In Endgame, Thanos knew Stark and that surprised Tony. Apparently, Thanos knew him as this tech genius, so Tony’s reputation has gotten around.

Makes me wonder… When the FF finally get introduced and established in the MCU, how will Reed Richards be portrayed? Will he also be this ultra genius that even other planets know about? In the comics, Reed was known and respected by Galactus so… you never know.

Not just Reed Richards as this ultra genius, but also Dr. Doom who was smart enough to develop his own time machine. That would be a little complicated as the TVA from “Loki” would get involved. Then again, the TVA didn’t stop Steve from going back to the 40’s to be with Peggy. (The 40’s are a better era than modern day? Where was his head at? Never mind…)

It will be interesting to see how Reed Richards, Dr. Doom, Galactus, Silver Surfer, Xavier and the Xmen will be presented officially in the MCU…

Sounds like ScarJo will be getting a $40m pay-out coming her way.

I guess she might wind up working with Disney again on other projects but if I wound up with $40m then I’m not doing anything again, ever. Certainly not wearing anything other than pyjamas.

I find Wright’s stance especially upsetting because I can only imagine if Chadwick were still alive, if he’d been lucky enough to beat his cancer, she’d be out there putting him at unnecessary extra risk. And, of course, she’s likely doing that to plenty of other people she’s working with.

Still, I would have hoped losing Boseman would open her eyes to how fragile life is and that we all need to do what we can to protect those around us. Because you never know what people might be going through.

‘Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3’: Will Poulter To Play Adam Warlock In Next Installment Of Marvel Franchise

    aw

After teasing his appearance at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Adam Warlock looks ready to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the next installment of the hit franchise. Sources tell Deadline that Will Poulter has landed the role of Warlock in Marvel’s anticipated sequel. James Gunn is returning to direct, with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige producing.

Like with any Marvel film, details behind the plot are being kept under lock and key. Production is expected to start in November.

The character was first teased in a post-credit scene of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, when Ayesha, played by Elizabeth Debicki, unveils to her chambermaid the perfect Sovereign she has created to help destroy the Guardians once and for all. Ever since that scene, fans have waited patiently to see who would ultimately play that character, with their wishes now granted.

Sources say Gunn and execs began their lengthy search for the person would be playing Warlock at the end of August, with Poulter meeting along with several other actors for the coveted part. As it is common with any major Marvel property, execs and Gunn took their time with the role given how excited fans were when it was first teased. In the end, Poulter’s test was too good to pass up.

Best known for roles in The Revenant and Detroit, Poulter has been busy on the TV front, most recently appearing in the acclaimed Amazon miniseries The Underground Railroad. He next can be seen in Hulu’s limited series Dopesick. He is repped by WME and Hamilton Hodell.

  • #76463

I was convinced we wouldn’t really get Warlock, that it was just an Easter egg for fans.

I hope they give him a strong storyline and don’t just waste him as a Guardians villain. I wait for the Magus casting to be announced…

  • #76473

Well the Magus should be played by that same guy, no?

Also: Ugh, some years ago I would’ve been excited for this, but at this point, fuck no, I’m actually dreading this… I have zero faith that Gunn will do the character justice, and without Thanos… ehhh… I don’t really see the point.

An odd choice of credits to put next to his name, given that he appeared only in one episode of UG, was lowbilled in both Revenant and Detroit, yet was one of the main actors in two of the MAZE RUNNER films and a featured actor in WE’RE THE MILLERS. Guess his publicist wants to emphasize Poulter’s connection to “quality” productions.

The afro was retired since the 80’s or something like that, he had a japanese style pony tail later on, and then he’s had other haircuts. Also, while he might’ve been supposed to have silver skin (not actually sure that’s the case), he’s been depicted as purple for so long that they should go with that. In fact, I’m not even sure if Walrock’s supposed to have shiny golden skin, because he’s never been drawn as being shiny or nothing… I think his skin is just supposed to be an unnatrual orangy tone that gets called “golden”, but isn’t really golden…

Not that surprised by this. It was going to be that between Black Widow and BP2 you had 7 MCU movies within 12 months, and that’s before you even start on the Disney+ TV shows.

To be honest this kind of cynicism around progressive/representation aspects is becoming a bit of a bugbear as far as the MCU is concerned.

Their spin around how progressive they are for having their first black superhero movie (just don’t mention Blade or Hancock or Catwoman) or their first female-led superhero movie (just don’t mention Wonder Woman, Elektra, or Catwoman again – ok, no-one wants to remember Catwoman) is clearly now the model for this latest “first gay superhero” development.

But like you say, they’ve had more than a decade to do this, and in a context where we have already had gay superhero leads on TV (like Batwoman) and gay and bi superheroes in the movies (like Deadpool) it’s a bit rich to try to be seen as taking the lead here.

Especially given that their attempts at representation in this area so far (like that few seconds with an extra in the support-group scene in Endgame or their noncommittal approach to Valkyrie) have been so lacklustre.

What they’re actually doing is being cagey and cautious and seeing which way the wind is blowing before committing. Like people say about Boris Johnson and his policies, it’s like waiting to see which way the crowd is moving and then running to the front shouting “follow me!”.

