We probably need a thread for this!
Looking forward to ‘Joker’.

Wait where the fuckity fuck is the real DC movies thread… you know… the Man of Steel thread??? u_u
I think that we should let the Man of Steel debate die with old-Millarworld.
We need to move on and talk about stuff like BvS.
Ten years ago, Slade Wilson—aka the super-assassin called Deathstroke—made a tragic mistake and his wife and son paid a terrible price. Now, a decade later, Wilson’s family is threatened once again by the murderous Jackal and the terrorists of H.IV.E. Can Deathstroke atone for the sins of the past—or will his family pay the ultimate price?
Anyone watching Titans? I mean, I liked season 1 but this season is just bad
Anyone watching Titans? I mean, I liked season 1 but this season is just bad
I don’t have DC Universe, so I haven’t watched it (I have watched season 3 of Young Justice when someone puts it online), but I have heard here and there that season 2 is pretty bad.
I am… I thought the first epsiode was REALLY bad, it’s been getting better… I’ve liked it so far. It’s no Doom Patrol for sure, but it’s okay.
Anyone watching Titans? I mean, I liked season 1 but this season is just bad
Care to elaborate? I watched season 1 on Netflix Australia and thought it was so so – worth watching but not amazing. Doom Patrol was better. Minka Kelly is great ro watch though
What is it exactly about Season 2 that’s such a dip in quality?
I didn’t like the pilot for GOTHAM very much, so I never bothered to watch any more of it. However, it really picks up in just a few episodes. Gordon is all right, but all the other characters, especially Bullock and Pennyworth are much more interesting.
Fish Mooney, however, is acting in another show altogether. Not sure if she really fits in all this.
No-one knows what a show is when it starts, unless it’s a cookie-cutter copy of something else.
.
‘Gotham’ was roundly dismissed when it was announced. Who was going to watch a show set in Gotham but with no Batman???
.
Then it runs for five years.
Have I ranted about DC television? I don’t Think I have.
What do we (I) want to see from DC on television? Batman and Superman!
What do we get from DC? Everything except Batman and Superman. To be more specific: Everything that will remind us constantly that we don’t get Batman and Superman.
Smallville – 150 seasons of not yet Superman getting things straight so that he will become Superman. Every other character from every DC comic makes an appearance (except Batman of course). When Superman finally becomes Superman, the show ends.
Arrow – He’s a millionaire vigilante, but not Batman.
Supergirl – Well, at least Superman shows up.
Gotham – Starring all characters from Batman comics, except Batman.
Krypton – Starring Supermans home planet, but not Superman.
Batwoman – Oh, come on!
Not gonna lie, that’s super stupid and I don’t know why they do that… But then again, considering the abysmal quality of most of those shows, it’s just as well they don’t use them… =/
I do wonder with the coming of HBO Max if they will do true Batman and Superman series at some point. I mean, that would be a great enticement to sign up for the streaming service.
It’s the same reason you’re not going to get an Iron Man, Captain America or Thor TV show. Those properties are going to be film. The second and third tier properties are more likely to have television shows.
.
This might change as streaming changes dynamics but I think it will be a while.
Sorry Johnny, hit report instead of reply. Fish Mooney gets sidelined fairly quickly so maybe she was trying to be in a different show. IMO, The actors that did stay were very good. After watching all 5 seasons, it looks like it was the origin stories for several Batman villains.
It’s the same reason you’re not going to get an Iron Man, Captain America or Thor TV show.
I get that, and I understand that it would be logistically difficult to maintain continuity between the big screen and small screen activities; still, it would be nice if the TV shows had more moments like the time Sif showed up in an episode of Agents of SHIELD.
So anyways, I watched the Batwoman pilot… I’m completely fine with Ruby Rose as Kate, but the rest is pretty much super drecky, like every other tired & lame WB show… the bat costume is just pathetic, too… I know they’ll tweak it a bit for her, but fuck man, that’s one of the worst batman costumes I’ve seen.
Anyhoo, I might check the second episode but it just looks like it’s gonna be yet another mediocre Arrow clone… it’s always the same stupid ass formula, and I’m not really interested at all.
Ohhh full hour of Connor Kent and Krypto? Yes please… =P
As always, take with a grain of salt:
There was a scene with at least 4 actors tonight at the set.
David Ramsey, Katherine McNamara and Matt Ryan…. no surprises there.
They did a scene with Tom Ellis dressed like Lucifer Morningstar.
Yes, you read that correct.#CrisisOnInfiniteEarths— Canadagraphs (@canadagraphs) October 12, 2019

