Anyway, there’s going to be a Keaton Batman who may or may not share a universe with an Affleck Batman and there’s a Pattinson Batman who has nothing to do with either of them? And none of them have anything to do with the Phoenix Joker?

You know what they need? A big event where they all get collapsed into one version in a single universe.

They could call it… “Calamity”… uh… “Predicament”… uh… give me a minute to work on it, I’m sure there’s a cool name they could use… :mail:

The Suicide Squad panel just finished. Movie opening set for August 2021. It turns out James Gunn is a big fan of John Ostrander so be prepared for very old school Suicide Squad.

A real shame that they soured Leto and Smith on the last one, I would’ve liked to see them back… Also, kinda sad that I’m most excited about Jay Courtney’s Cpt. Boomerang… xD

But not super excited in general for the movie…

  • #36479

The panel had almost the entire cast. It has Gunn and his go-tos Fillion , Rooker, and Sean Gunn. It has the holdovers from the 1st movie but I got the feeling that they will be playing new versions of these characters. One person said that he viewed the movie as a 70s war movie with Gunn’s sensibilities. I have not read them in decades but I think Ostrander’s SS dealt with a South American revolution and so will Gunn’s film.

I guess he’s just irritated that the trailer leaked and has received a lukewarm response.

The campaign starts now for him to go back and recut a new, better version of the trailer.

i liked the trailer. I thought the song choice was great.   I liked the added bits with Ben and Ezra.

Watching Flash panel now. Both Flashes (Ezra and Barry) really embraced the Lockdown and Carlos joined in as well.

Or maybe Scott Mendelson’s been an asshole from the get go about the whole RTSC thing and fuck that guy for being a party pooper when everyone just wants to enjoy the moment. So yeah, fuck Scott Mendelson.

I guess he’s just irritated that the trailer leaked and has received a lukewarm response.

Lukerwarm response? why because some haters hated it? wow… breaking news…

Let’s just wait until more people watch it before we call it a “lukewarm” response… =/

  • #36486

Oh also, speaking of, wow that was a pretty long teaser… I wasn’t expecting that much… It shows quite a bit of new stuff… but my first thought was… wow Snyder REALLY loves that song… xD

But anyways, yeah, it looks pretty much like what I’m expecting it to be, which is the same overall plot but with A LOT more things in between… like, A LOT.

Anyways, they’ve had some pretty cool panels… the Voice of Batman was pretty cool actually, nice shout-out to the voice actors from all over the world. The Milestone panel was pretty cool too.

Not bad, this on-line event… I guess it’s feeling a bit too scripted, but yeah, that’s because it is, but it’s been actually entertaining soooo good job I guess?

Edit: So here’s the official teaser:

Sooo… Wait was that Desaad?? ha!

Not gonna lie, that very first Darkseid shot looks pretty bad, so I’m assuming it’s an unfinished shot… maybe they shouldn’t have put it in this teaser… I’m really hopoing they’ll polish it before release…

But the rest is pretty cool… We got Iris West back, so that’s nice… and yup, that Steppenwolf looks badass.

Also, huh, so more Knightmare shots… interesting… I hope they tie that whole thing together.

Couple of interesting things from the panel:

So it’s gonna be divided into 4 1-hour long episodes, and it’ll be done in a way that you can watch it as a whole movie.

I don’t know if they let him keep the “Zack Snyder’s Justice League” title… It would seems so… that’s kind of a huge get and I’m legit surprised DC allowed him.

The Flash will show some never-before seen powers apparently… related to his “quantum abilities”… makes sense considering the Knightmare shots.

One thing though… I’m honestly not loving the format… It’s soooooooooo jarring watching a square format in 2020… last time I saw something even close to that was like in 1985 or something… xD

I get it it’s the original aspect ratio and whatnot, but ehhh… they should at least go full screen…

  • #36495

    Aaaaand The Batman teaser…

Looks alright I guess… still not feeling the mask, tbh. Looks weird. But hey, at least it looks like he can REALLY move his ass in that costume, so there’s that.

It’s very reminiscent of Nolan’s Batman though, so I guess people are gonna like it a lot.

