Just in case you haven’t heard it before…….
A bit of background first.
I was lucky enough to win a spot in the Millarworld talent contest of 2016 and wrote a story featuring HitGirl in the Millarworld Annual. I spent the next few years networking and saving my pennies so I could pay collaborators upfront and attended a number of cons which had creator only days and panels to figure out the business of independent comics in the UK and what it would take to break into it and have it be self-sustaining.
After a few reality checks, I figured the best thing I could do is focus on telling a story I was really passionate about as well as work on short stories for anthologies such as 4-5 page stories featured in Aftershocks for 2000AD
In June of this year, I launched 2 books at Glasgow Comicon, THIS LAND and SCHISM.
THIS LAND is a 5 issue series. My Maori Manga or Moana meets the X-Men.
A future New Zealand where the land has changed and people have the abilities of gods.
Now the gods have returned and they are not happy with what they have found.
SCHISM is a one-shot with plans for a follow-up issue next year.
Handmaids Tale meets Momento meets Steam Punk.
The story of a day in the life of the death of Adriana Solero-Hunter,
She guards the walls of the Spanish town of Olot and pieces together the reality of her life before her death.
Both have sold remarkably well at conventions selling over 200 books across 3 shows.
I have done very little in regards to building an audience on social media as I’m treating both as works in progress.
I’m hopeful once both story arcs are complete I could take them to a larger independent publisher who could be interested in taking a punt/chance on me.
In the meantime, all creators involved have been paid up so the only one out of pocket is me.
Worst case scenario I will have a few books I’ve created that I’m proud of and the rest of the art teams could have something fun for their portfolios.
So, after all, is said and done here are links to my google drive for both books should you be interested in reading them.
Basically, I’m after any feedback. Good or bad it’s all appreciated