Zoe Kravitz to Play Catwoman in ‘The Batman’
.
“Big Little Lies” star Zoe Kravitz has been tapped to play Catwoman, the antiheroine and sometime love interest of the Caped Crusader, in Matt Reeves’ upcoming “The Batman.”
.
Kravitz will star opposite Robert Pattinson as Batman.
.
Pre-production on the Warner Bros.-DC Comics pic is expected to start this summer. No official start date has been set, although insiders tell Variety that filming could start in late 2019 or early 2020. “The Batman” is scheduled to hit theaters June 25, 2021.

Zoe Kravitz to Play Catwoman in ‘The Batman’
.
Ok, so the timing described there is a little confused? We’re past summer 2019, so pre-production has definitely started, unless they’re mean filming could start late 2020 or early 2021? I assume filming is actually starting this year?
.
Anyway, good choice for Selina.
I’m guessing they copy/pasted that bit from when Pattinson was cast.
Good point, very likely.
I thought Kravitz was underused as Catwoman in Lego Batman, so I’m glad we’re getting more of her.
Interesting choice. Joining her stepdad in the DCEU.
I’ve yet to see anything with Zoe Kravitz that’s stood out to me, but hopefully she ends up a good Catwoman.
In the UK, Sky won’t be showing Batwoman as the rights weren’t for sale. Warner Brothers are wanting to save the show for their streaming service, making it difficult for UK viewers to watch the full Crisis on Infinite Earths legally. 🙄

Ugh.
So the only ones who will know the full details of COIE will be the psycho pirates?
Zoe Kravitz Was Once Considered Too ‘Urban’ To Be In Batman. Well, Now She’s Catwoman
And that’s how it’s done
Jonah Hill no longer circling The Batman
Jonah Hill was courted to play either Riddler or the Penguin, and now the studio is circling other, unnamed actors for this antagonist role in the film. Deadline said that Warner Bros. was (in the past tense) interested in Seth Rogen for the role of Penguin, but “no offers or talks occurred.”
Seth Rogen and Jonah Hill are weird choices for a Batman movie.
Here’s Your First Look at Crisis on Infinite Earth’s Big Bad, the Anti-Monitor
And if you don’t feel like clicking:
I understand sometimes every show had a small budge, but the make-up on his face is not great, i bet the internet easily memeing or comparing him to White Walker.

You’d win that bet.
What, you honestly believe this thing will actually be good??? xD
Although, credit to them, they’re going soooo all out on shit that I’ll probably check it out, unless I forget which is also quite probable.

The language nerd in me is interested in the use of the word “circling” here. When Jonah Hill is courted, he is the one “circling”. When the studio courts unnamed actors, it’s the studio that is “circling”.
.
If I were the cynical type I would think that Deadline journalists/sub-eds didn’t know how to write. But I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt and assume it’s a modern idiom that can mean both things, like “sick” or “bad” etc.
I like the choice for Spectre. I loved him in Continuum.
I watched Flash and Arrow last night. We got our first look at how the Crisis will look. Obviously Flash and Arrow each have their own CGI departments because it looked different on each show. I can’t get spoilers to work so i am not going to get into detail but I think Arrow killed off 2 important characters from Flash without any mention. Oliver’s first trip to another universe took him to a very familiar universe and that universe was the first to die.
RIP Harry and Jesse Wells
Spoiler tags work differently on this board. You can’t embed them in paragraphs like the old one. You have to do them on a separate line.
Paul Dano to play The Riddler in The Batman
Paul Dano is in talks to join Robert Pattinson in Matt Reeves and Warner Bros. “The Batman,” Though the studio would not confirm the role, insiders believe the part Dano would be playing if the deal closes, is the classic comic villain The Riddler.

