The MCU! The Disney+ series! Sony! (For the time being anyway.)
Talk about any and all Marvel movies and TV here.

The colors in that trailer are really muddy, it’s hard to make stuff out. I don’t see Chloe Zhao of The Rider in there anywhere. I guess there’s an attempt at Malickian imagery, which was also true of The Rider, but it’s done really badly here.
Oh so it’s like the Power Rangers, but instead of a cool giant robot they have a giant pizza box… got it… =P
Well that was a trailer I guess… =/
that trailer misses a beat by not mentioning how it’s written and directed by Academy Award winner Chloe Zhao.
I also thought that was a peculiar absence; in fact, there are no acting credits in that trailer either. The only thing they tell us is the release date and the fact (noted twice) that it is a Marvel Studios film.
But that’s okay; November is a long way off, and there’s plenty of time to put together a (much) better trailer to generate more interest prior to the release. I hope.
I didn’t give a Castlemaine XXXX about the Eternals before that trailer and I still don’t. Been a while since there was an MCU movie I could say that about. Hopefully they can surprise me with this one but at the moment I’m quite happy to see it at home at some vague point in the future, maybe. Right after I eventually get around to New Mutants.
Did raise an interesting question: who will lead the Avengers now that Tony and Steve are gone?
Yeah, that trailer doesn’t do much for me either, but then again it’s more of a teaser, isn’t it. I’m sure there will a proper trailer soonish that’ll show us more, and hopefully be more satisfying.
Did raise an interesting question: who will lead the Avengers now that Tony and Steve are gone?
Trevor Slattery.
Technically, Old Man Steve could still be the leader. I don’t think they’ve clarified what happened to him after Endgame. Sam Wilson could also step in as he tries to continue Cap’s legacy.
Right now, however, I don’t think the Avengers exist as a group. They’re all either dead, off Earth or preoccupied with their own situations. Hawkeye is probably still sitting around, waiting by the phone, which is the best place for him. Rather than trying to recreate what they did the first time around I can see them just building up Young Avengers instead. The next generation tries to take up the mantle of the heroes that inspired them. I don’t think that it would be the focal point of everything but I can imagine it heading up the Disney+ side of things, while they give the mutants the big movie push.

Wasp.
Gemma Chan had a sizeable part in Crazy Rich Asians (and a bit part painted blue in Captain Marvel as Martin alludes to). Crazy Rich Asians was a big worldwide hit so she hasn’t quite jumped from the obscurity of a cancelled Channel 4 show to Eternals but having not really led a movie before is why I think the billing is an ‘ensemble’ one.

I think we’re all kinda waiting for Young Avengers, but honestly there’s still enough of the old Avengers around to have a proper team. Even if you’re deducing Thor and Captain Marvel as off-world, there’s Spider-Man, Falcon Cap (who is going to be team leader, obviously), Winter Soldier (who needs a new name), Hulk, Hawkeye, Doc Strange, Ant-Man and The Wasp. Also, they could reintroduce White Vision and Wanda can also still be part of the team.
And that many of them are preoccupied with their own stuff isn’t any different from the comic books; you just assume they make the time when the Avengers call comes.
If they don’t want to do another Avengers movie at the moment, they could even do the whole thing off-screen, just people talking about some crazy shit that went on with the Avengers.
Yeah, there’s always been an element of the different Avengers having their own adventures as well as being involved in the team’s adventures. It just seemed easier to buy into the idea of the Phase 1 team hanging out together, spending time at the headquarters, training together and being more of a tight-knit unit than just occasionally teaming up when needed.
To be honest, having the Avengers team seems a bit redundant when they already have the Guardians of the Galaxy teaming together, the Eternals as another ensemble and the Fantastic Four on the way, not to mention some version of the X-Men, one would presume. See how those properties perform, use the Avengers characters to headline their own movies and shows and keep some sort of New Avengers idea in reserve for when the franchise needs a boost.
Winter Soldier (who needs a new name)
How about Nomad?

At this point, I think it’d make more sense to treat the Avengers like a supergroup. Go with the Hickman idea of recruiting pretty much every superhero there is and activating them when their particular strengths are needed. Have a big crossover Avengers movie every five years, with the biggest of big antagonists.
Of course, there’s the question of who would be able to properly organise the Avengers, with Natasha and Tony gone… like Steve, Sam would make a great team leader in the field, but he’s not the guy for the organisational structure. Maybe Bucky could grow into it; it’s not like he has a life. Or maybe Bruce.

