“What we’re doing on Gray Man that’s different [is]… we’re not gonna answer every question in the first movie,” explained Joe Russo. “This is being conceived as a series of films, and again, potentially branching out, we could follow other characters, but we’re not gonna answer every question in the movie. So you’re gonna finish the movie, [and] have a complete story, but you’re still gonna have questions about the wider universe. And I think that’s one way to break the model a little bit, is to not give the audience everything in one film. Don’t have a close-ended narrative. Have an open-ended narrative that’s [like] a chapter in a book.”
Congratulations to the Russos on discovering sequels, something they apparently think has never existed before?
What I’ve always loved about the MCU movies is that the first few films (IRON MAN, INCREDIBLE HULK, THOR) were created to stand alone as self-contained stories, the only links being those mid- and post-credit scenes that hinted at a larger shared universe and story. If you never saw IRON MAN or INCREDIBLE HULK, you were still able to enjoy THOR. It wasn’t until the first CAPTAIN AMERICA film and THE AVENGERS that you started seeing threads and characters and themes (the Tesseract, for one) that began tying all the films together; by then Marvel knew they had a built-in audience that would come out to see each film, so they had more confidence in world-building without having to explain things over and over again.
Too many other film franchises assume that the movie audience is willing to accept part of a story that, by itself, makes very little sense, but that’s an arrogant assumption, even for the Russo Brothers.
Yep. Isn’t this kind of thing what scuppered the Tom Cruise reboot of The Mummy?
How is that even legal?
Allowing Mario Lopez to “act”; How is that even legal?
Clarified that for you, Christian.
Most anticipated trailer of the year…
So, if someone was to watch that movie would there be some toplessness, or more?
Also, could/should there be other movies in the same vein with crossovers?
(I bet Wendy(‘s) is hot!)
I’m asking for a friend.
Bob Odenkirk going full action hero is awesome.
If it’s an option in February, I would like to see this in a cinema.
Sister Act 3: Breaking The Habit
So, if someone was to watch that movie would there be some toplessness, or more?
Nope, for that, you need to wait for the Extra Crispy version.

Harrison Ford back as Indiana for the 5th and final…
He is getting up there. I didn’t like his appearance in the Force Awakens. Imagine him now jumping around etc. Maybe they can do that CGI trick to de-age him like what was done to DeNiro in a recent movie.
Harrison Ford is 78 years old.
“Indiana Jones and the Retirement Home of Doom”
I mean, they were doing these jokes when the last Indiana Jones movie came out, and that was 12 years ago now.

The Black List 2020 Scorecard: Scripts By Agency & Management Company
WARNING: It’s a link to the Sun website, so don’t click if you don’t want to give Big Rupe your clicks, but the audio is clearly Tom Cruise. As a producer on the movie, it’ll cost him big if production has to be shut down again, but he’s not wrong that it will also cost a lot of people their livelihood if that happens.
Finally the heat is off Christian Bale.
Here’s a better link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_x1OBZqc8FQ
I agree with his point 100%, not sure it really needs all the sweary histrionics. I get the point fairly quickly that he’s going to fire anyone who breaks the rules again.
What we haven’t seen are all the conversations that occurred before it finally reached this point. I doubt this is the first time.
I’m certain it wasn’t (his words infer it isn’t the first time) but in any workplace I’m not a fan of people screaming and swearing at staff. The threat of termination for failing to follow instructions is enough.
That’s very true. It did seem like the tone was calming down toward the end.
Actually, this is a reason I’m actually more in favor of the more corporate business style that is taking over entertainment production. Though it will affect the quality for a time in some instances – we’ve really seen a rise in creativity in television shows which have always been much more corporate and straightforward when compared to movie production. However, I think the introduction of more corporate business practices has been useful in preventing abuse and harassment on sets and studio offices. I believe it is part of the reason Harvey Weinstein and others could no longer flagrantly get away with the same behavior they had all through the 90’s.
A lot of people are going to resist it – particularly directors, but often, except in a few cases, the director is usually the most replaceable position on any production. Just looking at that video, obviously Tom Cruise, not the director, is in charge of that movie.
Exactly. I’ve looked at workplaces where that kind of aggressive culture was the norm, tabloid newspapers being one and they generally have a toxic culture and a lot of very poor standards. We see it in Hollywood and lets’s be honest that’s been pretty badly exposed in the last few years for being a shitshow of harrassment and coercion.
I briefly had a boss who liked an approach of shouting and swearing, I left an unpleasant environment and he was sacked a year later for promoting a girl he was having a secret affair with. The shouting to me tended to make staff freeze up and make more mistakes.
Sometimes people are shit at their jobs and need to go, and that’s true if these guys keep flouting the Covid regulations on set, but I think you can do it all without the aggression and drama.
Well, he is an actor, so a little bit of drama isn’t exactly unexpected.
I don’t disagree, but I am glad that he’s putting such an emphasis on keeping to the covid rules. The argument he’s making is actually also pretty clear, and he keeps talking about the consequences and why this is important (in contrast to the Bale thing, who is getting extremely personal and humiliating the guy actively).
But yeah. Could’ve done with less of the aggresion.
Sometimes people are shit at their jobs and need to go, and that’s true if these guys keep flouting the Covid regulations on set, but I think you can do it all without the aggression and drama.
Honestly, if it’s a choice between blowing up on set and termination, I would just fire the offenders. I think that would get the message across much more effectively. I actually think it is likely those guys did not make it through the day anyway.
I didn’t see it, but we all know Tom Cruise is intense… and possibly insane. But he’s not wrong to yell at people. People are dumb, they need to be yelled at from time to time.
Script for Stan Lee biopic, Excelsior! makes this year’s Black List.
I still maintain you could make a great Mad Men-style TV series about Marvel based on Sean Howe’s “Marvel Comics: The Untold Story.” In an ideal world it would last 4 seasons, with each season concentrating on a single decade, 60s to 90s. (I have little interest in a season 5.)

