This is Disney/Marvel’s worst case scenario fully realized. This has to be a nightmare for them. On the upside, Kang has had many faces and identities over the years. They can say we’ve only seen variants, and the new hire will be the one, true Kang. Still, Majors’ face is in so much of the material that set up the storyline.

I’m sure that from this point on, the level of due diligence will increase significantly on new hires for key roles.

Hopefully, Damson Idris is available to be Kang. 😊

It’s now being reported that Marvel has officially dropped Majors.

I think they’re probably glad of the excuse to get rid of him at this point. If he was found not guilty they might have stuck with him despite everything that’s come out.

In terms of recasting, etc, Kang Dynasty (or whatever movie it will be) isn’t due out until 2026 now, so there’s not much of a hurry.

The whole Kang thing hasn’t really taken off the way they seemed to think it would, so i imagine we’ll just see the storyline dropped rather than recast..The Loki finale basically ended it anyway. Loki is keeping the timeline together and the TVA is keeping an eye on the Kang variants as they pop up.

I really don’t think they built Kang up to be the big baddie well. Nice tease at the end of Loki S1, but then a variant gets his ass handed to him by Ant-Man?!?! Yeah, we saw a shit ton of variants but still, Ant-Man?!?! In Loki S2, we met another variant who ended up constantly getting spaghettified.

That is not how you build up an apex level threat.

Jonathan Majors gets found guilty on some flimsy misdemeanor charges but Ezra Miller, who is objectively worse, gets to walk free? That’s bullshit.

Storywise, when Sylvie killed him, all the Kangs apparently came back instantly. I am surprised that no other “Kang” just jumped in to take over the TVA. The Kang in Ant-Man was a baddie in that quantum place and I doubt all the others were primitives.

There are workarounds to all this. The character can be recasted, or bring in Dr. Doom and his Time Machine (from the “shadows”) to usurp everything and it will be all the heroes vs. Doom. Who knows? The writers strike is over and either way I’m not paid as a writer or consultant. 🤣

As for Majors, we will find out Feb 6th.

I mean, that’s just the law..Some people get punished and some don’t🤷‍♂️..

I’m seeing a lot of the right wingers/mens right morons bringing up Miller like it’s some kind of Gotcha for Hollywood…Miller is hardly swimming in work since The Flash, which was only released because it had already been filmed.
If anything I think Majors will have the easier time coming back from his scandal. Some very public anger management meetings and an interview where he accepts the blame and I think he’ll be back in a couple years. Maybe not to blockbusters, but he’ll work again.

  • #114492

Take it with huge grain of salt but the rumors were that WBD greased some wheels to make Miller’s problems go away. They literally had hundreds of millions of dollars riding on him and thought the film would be a hit.

    They lost that bet.

Episode titles for What If? Season 2:

    1. “What If… Nebula Joined the Nova Corps?”
    2. “What If… Peter Quill Attacked Earth’s Mightiest Heroes?”
    3. “What If… Happy Hogan Saved Christmas?”
    4. “What If… Iron Man Crashed Into the Grandmaster?”
    5. “What If… Captain Carter Fought the Hydra Stomper?”
    6. “What If… Kahhori Reshaped the World?”
    7. “What If… Hela Found the Ten Rings?”
    8. “What If… the Avengers Assembled in 1602?”
    9. “What If… Strange Supreme Intervened?”

Aside from maybe 1602, none of those really pique my interest. Though I do wonder if Kang shows up in any of them.

    No, new character. https://www.marvel.com/articles/tv-shows/what-if-kahhori-new-super-hero

What If…? asks what would happen if the Tesseract fell to Earth and landed in the sovereign Haudenosaunee Confederacy before the colonization of America.

The Tesseract takes on a new life and a new mythology, transforming a lake into a gateway to the stars and leading Kahhori, a young Mohawk woman, on a quest to discover her power.

That whole thing seems like a horrible mess.

The mixed verdict signals the jury believed Majors recklessly assaulted his ex-girlfriend, but did not intentionally do so.

The mixed verdict also suggests the jury did not believe Majors intentionally committed aggravated harassment inside the SUV, but did believe he harassed her outside the vehicle by picking her off the ground and throwing her back inside.