She’s supposed to be really good in Let Them All Talk from last year, billed third after Meryl Streep & Candice Bergen.
Or Pepper Potts, who helps defeat the Skrulls with the help of exploding vagina candle tech.
Well, thanks for that image.
Peter Parker is the one they’ve been grooming as Tony Stark’s heir, so it would likely be him.
Nah, they’ll give him some time to grow up first.

Too young at this point.
Or Pepper Potts, who helps defeat the Skrulls with the help of exploding vagina candle tech.
KILL THE VISUAL, JESUS!
Peter is a weird one. Spider-Man is much more a street level, loner hero. He’s always been a little out of place in teams.
Also, the big consideration here is that Marvel doesn’t have full control over him. Putting a co-owned character out as the face of your biggest franchise is risky.
The ETERNALS teaser is interesting. Sort of Cloud Atlas and Prometheus mixed into a Marvel template.
Personally, the Eternals was often a second rate version of Kirby’s STAR SAGA epic from THOR to THE NEW GODS to CAPTAIN VICTORY. Unfortunately, it would be impossible to really adapt that since they are each owned by different companies.
Aaron Taylor Johnson will play Kraven the Hunter.
I’m literally rewatching Margin Call right now, and really wish J.C. Chandor was doing something more interesting than this.
Wasn’t sure who could play the role but I sure didn’t see him.
I assume he’ll be breaking out the Tenet beard again:
I assume he’ll be breaking out the Tenet beard again:
Looks better than this one:
Honestly, I think I’d see a KICK-ASS 3 with him taking on more of Nic Cage’s type role from the first one.
I don’t really see the appeal of Kraven without Spider-Man. Venom was at least o popular character that you can do fun stuff with visually and play up the weirdness of the symbiotic relationship. What do you even do with Kraven if he’s not going to hunt Spider-Man or Venom?

Oscar Isaac Confirmed to Star in Marvel’s Moon Knight for Disney+
Wait, why is this being “confirmed” now? I thought there’d been photos of him in training for the role and stuff. Did I hallucinate that?
It’s never been officially confirmed by Marvel until now but it is one of those ‘worst kept secrets’ things as it was first reported in January and as you say they have video of him and Hawke on location training.

The Eternals supposedly being around for thousands of years creates obvious problems for past MCU movies…

The trailer makes it pretty clear that they’ve stood by and watched plenty of wars take place without intervening, so I don’t see why the Avengers v. Thanos should be any different.

In the comics, Thanos is a mutated Eternal. I really hope the movie doesn’t go into all that, Thanos’s story is done, and some stupid retcon about his origins is completely unnecessary and would drag the movie down.

An Earth invasion led by Loki – do nothing
Thanos snaps HALF THE UNIVERSE away – still do nothing!!!
WTF does it take?

Getting top billing in a movie.
Gearing up for the start of Phase 4 by ranking the MCU movies to date:
Top tier:
01/ The Avengers
02/ Avengers: Endgame
03/ Iron Man
04/ Thor:Ragnarok
05/ Captain America: Winter Solider
06/ Avengers: Infinity War
07/ Guardians Of The Galaxy
08/ Spider-Man: Homecoming
Middle tier:
09/ Captain America: Civil War
10/ Captain America: First Avenger
11/ Black Panther
12/ Spider-Man: Far From Home
13/ Iron Man 3
14/ Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2
15/ Doctor Strange
16/ Thor
Bottom tier:
17/ Avengers: Age Of Ultron
18/ Ant-Man
19/ Ant-Man & The Wasp
20/ Iron Man 2
21/ Captain Marvel
22/ Thor: The Dark World
23/ Incredible Hulk
It has been a while since I’ve seen some of these, so my opinions on them may change whenever I get to viewing them again. I could be swayed to change the specific ordering but am happy at least with the split among the three tiers.
WTF does it take?
That’s the thing, isn’t it? No matter what it will be that finally makes them act, it’ll still seem pretty random.
So, you know. Best not to think about that part too much.
It’s essentially the golden rule of superhero stuff.
In truth every time some big visible threat happened to the Earth all the heroes would pile in and every comic becomes a massive crossover or every film is Avengers: Endgame. That would be overwhelming so you just have to wave away when it doesn’t happen or you’ll never enjoy them.
I suspect the Thanos stuff will be presented as the tipping point that spurs them into abandoning non-intervention, regardless of whether they’re shown to have actually done anything. Or they could have all been dusted in the snap. Bit of a cheat on the 50/50 odds but it papers over the issue.
Well it looks like Sersi is gonna be the one to get involved, forcing the hands of the others. She’s probably gonna fall in love with Jon Snow and Rob’s gonna get all jelly too.
I love that Taika Waititi wears this ridiculous get-up when he’s playing Korg even though there’s absolutely no reason for him to do so.
And by “no reason” you obviously mean “every reason“. I mean, look at how awesome he looks!
Sorry I can’t hear you over the sound of Chris Hemsworth’s biceps.