Big smile on my face watching that. Eddie Murphy was a comedy god when I was a kid and it’s just great to see these characters again.
Also, it looks like it might actually be funny.
The first non-WW84 film for the HBO Max deal.
That was pretty funny, I am hereby cautiously, casually, optimistic.
Yeah, I’ll watch Coming 2 America. I mean, I must’ve seen the original a dozen times. It’ll be fun to me no matter what.
Also, The Little Things looks really good. First time in a long while that a trailer for a thriller really made me want to watch the movie.
Flash Gordon gets warning for ‘potentially offensive’ Ming the Merciless
Flash Gordon gets warning for ‘potentially offensive’ Ming the Merciless
The organisation gave Flash Gordon a 12A rating for its reissue – more strict than the A rating it was given on its original release, which is roughly equivalent to a PG today.
BBFC senior policy officer Matt Tindall said that was because the outdated portrayal of Flash Gordon’s nemesis, as well as some violence and bad language.
He said: “Ming the Merciless is coded as an East Asian character due to his hair and make-up, but he’s played by a Swedish actor in the film, he’s played by Max Von Sydow, which I don’t think is something that would happen if this were a modern production, and is something that we’re also aware that viewers may find dubious if not outright offensive.
No kidding. I mean, he’s called Ming the Merciless. Is he a racist stereotype? Hm, let’s think about this…
Speaking on a BBFC podcast, Mr Tindall said: “This is something that we have to bear in mind often when we see older films coming in for reclassification – films that might contain discriminatory depictions or stereotypes that are not acceptable to modern audiences, including films where discrimination wasn’t the work’s intent, just a reflection of the period in which it was made.
“This is an issue that we’re currently planning to explore more through research next year, speaking to the public to check that they’re happy with the way we’re classifying such films and the way we classify issues of discrimination more generally.”
Well, okay, I guess.
Yeah, I don’t see it as a problem really. There are plenty of old books and movies that were once deemed suitable for kids but which contain racist elements that you now probably wouldn’t want them exposed to without some greater context and awareness around those aspects. It comes up a lot in kids’ books from past generations.
I’m much more in favour of these kinds of moves to make people aware of the content than I am edits of the original (not that you could really edit Ming out of Flash Gordon in this case!).
I drouble with stuggle negatives, youde.

It’s one thing I like about the modern BBFC, they are very transparent and a lot of what they do is surveying the public on what they think should fit into what category. If tastes change and say a swear word is deemed more or less offensive over time they’ll shift it up or down the age categories.
The version when I was growing up was very much ‘this is what we think the public should consume’.
If anything, isn’t it better to have him played by a non-Asian, to make it obvious that the character is not actually Asian? Otherwise you’re just doubling-down on the negative Asian stereotype.
Assuming that Earth is the only planet that has an Asia is SO racist…

Ackshually, it’s speciesist.

