To be fair, it does look like by-the-numbers James Gunn, down to the ridiculous CG character for Sean Gunn to play.
I think one thing that stands out in the trailers is its visuality. I didn’t care much for Guardians 2 (in comparison to 1), but it did have some very beautiful sequences, and I think we will see the same here.
No but for real, it looks like a well made version of what they wanted the first one to be.
I don’t know, I think the wanted the first one to be gangster really, really hard. Whereas this one is supposed to be balls-to-the-wall fun.
But yeah, it’s obviously very James Gunn. Which is great for me, but if you don’t care for that as much, well.

No I mean what WB wanted it to be, meaning a GotG competitor, to the point they went to the source… Ayer obviously wanted some gangsta shit, as usual.

What a fuckin shit show… literally =P
Everyone on Netflix is binge watching this DC superhero drama you’ve never even heard of
EVERYONE IS WATCHING!
..in the headline.
in the text….
The fourth and final season of the show just got added to Netflix, and while we wait to see how high it’s able to climb the rankings in terms of the top shows on Netflix
Good. The second season was better in every way, and there was no reason for him to still be on the show without Kate to clash with. I wish he’d gotten more of an exit though.
I quite liked this:
I wish he’d gotten more of an exit though.
Did you watch his last episode? He acknowledged his villain daughter, disbanded his rogue police organization and went to jail for his crimes. That is an well documented exit.
I like the characters but it is not a Bat-show anymore. no Waynes, no Kanes, not even a Robin. Time to move on and let it die with Supergirl and Flash.
in other CW news, what is the deal with David Ramsey(John Diggle)? I did not even think he was under contract anymore but he just made 2 totally random appearances in Legends and Batwoman.

He made us believe a man could fly:
Richard Donner Dies: ‘Superman’, ‘Lethal Weapon’ And ‘The Goonies’ Director Was 91
Sorry to hear of his passing. I don’t know that he gets enough credit for his filmography. He essentially invented the superhero movie with Superman. He perfected the buddy-cop movie and inspired a crapload of knock-offs with Lethal Weapon. He somehow directed both a tremendously silly kid’s movie in the Goonies and a suspenseful horror movie in the Omen. Scrooged and Maverick are great fun and somewhat overlooked these days. Not only that but also a handful of Twilight Zone episodes, including the classic Nightmare at 20,000 Feet. What a great body of work he had.

Booked my ticket for The Suicide Squad, which is coming out here a week before the US. I assume part of this is that as soon as it goes on HBO Max, there will be 4K pirate copies of the movie freely available, and unlike with Black Widow, no legal way to get it outside the US, so they want to give it at least one weekend before that’s an option for people.
Hbomax has been opening in many places… all of South America has it now, so I don’t think it would hurt them all that much. Honestly, it’s not a Marvel movie, and IT IS a sequel to a pretty badly regarded movie, so it’s quite possible it won’t do as well as BW, but I don’t think piracy will be the reason for it.
Gotham’s Victoria Cartagena Joins Batwoman as… Renee Montoya
She was completely wasted as Montoya on Gotham. She was a regular for the entire first season, but only appeared in seven episodes, and never got anything to do.

could this woman be this man’s daughter?
I was reading the comments on the link above and it was amusing. A lot of “wrong color” comments but a few self identified as Black yet wanted Barbara to be white skinned which I found fascinating.
I don’t envy Leslie Grace having to deal with the typical “she doesn’t look how this character is supposed to look” crowd. It always seems to be amplified even more when dealing with race or a woman.
In any case, I hope they manage to make a fun Batgirl movie.

I’m not holding my breath.
That’s not really a good idea when dealing with a underwater movie
Superman 2
I know there is controversy over the movie between the theatrical release because Donner was fired and later on released his own cut. Some are on Team Donner, others are on the theatrical release… Ok.
I say each fan should see both versions and splice together the scenes they individually prefer. To each their own. Personally, I liked the end when he tricked the three into losing their powers. Of course, there were some scenes that were very silly, but if you can mentally edit them out and put in some of Donner’s material in its place, you will have your own Superman 2 movie.
Hope this satisfies…
I liked the Reyes version of Blue Beetle. A lot of that due to Giffen and Hamner, of course, but also the Tokusatsu meets Spider-Man concept fit the times. Now there seems to be a resurgence of Tokusatsu material – especially in comics – so I could see a natural fit for television today.