Following the verdict, Priya Chaudhry, a lawyer for Majors, said they were disappointed by the jury’s decision.

“It is clear that the jury did not believe Grace Jabbari’s story of what happened in the SUV because they found that Mr. Majors did not intentionally cause any injuries to her. We are grateful for that,” her statement read.

“We are disappointed, however, that despite not believing Ms. Jabbari, the jury nevertheless found that Mr. Majors was somehow reckless while she was attacking him,” the statement continued.

That whole case seems like a terrible mess.

Granted, he made Yale, and he has some talent and form to be in the movies.
He was on the way up, but underneath it all he has issues stemming from
what he went through in his life that were never addressed.

What I find puzzling was the audio of him talking to the girlfriend at the time.
He was asking (maybe demanding) her to be a supportive soulmate like
Coretta Scott King and Michelle Obama. Huh?

I missed it at the time, but apparently a few weeks ago the actors who were working on Wonder Man were released from their contracts and told filming wouldn’t be resuming.

“From a source I know the idea that he’s going to be working on the Wonder Man series is cover. ‘Cause from what I’m being told is that the actors were told to move on from the Wonder Man series and if they are going to do it they were going to be starting from scratch.”

Nothing official yet; I’d hope someone would ask Yahya Abdul Mateen II about it when he’s doing press for Aquaman.

The gf Grace Jabarri is a dancer and does some choreography. She was a cute gf and he dated her, took her to restaurants and clubs.

There are work arounds storywise. They could recast like they did with Banner and Rhodey, have Dr. Doom spring up, or leave Loki as this Timelord god.

But still… the MCU overall has a lot of work to do. It lost its way after Endgame for the most part, and needs to right the ship.

Well, we know about Deadpool 3, Thunderbolts, and Captain America simply because those have all started filming. Outside of that, I’d say most everything else might be up in the air after the last couple of flops, their alleged struggle to cast FF, and Majors conviction and firing.

It’s honestly pretty impressive how quickly they burned through their post Endgame goodwill. They really should have given the Avengers a break and shifted focus to X-Men post Endgame. That it’s been nearly 5 years since the Fox merger was finalized and no official X movie has been announced is a bit mind boggling.

I figured there would be at least one dropout from this movie; it’s a huge cast who all have other projects going, it was unlikely they could match everyone’s schedules up a second time, especially when every project is trying to get back up at the same time post-strike. Yeun was apparently playing The Sentry; I wonder who will replace him.

One of the reasons Secret Invasion was so bad was that expectations for it were fairly high: it had a great cast, a cool conspiracy thriller premise, etc.

Echo is a chance to see some of the cast of Reservation Dogs again, I guess? And I like D’Onofrio.

    Wrong thread.

  • #114986

Echo was actually fairly decent, except for the lead actress… holy shit Marvel did her dirty from the get go and their stunt casting is probably gonna end up back-firing on them… seriously, I’m sorry if I’m too superficial but why didn’t they have her on one of their training regimes so she’d get fit? I don’t mind a “not ultra skinny” chick, but here she just looked fat, and plain too, and not in a good way, and what they dressed her with didn’t help AT ALL… I mean, she’s not ugly or anything, a little less weight, a better hair style and better clothes would’ve made all the difference… I feel bad for her. Oh and that “final” costume they gave her was awful as shit…

Aside from that, I liked how they turned the character into a benegeserit, not a bad idea at all considering the context of the character, although the last scene where grandma & cousing also get magic powers was groan-inducing, but like, if you remove the magic hands and literally go with a more subtle benegeserit-like concept, that would work really well for the character going forward.

D’Onofrio was great as usual, all the actors were, tbh. It wasn’t a super bombastic story, but it was good (and short) enough… should’ve been a movie tho, maybe they would’ve gotten more money for makeup and costumes u_u

Oh and it’s silly, but god I missed the brutality of the Netflix shows…

That was my point, she’s not even that fat but she looks it… it’s the clothes, they gave her a terrible wardrobe all the way through, like super skin tight clothes that make her look like an over-filled burrito or something. Her agent, or herself, dropped the ball, they should’ve fought for better wardrobe & make-up. Anyways, she looked really bad and I couldn’t get past it.

Finally managed to see The Marvels and can conclusively say that it is better than Secret Invasion. Just a perfectly acceptable superhero flick that’s really not worth any significant negative or positive critiques. It just exists.

