1) October 7, 2022
    .
    2) February 17, 2023
    .
    3) May 5, 2023
    .
    4) July 28, 2023
    .
    5) November 3, 2023
    .
As of right now Phase 4 in cinemas (outside of the Disney+ series) entails Black Widow, The Eternals, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Untitled Spider-Man sequel and Thor: Love and Thunder. Director Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther 2 is the only Phase 5 film with a release date: May 6, 2022. It should also be noted that 2021 is the first year to have FOUR Marvel Studios films in theaters in one year, and given that it’s now happening again in 2023 we can assume there are still two slots for 2022 that have yet to be announced!
    .
However, there are other films we know are in some phase of pre-production and even have talent attached, including Peyton Reed’s Ant-Man 3, James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Blade starring Mahershala Ali and Deadpool 3 with Ryan Reynolds. A Captain Marvel 2 starring Brie Larson is also a distinct possibility, as are the long awaited MCU reboots of Fantastic Four and X-Men, as well as an inevitable fifth movie in the Avengers team-up franchise.

Five More Mystery MCU Movies Given Release Dates!

  • #6367

Four movies a year sounds like a lot, but then it feels like a long time since the last MCU movie and that was Spider-Man just a handful of months ago. And we’ve had three in the past few years, which worked out well for them.

  • #6413

Four Marvel movies per year means one per quarter. I remember at the old boards discussing a Disney strategy of releasing one Disney group film every month. That is looking more real now.
    .
I just can’t help but to think they may be burning through IP a little too quickly and genuinely creating fatigue for Marvel properties.

  • #6416

Disney+ released some stills from the What If show.

Looks like one of them is Peggy Carter becoming Captain Britain.

    You mean Union Jack.

  • #6417

I just can’t help but to think they may be burning through IP a little too quickly and genuinely creating fatigue for Marvel properties.

I don’t know. They’re obviously seeking to avoid that problem by kicking off a lot of new franchises in the next Phase, and diversifying the line quite a bit. I think that will help to keep it fresh even if we are going to get a few more familiar faces (Thor, Spidey, Ant-Man, GotG) in amongst that too.

  • #6447

    You mean Union Jack.

Well I meant Captain Britain because that’s the logical alternative to Steve becoming Captain America but if they want to go with Union Jack because of the WW2 thing then fair enough.

  • #6451

    You mean Union Jack.

Well I meant Captain Britain because that’s the logical alternative to Steve becoming Captain America but if they want to go with Union Jack because of the WW2 thing then fair enough.

I meant her costume looks more like Union Jack’s.

Three of theirs plus at least one X-Men movie from Fox, which are off the schedule now, so overall it isn’t really much different.

One of the Vue cinemas in town still has huge Dark Phoenix posters on the walls outside. It’s like leaving the house in the morning with toothpaste on your face. Somebody ought to tell them.

  • #6466

One of the Vue cinemas in town still has huge Dark Phoenix posters on the walls outside.

It’s probably because only a select few films produce oversized posters. It’ll probably be waiting for Star Wars or something.
    .
My friend who ran my local cinema in the 80s and 90s put in a huge ’48 sheet’ display (basically the size of a billboard) which was cool but only about 3 or 4 films a year would make them for display, so they were often showing out of date stuff for a good amount of the time.
    .
This Indiana Jones one didn’t actually stay up very long as Batman followed close behind it.

The Fantastic Four Director Knows His Terrible Movie Was Terrible

“Everyone in the film is a great actor, and overall there is a movie in there, somewhere. And that cast deserves to be in THAT movie. Everyone who worked on Fant4stic clearly wanted to be making THAT movie. But…. ultimately… It wasn’t.

“Did I make that movie they deserved to be in? To be honest? I can’t tell.

“What I can tell is there are TWO different movies in one movie competing to be that movie.”

He added: “I was 29 years old, making my 2nd film, in a situation more complicated than anything a 2nd time filmmaker should’ve walked into.

This happens enough that it’s really something they should teach in film school.

The power dynamics of who actually makes the decisions at the end of the day is a vital piece of information and applies to any job, including directing movies.

