Given the chat in the ‘Watching’ thread I thought this might support its own discussion.

As we’re all likely watching at slightly different paces, it might be worth tagging any major spoilers with an indication of which episode they relate to?

Cheers, Dave. Now I find myself at a loss for what to say.

I’m determined to think of something but I can’t see the Forest for the trees with that creepy colossus blocking my view.

Oh so I’ve seen it all.

I think the show very cleverly evoked the concept of many worlds vs determinism without rigorously breaking it down as a video essay.

Things like Coles decision at the end and the ultimate reason of Devs becoming operational make this argument impliedly.

One thing I didn’t like was the overt name change from Devs to Deus.  The writing was clever and this little trick of the light seemed a bit beyond what was established. With this said, I probably wouldn’t have picked it up if it hasn’t been made clear.

I gave up after the third episode. I just didn’t find it or the characters interesting enough to stick with the glacial pace (the end of the third episode should have been the end of the first episode).

I’ll probably peek in here occasionally just to see if my theory of what was going on is correct though.

Oh wow, I did not think it was slow moving at all.

I’m only a few episodes into this so already skimming over some of the details of those earlier posts.

I’m enjoying it though. Admittedly more for the ideas around the technology than the slightly soap-opera sub-’24’ espionage stuff. There’s some fun writing though and some nice visual design.

I’m almost done with this series (six episodes in now) and really enjoying it. Can’t wait to see how it all plays out but don’t want it to end. It’s really built into something special.

I binged it all in a couple days. Was episode 6 the world’s most awkward dinner party? I didn’t find it glacial either; a few characters are, but not the pacing.

    Ha! Yes.

Enjoyed the last couple of episodes a lot. At first I was a little unsure about the way things ultimately turned out, but the more I think about it the more I like it.

Some of the late twists were decent and I loved the use of music throughout.

Still feel a bit like they tried to have their cake and eat it with the way the ending played out, but there’s so much about it that works that I don’t mind too much.

I’m also really happy that this seems to be a self-contained single series (unless there’s more coming that I haven’t heard about?) – I hope Garland does more of these.

I know what you mean. It was a bit cute, but without pointing it out in an aren’t-we-clever moment I probably wouldn’t have made the connection either.

I made the connection to Ex Machina from the scene of Forest shot against the backdrop of those freaky tree lights. It gave him a halo.

Garland has written a couple episodes for a new anthology series. He’s said he’d like to have the same cast like a repertoire.
