Since it is out there. Peter David passed away last night. We are devastated. More when I can write about it

One of the first comics writers I ever really got into, starting with his Captain Marvel run with ChrisCross.

Ah, shit. This is sad, sad news.

I feared this was just a matter of time, but horrid news nonetheless. Peter was one of my favourite writers. I devoured everything of his in comics that I could get my hands on. And spent years (and a small fortune) hunting down back issues from before my time. So many books. So many memories. So many laughs. What a legacy he leaves behind. R.I.P.

Yeah, I really enjoyed his Hulk, X-Factor, and Supergirl runs.

I met him and got him to sign a few of my comics.

His quirky sense of humor always came through in all his work.

    RIP.

I was a big fan of his novels too: The Knight Life and Sir Apropos of Nothing series were great, and I read and enjoyed his New Frontier novels before I’d actually seen any Star Trek.

His Hulk and X-Factor runs were highlights of my early forays into Superhero reading.  I’m actually a little bit upset right now

That is very sad indeed. I loved his X-Factor run.

I would also include The Last Avengers Story from him

I think it’s telling with these great comics writers that everyone has a different favourite. For me I always enjoyed him on Spidey, he wrote plenty of fun stories over the years and was obviously also responsible for Spider-Man 2099.

I enjoyed many of the comics runs Peter David wrote, but I really loved the “But I Digress…” column he wrote for The Comics Buyers’ Guide on a variety of topics, sometimes controversial, sometimes cantankerous, but ALWAYS entertaining, thought-provoking, and informative.

It is fitting that the late author Harlan Ellison wrote the introduction to the first collection of those columns, because Peter was the Harlan of the comics industry (and I mean that as a compliment).

    Rest in peace, sir.

Young Justice was one of the first American comics I read, from my local library whose comic section was a couple of DC trades in a basket on the floor. It was a little while before I was able to actually find more comics and regularly, but Young Justice was one I always sought out and is still a favourite, along with PaD’s X-Factor (the noir one, I’ve still not read the 90s one) and his Captain Marvel. He was such a versatile writer.

I thought Marvel had him on one of those “legends” type contracts like Claremont is, where they got him to write a token miniseries every year for a salary. I was surprised to hear he was crowdfunding for medical support recently.

    SpideySwingingIn

And I loved the Death of Jean DeWolff – Sin Eater story.

I have a veey sporadic collection of his Spectacular Spider-Man run.
    Maybe I should rectify that.
    Plus Young Justice, and Aquaman.

This is a very funny, silly Spidey story of his that sticks in the memory.

I liked his sense of humour. Hulk and X-Factor were great, with very fun characters.