    Black Widow teaser:

  • #8037

Looks fun, with some dodgy accents :good:

  • #8041

I’m gonna be honest, those costumes (Guardian & Task Master) look kinda shit. Specially disappointed with TM’s one… The movie looks okay, I guess… I do wonder how much it’ll rack, on the one hand it looks like an Antman movie, but on the other hand maybe people ar thristy for more BW after Endgame… it’ll be interesting for sure.

  • #8045

Interesting that after the set pics with William Hurt walking with the stick and looking aged up in this clip he looks de-aged. So we may be seeing flashbacks/forwards.

  • #8058

Looks pretty cool and stylish. I like the Bourne vibe it has for those early fight scenes. And the costumes are nice. Should be a fun movie.

  • #8062

It looks fine. I don’t see it doing a billion dollars worth of fine but it’ll be good, mid-level Marvel hit.

Personally I’d prefer it have more of the ‘Bourne’ and less of the ‘Marvel’ action, but they have probably chosen the right path. Nevermind what I think. #

And with another six months before it’s released we can expect to see more of what they think this should be?

I’m gonna be honest, those costumes (Guardian & Task Master) look kinda shit. Specially disappointed with TM’s one

They’ll probably replace some of them with CG by May.

  • #8063

It’s definitely an Antman movie. But, that isn’t a bad thing. IMO, every solo movie except for the big three (Cap, IM, Thor) could be called an “Antman” movie. . Lowered expectations and lower budget should be the norm of these movies.  We got spoiled by the Avengers movies. Not every movie is going to be that big.

I liked the trailer. Harbour looks like he is going to be a lot of fun for a typical Russian(pessimistic, dour and negative). His costume is supposed to look like shit. Johansson looks like her typical Natasha. the only quibble I have is Nat calling Belova “sister”

  • #8067

Seems like they’re going to be part of an actual family unit, whether blood or chosen is unclear.

  • #8073

Clearly, Harbour was kidnapped by the Russians in Hawkins, Indiana, and turned into a sleeper agent.

  • #8082

I’m gonna be honest, those costumes (Guardian & Task Master) look kinda shit.

I think from that clip though it’s almost certainly intentional for Red Guardian. He’s the only bit of comic relief they showed.

  • #8083

I thought the teaser was just okay. A lot of cliché dialogue and the bits of action didn’t really stand out as anything spectacular. I’ll still see it but I hope it’s better than what was presented here.

  • #8097

I’m gonna be honest, those costumes (Guardian & Task Master) look kinda shit.

I think from that clip though it’s almost certainly intentional for Red Guardian. He’s the only bit of comic relief they showed.

Yeah, absolutely. I thought it worked quite well.

  • #8124

But, that isn’t a bad thing.

Didn’t mean it as a bad thing, I like the Antman movies, but like you said, I meant in terms of budget and revenue.

I think from that clip though it’s almost certainly intentional for Red Guardian. He’s the only bit of comic relief they showed.

Still, that’s supposed to be a Russian costume, I would’ve prefered a little more creativity and make it look different from every other single costume made for every single MCU character… same goes for TM. I’m REALLY over that particular MCU look… for me it’s already gotten as old as those leather X-Men costumes.

Also, speaking of $$$$$, I do hope it gets over a billion, just because it would suck for ScarJo to not do that where Captain Boring did. She deserves better. But then again it’ll depend on wether the movie is not as shitty as CM.

  • #8137

I do hope it gets over a billion, just because it would suck for ScarJo to not do that where Captain Boring did.

The only Cap movie that made that money was Civil War though which was an Avengers movie in disguise. I think $700m or so would be deemed a good success. That’d be Doctor Strange, Winter Soldier and Thor:Ragnarok territory.

  • #8138

I think Jon’s talking about Captain Marvel which did make 1.1 billion worldwide

  • #8145

Yes… Said as much right after… (“CM” = Captain Marvel)

Bad enough that ScarJo didn’t get the “honors” of being the “first” female SH solo movie, it’d kinda suck if her movie doesn’t do as well as CM, because let’s be honest: CM was pretty fuckin’ bad as far as SH movies go, so it’s quite a low bar.

  • #8152

Ah okay. I still think that’s something that benefited from the Avengers connection as part of the build-up to Endgame. $1bn is still a very big step but we’ll see.