Marvel and “throuple” news of some of its actors:
That’s a really dubious, dubious site for any kind of “news” Al.
Lol
I know but it did come up in pictures in my feed so I just wanted to throw it out there.
As for the wording throuple, you got to take that up with the media who came up with it.
Take with a grain of salt:
A Black Cat movie has been “in development” for years. I guess a lot is resting on “Morbius” to see whether Sony’s revolutionary “Spider-verse Without a Spider-man” universe can extend beyond Venom movies.
EDIT: Also I just realised Morbius has now been shunted back to January 2022 – i.e. after Venom 2 – so I’d guess Sony’s faith in Morbius isn’t exactly sky-high.

It could also be that Marvel has a bunch of movies being released in the second half of the year and they didn’t want Morbius lost in the shuffle.
That’s probably it… So far we have something like 3 MCU flicks and Venom right? that’s quite a bit for a year that’s gonna start halfway through.
Four MCU movies: Black Widow, Shang-Chi, Eternals and Spidey.
It could also be that Marvel has a bunch of movies being released in the second half of the year and they didn’t want Morbius lost in the shuffle.
Morbius, Venom 2, and No Way Home are all Sony, so they probably wanted to spread them out, though there’s still only five weeks between No Way Home in December and Morbius at the end of January.

EXCLUSIVE: Tenoch Huerta playing none other than Namor in #BlackPanther2, and there’s some intriguing Atlantean supporting cast revealed: https://t.co/dM40jW1ypm

Sounds good. I suspected the various references in Endgame were leading to some Atlantis/Wakanda tomfoolery.
I’ve never heard of “The Illuminerdi.” Why should I trust them?
The "Namor is rumoured to be in Black Panther 2" -> "Namor is rumoured to be played by this guy" -> "Here are the guy who's rumoured to be playing Namor's homophobic tweets" cascade was faster than I expected

Normally, I say take stories like this with a grain of salt.
Namor could probably be played by any ethnicity. I remember fans who wanted Dwayne Johnson to play Namor.
I mean, logically Namor would be very pale, but sure, whatever… hell, the guy kinda even looks like Namor with a tan…
However, I was just commenting on that name, and also the fact that he’s very mexican indeed, and I mean racially: he’s got indigenous traits that you don’t see often on-screen, least of all in a blockbuster, so good for him I guess.
I honestly don’t care, and it doesn’t make me feel represented or proud or whatever. I’d say something like “as long as they do him well blah blah” but at this point I’m kinda over the whole MCU thing.
Normally, I say take stories like this with a grain of salt.
What if I take everything with a pinch of salt?
This guy’s head isn’t nearly triangular enough.
It’s sad to see that Marvel was still at that point espousing that classic racist trope of depicting Atlanteans with triangular heads.
I mean, logically Namor would be very pale
I dunno, fish come in all colours.
Namor clearly sees himself as some ethnicity other than white. This is how his first appearance ended:
Well that adds a whole other level to his involvement in the Black Panther franchise…
Well that adds a whole other level to his involvement in the Black Panther franchise…
It certainly makes sense given that Black Panther was the first MCU movie with an almost completely non-white cast. Martin Freeman and Andy Serkis called themselves, “the Tolkien whites.”
I dunno, fish come in all colours.
We’re talking NAMOR, David… not Nemo…. Namor =P
Another story to take with a grain of salt:

