Our first Christmas on the Carrier so I thought it was worth a little extra festive cheer with a dedicated thread.

Happy Christmas to everyone and thanks again to Gar for setting this place up and keeping it running in an ever-improving form.

Here’s to lots more in 2020.

    Merry Christmas!!!

Heh. And to imagine that there are people who think that the internet is a bad thing. I mean, come on! Two decades in, the Alien Christmas memes are really top-notch.

    Everybody?

Well Afflux was two weeks ago but I just assume you pagans include it in Christmas

Due to the fierce right bent in the forum we are clearly on one side of the War on Christmas!

  • #10188

There is some irony in the fact that the board’s one right-winger is pointing that out

    I’ll make you a deal:

If you don’t vote for Trump then I won’t wish you a Merry Christmas.

Awwww. Jerry is just looking in the mirror: we’re all a reflection of you. (Give yourselves a Christmas gift and read Stoner if you haven’t already. It’s Murakamically good).

And much gratitude to the lovely Mr. Garjones for the good ship Carrier. She’s a very fine Boaty McBoatface. I suspect her middle name is Serenity. ( We’re in a parallel universe: Firefly is still flying). Hope you and yours have the best Christmas.

Permission to come aboard; oh captain, my captain,

    sincerely,

    B  x0x

The Principia Discordia is quite clear on the major paganisms of our day.

    Humbug.

    Yes please.

    I know!

I always associate Stoner with you because you shared that story about your daughter before. The same day I was walking by a charity shop and a copy was in the window. It wasn’t there the day before. I know because I stopped to get a very nice edition of Madam Bovary.

The story would be better if it had been a copy of Needful Things.

I also know Stoner is Ethan Hawke’s favourite book. At least, I think I know.

Jerry is clearly Neo played by Ethan Hawke.

    This is how senility begins….

Nope. It’s because David wrote, “Humbug.”

Stoner is such a quiet, gentle read. And then there are the gut-punch truths.

I’m trying to think of its theme song. Maybe The Gaslight Anthem’s Stay Vicious.