  • #76974

Oh I did… long time ago. I might’ve skipped some parts though, I can’t recall if I sat through that entire piece of shit.

Also, yeah fuck Disney and their woke bullshit. I’m sure a lot of people in here have issues with the whole “woke” thing, but in their case, it really fits… just bullshit propaganda. And again, Feige should STOP giving interviews.

  • #76976

I’m sure a lot of people in here have issues with the whole “woke” thing, but in their case, it really fits… just bullshit propaganda.

I tend to dislike the term Woke because it implies a sort of sneering at progressive causes in general, which I don’t agree with.

But on the specific point of cynically exploiting progressive causes for corporate purposes, I think Disney are guilty of that. (They’re not the only ones though.)

It’s difficult because I think everyone welcomes this kind of representation in these movies and realises that it is needed. But leaning so heavily on these aspects to market the MCU films feels grubby to me, and to some extent undermines the positive elements, because it makes it so clear that they’re being included for calculated, financial reasons.

6 users thanked author for this post.
  • #77007

Well that’s my point really… this is a case of really transparent cynical virtue signaling, and while it’s true Disney ain’t the only ones, it’s always particularly rich coming from them specifically, given their history (not even talking old history) and whatnot.

What really irks me is that I’m sure there’s a lot of people who actually buy this bullshit and believe BP was the first black superhero movie.

I imagine some of that has a bit to do with the international markets that Marvel depends upon (or depended upon).

China’s media cracks down on ‘effeminate’ styles – BBC News

Even if they did go for an overt homosexual or even bisexual main character, I’m sure it would be in a way that could be edited out overseas.

In China, homosexuality is not illegal but authorities are strict on censorship and edited out gay references in the Oscar winning Freddie Mercury biopic “Bohemian Rhapsody”, though they kept many similar references in the movie “Green Book”. Nudity and sex scenes were also edited out of widely-viewed series such as “Game of Thrones” and the film “The Shape of Water”.

‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ Shuts Down Production While They Wait for Letitia Wright to Recover from Injury

Wakanda Forever had been filming mostly in Atlanta for the last two months. Director Ryan Coogler is said to have shot all footage that his crew is able to without Wright.

Sources say the production is taking the hiatus to reconfigure the shoot to get things back on track for an early 2022 restart. The shutdown is expected to begin the week of Thanksgiving.

“Letitia has been recovering in London since September from injuries sustained on the set of Black Panther 2 and is looking forward to returning to work early 2022,” a representative for Wright said in a statement to THR. “Letitia kindly asks that you keep her in your prayers.”

Obviously, they’re saying she’s recovering from an injury, but I do wonder how much of her choosing to return to the UK is about her refusal to get vaccinated.

Hollywood Studio Projects Get Stricter About COVID-19 Vaccine Mandates

Logistical challenges await for studios that are working with stars who haven’t gotten the shot. Disney’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever star Letitia Wright — who portrays the lead Shuri, the sister of Black Panther T’Challa (the late Chadwick Boseman) — is not vaccinated, sources say. After sustaining an on-set injury in August, the Guyanese-born British actress went home to London.

Now, a return to the U.S. for a possible shoot in Atlanta, where Wakanda Forever is based, could be an issue. On Nov. 8, the CDC implemented rules that require all non-immigrant, non-citizen air travelers to the U.S. be fully vaccinated and provide proof of vaccination status before boarding a plane. Wright is not a U.S. citizen. Disney declined to comment.

Worth remembering that in the immediate aftermath of Boseman’s death there was widespread sentiment that a straight recast would be disrespectful and would not honour Boseman’s legacy with the character. That may have lessened somewhat now but I can totally see why Marvel made the decision they did at the time.

Also, while the MCU has recast characters in the past, they’ve never done it with the lead of a continuing solo film franchise. The closest they’ve come is switching out Ed Norton as Bruce Banner, and that was in a quite different context – he wasn’t heading up a direct sequel, the previous film hadn’t been a huge success, and it was before Avengers showed the franchise scale at which the MCU would operate in future.

So a straight recast of such a well-loved and successful lead actor like this is not something they would take lightly.

Luckily I think the legacy aspect of BP gives them a chance to have their cake and eat it in a sense.

They’ve been filming Black Panther 2 for four months, they’re not just going to throw that all out and go with a script that keeps T’Challa.

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if the script does include a new T’Challa somewhere as a surprise, even just in a post-credits scene.

    Multiverse, baby.

Not only featuring the original voice cast, but supplementing it with “proper” VAs* like Jennifer Hale and Jeff Bennett.

It’ll be interesting to see how it goes – will it stick to adapting characters, concepts and stories that were contemporary to it/already existing or it will it end up throwing in modern things like, say, Vulcan or Hope?

    *as opposed to random celebrities.

Too bad they can’t get the T’challa from What if. Think Peter Quill has issues dealing with Thor on his ship, how bout a Star Lord who is cooler, smarter, stronger, everything more than him?

More importantly: Will they keep those iconic looks/costumes? or will they update them with some generic/boring/bland modern interpretations? That’s the most important thing =P