Both versions have some good scenes that aren’t in the other one.
And the original ending is better than the DC ending. If the “Superman spins the world backwards to reverse time” wasn’t bad enough the first time around, Donner gave it to us again. (And, yeah, I know that it was put in the first Superman movie even though it was originally intended for Superman II, but it still feels like a case of “Superman fucks up again, and reverses time to fix everything.” It was a dopey concept to begin with.)
Soooooo… anyone watching Titans? They released 3 episodes of season 3… I saw two… pretty good start, the quality seems to have jumped dramatically as well.
I like the context of this show, kinda reminds me of Generations, an elseworld where stuff happens in real time and the heroes age and all that jazz.
And for the most part I like the cast, specially Barbara, nice of them to actually cast a disabled actress for the role… though I gotta say I still hate Ser Friendzone as Bruce… worst Batman casting ever… and Gordon, even though just a picture, wasn’t a great cast either, so I’m glad we never even saw him.
Not sure about this origin story for the Red Hood… everything happened waaaaaaaaay too quickly, so I hope there’s a good explanation of what’s going on with him at some point. Anyhow, we’ll see how it goes but it’s off to a better start than Season 2.
The first 3 episodes of Titans were very good.
I agree with Jon that Barbara was well cast. She plays off of Nightwing well.
Connor and Gar also are a good pair. I am glad they gave Connor more to do then just fight.
The cinematography is top notch. Kory’s visions look so cool.
Bike shorts Hank was fun.

I believe they did that so we will follow along as Dick solves the mystery.
The kid from Mad Men does a good job with Scarecrow. Making him a weedhead is an interesting choice.
Making him a weedhead is an interesting choice.
Well I don’t wanna spoil anything but that’s probably a plot-related thing…
Vincent Kartheiser is a major new cast addition to Season 3 of the DC series Titans, which is currently airing on HBO Max. But the Mad Men alum, who plays the villain Scarecrow, is not in the poster for the new season and was not actively involved in publicly efforts for the new season after his stint on the show triggered at least two complaints and two internal investigations by Titans studio Warner Bros Television, I have learned. The studio declined comment.
The allegations, which are believed to have included disruptive, juvenile behavior and inappropriate comments, were investigated by WBTV’s Labor Relations department, which interviewed the relevant parties. The investigations were conducted remotely because of Covid protocols that did not allow for Burbank-based investigators to visit the series’ Toronto set.
According to sources, the first investigation into a complaint, said to be about verbal comments and outbursts, concluded that Kartheiser’s behavior didn’t rise to level of termination but did warrant corrective action. The actor was verbally reprimanded by the studio, I hear.
Weeks later, near the end of Season 3 production, WBTV received a second complaint that also was investigated. This time, it resulted in the studio assigning a representative to monitor Kartheiser while he was on set, sources said.
I hear there were other claims about alleged misconduct by Kertheiser raised in the complaints that were also investigated but were not corroborated sources said.
“Vincent Kartheiser vehemently denies the allegations,” a spokesperson for the actor said in a statement to Deadline on Friday. “Warner Bros investigated this matter and made clear to Mr. Kartheiser its expectations for behavior on the set, and he agreed to comply with their directives.”
Kartheiser joined Titans as a new series regular for Season 3 with a one-year deal; he is not expected to return if the show is renewed for Season 4. He plays Jonathan Crane, aka Scarecrow, an inmate at Arkham Asylum who used to terrorize Gotham City using toxins to exploit his enemies’ phobias.
Kartheiser, who has been married to Alexis Bledel since 2014, is best known for portraying Pete Campbell on AMC’s Mad Men for seven seasons. His additional series credits include Casual and The Path, Saints & Strangers, Das Boot and The OA. He also has appeared in the films A Kind of Murder, In Time, Most Likely to Murder and The Most Hated Woman in America.
Still, that report is obviously reaching for the sake of dramatic effect. I wouldn’t blame the reporter as entertainment news is often very sensational because, really, it primarily grew out of gossip columns and paparazzi, but after reading it, can you come to any useful conclusions?
“There were multiple investigations.”
“Really? How many?”
“At least two.”
“Oh my god! What did he do?”
“Verbal outbursts and inappropriate comments.”
“Like what?”
“I don’t know, but I believe it could have included juvenile behavior.”
“On a dark and gritty show about superhero sidekicks?! I can’t believe it! What did the studio do?”
“They verbally reprimanded him.”
“Really?”
“That’s what I hear, anyway.”
“What does that mean?”
“Um… I guess they told him to stop it, maybe.”
“Like, in writing? Officially?”
“No, I heard it was verbal.”
“Who told him?”
“They did? The Studio.”
“Like the entire studio or anyone specific?”
“Not sure. Someone in labor relations, probably.”
“I that just H.R.? Who told you?”
“MMMM. Can’t say. Just sources.”
“And who did he make the comments to? What’s the context there? On set? Off set? To the other actors? To the crew? Did he harass anyone specifically or directly?”
“Well, we have to respect everyone’s privacy, don’t we? Can’t give those sorts of details. You have to make your own conclusions.”
Ugh. Fucking Titans. Yeah, I guess I’ll take a look at some point, given that I managed to somehow make it through the first two seasons.