  • #36496

Okay, I’m kinda geeking out on this thread, but I just saw this, and man, I gotta say… how fuckin’ cool is Snyder? After the whole fandome shit, he went on a “youtuber fan roundtable” for 40 minutes to shoot the shit with all of these youtuber guys who, no offense, but are basically nobodies in terms of views and subscribers, just some fans who’ve been supporters of the #RTSC deal… 40 minutes with a bunch of nobody fans, instead of going to IGN or Collider or whichever big channel he could’ve gone to and who would’ve killed for a 5 minute interview, but nah, he goes on for 40 minutes with the fans…

And then people wonder why his fans are so passionate…

Also: some spoilers in that discussion with Snyder, so don’t watch if you don’t want any spoilers (it goes on from around 0:46:00 to 1:28:00 or so…)

Black Adam went with a weird motion comic concept art thing for its trailer, I guess because there’s no footage yet, but it’s got The Rock so the movie should be fun.

Despite myself, I quite liked the look of The Batman – or at least it was a well put together trailer. It’s a shame they still felt the need to pander to the “f**k yeah!” mentality with the gratuitous beating Bats gives that guy though.

I honestly couldn’t see the point of the Suicide Squad thing. James Gunn can be a bit hit or miss for me when he’s not doing Guardians, and a bunch of talking heads saying nothing more insightful than “it’s going to be awesome!” is a bit lame. Also, Peacemaker looks beyond dumb. Which is no doubt the point.

The song choice really does seem to suggest that this isn’t being marketed on it’s merits, but on the story behind it actually happening.

My expectations of this new cut making for a film as ultimately forgettable as the original have not changed.

But I’m very happy for Jon and I’m sure many people are happy to see all those new deleted scenes though.

Colin Farrell’s a brilliant actor. Always dependable. Love that he’s Penguin.

Aside from “I’m vengeance” I really like The Batman trailer. Looks like it’ll be an actual mystery this time and the suit and the car both look great to me. Plus, Robert Pattinson’s the best actor working right now and Matt Reeves made the best two action movies of the 2010s that aren’t Fury Road. Jeffrey Wright, Paul Dano, Zoe Kravitz, Peter Saarsgard, and John Turturro are just five more reasons to see the movie.

  • #36526

Like the look of the Batman trailer. I mean, okay, Riddler as a serial killer and all that feels a little bit like those grim’n’gritty takes on comics we had for a while… but hey, if it works, why not? I like that we seem to be getting a detective Batman.

  • #36533

Suicide Squad should be fun. The Batman looks like a Batman movie. Pattinson’s hair looked kind of dumb in some of those scenes, but whatever. I like the idea of a detective Batman movie, but otherwise nothing much stands out about the trailer for me. Snyder’s Justice League…I did a big eye roll on the song choice but I’m at least curious enough as to what Snyder’s Superman plans were in the movie (largely the same, I suspect, but maybe a little more fleshed out).

  • #36536

I don’t like Snyder much at all but I thought the song choice was hilarious given how much flak he’s gotten for it over the years. I respect the move even if I doubt I’ll ever watch the movie.

1 user thanked author for this post.
  • #36537

I don’t quite understand what it is that people see in the trailer that indicates that it will be a detective Batman. Is it the riddles? Is it working with the cops?

Because most of the things I see are meaningless (but really good looking) shots, almost like a motion comic.

That said, I do like the look of it so far. The violence is a bit gratuitous, but that’s how I like my violence so… No complaints.

1 user thanked author for this post.
  • #36539

For me it’s just that it looks like he’ll have to solve multiple riddles, presumably while also trying to figure out whatever his connection to Riddler is, as hinted in the Bat-computer scene. (I saw a theory online that I’m 90% convinced will end up being the case.)

Yeah how the hell did they miss casting Elba as Bronze Tiger? Easiest lay-up in the world.

A Tiger/Vixen/Flo love triangle would add a nice dimension to any Suicide Squad movie.

I’m of the mind that Michael Jai White is the only guy who can play a believable BT as far as martial arts. Unless Hollywood were to take a chance on Marrese Crump.

1 user thanked author for this post.
  • #36564

They could put him in the tiger mask and use a body double for martial arts scenes, or just use CGI like Batfleck. Elba as an actual cool, at least semi-iconic character is just too good an opportunity to pass up, instead they Heimdall’d him again.

  • #36565

Actually, as per Snyder himself, he chose the Halleluja song around 2 years ago simply because of personal/family reasons, it seems it’s an important song chez Snyder… so it’s actually not a “fuck you”, even though it’s a little bit given the situation

He also revealed some funny behind the scenes stuff in that round table, like how the fact that most images he’s been sharing on Vero all these years were from the final trailer he was working on but never got to complete, hence the many pre-vis stuff he posted over the years, because that was the only thing he had on his phone… aaaaand so this trailer that was released yesterday is basically that trailer… but a bit more finished. So it’s the trailer that some people have seen over the years, and the images that he’s been showing.