I never saw the Ms Marvel show so I was a bit unclear about her background, powers, etc. I don’t think the movie did a particularly good job of explaining such things. Then again, I also saw the first Captain Marvel movie and all of Wandavision and I was still unclear about what Monica’s whole deal was here. The movie didn’t go a good job of explaining her either.

Nonetheless, Kamala and her family were absolutely the highlights of the movie. Honestly, the movie would have been better if it was just about Kamala and her family suddenly having to deal with fighting aliens in space alongside Nick Fury and an army of cats. The whole thing grinds to a halt whenever it stops to deal with Carol or Monica.

And the ending! Good grief. Carol’s been dealing with the Kree home world for how many years and at no point did she figure out what she could do to help it? It made her look like she was either a total dumbass or that she just DGAF.

For whatever it is worth, I don’t think the bad box office performance is attributed to all those ‘interesting’ incel type folk out there. They were all around for the first movie and it still did a billion dollars. They were all around for Barbie last year and that still did huge business. I think this movie just suffered due to the perfect storm of the audience not caring about the lead character, the MCU and even superhero movies overall lacking momentum, more and more people viewing these things as Disney+ fodder and the strikes impacting the promotion of it. The movie is mid-tier Marvel, on par with the Ant-Man or Dr Strange movies, and if it had come out a few years earlier would have done perfectly acceptable numbers, I’m sure.

Then the mid-credits scene… certainly lends credence to the rumour that Secret Wars is going to be primarily based in the Fox Universe.

Oh good, can we stop blaming a tiny minority of morons already?

Yeah, the movie is just fucking ass… no wonder it did poorly. Just saw it too, I actually watched it in 2 sittings, something I rarely do, because I was so fuckin bored I went do something else, then I figured I’d finish it while eating diner. I’m soooo glad I didn’t watch this in the theaters, I would’ve probably walked out during that dumbass singing planet thing (I do hate musicals), but here I could just skip it.

Anyways, yeah, the script was really shit, the directing was pretty bad, the VFX were okay but kinda bland and pedestrian and it all felt like a Diseny+ show if I’m being honest, with a slightly higher budget for VFX I guess, but yeah, I got some serious D+ vibes.

Oh, I didn’t watch the Miss Marvel show (except one episode) and honestly, I’m not sure what was the idea to have her family running around in the movie, it just felt off, and again, very sitcom-y… I know some people like those characters, but ugh I did not… waste of screen time. The Miss Marvel kid was trying, to her credit, but it just didn’t work for me… it all felt fake and hollow.

Edit: Oh, something else, I usually don’t notice the music in movies when it’s fine, I notice it when it’s REALLY good or when it’s dogshit… here I noticed it and it wasn’t ’cause it was good… u_u

    Damn, how far the MCU’s fallen… =/

  • #115182

To elaborate on Echo… and, yes, spoilers ahead…

1/ The powers. They’re completely different from what the character has in the comics. That’s not necessarily a bad thing but the show is terribly unclear about what her actual powers are. At least in the source material the powers follow a certain comic-booky logic from her deafness, much like Daredevil’s from his blindness. Now she can, what, do a Vulcan mind-meld? See dead ancestors? Perhaps heal a bird? It just didn’t work.

2/ Kingpin. Vincent D’Onofrio is tremendous, of course. But the MCU Kingpin continues to get diluted from the Netflix Kingpin. In the Daredevil show he was a terrifying shadow that loomed large over everything, even though he never did anything himself. Now he’s some sort of mix between Juggernaut and Otis from the Donner Superman movies. His grand plan here is to go ask Maya to come back to him, even though the last time they saw each other she tried to kill him. If she says yes, great, she can become his heir (even though the last time they saw each other she tried to kill him). If she says no, well, he’ll send a Welshman with a bazooka to blow up her home town. Oh, and apparently his operations run some sort of illicit railroad that delivers its wares to a top-secret warehouse with FISK SHIPPING on the side of the building. And this is the guy the FBI couldn’t pin anything on? Dumbass.