You can do them within a paragraph by {spoiler}doing this{/spoiler} but with square brackets instead of wiggly ones. But the code will still then split the spoiler onto its own line in the final post.
What Dave says
I’d have preferred Jim Parsons, but I have no objections.
I’m up to episode 8 of Doom Patrol now. They even did Danny the Street! It’s a remarkable show. My favourite thing to watch right now, really.
I’ve just seen someone on Twitter claim that Joaquin Phoenix is the best version of the Joker, and I’m like
you can wish all you want but it won’t erase Cesar Romero from history
I predict he will actually be a hero after all.
Very cool man, thank you.
Amazing detail.
This project has been with me for over 10yrs🖤⚡️
Production begins this July.

I actually think Phoenix’s joker is kind of boring when compared to the pan tyomime versions of Nicholson and Romero.
As of now, I’m inclined to rank him lower on the ranking of popular takes. Probably just above Letos, which is conceptually terrible.
Is Ledger being bumped down though? Still haven’t seen the movie, but something tells me Ledger is still gonna be considered the “best Joker”.
Yeah, i think Ledgers take is more interesting then Phoenixs

Speaking of weird old versions… man I just can’t hang with Titan’s Bruce Wayne… I mean, Ser Friendzone is a good actor and all, but I just can’t get past a blonde balding Alfred-looking Bruce… like wtf… plus he’s also waaaay too old, even considering Dick’s age… I dunno whose stupid idea that was =/

‘Joker’ now at $737m globally.
.
What will Warners learn from that? Will dark and gritty be the way to go again?
That of DCs last 7 top grossing films 3 featured the joker and 4 featured batman?
Aquaman, Wonder woman and Harley Quin also seem to be popular so… Batman v Oscar winming actor playing Joker v Harkey Quinn v Aquaman v Wonder Woman?
What will Warners learn from that?
The guy who cut the trailer needs a raise.
What will Warners learn from that? Will dark and gritty be the way to go again?
Hopefully, it’ll be a more general lesson: It’s a good idea to now and then release mid-budget movies that break the mold a little; it doesn’t all have to be big action-adventure CGI stuff that follow more-or-less the same template.

Also, the movie doesn’t have to tie into an established “universe”. It can stand on it’s own and doesn’t need to generate sequels.

Release the Snyder cut??

Agreed. I haven’t watched that episode yet, but even when he was cast I didn’t quite understand the logic. And after seeing him in the first episode of season 2 I still didn’t get who decided that was a good idea. Good actor, but not the right fit for the show. Do a live action Batman Beyond and he probably would have been a better fit.

I think that’s what they’re going for… maybe? but it’s weird ’cause supposedly he’s still active… Plus, again, Dick isn’t that old… so who knows… but eh, don’t like it at all… at least so far.
Considering that he’s been consistently the best thing about Flash, they would be mad to lose him. They probably devote 50% of their script meetings to asking, “What whacky new thing can we do to keep Tom entertained this season?”

You mean like this?

I’m not sure why that would be a big deal in the context of the movies. She’s killed loads of people, hasn’t she?
If Diana snaps Max’s neck, I am boycotting all DC movies forever.
If that happens, it won’t be in 1984. They’ll build him up in as a good guy, and then Snyder gets to have her break his neck in the next JL movie.

I hope he just does the job himself this time.
.
Enough people (comic book fans) know about Max’s storyline, that non-comics fans have a good chance of being let in on his true nature, whether they want to be or not.
.
I’m interested in whether that’s played a role in how they use him in the movie?
.
And the man himself;
.
Hey @Jim do you still have those strips where you played Max O’hara in the SFL?
However they use him in the movie, it will never be as good as Max O’Hara