He also said they’re still negotiating the “Zack Snyder’s Justice League” title, so that’s not a sure thing yet. I’d still be surprised if it gets it, simply because it implies ownership/creatorship to Snyder and DC’s probably not very down with that, and it’s honestly understandable… it should just be called “the Snyder cut” anyways.

Oh they still have like 25k VFX shots to work on and the VFX on the trailer is not final, they just rushed the trailer out for fandome.

He didn’t know about Ben Affleck coming back for Flash… There’s no plans for anything further after the Snydercut, but he literally knocked on wood, so I guess it’ll depend on how it performs.

And he was geeking out about Matt Reeve’s Batman flick. He obviously enjoyed that beatdown.

Actually, one thing that was very cool throughout the Fandome event thingie was how supportive everyone was of everyone’s movies, and it actually felt legit… Like, even Patty Jenkins went on Snyder panel’s to congratulate him and Reeve also gave him a shout out, so did the Shazam kids. I was a bit bummed they didn’t say anything about Ayer’s SQ… buuut understandable given Gunn’s SQ was one of the big panels…

  • #36566

As for the Batman… I think everyone is saying it’s a Detective story becasue 1) MR has been saying/implying that for a while, IIRC… and 2) it has some serious Fincher’s Seven vibes…

I’m starting to think this will be a little bit like the Joker movie, in that the Joker was kind of like a “homage” to stuff like Taxi, etc… and the Batman one will be a “homage” to stuff like Seven perhaps.

  • #36567

hey Anders, don’t start none, won’t be none.

The event had a lot of self gratification but it wasn’t all that. IMO, Zac Levi always makes a con better and they were very smart to start with WW panel. Also, The Rock, to me, is a great promoter.

The Flash panels could have been better. Ezra Miller looked like he has been doing a lot of drugs during lockdown and Grant looked like he just came in off the the street.

The thing that I needed to remember about the Suicide Squad panel is Gunn likes to kill people in his movies. How many of the 18 people in that panel will survive the movie?

Not sure about King Shark though… CGI characters are expensive, therefore expendable when thinking about a sequel… But I’d say Waller, Harley, Flagg, Boomerang are safe since they seem to be the “core group” at this point. Maybe Elba and Cena… but it all depends on whether the actors still have a contract left (seems Will Smith only signed a one-movie contract) or want to come back later too… so who knows…

Batman star Robert Pattinson ‘tests positive for Covid-19’

Actor will reportedly self-isolate as Warner Bros halts UK production of The Batman

The actor Robert Pattinson has tested positive for Covid-19, according to US media reports, halting production of his film The Batman just days after it resumed following lockdown.

A spokesperson for Warner Bros, the Hollywood studio behind the film, said: “A member of The Batman production has tested positive for Covid-19, and is isolating in accordance with established protocols. Filming is temporarily paused.”

The studio declined to name the individual affected, but Vanity Fair and the Hollywood Reporter cited unnamed sources as saying the person who tested positive was Pattinson, the film’s star. The 34-year-old will self-isolate for two weeks before filming resumes.

    It increasingly does.

The initial reports of this were in China where the tests were very close together, a lot of suspicion false negatives were produced and they still had it.

Since then though there have been cases in Hong Kong and Spain where positive results have been seen 5 months apart, with symptoms both times.

As with everything with this ‘novel’ virus we’re working it out as we go along with rushed data but we can’t rush to assuming immunity when other coronaviruses do mutate and can be contracted again.

There’s apparently a number of reasons to assume that even if there is a reinfection, it’s likely to be both less infectious and less problematic. Um, the biological details are beyond me, but I’ll let Dr. Drosten explain:

There’s apparently a number of reasons to assume that even if there is a reinfection, it’s likely to be both less infectious and less problematic.

I wouldn’t disagree, it all makes sense. However I am very wary of jumping to any bold statements with a novel virus. We’re very much in the realm of theory, albeit from very knowledgeable minds, with small data sets and contradictory information.

It also means that it’s possible if you get it a second time you may not be that badly affected but you can still spread it. So we’re a way off confidently declaring no risk if you have been tested positive and recovered.

Well, you do have to come to some conclusions from the available data when it comes to which actions should be taken to deal with the pandemic. But that may not be the job of the DC movie thread. Batman doesn’t have to deal with the fucking Corona virus now, does he?

Which, by the way: Batman’s is the perfect no-use-to-fight-Corona mask, isn’t it? Coincidence?

‘Wonder Woman 1984’ Release Date Pushed to Christmas

Warner Bros. has postponed the release of “Wonder Woman 1984,” the latest development in Hollywood’s rocky plans to return to the movies.