3/ Maya. What a dick! The show frames her as being a total innocent and Fisk as being the villain. That’s a distorted view to take given that she has personally committed countless murders and other crimes. It can’t all be blamed on her upbringing. In fact, the show goes out of its way to demonstrate that her nature was always like this (her bird-killing efforts; her lack of empathy with the ice cream vendor). Despite this, she takes no accountability for anything and the show just gives her hugs instead. And, for crying out loud, Kingpin didn’t kill her father, Hawkeye did! She never displays any resentment towards her father for anything either, despite him repeatedly choosing a life of crime for decades, even after it cost him his wife’s life and isolated them from that side of the family. Kingpin isn’t responsible for any of that. There could be a very interesting show here that explores all of this and puts in the work to earn a sense of redemption for Maya, yet this show doesn’t even try and instead just shoehorns in the supernatural nonsense instead. Oh, and her grand plan is to pick on Fisk’s operations, even though she thinks he’s dead, by targeting his railway activity specifically from her hometown, not anywhere else along the route, even though it will inevitably put her friends and family in danger. Dick.

4/ Nobody even invited the grandpa to the family dinner at the end! What a shower of bastards.

They’re great designs, and work in lots of different contexts really well (comics, animation, video games).

When they finally reboot the X-Men movies I could see them skewing closer to these designs. I think we even got a taste of something a bit closer to them at the end of one of the later Fox movies (Apocalypse?).

    I finished watching Echo.

The series really did have a lot of potential and you can see flashes of it throughout the series. The show could have been a nifty little crime drama with some weirdness. Honestly, it really wants to be the Fargo TV series but it just lack the experienced hand at the wheel and had the MCU “slickness” that really soften the edges.

In looking at Alaqua Cox’s performance, I blame a good chunk of the problems on the directors and writing. They have Maya as the stereotypical wounded stoic warrior woman and frankly, that’s a tired trope that needs to die. I do think she could have showed a bit more emotion when she was signing.

Having just watched Season 5 of Fargo, I can see what Echo could have been in the right hands. I absolutley LOVED Legion (it’s my favorite Marvel series period) and wish they could get Noah Hawley to do an MCU series. Let him cut loose. I think it would be fantastic.

Honestly I’m expecting Thunderbolts to receive the same reception as The Marvels

Two big Marvel movies are missing from Disney’s 2025 lineup

Blade and Thunderbolts were not mentioned in the recent Disney earnings call

“Looking to our 2025 theatrical slate, we’re excited to bring audiences Captain America: Brave New World and Fantastic Four for Marvel, Pixar has Zootopia 2, and then there’s Avatar 3,” Iger said during the call.

    …Thunderbolts (July 25, 2025) and Blade (November 7, 2025)… weren’t mentioned by Iger…

Saw The Marvels, now that it was streaming. Just a few quick thoughts, probably nothing that hasn’t been said before:
    – I had fun watching it, it was entertaining enough. Liked it better than, say, Ant-Man 3.
    – I liked that it was an almost-all-female thing, but Jesus Christ, they could’ve been a bit more subtle about, you know, the idea that women know how to support each other. Dialogues as subtle as being hit in the face with a sledgehammer. There were moments when I thought I’d accidentally turned ST:DISCO on.
    – They really should’ve gotten some better known actress for the villain. I didn’t think she was very good, and in a movie with a mostly unknown main cast, it would’ve been good to at least cast a name actor for the antagonist.
    – Some of the editing was weirdly choppy, and some of the direction wasn’t great, with strangely static dialogue scenes and pauses where there shouldn’t be any.
    – Liked the crazy ideas, like the singing planet and the Flerken evacuation. And the place-switching was quite fun in some scenes.
    – Iman Vellani stole the movie. She’s just really very, very good at being immensely likeable and naturally fun. Oh, and Kamala’s family was great, as always. Happy that they got a supporting role in the movie.

I’m Honestly surprised to see people being a bit down on Thunderbolts. Of the upcoming slate I think it looks quite promising…But i do still think Blade won’t actually happen.

As to the choppiness, supposedly a lot was cut to reduce the runtime. You can tell scenes were cut that would have made for smoother transitions and helped the story more.

Yeah, I thought that might be the case. And the short runtime was probably good for the movie, but maybe they should’ve kept some of that stuff in.

Got around to watching The Marvels.

I enjoyed it. It was a lot of fun, most of it due to Ms Marvel and her family, who pretty much steal the movie.