A nail being stuck in your thigh doesn’t mean you have to hit it with a hammer.
Yeah, it’s perverse. I usually manage to avoid hate-watching, but sometimes there’s that mosquito bite that you have to scratch even though you know it’s going to be bad for you.
Supergirl is back! Let’s start drinking!

No, Patty, turning Wonder Woman into a rapist was a “heartbreaking experience” and the film itself was bad. In a non-COVID-19 world, I truly don’t think the film would have done anywhere nearly as well as the first one.
Anyone who skipped CinemaCon this year out of fear of the pandemic in Las Vegas missed a spitfire of a luncheon chat Thursday afternoon. Not only was Patty Jenkins smashing the theatrical day-and-date model, and wagging a finger at exhibition over the decline in the moviegoing experience, but also Paramount Domestic Distribution Boss Chris Aronson put Marcus Theatres CEO and president Rolando Rodriguez in check over exhibitors’ ticket pricing.
When, natch, asked about the hindsight of Wonder Woman 1984 going theatrical day-and-date on HBO Max, Jenkins exclaimed, “It was the best choice in a bunch of bad choices at the moment” and a “heartbreaking experience.” Back in December, Warner Bros sent its entire 2021 theatrical release slate day-and-date with HBO Max due to its outlook on the lingering pandemic (which, the studio wasn’t wrong about). The first film to go day-and-date in theaters and on Warners’ streaming service was Wonder Woman 1984 over Christmas weekend; it was also at a time when B.O. capitals New York City and Los Angeles remained closed.
Wonder Woman 1984 wound up opening to a paltry $16.7 million versus the first 2017 pic’s pre-pandemic stateside start of $103.2M. Wonder Woman 1984‘s immediate availability on HBO Max also saw the pic quickly pirated. The pic through 17 days was watched by 3.9M U.S. terrestrial households, per Samba TV.
“It was detrimental to the movie,” said Jenkins about the DC sequel that grossed $46.5M domestic, $166.5M worldwide. “I knew that could have happened.”
“I don’t think it plays the same on streaming, ever,” she said about the sequel, before exclaiming, “I’m not a fan of day-and-date and I hope to avoid it forever.”
“I make movies for the big-screen experience,” said the director, whose first installment of the female superhero saw a spectacular gross of $822.8M WW.
“I won’t make one,” said Jenkins if she’d ever make a movie for Netflix, meaning one with a short theatrical window that then segues to streaming.
“I like working with Netflix for television, I wouldn’t make a movie there or any streaming service with those terms,” she said. “It’s hard to market a movie when it has a limited run.”
At the top of the panel, Jenkins criticized exhibition on how the quality of the moviegoing experience has waned in recent years with auditoriums at “80% of their volume.” Also the “diversity of content” has plummeted, something she blamed on studios and the terms they wage for big pics and holding over. She did shout-out luxury dine-in chain iPic for creating a first-class moviegoing experience with its recliners, waiters and a blanket.
Earlier in the panel, Rodriguez tooted the old horn that MPAA chairman Jack Valenti use to at ShoWests of yore about how moviegoing is the best entertainment value for a family, better than seeing live sporting events. He also touted how large-format screens like Imax are driving ticket sales.
Aronson had some words to say on this.
“I think it’s a fallacy comparing going to the movies to live sporting events. Live sporting events are a once-only experience,” said the Paramount Domestic Distribution chief, pointing out how the moviegoing experience is the same at any hour of the day.
“That experience quality should be the same,” argued Aronson. “You can’t compare the price of movie tickets to a NFL or NBA game.”
“Pricing is an issue in our business. If we simply rely on large format (pricing), attendance will continue to go down and down,” continued Aronson.
“We need to figure out how more people can go to the movies,” said Aronson.
Rodriguez responded that he has $5 Tuesday popcorn deals.
“You should figure out another day in the week to use that deal,” answered Aronson.
Mark Zoradi, CEO of Cinemark, was also on today’s panel. The former Disney executive said he’s heard publicly and privately that “every content provider is going back to an exclusive theatrical window, that it’s good for the business.”
Zoradi added that a recent Ernst & Young study showed that streaming and moviegoing aren’t consumer Sophie’s choices.
Added Zoradi, “People who stream more in the home, they go to the movies as well.”
Los Angeles Times film business reporter Ryan Faughnder moderated the riveting session this afternoon.
WW84 was such a big disappointment. Aside from the general charm of Gadot and Pine there was nothing good about that movie. Covid might have actually sheltered that movie from larger backlash.
Also, directors can moan all they want, but WB were pretty much right about their COVID projections… although, let’s be fair, it wasn’t such a hard read to make… I know every director wants their movie in theaters, but in terms of business, it was probably the right call to cut their losses theatrically and try to boost their straming platform instead.

