And honestly, Snyder already captured A LOT of the iconic imagery of DKR in a spectacular fashion, plus BvS is very DKR-ish already as it is. I would honestly prefer that Batfleck directed Batfleck movie with Deathstroke.

True – I think people generally underestimate how hard a direct adaptation of most of the greatest Batman comics would be. Or any of the classic graphic novels from the same period. I think Sandman will have to be considerably different from the original (mainly because it is a decades long story, literally, in the comics.) I can see elements of the comics being used in movies, not actual adaptations. Grant Morrison’s Batman run – and JLA run – has a lot of good ideas that could translate to movies, but no part of it would be suitable to adapt directly to a film either.

At the same time, none of the movies from Tim Burton’s to Christopher Nolan’s would have made for good comic book stories either.

I thought the Snyder Cut was entertaining enough, but this guy, annoying voice and everything, does sum up the frustrating parts of the movie:

  • #65075

Any thoughts and opinions on Snyder doing a DKR movie?

I’d be happy to see a proper straight adaptation of the book, and I suspect Snyder would, in this case, make a really, really good movie. With there being so many different versions of Batman and The Joker out there now, there’s really no reason why WB shouldn’t go for it, either. Just hand Snyder some cash (he’ll be able to do this relatively cheaply) and have him do it. It’d be cool.

Meh… that’s the typical contrarian video about how something sucks then proceeds to list a bunch of nitpicky reasons… But looking at the name of the channel, that’s probably his whole shtick, which isn’t very original tbh… it’d be funnier if he actually said something new, but nah, it’s the same old nitpicks…

  • #65286

It’s really an easy answer. If “All the things WB…” includes The Dark Knight, I’m going with that one.

Honestly, all I want to see Snyder doing is direct adaptations of comic book classics. We should be fine as long as he sticks to that.

Of course, the terrible Army of the Dead is apparently the most successful Netflix movie of all time, so, you know. Expect a lot more Snyder zombie-verse!

    …yay?

I’m not liking that costume too much… the thunderbolt is too small, the wing-y design that comes into it from the shoulders looks a bit strange (the angle and the curves) and also, there are some silvery bits that look like mocap markers, and a black bit above the belt… it’s a bit better than the first one I guess, but not by much…

I guess it looks like something out of Jupiter’s legacy, and that ain’t a good thing, tbh… because yeah, it’s okay, but mediocre overall. The fake foam muscles are a bit too pronounced too, but that’s usually something that gets fixed with proper lighting and post, so I’m not gonna remove points for that much, unless again, it ends up looking like the JL ones…

Finally got around to watching the Snyder Cut.

Overblown, overbearing, hyperbolic – at times, yeah, but it also has a very clear aesthetic and style.

One surprise was how fast I adjusted to the 4:3 format.  Another was how much the new material added and how spacing it out made the story woprk far better.  There were also clearer links to both MoS and BvS.  Darkseid, green lanterns, Martian Manhunter are the obvious ones but there’s probably more I missed.

The biggest surprise was that I found the supposedly cliffhanger ending to not really be so.  Or rather it ended in a way that hinted at future stories that might or might not happen but it didn’t like a “to be continued”, leave everything hanging never to be concluded. Maybe in earlier versions it did, but knowing this was it for him, Snyder took the edge off of it.

Do the infamous slo-mo effects work? Yeah, they do.  From the off DC went, via Snyder, with a “gods among us” approach.  This set them apart from Marvel’s more grounded, “anyone can become a hero” take.  But in doing this, it meant they had to amp up the powers – so they did.  In the Snyder Cut, there is the most distilled sense of this – the idea that they have to be slowed down because it would be too fast without it.

I have no idea how anyone would see this in the cinema but for an afternoon, with liberal use of the pause button for snacks and refuelling?  It was a fun way to spend a Sunday.

There’s a ten minute break, scored also by Junkie XL, for cinema showings, however there’ve been VERY few of those, and won’t be many more… Snyder just got the okay for like a couple dozen cinema showings, for some reason, and it’s very possible it won’t get released beyond that… although they REALLY should release it for a good imax-only run, plus I’m sure theaters would appreciate it.

Other than that, glad you enjoyed it… =)

Finally, a DC movie I can get behind.

After my initial delight at this news, the more I’ve thought about it the more I realise how awful this is going to be.

I adore super-pets. But the only way they work is if they are treated with 100% seriousness. Nobody in the Pets’ world should ever question the concept or point out how silly it is, because as soon as you do, or the movie cracks a self-referential joke, you hold up how ludicrous it is, the entire suspension of disbelief collapses, and the whole movie becomes a joke.

And I have zero confidence in a WB animated film pulling that off. We’ll end up with something like Lego Batman.

I think it would work with the same level of commitment as BIG HERO 6 or INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE. A solid story with superpowered animals – and maybe Bat-Mite. I’d love to see Imps return to DC and comedy is the only way to use them.

Personally, I’d enjoy the perspective that the pets consider their owners to be their pets – essentially humans, even superheroes, are too incompetent to be left to their own devices and the pets think they need to take care of them. I would also like the idea that non-humanoid advanced alien races consider Krypto to be the most powerful and intelligent creature on Earth and they also think pets must obviously be in charge of the planet considering they have all their needs provided by the humans.

I’m sad about this. I too adore super pets but I am tired of the Rock/Hart show. Ace is like his master. quiet and menacing. NO WAY Kevin Hart does quiet/menacing. i hope that Hart does not get a role in Black Adam. Rock is doing a job at making Adam sinister i believe Hart would ruin it.

It’s definitely not a show for everyone. It’s a hard r rated, raunchy and violent show. My girlfriend and I enjoy the hell out of it. King Shark is great and I think they’ve done a solid job with Harley and Ivy’s relationship. But it certainly wants to push every envelope it can.