Other bits that worked well was Fury and the Flerkins.  And the post credits teaser definitely landed.

Stuff that did not work: Dar-Benn. Most MCU villains are pretty pathetic most of the time. It’s a feature, not a bug, but even so, she was more so than most. Possibly because she’s the blame-it-on-everyone-else type that is everywhere in real life currently.

Similarly, Carol’s guilt trip also fell flat. It works as a character flaw of taking on too much, of stuff that isn’t hers to take on, but of what is known of the Kree? They more than likely screwed their sun over in their civil war then looked for someone to blame.

The singing planet? Not great, but not terrible.

It’s biggest success is in how rolls along to be an entertaining time, without any sense of padding. I also loved that they are setting up Young Avengers.

But you have to explain why Deadpool is in the MCU now!  How else will the cottage industry of YouTube nerds and listicle magazines stripmine the trailer for content and outrage?!

Also, is it me or does it look quite more CGI-ey than the other 2? I mean, I guess that’s to be expected, but eh… I was hoping for more grit.

Can’t say I’m too excited about it, I already didn’t like DP2, and now between it being Disney, a sequel to a movie I didn’t care for, seemignly going AGAIN with the whole multiverse shit, aaaand bringing back Jackman, yeeeah, it just feels… off. I’m expecting it to be stale fan-service, tbh, which is sad, but oh well.

I really hope the jokes aren’t as bad as those in the trailer… “I’m Marvel jesus”? really? zzzzzzzzzzzzz… lazy as fuck.

Yeah, I liked that they’ve dropped how and gone full on dimension splicing. Multiverse stuff needs to be fun, this looks like it will be.

It’s just the first trailer, and they obviously didn’t want to show too much of it yet. I am sure the next trailers will have more excitement.

Huh. But you did like the first one? Seems a bit weird, as they weren’t all that different to me.

I was similar – I liked 1 a lot, thought 2 was a letdown – but I put that down to seeing the first one on opening night with a big audience and seeing the second at home. These films work much better with a big, enthusiastic audience.

For me I’m hoping it focuses on the mismatched buddy-movie stuff and keeps the multiverse stuff as background/minor. I think there’s a lot of potential in Wolverine and Deadpool as a Marvel Tango & Cash, but I’m concerned they won’t be able to resist making the Fox mutant universe-meets-MCU aspect of it a big deal in a way that overshadows that.

Well that IS problem, DP2 is just a lesser re-heat of the 1st one, without the novelty factor to boot… It wasn’t even that funny.

I did really like Domino tho, her scenes were probably the best thing about that movie.

Speaking of funny tho, I’m a bit worried… jokes used to be vague enough that some people would get the reference, but in this trailer it’s like they’re flat out spelling it out for you, which imo is not funny at all… And yea, I watched the trailer again, it does look waaaay more CGI-ey, I wasn’t tripping… it’s the suit, it looks less textured and real… and it’s probably CGI… oh and the colors look very MCU-ey too.

  • #115624

Okay, I kinda get that. I liked the chemistry between DP and Cable, so it worked fine for me, but if that wasn’t your bag of beans, fair enough. I suspect that the same will go for DP3 then, though, because the dynamics should be pretty similar. So, yeah, this probably isn’t for you.

And yea, I watched the trailer again, it does look waaaay more CGI-ey,

Yeah, the CGI still shows too much, but remember that that stuff often isn’t finished when the trailers are released. I assume it’s going to look better in the end product.

It’s still so weird to me that that movie got made. But then, that’s how I feel about all of the Sony Spiderverse, and Venom certainly worked out for them. I do wonder whether they’ll just pack it in if Morbius, Madame Web and Kraven all turn out to be flops.

I mean, fuck man, if the thing you’re doing is making superhero movies about characters nobody knows or cares about, why not go for an actually good franchise?

Yeah I don’t know about that, we always think that, and then the movies always come out with the same shitty trailer quality CGI, so I don’t fall for that line of thought anymore… sure, there’s always a chance, but I don’t assume that anymore… plus I’m pretty sure the color grading is gonna stay like that too.

Eh, listen, if it’s good, then awesome, I’d rather see a good movie than a shit one, buuut I’m not feeling it after that trailer