Marvel doesn’t know how to tell the Avengers story we all want, leak says
We knew going into Avengers: Endgame that we would be walking out of it saddened to realize we had just seen the last of at least one iconic MCU character. In the months and years that followed, we kept hearing rumors that Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans might reprise their Iron Man and Captain America roles in future MCU movies. We learned how Marvel could bring back any dead Avengers without ruining Endgame’s legacy. And we saw fans asking for a Steve Rogers story that would be so amazing to watch.
It turns out that Marvel has already considered telling the story we all want to see, but it doesn’t yet know how to pull it off.
Infinity War made it clear that Marvel isn’t afraid to show the audience the stakes become more and more real as the story progresses. Marvel killed half of our favorite heroes in the film and told us those deaths were final, and we should accept them. It turns out that Marvel didn’t exactly lie. The heroes who were blipped were gone for five years. And the ones who died before the blip stayed dead even after Hulk resurrected everyone.
Endgame then delivered more than we bargained for. Tony Stark and Steve Rogers were always expected to be among the victims of whatever confrontations came their way. And fans suspected others might be harmed, especially since someone had to recover that Soul Stone. But we could not have foreseen that Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson) would be the one to die. With Nat and Tony dead, and Steve retired, Endgame concluded a massive era for Marvel, opening the doors to a new set of Avengers adventures that would need new heroes.
But Endgame left several loose ends that could be covered in additional stories. We never saw how the world experienced Hulk’s (Mark Ruffalo) blip, and WandaVision delivered that moment. And we never saw what Loki (Tom Hiddleston) did after he escaped, but the Loki series started fixing all that.
There’s still one more untold Endgame story we’re dying to see, as it would finally explain one of the film’s biggest controversies. How did Steve return the Infinity Stones and Mjolnir? Where did he retire after completing that final mission?
Marvel answered that second question officially, addressing the matter a few different times. Steve stayed behind in a different reality where he finally got to dance with Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) and marry her. A leaker who claims they had provided “the most complete and accurate rundown of Endgame” has now returned to Reddit with a vast collection of Marvel secrets. Among them was a tidbit that Marvel wanted to make a TV show about Steve Rogers returning the Infinity Stones after Endgame.
Marvel reportedly reacted to fan feedback, but it ultimately could not find the right way to tell the story. Rogers’s arc was completed in Endgame, so there’s no emotional arc left for him:
Due to fan feedback, the idea of a Captain America Returns the Infinity Stones show did go through ideation. The crux of why it is currently not moving forward is there is no heart to show. Everyone agrees watching Cap return the stones (1 each episode) could be fun, but that is not a story. There is no emotional arc for him if at [its] core it is a reverse fetch quest. The most popular idea was that he would return the Soul Stone first, where Red Skull would warn him of the path he is headed on. From there, Red Skull would join Cap returning the stones as a way to redeem himself and return his own soul to him/free himself from being keeper of the Soul Stone. But his inevitable turn (he is Red Skull after all) never made sense either, and no other villains were considered.
Emotional arc or not, seeing Evans reprise his Steve Rogers role for this particular story would be excellent. And Marvel could probably find a way to tell this story so that it makes sense for the overall MCU storyline.
Other Marvel rumors claim that Evans will still return to the MCU, although he might not play Cap again. After all, that position was just filled. Remember though, that as we dive deeper into the multiverse, we could end up seeing a different Steve Rogers in the MCU.
I think it’s a good idea they didn’t pursue the story. It wasn’t something I felt I needed to see. It really doesn’t add anything to the character and story.
Decisions… decisions
Disney+ premier and the Black Widow movie
The option is to pay a $30 one time fee to watch the movie online for 3 months before it becomes available for regular streaming on Disney.
Given that you will pay as much to watch in the theatre (July 9 premiere date) at the same time and the pandemic is still not over.
Is it worth it?
How crazy are you to see Scarlett in those tights?
Can you wait 3 months?
First world problem.
Well you know, there are other options…
Oh and aldo, I’m kind of not interested at all… I mean, I’ll watch it ’cause there ain’t much to watch right now, but that whole movie just feels like too little too late… oh and the Taskmaster suit kinda ruined it for me.

It depends how many of you there are. It’s highly unlikely you are going to pay $30 for a single movie ticket.
It’s like with Pay Per View boxing the price is pretty exorbitant but most people invite friends around and they all chip in say $10 so it works out okay on an individual basis.

Agreed. I’d also argue there’s just no story there at all. The rules they set up were that the stones had to be returned to precisely the moment they were taken. Each episode would just be Steve lurking around the corner waiting for the past versions of the Avengers to take then stones then he’d just walk over and drop them back off a second later. Also, the rules were some of the most derided parts about the movie. Why revisit such nonsense?

What if Cap leapt into other people’s bodies each time, and could not leave until the timeline was corrected ?