  • #8153

Don’t worry, Jons Factually Incorrect anyway.

  • #8157

I think it’s great that the MCU has multiple lead characters who could reasonably be referred to as ‘Captain Boring’.

1 user thanked author for this post.
  • #8158

How dare you slander Don Cheadle

  • #8168

‘Captain Marvel’ was a bad film. A very successful bad film.

I hope this is a very successful good film.

  • #8174

on the other hand maybe people ar thristy for more BW after Endgame…

Have people ever been thirsty for more Black Widow? I don’t think she’s ever been a “breakout” character in the MCU. Whedon gave her two fantastic scenes in Avengers which kind of made people excited about her for two minutes, but everything else she’s done has been as a very unremarkable supporting character. All she had going for her was “token female”, but then Marvel decided to make Carol Danvers their high-profile token female lead, so… honestly. who is really asking for a Black Widow movie at this stage of the game?

  • #8176

    Scarlett Johansen

  • #8179

Short answer (not as short as Tim’s) is that ; yes, there’s been a steady campaign and repeated questions about a solo movie and also how much she has (or hasn’t) featured in the other films, plus the merchandising. It was a talking point around the management of Marvel and the power struggle between Feige and Purlmutter.

The longer answer is that the film will rise or fall despite a campaign. No-one was campaigning for ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ movie.

  • #8180

The Marvel good will hasn’t vanished

Even if this film does half what Captain Marvel did (which it almost certainly will) it’ll be neatly profitable.

  • #8255

Quite dark but i apologise for nothing.

  • #8383

I think the BW trailer looks great. Really looking forward to this one.

    .

I still think they’ll open the door on Natasha returning; if not in this movie, then in the next Avengers.

  • #8403

    #BombaMarvel: NEW look at #WandaVision with a RETRO touch! 😱 # CCXP19

  • #8422

Huh. Well, that evokes the King Vision minisieries, doesn’t it? On the other hand, they’re saying there’s actually a fifties connection? Which might mean that Wanda will be doing actual magic now?

    .

It looks like it’ll be an interesting thing, anyway,

  • #8443

The theory I’ve read is that it’s in her head because she can’t deal with Vision’s death.

  • #8450

I suppose if WandaVision is just a bunch of TV inspired delusions in Wanda’s head it would at least make the dumb title take on a new meaning that’s slightly less dumb? Hopefully they deliver an entertaining product.

  • #8470

<p style=”text-align: left;”>My theory is that this will be our first actual glimpse into the Multiverse.</p>

Wanda will Quantum Leap into a 50s universe to live a life with Vision.  Then, idk,  probably a couple of others. Maybe a western or something. Maybe Arthurian.

By Dr Strange 2 she’ll have superior knowledge of the Multiverse and be the mentor figure for that film.

    You read it here first!

    Bye bye Marvel Television

Marvel Television as we’ve known it the past decade will be no more. With its slate dwindling over the past year and its head Jeph Loeb set to depart, the television-focused division of Marvel Studios will be phased out.

The Marvel TV projects that are currently in production will continue but any further development is being scrapped. As a result, the majority of the unit’s staff are being laid off, sources said.

  • #8718

Other than the last season of shield did they have anything still airing. Both D&G and Runaways are canceled. Is there anything else?

  • #8729

    Farewell, Marvel TV.

Your light burned dimly, and for too long.

  • #8734

Yeah, not a big loss, tbh… besides a couple of decent shows, it was mostly super bland and more often than not quite mediocre.

  • #8736

Other than the last season of shield did they have anything still airing. Both D&G and Runaways are canceled. Is there anything else?

They had a couple of things in the pipeline at Hulu. I think like a Hellstrom show and something else.

  • #8756

Oh that’s right Hellstrom was currently casting. So is that dead?

  • #8759

Isn’t Hulu also doing some Marvel animated series, too?

  • #8768

there will be Marvel Television shows just ones done by Kevin Feige’s  group rather than Loeb’s. Also

Hulu (/ˈhuːluː/) is a U.S.-based subscription video on demand service fully controlled and majority-owned by Walt Disney Direct-to-Consumer & International, a business segment of The Walt Disney Company

  • #8769

The Black Widow trailer looks OK. I like the catfight and captain Ruski.