I cheated.
I was pretty sure it was going to be OTHERR.
Two R’s.
It wasn’t.
I first thought it was Clerks with hallucinogens used instead of weed.
p.s. The Little Things does look good but I find it cynically amusing that it comes out 1 month and a few days after WW84. “hey guys i know you all bought Hbomax for a month to see WW84 but why don’t you stick around for another month and watch The Little Things”
Well I mean, they desperatly need the subscribers… =P
But hey, there’s a new Titans season and the Snyder cut coming soon-ish, so if you’re a DC fan, you might as well stick with the subscription for the moment.
People who subscribe should REALLY check out Doom Patrol though… they’ve been missing some great TV.
Man, I hope Doom Patrol keeps coming out on amazon prime here. If not, I’ll have to buy it, as I am not getting an HBO Max subscription anytime soon.
And yes. Everybody should be watching Doom Patrol. And nobody should be watching Titans.
This is where Warners are lacking a global strategy really. Netflix and Amazon have pretty much completed theirs, Disney Plus is rolling one out gradually. HBO Max doesn’t really seem to have a plan.
I was listening to the Pilot TV podcast and they thought Warners was actually a better brand than HBO as they’ve never had a channel there but I’m not so sure. I think plenty of people know the HBO brand from the ident at the start of their shows even if they are carried on other stations and it has a reputation for quality.
Margot Robbie Teases Her Upcoming Barbie Movie: ‘Whatever You’re Thinking, It’s Not That’

Well, that’s. Um. Yeah, okay. That’ll be different.
‘Star Wars’ & ‘Archer’ Voice Artist Tom Kane Suffers Stroke, Leaves Him Largely Unable To Speak

It’s hilarious. Either Cherkk or a live action version of Shrek.
My Top 10 Movies of 2020:
Not a great year, obviously, but still some great movies in there.
My top 10 is a pretty safe list. I no particular order:
Tenet – Top shelf time shenanigans with John David Washington the sex-god.
Hamilton – I might not love America, but I love musicals, dancing and history.
Wolfwalkers – I could’ve watched this with sound off and it still would’ve made the list.
Da 5 Bloods – Flawed? Yes. Still really worthwile? Fuck yes.
Borat 2 – Some of these gags are beyond what was done in the first one. Overall not as great though.
Soul – The animation, the character design, the music. All 11/10.
Extra Ordinary – I think this is the most irish thing I’ve seen since Father Ted. Do not miss!
Emma – I only saw this to try out my local cinema and it’s probably the biggest surprise of the year for me.
Trial of the Chicago 7 – Unfamiliar with the historical background but still entertained (and horrified). I want more of the serious Sacha Baron Cohen.
Bill and Ted Face The Music – I can’t believe I forgot this one. It was nowhere near the previous two movies but it was still, firmly, Bill and Ted.
edit: Removed King of Staten Island, inserted Bill and ted.
2020 must be the only year in my life that I haven’t watched a new movie.
I think 2021 could be the same unless I crack and get one of the streaming services.

Or become radicalised and decide on the pirate’s life. Yarr!
That was a confusing trailer. Started off as a lockdown relationship drama, ended up a heist movie. Still not sure who Anne Hathaway was firing or why.
Still not sure who Anne Hathaway was firing or why.
Her agent for talking her into doing the movie?
Yeah, that was all over the place. I’d still watch it on TV, just on the strength on the two main actors. I was indifferent to Anne Hathaway for a long time, but Colossal made me fall in love with her.
Takes a while to get going, but then actually looks like a fairly interesting Matrix/13th Floor style thriller thingy:
Well, no need to see that movie now… they kinda gave the whole thing away… =/
Jesus, who cuts these trailers man… what dumb fuckin waste.
Amazon and Netflix are notorious for this – I have no idea why. I started watching the trailer for “I’m Your Woman,” another Amazon film, and stopped half way through because it was clear they were giving away major plot points.

I’m not surprised Amazon does this. If anything, a detailed description on any item they have for sale will increase sales on it as compared with an item that leaves it to mystery and suspense.
Oddly, this is being released on Netflix in the US and Amazon internationally, on the same day.

Yeah, well, personally, I wouldn’t have watched this if I’d thought it was a romance movie with Owen Wilson and Salma Hayek, and the trailer left enough out enough stuff that I’m interested. It’s tricky with a movie like this.
Sure, but there was a way to do a trailer that would make it clear there’s something more going on without giving away the mechanics of what is going on and the actual problematic, which seems to be “which reality is the best one, which will he choose?”… unless there’s more to it, but somehow I doubt it.
A Gal Gadot spy thriller? yes please!!
💥 👊 💥 👊 💥 👊
Gadot will star in HEART OF STONE, an international espionage thriller written by THE OLD GUARD's Greg Rucka and directed by Tom Harper.

Rucka spy thriller is promising, and I liked HArper’s Wild Rose a lot (though that’s probably not going to be anything like this movie).
Yeah, sounds good. With Rucka becoming a hot Hollywood commodity, hopefully the Lazarus adaptation will get a push at some point, I want to see that book adapted!
I want to see that book adapted!
I want to see it finished first.

Clearly they’ve been inspired by the success of Game of Thrones.
Holy fucking shit this looks amazing. Anyone seen this? Six issue miniseries, movie thread, up is black, down is white and who cares?
Couldn’t find a Youtube posting yet but this is the first film from Rebellions Studios, newly set up by the computer game company and owner of 2000ad.
Looks like it could be fun.