Well, it would seem they turned Titans into a Gotham/Bat-family show… =P
I mean, hey, it works a lot better than the 2 previous seasons, so I’m good with that, but yeah, this is basically a Bat-show featuring some Titans…

That’s pretty much the description of 60% of the DC comics on the shelves at the moment. It seems that Batman is the only thing that sells, in any medium.
Well I mean it’s not completely out of the blue since they did introduce Jason and Bruce last season, and so it feels natural… but yeah, at this point it’s all Gotham all the way… I’m kinda liking it though, a different interpretation, but it works for me… however, I do like the bleak interpretations, so I’m sure it’s not for everyone.
Well, it would seem they turned Titans into a Gotham/Bat-family show… =P
The last 2 episodes have been a bit filler-y for me. The most recent one is probably my least favorite of this season. The idea that Dick and Barbara become jewel thieves because they are rebelling against perceived roles was weak imo. I did like the staves moment. Tim returned but it felt like it was shoe horned into the plot. If they are not going to advance the main plot much, then switch to Rachel/Donna story. I admit I am biased toward Donna but I hope they can get around to that story before long.
That’s pretty much the description of 60% of the DC comics on the shelves at the moment. It seems that Batman is the only thing that sells, in any medium.
It’s a genuine thing. I’ll often push back at Rob Liefeld’s take on stuff but he pointed out that only Batman sells for DC and when I checked that against the Diamond charts at the time he was pretty much correct. All the top 10 DC books had Batman as a lead or major character in them. The much hyped and pretty well critically received Bendis run on Superman was selling really average numbers. Something like Venom was beating it by double numbers.
It’s not always been the case, in the 80s the Teen Titans and Legion sold the most but in recent times if you had to generate a formula to sell DC comics it would be just stick Batman in it.

It is interesting – it’s not “Marvel vs DC” It’s “Marvel vs The Batman & Co.”
INJUSTICE Red-Band Trailer:
Aquaman 2: Next DC Film Casts New Villains – IGN link
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is making more waves with its cast. Warner Bros. has tapped Jani Zhao, Indya Moore, and Vincent Regan to star alongside Jason Momoa in the DC sequel, per The Hollywood Reporter.
Additionally, Randall Park has been confirmed to reprise his role as marine biologist Dr. Stephen Shin from the first film.
Zhao will play Stingray, an original character created for the movie. It is currently unclear where her allegiances will lie in the film. Zhao has an expansive catalog of TV credits in Portugal. The new Aquaman will mark her English-language feature debut.
Moore will portray Karshon, a character that originally appeared as a Green Lantern villain. Originally a shark, Karshon gained an intelligence and telepathic abilities after getting mixed up with some radiation. Moore was a main cast member on the FX series Pose. They also had featured roles in 2019’s Queen & Slim and this year’s Escape Room: Tournament of Champions.
Regan has been cast as Atlan. Atlan is the ancient ruler of Atlantis who forced the kingdom to sink beneath the ocean. The character was played by Graham McTavish in a brief appearance in the first Aquaman. Regan is no stranger to action blockbusters, having starred in films like 300, Snow White and the Huntsman, and Clash of the Titans.
Zhao, Moore, Regan, and Park join an expansive ensemble that includes many returning cast members from the first Aquaman, including Patrick Wilson, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Amber Heard, and Dolph Lundgren.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is set to hit theaters on December 16, 2022.
Zhao will play Stingray, an original character created for the movie.
It’s a shame that there are so few characters in the 80 years of Aquaman comics that they already need to make up new ones for the movies.