The superhero sequel starring Gal Gadot, which was expected to debut on Oct. 2, will now touch down in theaters on Dec. 25, 2020.

“Patty is an exceptional filmmaker and with ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ she has delivered an incredibly dynamic film that moviegoers of all ages around the world will absolutely love,” said Toby Emmerich, Warmer Bros. Motion Picture Group chairman. “We’re very proud of the film and look forward to bringing it to audiences for the holidays.”

Director Patty Jenkins added, “First and foremost let me say how much Gal and I love all our devoted Wonder Woman fans around the world, and your excitement for ‘WW84’ couldn’t make us happier or more eager for you to see the movie. Because I know how important it is to bring this movie to you on a big screen when all of us can share the experience together, I’m hopeful you won’t mind waiting just a little bit longer. With the new date on Christmas Day, we can’t wait to spend the holidays with you!”

Warner Bros. recently took a risk in releasing “Tenet” on the big screen, marking the first major blockbuster to debut since movie theaters closed in March due to the pandemic. The $200 million-budgeted film, from director Christopher Nolan, launched over Labor Day weekend in the U.S. to a muted $20 million. Sources say the studio was waiting to assess domestic ticket sales for “Tenet” before making a decision about moving “Wonder Woman.”

With the delay of “Wonder Woman 1984,” “Tenet” won’t face much competition among ticket buyers and could see a boost in sales in the coming weeks. For now, Disney and Marvel’s comic book adventure “Black Widow” on Nov. 6 is the next major film on calendars. In the meantime, smaller movies like Sony’s romantic comedy “The Broken Hearts Gallery” plan to open this weekend.

Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi epic “Dune,” also from Warner Bros., is still slated to open on Dec. 18, a week prior to “Wonder Woman 1984.” But there’s a good chance that film — starring Timothee Chalamet, Oscar Isaac and Zendaya — will be pushed into 2021 to avoid clashing for attention from audiences. When the first “Dune” trailer dropped earlier this week, it conspicuously lacked a release date.

Nearly 70% of movie theaters in the U.S. have reopened, but important markets like New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco remain closed. Box office analysts suggest that it’s unwise to release big-budgeted movies until those areas can welcome patrons. The first “Wonder Woman,” in 2017, collected over $400 million in North America alone — and the sequel would struggle to even come close to that figure without some of the country’s biggest markets in play.

Warner Bros. has found massive success over the holidays with its DC properties. “Aquaman,” which released in 2018, generated over $1 billion after hitting theaters around Christmastime. The hope, barring a second wave of coronavirus, is that theaters in New York and Los Angeles will be able to open by then.

“Wonder Woman 1984” has been delayed numerous times amid the pandemic. It was originally scheduled for June 5 before moving to Aug. 14 and then Oct. 2.

It’s not entirely surprising that the sequel “Wonder Woman” was postponed again. Four weeks ahead of its October release date, and the studio had hardly done any promotion. “Wonder Woman” is a hugely important franchise for Warner Bros., and the company couldn’t risk mediocre box office receipts. The movie cost roughly $180 million to produce, not counting pricey global marketing fees.

I suspect they may have to stagger this like they’ve done with Tenet.

Christmas week is a very bad time to release a film in the UK (and most of Europe from discussions I’ve had). Cinemas close on 25th December (some on 26th) and traditionally people stay at home with family and watch TV specials.

    Supergirl Ending With Season 6

Supergirl‘s tenure as the resident defender of National City is reaching an unexpectedly early conclusion. The upcoming sixth season of The CW’s superhero series will be its last, TVLine has learned.

Production on Supergirl‘s 20-episode final season is slated to begin later this month; the show’s creative team is already developing storylines.

Melissa Benoist stars as Supergirl‘s titular Kryptonian, leading a cast that includes Chyler Leigh, Katie McGrath, Jesse Rath, Nicole Maines, Andrea Brooks, Azie Tesfai, Julie Gonzalo, Staz Nair and David Harewood. Previous stars included Mehcad Brooks, Jeremy Jordan, Chris Wood, Floriana Lima, Odette Annable and Calista Flockhart.

Supergirl‘s freshman run, which premiered in October 2015 on CBS, averaged 7.7 million total viewers and a 1.7 demo rating (in Live+Same Day numbers). Upon being relocated for Season 2, it slipped to a CW-typical 2.4 mil/0.7. With its most recent, fifth season, the Arrowverse series averaged 840,000 total viewers and a 0.22 demo rating, down a good (but not) 30 percent from Season 4.