  • #8772

    Bye bye Marvel Television

Such a shame how it all turned out. The first season of Daredevil and The Punisher are definitely amongst my favourite superhero TV.

  • #8786

I’m not shedding a tear at Loeb being out of Marvel. It makes sense for Marvel Studios to cover the TV stuff as well, given they’re doing sort-of-TV for Disney+. I mean really, they should have been in charge of the TV stuff from the off, but whatevs.

  • #8818

It means that (finally) there will be the kind of connections between the TV shows and the films that the films themselves have explored.

That’s what’s happening with the new shows that have been developed for Disney+. We’ll see if any Hulu shows do the same?

Kumail Nanjiani debuts new ripped body — see his insane transformation

  • #9224

Then read his far more important response about how getting that body is completely unrealistic and very difficult to achieve without the support of a billion dollar company.

  • #9227

That’s not how I read it.  I don’t think he suggests it’s completely unrealistic but just that he didn’t employ the right resources before.  Sounds like he just got a personal trainer before and that’s it.  He’s suggesting here that you need rigurous food-planners and probably several different trainers, which, yeah, that probably is unrealistic unless you’re making all the monies.

  • #9230

I don’t know, quotes like this certainly seem to me to be saying it’s unrealistic for most people:

I would not have been able to do this if I didn’t have a full year with the best trainers and nutritionists paid for by the biggest studio in the world. I’m glad I look like this, but I also understand why I never did before. It would have been impossible without these resources and time.

That sure doesn’t sound like it could be achieved by anyone. Especially when he then goes on to list the many, many people and companies that helped him do it.

  • #9231

    I agree with you

  • #9245

That sure doesn’t sound like it could be achieved by anyone. Especially when he then goes on to list the many, many people and companies that helped him do it.

Either way, that doesn’t seem like an issue Nanijani wanted to talk about anyway. He posted about the specific situation of being cast in a Marvel movie. We can discuss if what he’s doing is realistic once that happens to one of us.

Terry Gilliam on ‘Black Panther’: ‘I Think the People Who Made It Have Never Been to Africa’

  • #9898

Well I’m pretty sure Terry Gilliam has never been to Brazil.

  • #9906

  • #9920

Well I mean, he’s not completely wrong, ain’t he? xD

  • #9932

Well I mean, he’s not completely wrong, ain’t he? xD

    Who, Carnahan or Gilliam?

If you mean Gillian, well, the statement quoted above is very much wrong – Coogler did go to Africa to prepare for filming Black Panther. I also think he is entirely and stupidly wrong about thinking that it is bad to be given a vision of a fantastic Africa to believe in. Gilliam used to understand the idea that believing in a dream is something that will enrich your life and keep you going. Fuck, basically all of his work is based on it. The only problem he seems to have is that he doesn’t want black people to have something like that.

For balance, I think this article pins down very nicely what Black Panther is trying to do (and for the most part achieves):

    https://www.newyorker.com/news/daily-comment/black-panther-and-the-invention-of-africa

Also, I love so much of Gilliam’s work, but given how mediocre The Man Who Killed Don Quixote was, and how annoying he has become as a person, I think I’m probably done with his stuff.

  • #9943

As usual, there’s a bigger interview and this is the clickbait, but the wider story isn’t actually much better. https://www.indiewire.com/2019/12/terry-gilliam-marvel-movies-don-quixote-interview-1202197447/

His big argument is the same as Scorsese’s in that he blames superhero films for sucking up all the available filmmaking money.

Gilliam also argued that superhero tentpoles are drying out any available resources for mid-budget films. “There isn’t room or money for a greater range of films. You make a film for over $150 million or less than $10 [million]. Where’s all this other stuff? It doesn’t exist anymore,” he said.

    So his frustration is coming out as anger, but he’s picking the wrong targets. For example;

“I make films where I’m trying to make people think. I mean, I try to entertain them enough that they don’t fall asleep on me, and they’re there to make you think and look at the world in a different way, hopefully, and consider possibilities. Those films don’t do that.”

That’s absolute bollocks when it comes to ‘Black Panther’. The whole film is based on an ideological argument between the protagonist and the antagonist and the movie spent a lot of time articulating both sides of the argument.

So he hasn’t been paying attention.
