Sean Gordon Murphy’s crowd funded, creator owned book has gone live. It’s really expensive to ship to the UK, but I’m all in for the hardcover.

Reeves & Kindt, with Ron Garney on art is a pretty awesome creative team. I’ll be picking this up for sure. Hope it’s good.
I won’t be joining the Kickstarter though. With shipping the cheapest tier works out at close to $150 for three TPBs. That’s crazy!

I agree. This looks like a nice way for Boom to get some cash out of mega-fans and those outside the usual reach of the world of comics, but I’ll check this out through the usual channels I think.

I found the first collection of his graphic novel FIRST KINGDOM (collecting issues 1-6) waaaaay back in 1978; it’s still a valued part of my collection. I didn’t know anything about him at the time, but the scope and sweep of that book, and the Alex-Raymondesque artwork, just blew me away.

I like Klaus but those prices are asking a bit much for me. Plus I already have the stories in the oversized hardcover editions Boom already released previously.

To be fair, the hardcover omnibus at the moment is $60 + shipping. Which is cheaper than the three previous hardcovers’ at cover price. It’s only the slipcased and signed editions that are ridiculously expensive.
But, yeah, if you’ve got the earlier ones (I don’t) there’s probably not much here to warrant an upgrade.

Kickstarter for Sean Murphy’s Zorro book:
Book looks like it could be interesting but the prices are ridiculous, I’ll just buy the retail versions at a fraction of the cost.

I agree. That’s kind of where I am too. I want the hardcover, but $50 plus shipping for a four issue mini series collection is a bit rich. If there was something additional to that tier I might be tempted.
I also struggle with crowd funding for projects from comic book publishers. These issues will eventually come out at my LCS for $4 a comic. Why would I pledge such inflated prices for a few different covers, especially when I’ll end up getting them after the on sale date in store (when you factor in international shipping).
It’s one thing when it’s a creator trying to do it themselves or it’s Kickstarter exclusive (even if only temporarily), but I don’t see the advantage to me in this case.

I felt the same around that Expanse comic Kickstarter if it turns out to be good, it’ll be a lot cheaper to buy from my LCS.

Zorro #1 is in the January solicitations – $4.99 an issue. Quite a bit cheaper than the kickstarter version.