Supergirl is part of the newly re-minted “CWverse,” meaning it exists in the same universe as Arrow, The Flash, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Black Lightning, Batwoman and recent DC Universe transplant Stargirl. New seasons of those shows — except Arrow, of course, which wrapped its eight-season run earlier this year — will premiere on The CW sometime in 2021.

    I’m I still blocked? Edit: Nope… I dunno what happened… weird…

    Anyways, I was saying:

I’m surprised it lasted that long… it was a pretty bad show, tbh. Though there IS a rumour that DC/WB/ATT (someone) are changing direction of tone with their content, so that might also be a reason…

At any rate, I don’t see the new Superman lasting all that long tbh, although since it’s Superman, that alone might carry it… but the whole “arrowverse” reached its sell-by date long ago, they should just scrap that whole mess and do something fresh (and better)… The Titans & Doom Patrol model seems the way to go at this point.

To say it has been an honor portraying this iconic character would be a massive understatement. Seeing the incredible impact the show has had on young girls around the world has always left me humbled and speechless. She’s had that impact on me, too. She’s taught me strength I didn’t know I had, to find hope in the darkest of places, and that we are stronger when we’re united. What she stands for pushes all of us to be better. She has changed my life for the better, and I’m forever grateful. I’m so excited that we get to plan our conclusion to this amazing journey, and I cannot wait for you to see what we have in store. I promise we’re going to make it one helluva final season. ♥️ el mayarah 💪 @supergirlcw

Yeah I don’t know… it sent me to a weird anti-spamming page, it asked me to send a message and all that, as soon as I sent it, it allowed me to post, I wasn’t even sure if you’d get a message… who knows…

But anyways, thanks for adding me to the non-spam list… that should fix it =)

HBO Max Orders ‘The Suicide Squad’ TV Spin-Off ‘Peacemaker’ Starring John Cena

HBO Max has called in the Peacemaker – ordering a TV spin-off of James Gunn’s upcoming Suicide Squad movie starring John Cena.

The streamer has handed Peacemaker an eight-episode straight-to-series order for its first season with The Suicide Squad director writing all episodes and directing a number of them.

The show will explore the origins of the character that Cena plays in the 2021 movie.

It marks the latest major DC Comics original on HBO Max and comes after the service revealed it was making a spin-off of Matt Reeves’ upcoming Batman film. DC Universe originals such as Doom Patrol, Harley Quinn, Titans, Swamp Thing, Stargirl, and Young Justice also recently moved to the nascent digital service.

Gunn and The Suicide Squad producer Peter Safran will serve as executive producers of the series, with Cena as co-executive producer.

Peacemaker will be produced by Gunn’s Troll Court Entertainment and The Safran Company in association with Warner Bros. Television. Peacemaker is scheduled to begin production in early 2021, prior to Gunn beginning work on the next Guardians of the Galaxy film.

The character, which was created by Joe Gill and Pat Boyette and first appeared in the Fightin’ 5 series originally owned by Charlton Comics, is a man who believes in peace at any cost — no matter how many people he has to kill to get it.

The first incarnation of Peacemaker is Christopher Smith, a pacifist diplomat and son of a Nazi death camp commandant who founded the Pax Institute who fights dictators and warlords.

The TV series will extend the world that Gunn is creating for the feature film, which is scheduled to be released in theaters by Warner Bros. Pictures on August 6, 2021.

It is Cena’s latest TV and film role; the WWE superstar is set to star in F9, the ninth installment of the Fast & Furious action film franchise, and is set to host TBS’ revival of Wipeout.

“James Gunn has the unique ability to create an expansive universe while also bringing to life the soul and wit of each character. We look forward to a deep dive into the world of Peacemaker,” said Casey Bloys, Chief Content Officer for HBO and HBO Max.

James Gunn said, “Peacemaker is an opportunity to delve into current world issues through the lens of this superhero/supervillain/and world’s biggest douchebag. I’m excited to expand The Suicide Squad and bring this character from the DC film universe to the full breadth of a series. And of course, to be able to work again with John, Peter, and my friends at Warner Bros. is the icing on the cake.”

John Cena added, “I have said before that it has been a tremendous honor and an incredible opportunity to be part of The Suicide Squad and to work with James on what is going to be a fantastic movie. I am unbelievably excited to have the chance to team up with him again for Peacemaker. We can’t wait for fans to see this.”

He wasn’t supposed to start production on GotG3 until after The Suicide Squad is released in a year anyway; this is just something happening during that movie’s two-year-long post-production.
